What people are saying
Mixed: praised for free building fun, criticised for bugs and DLC.
Many players praise the game for its free, nostalgic building mechanics and physics-based fun. One player says it 'scratches that nostalgic itch' and calls it 'heavily underrated.' Another calls it 'a fantastic sandbox builder' that is 'addictive and rewarding.' [1][8][9]
However, many criticise the game for being buggy, with crashes, physics glitches, and poor controls. One player says 'the game crashes when i click on it' and another reports being 'launched about 50 meters into the air countless times.' Some also complain about the monetisation, with one alleging 'adding DLCs to a non finished product is a rip off.' [4][35][26]

neutral · AI labelView post →I loved this game so much with all the gearboxes and cool parts, but with the recent official release they locked the sandbox mode behind a campaign boss. I bought this game so I could have fun building cars and planes, not so much for the story. love this game, but I just can't recommend it if you just want to use sandbox.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's hard for me to recommend this game to anyone. The gameplay loop is good enough that it makes you endure the several layers of jank and bugs, and this process is ultimately very frustrating. The premise of the game is amazing: You build little racing cars from lego-ish parts, progressing through the campaign by beating certain target times while meeting technical requirements for each race or challenge (given number of wheels, gears, maximum or minimum weight, EV vs combustion,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Making 2/3 of the game dlc for a half finished game is horrible, more than 80% of my vehicles now don't even load because of that. I hope you guys come to your senses, THIS IS HORRIBLE!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i've put a fair 333 hours into this game and i love building cars and wacky stuff but they made it to where i have to play the campaign to get creative all of my hours r in creative because i only really enjoy building the cars with whatever i want used to love this game now i wont probably ever play again please bring back creative mode with instant unlock
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed playing this game in early access. I liked the Tech Tree and working to unlock more and more. I really enjoyed the trial and error process of building a complicated transmission. In the end, the fact this game launched half baked without allowing the player to adjust the level of traction control takes it from a highly recommend and interesting racer to a solid not recommend, a trinket for kids. Its pretty clear at this point the developers have simply moved on and are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unintuitive building controls. I'm constantly fighting against the game to do what I want. The building system is terrible. For example, to place a beam you have to attach it to a connector first and then connect it. You cannot place parts in the air and connect them later. This makes building unbearable. This can be easily implemented since the physics are only calculated when the vehicle is spawned. Because of this, making anything complex is extremely difficult. Say I build a car and then…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →too buggy i literally cried. I understand its in beta, but its been in beta for a long enough time for the developers to actually fix the roads instead of adding 50 DLCs. Like just let me play the game bruh
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't bother. Downloaded this thinking it was a free game. Truth is, after a few hours, the content is over and everything you click tries to sell you a DLC. On top of that, the game is very broken and you will spend a lot of time trying to find a workaround to stuff that should have been fixed a long time ago. Yeah, so you paid for the DLCs, and what you get is a paid game that's just as broken as the worst free games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How is this game even free? I've built a lot of car transmissions with Lego when I was a kid. This game scratches that nostalgic itch. Cool insights into torque vs. speed at different gears. Amazing project and developers. I hope this game will get more downloads, it's heavily underrated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played for a couple hours built a couple cars and then was promptly locked out from using any of. The game itself is fun but the bugs absolutely ruined it for me
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I do like the game, I don't believe it's ready for full release. I have been launched about 50 meters into the air countless time for no reason, the AI cars spawn with me on the track, only to disappear as soon as the race starts and I have spawned under the map countless times. Additionally, the game crashes on a regular basis. Fix these issues and maybe I'll change my review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i know i should expect bugs due to it currently being early access but i cant even test drive cars due to falling through the ground
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game when it was free. I Actually enjoyed it, it was buggy as ♥♥♥♥, and I lost my progress. The concept of the game was promising, but it looks like the creator only wants a quick buck with all the DLC's and allat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As it stands I cannot recommend this. A lot of the game is incomplete, mistranslated, unoptimized, buggy and a lot of the UI/UX is really bad. As an early access (which it should have stayed as) it's a fun toy box, but jumping the gun and calling this full release was a bad move at this point. At best the early release was a mistake and will eventually be finished, and at worst it's bad faith, only the future can tell.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as a free game? yes i would recomend this game to try as it is fun and has a lot of potential depending on how much you know about gear ratios and car desighn, a fun 40 or so hours of somewhat chalenging races that force you to develop your car desighning skills alongside your racing skills as a 7$ paid game? ♥♥♥♥ no christ this game's achevements were broken before i even got here let alone the 'ghosts' witch up until they gone out of early access didnt even exist for 90% of races and even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Screw Drivers is an ambitious blend of vehicle construction, physics-based racing, and sandbox experimentation developed by Creactstudios and published by Headup. Instead of placing players behind the wheel of predesigned cars, the game hands them a collection of parts and asks them to build their own solutions from the ground up. The result is a title that feels equal parts engineering simulator and arcade racer, offering a refreshing take on a genre that often relies on licensed vehicles and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still can't believe Screw Drivers released *free*, how is this game literally free? store.steampowered.com/app/1279510/...
positive · AI labelView post →I cant believe I've never left a review, I love this game in so many ways. Dont listen to the other reviews, if you like cars and you have a bit of tism and like solving problems you made, this is the game for you. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hot garbage. I'd write down everything wrong and lacking in this game but I'm not spending another minute thinking about this nightmare they call a game. I paid 6 bucks and I still feel robbed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to just build stuff, get GearBlocks instead, this locks creative mode from the get-go.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →spent 4 hours making a compact 12 gear transmission for my car. game crashes when i click on it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →beautiful game but it should be as it used to be. It should be free with paid dlc's.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very fun if your into building things and even without buying any of the DLCS you can still make a ton of stuff (even though i wish i had the dlcs)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SCREW DRIVERS Racing game in which you build vehicles from Meccano-like components - and you can even reassemble yourself if you crash [ PC / 2023 / Creact Studios Headup Games ] www.headupgames.com/game/screw-d...
neutral · AI labelView post →ui is sloppy and now the game is out of early access, you have to finish the career to play creative/sandbox now
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is very cool and fun. But the UI and controls make it unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to turn the gear by its axis, hint: You cannot, it bugs trough it. Apart from that it's an unique game with realistic aspecs. Being free, I can totally recommend the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really nice game, but it's sad, because it costs money now
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cool concept but this might genuinely be the worse designed ui of all time, why is left click paint instead of select? why does it take four years to rotate a part to get it where you want it? I've played for 40 minutes and this UI is the reason it's not more
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the biggest falloffs in potential games i have ever seen
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game used to be my favorite but after the recent updates, I think they have runied it by having to play career fist in order to be able to play creative which limits your creativity so technically if you buy any DLCs, you will need to play career first in order to play and try with your DLC.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Consistently freezes on startup. Quite literally unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept? so good. The art style/theming? A little funky, but it doesn't get in the way at all. The physics, and handling impacts of design? Addictive and rewarding! The controls/UI? The ONLY reason I have as few hours in as I do. Keybinding is nightmarishly confusing and unintutive. Habitually tapping Escape in the car designer, sends you three menus back, and two loading screens back, with no confirmation. Really wanting to get back into this game but god, I am raging at these controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, for a free game, I am extremely surprised on the quality. I had a blast playing it, and there is no downsides to giving it a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic sandbox builder with decent challenges and a career mode that acts like a tutorial for people new to these mechanics. My brother and I have been playing it none-stop since we found it. It's a little difficult to get started in, but if you like mechanics and engineering and cars I say give it a try. Remember, it's still in early access. Some features don't work well and there are minor bugs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While trying to get stuff set up for a return to streaming later this month, I've been indulging in a new addiction. A little game called Screw Drivers. It's like playing with Meccano, making cars and doing races. I highly recommend checking it out, it's free! Here's my "car"... steam link below
positive · AI labelView post →WAS loving it until they locked creative mode behind a progression wall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good enough game dunno why others dislike this game the sandbox mode being locked behind campaign is just a small obstacle, not that you need to finish the whole game to unlock it the game has never crashed for me the game's audio sometimes breaks but that's about it it's a decent game but i don't think it should be fully released yet, i think i'm lucky for me to have gotten this game back when it was free on early access the physics is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥, sometimes when i repair my vehicle it goes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Multiplayer is completely broken and driving in mutliplayer is completely impossible even as the host the multiplayer used to be great but with the 1.0 its completely ruined
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would love to replay on full release but cant play properly with keyboard nor gamepad for some reason. try to pause the game and seems to continue on background.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →stop pretending that your game is finished.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I recommend it. Slightly, anyway. This game has great mechanics and I absolutely love messing around with the gears, ratios, transmissions, and the like. It's very reminiscent of K'nex and Lego Technic. There's a career, multiplayer, and creative mode. It even has some diagnostics. The 2 years or whatever it was in EA and free, creative mode was unlocked and free to use from the start. Now that it went premium and 1.0, you have to finish career mode first to unlock creative mode.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game itself is rlly fun but its definitely not ready for 1.0 the maps feel rushed you get launched for no apparent reason some maps are worse than others to and the 8 different menus you need to go through just to get from editing to tech tree to a race is crazy im glad i have a decent pc bc the amount of loading screens is crazy its deffinetly came a long way from the beta i played it still feels like im driving on ice sometimes even though my drag is down to .6 and i have like 8 carbon…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, this game was fun, it really was. At least in early access. Im saying this because in early access, you could do creative freely and instantly. Now they make you do the campaign to unlock it. I would love to have a positive review but i just can't. You ruined the creative freedom of the game and i can't hcange this review until it is fixed.

neutral · AI labelView post →Was very good on launch. But recent updates had lowered the optimization and user-friendly traits that made the game simple to understand. Bugged menus, bugged cameras, even the tech tree isn't updated yet. (The 4 new engines aren't on display, making you guess blindly and by chance on how to get them.) Core mechanics are still an absolute banger. Just wished they'd fix the underlying issues before going radio silent for monts
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are still some bugs while building and driving. The most serious issue I've found is that some parts don't work properly, such as the Gear Holder Dynamic and the Double Connector. I also hope that free gears will eventually be able to mesh with normal gears and that a large free gear will be added, and that a suspension tuning graph will be added to the Analyze menu. The game has a lot of potential, and I'm excited to see how it develops.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →122 hours, im quitting. Amazing game if you want simple things, but these maps are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that when you try to get the absolute fastest time you get flung by these stupid hitboxes in this game. i cannot go reliably over 350kph without getting yeeted to the otherside of the map. 6/10 FIX YOUR MAPS OMG 11/10 if it didnt have them!!!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game but the damage is not the best. WATCH THE TUTORIAL PLEASE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a nice game but its sad to see how buggy it got after the year or more. i first played it in like 2024 it was i think where multiplayer was easier, 24k Nm cars would calcuate way faster but now all that slowed down or got way buggier, which is sad since the game was good back then and was a fun multiplayer experience, now its just a buggy mess that you have to live with and work with. The only positives i found after these years are the new type of engines and gears, otherwise it just got…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was making a cool car with lots of gear changes. Took like 20 minutes to analyze then game froze and stopped responding. Now creative no longer loads.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game. It has a lot of potential. Biggest issue I have currently is that the GPU sits at 100% in any scene.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, progression isn't grindy nor pay-to-win despite being F2P, which makes it really stand out for a free game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to other building games but the base game is free. They have done a great job adding free maps and content updates. Highly recommend, what have you got to lose? it's free.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →super fun. compicated but easy to learn. brings in to a flow state
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Offroading physics are horrendous :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Came back to this game to buff out the last few achievements. Heard it had entered full release and was excited. Game ran very poorly, had tons of stuff all over the screen, and my progress had been pseudo reset. Not what i remember, and from what i hear from other reviews it's as buggy as it used to be, i wouldn't know because i didn't play for but about 5 minutes before deciding 100% completion just wasn't worth it.
