I love arcade racers. Personally I have been enjoying it, and don't plan to refund. However, I can't really recommend it at this price. I'd wait for a sale and hope it still has an online community. It really should of had a lower asking price. Players who liked Screamer talk about unique and stylish arcade racer with great music; those who didn't talk about too expensive for what it offers. Which matters more to you?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Screamer received "generally favorable" reviews for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions while the Windows version received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received strong approval, being recommended by 70% of critics. Phil Iwaniuk of PC Gamer rated the game a 72/100, highly praising the game's visual presentation and idiosyncratic characterization, but criticizing its twin-stick driving mechanics. Iwaniuk wrote "In a genre where so many games are determined to squabble over who can make the best LIDAR-scanned Monza, we need more Screamers. Milestone's narrative-led,…

Steam really needs a neutral review option, because this is the most "buy on sale" game I've played in a while I don't regret my purchase, I don't think this game sucks, and I certainly don't hate my time playing it, but I'm left sort of annoyed at some of the choices and design decisions that exist in this game. The balance of the combat and flow of a race is not good, because to charge your KO attack you need to boost twice, but to boost twice you need to race clean and shift well when you…

I’m an older gamer now and have always had a soft spot for a good arcade racer. Ridge Racer Type 4 was my all-time favourite, alongside Daytona USA and OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. And while I’d heard of Screamer, I was never much of a PC gamer when the original was released, so I only really knew it by name. This game is definitely its own unique thing and, aesthetically, it looks cool and will appeal to many, though certainly not everyone. It absolutely has a crowd that will love it,…

I hit a point where I realized I was no longer having any fun playing this game. Conceptually, Screamer is right up my alley: anime-inspired aesthetics, unique yet grounded cars, a pulse-pounding soundtrack to keep me hyped, and the thrill of drifting around corners in physics defying ways. It seemed like the perfect itch-scratcher. And when I say “itch,” I mean it. Something in me broke after playing Need for Speed: Unbound. Good gawd the STYLE of this game oozes out of every pore, and it feels like a PS2 classic, its rad. 9/10 Screamer is incredibly unique and its exactly what the racing genre has been missing. You will either love or hate Screamer based off of how the drifting mechanics work. Screamer uses 2 sticks to control the turning. This is probably the most unique arcade racer I’ve ever played. It’s the kind of game where the more I play it, the more I like it. Since it’s a $60 game, I honestly hope Milestone gives players a demo so they can try the controls first and see if it suits them. The controls do take some time to get used to, and for some reason, I actually find it easier to play on keyboard than on a controller. I want to make this review as soon as possible to let people know who are considering getting this game, first, this game is badass, second, you don't need to drive with dual sticks, I wasn't going to buy it because of the stupid sounding dual stick mechanic, but they also have an arcade one stick mode that combines grip and drift, so with that in mind, it's a whole new world of comfort, I'll be playing this for many more hours, enjoy it

Had no budget constraints, this would have been a classic. With what Milestone had, it'll carve out a semi-niche fanbase and will be following its racing colleagues in a line: "There was Split/Second, Pure, Ridge Racer, Blur... and Screamer." It's sweet that people want story in their racers. The animated cutscenes here were simply amazing, no surprise, given the studio behind it delivered some of the most successful animated work for well-known IPs. They're sparse, which is understandable.…

Milestone has done something exceptional here. A story-driven, visual novel-like game with twin-stick drift driving style is... a choice, but I think it works well here. Granted, the story drags a bit sometimes, but I applaud that they tried something entirely different to any other game in today's landscape of racing titles, and it's refreshing to see. I really want to recommend Screamer. The driving mechanics are cool, the story isn't half bad, and the art direction for cars and environments is amazing. But all that being said, the main tournament isn't fun. Random races where the difficulty feels turned up to 11 and tracks with too many twists and turns that play against the twin stick drift driving style the game has. The most aggravating part by far is the ai. While the player has to drift through most of the turns, the ai just grips…

I don't mind the added combat mechanisms, but I was hoping that they wouldn't put the driving in the back seat. There is no sense of actually being in a car race as you're constantly gaining and losing positions, and often it feels random what position you end up finishing at. In part I think it's unfair to not recommend, because the game doesn't crash, it delivers on what was marketed, BUT I feel like there is too much inconsistency in the driving model, feels like the whole physics of the game changes depending on the chosen car, instead of the physics of the world staying the same and the cars having differences while interacting under the same rules with the world. I am not going to pretend I am an expert on racing games. I always wanted a fun arcade racing game on steam that wasn't bloated with micro transations and 100+ DLC cars. This game just oozes that "video games are supposed to be fun" attitude. The game is genuinely fun with it being a fast paced racing game That said, it's not worth the $60 price tag. The content feels pretty light for full price, the drifting mechanics can get frustrating, and there's not enough depth or replayability to justify the cost. I'd happily pick it up on sale under $20, but I can't recommend it at full price.

Finally, an arcade racer that's not actually a Forza wannabe in disguise. I've experienced some technical issues, yes; occasional crashes after dialogue, massive frame drop on certain sections of a map where things get crowded, poorly applied frame gen that triggers a lot of blurry afterimages. But you know what? I'm willing to let it slide(for now). The game itself in the core is a novel banger. It's fun.

I want that too, but for some reason it's become like pulling teeth to get local split-screen multiplayer in a racing game anymore, and that's a mandatory feature for me. Luckily we got Screamer this year.

Today’s game is the massively overlooked Daytona/Ridge Racer-like: Screamer. Solid arcade drifting model, good courses, and bold low poly 3d with colors that pop. I wish I still had the box #dosgaming #retrogaming

A decent racing game with an enthusiastic visual novel campaign. However, the final act twists in said campaign were appalling. I had made my peace with this game being a VN with an attached racing game element, and began to really enjoy it for the middle two acts. The last act falls apart spectacularly in a way that needs to be seen to be believed. I have to give kudos to a racer having a story worth giving two ♥♥♥♥♥ over. But that's the rub. They did that and I started to appreciate the…

I don't see the hate for this game. Yes it is different, yes it is hard, but It's hell of a lot better than other arcade racing game I played. Haters get same game, "there's no innovation. it's same crap" They get game like this, "It's weird. Control sucks, it's too hard." All they do is complain. Anyways, this game has a fun story, good anime vibe, amazing soundtrack, likeable characters, even though some of them are annoying as hell, and finally amazing feel of racing and that feel you get…

Get this game if it is on sale This is a very unique arcade racer where you steer with both controller joysticks. The overall vibe of the game is very nostalgic, its a game from the 2000's with modern graphics. this is an honest to goodness videogame, free of modernt bloat, that respects you and its universe. The OST is awesome. PvP is simple but rich with strategy that leads to 1st place not always being the place to be. I would wholeheartedly recommend this game if they kept adding content to…

Okay so, this game is A LOT. Screamer at it's most intense is a hard game. The technical depth of the gameplay is honestly staggering; active shifts, time based boosts, two stick steering, a meter mechanic to pay attention to on top of expecting decent throttle and brake control. and Screamer expects you to do all of it at once, and it's hard. The controls aren't quite intuitive, there is learning to be done here. some people are going to bounce off this game hard because of that but if you…

I can honestly say this is the best story driven racing game I've ever played. I don't typically go for "anime style" but it works extremely well here. Photorealistic cars and maps with anime effects and story (actually similar to NFS Unbound) but with unique mechanics and an actually awesome story. All the characters are memorable and have deep backstories and motivations for why they race. I love how each character has a distinct personality, with a matching car to go with it. In addition,…

Not for $60. It can be fun though. On the driving side of things, the handling is very wonky though. Sometimes the steering just feels like it does not want to turn. Other times its predictable. Who knows. I do love the drift mechanic though. That is such a fun idea. The upshifting mechanic is also a fun boost too (literally). Speed doesn't really feel like speed. Generally at least at the beginning you feel like you're driving through paste. That might explain the woeful driving mechanics. I…

If you ask me how I really feel about this game personally, I'd say it's between thumbs up& thumbs down... maybe a bit towards the thumbs up side... But here's the thing: current racing game genre NEEDS a game like this. It gives you a story, it gives you a campaign, it offers personality, it's a proper arcade racing game that has a nice chunk of single player content(my game time at review is roughly time it takes to complete the campaign) It's not all about online multiplayer all the time,…

Please buy this game if: You often catch yourself thinking "Damn, where are all of these gone, huh?" You enjoy Forza Horizon, but are tired of the series and the lack of experimentation with the formula You semi-regularly end up replaying the arcades from the mid-00s / early-10s If you fall into at least one of these categories, Screamer is genuinely worth all of its price tag. For anyone else who is not a die-hard fan of the genre, but has fond memories with one or the two of old IPs…
