What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 107 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (185 of 203 positive).
Players praise the beautiful art and music, but many find the story confusing and the endings unsatisfying. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers feel that choices do not matter enough, leading to frustration. [5][6][7]

This game made me feel frustated, helpless and cheated and that's not how I want a game to make me feel. The main reason for that is because it isn't what it was advertised to be. I was really excited when I first saw the preview of this game cause I love RPG, I love games with choices, and I love its predecessor "along the edge". Newsflash, if you love "along the edge" for its organic story and immersiveness, …

I'm giving positive to this, because it is not a bad VN and also because of Along The Edge which was *truly fantastic* VN but I couldn't vote for that one here as I didn't buy it on Steam but Itch.io instead. However, unlike to Along The Edge my decision for positive rating here was on the brink of not doing it and I was quite disappointed in my (even if originally very high) expectations. If there would be “a …

Seers Isle is a choice-based visual novel by Nova-box. In this game, you guide a group of aspiring shamans to be judged by the seers, mysterious spirits who can bestow magical powers. It's very similar in gameplay to their previous title, Along the Edge. As you follow the group on their quest, you make choices that will shape their journey. Many of the choices correspond to one of four symbols, and the symbols you …

This is a tough recommendation. I am not a fan of the underlying framework, but the presentation makes this worth spending time on. The world is compelling; it has a beautiful hand-drawn art style, moving music; very enjoyable to the senses. The story flirts with some interesting topics like memory, time-travel, magic, and identity. I enjoyed immersing myself in the sights and sounds of this place, and I found that …

Along the edge is very close to my heart and I was excited to see about this game. If you played Along the edge or simply enjoy visual novels, you will enjoy Seers Isle. The music in Seers Isle is amazing. Perfectly fitted with the dialogue, it adds another layer to the storytelling and makes you a lot more invested in the story. At one point in the game it was so impactful I got shivers down my whole body. The …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To sum this wall of text up: this is not a “every choice matters” game, it’s a “none of your choices truly matter, here have some cheap drama instead.” This had looked so promising and then it all fell apart because we’re drowning in fake choices and that mass effect-y “whatever color you choose, your ending still explodes in a steaming pile of manure” thing. First off, there are 7 characters in total, but one of them does not matter at all, one is there to help justify one of the ending…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first time I give a negative review to a game, but... oh well. To say the good things, lets start saying that the art and the music is amazing. There is no discussion on that. But the game is not only art and music, is also story and writting. The writting itself was good, but the story... not so much. At first is confusing, and that is exactly the point, so there is no complaint on that either. But then, you start getting the endings, and they are just... so disappointing? The…

neutral · AI labelView post →I'm very sad to be leaving a negative review for such a beautiful game. My TLDR is: go play Along the Edge, which is better in every aspect. Nova-box has some wickedly good artists, and both games have stunning visual art and soundtrack. The writing is very good on both of them, with characters that feel very different from each other, even in short games (~2h each playthrough), that you can really feel connected to them. So go now and play Along the Edge, it's a really great game. If you have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fascinating story that I'm determined to get to the bottom of. I've played through to two endings now. After the first playthrough I was seriously confused, but the second gave much more clarity, and made me so much more invested in these characters. This game has a fantastic soundtrack. The artwork is beautiful, made even more impressive by the sheer volume of different scenes you get to experience as the story evolves; it's clear a lot of dedication has gone into it. The premise of this…

neutral · AI labelView post →I was really disappointed with the story in Seers Isle. The game starts off strong, with the protagonist and their fellow shaman apprentices setting foot on a sacred island to be initiated to magic. The setting is atmospheric and the story is intriguing. However, the game quickly loses its momentum. The pacing becomes erratic, with long stretches of dialogue and exploration followed by brief bursts of action. Some sections felt rushed and others felt like they dragged on forever. This makes…

neutral · AI labelView post →I heard good words about this game, so I tried. The story itself is OK-ish but at the end of the day, I can't recommend this. It claims to have a lot of branches and "EVERY CHOICE MATTERS", yeah, these words are used a lot these days. But no, I totally disagree. If you want absolutely no spoilers, you can stop reading here. That's all I wanted to say. Below I'll try my best to be spoiler-free, if you think a little glimpse to the plot is OK, then keep reading, I'll explain more.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I applaud Seers Isle for trying to tell a more mature story than most visual novels that settle for romance or sex. It wasn't perfect but it was solid and enjoyable. It certainly makes me take notice of the developer despite a few issues I had. My main issues with it were that I felt it didn't have a very satisfactory ending and I didn't feel that the choice structure was explained very well. I played through it twice so far and both times I couldn't seem to get it to focus on the characters…

neutral · AI labelView post →Recently in the evening I finished Seers Isle (completed all chapters of the game once) and didn't plan to go to bed so late. The experience was fantastic. The French devs of Nova Box confirm here their talent after their beautiful first game Along the Edge. I already enjoyed their first game, but Seers Isle is a step above. It was better in everything: more detailed illustrations, more intense story, better immersion, great soundtrack and a world that was (in my opinion) more interesting. If…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m not a fan of visual novels so maybe my advice isn’t for everyone. Please also notice that I’ve discovered the studio with their previous game Along the Edge which I fell in love with. Seers Isle is a subtle game which embarks you for a poetic yet dramatic Celtic journey. The artwork, the music are superb and the story follows alot of twists and turns with a staggering amount of endings. I only got three so far, but they were radically different, almost feeling like I was playing a new…

At this time, we planned to have more animated characters in a school of magic, and for those who have played the game... yes, the final result is very different ahah ✨🦌
neutral · AI labelView post →Loved the art and the music. Unfortunately, I was so frustrated by the story and how the choices played out, that by the ending, I was skipping through dialogue just to get to the ending.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tonight, Ian and I are playing through @nova-box.com's game "Seers Isle" and voice acting all of the characters! The choices we make determine what happens to the characters, so let's see where they end up :eyes: twitch.tv/giana_luna_
neutral · AI labelView post →Atmospheric and visually quite pretty, yet it failed to make me really invested with the story or characters, which is especially unfortunate for a visual novel.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sometimes the lack of choice, or how little your choices matter can be utterly infuriating. Though it matches the themeing of being in a "greater power's" home territory. There seems to be only a handful of choices that fundamentally change the story, with most of the other choices being fuel/counters/reinforcements to choose which side of the events the you'll be on for the main choices (at two play throughs and I'm surprised that there isn't a cheat mode that lets you know which path a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The music and imagery are beautiful. The story is captivating. My son, who is autistic and hates reading generally, asked if he could play the game after I described it to him. This is definitely a keeper and looking forward to the other games the developer has done.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A different kind of visual novel, for sure, but an interesting one. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seers Isle is really interesting because it pushed the idea of what a narrative game is. They highly focus on the story, the mood and the art direction. Choices are scarce but impactful, everything impacts the story you're building up. The music is adapting to the scene you're reading, which gives a lot of breathing room to the rhythm. Maybe the downsides of the game would be that the interface is a bit light and the story is short, but overall it's worth the money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played Seers Isle a while ago, and I rarely leave reviews. I leave one today because I've just bought the studio's game bundle, containing all games from Nova Box. I've liked Seers Isle enough to blindly buy all other Nova Box's games. I've liked Seers Isle enough to remember it months later. If you're looking for an immersive narrative experience, with surprises and takes that will surprise you, look no further. Don't read spoilers and experience it. It's a really great game.

neutral · AI labelView post →I loved these characters within 11 minutes of playing the game. Every different choice reveals new information and every ending is intense and interesting. I highly recommend this game. They made a world that had a lot of parallels to our own while still making me curious about every bit of lore and knowledge I learned. The music is calming and very fitting to the story making the visual novel feel immersive, and I loved the mix of intrigue, curiosity and confusion I felt while trying to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A highly polished visual novel. Great artstyle and soundtracks. I probably enjoyed the arts and the music more than the story itself, which is good by all means but a little bit obscured and at some points hard to follow. My ending is quite sad, I think. Many people have died, out of treachery and bad fortune, who I assume could've ended up much better had I made my choices differently. Anyways, it's a good game. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've reached the 2nd chapter so far, but I'd like to leave a review. Dear Nova-box, your watercolor artwork is a masterpiece! Sometimes it's difficult to continue enjoying the story, because the CG are so charming and mesmerizing that it's impossible to click. The most of them, however, are kind of "sketchy", but they don't ruin the atmosphere, and it's forgivable for an indie studio. The narrative is nice so far, a cliche group trial journey introduction is rather involving. The characters…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Veryyy Chill! Really like reading a simple, small book. I wanted something simple and pretty, that's what I got
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seers Isle, developed and published by Nova-box, is a narrative-driven experience that sits comfortably between a visual novel and an interactive graphic novel, placing nearly all of its weight on storytelling, atmosphere, and player choice. Set in a myth-infused world inspired by Northern European traditions, the game follows a group of young apprentices who journey to a sacred island to undergo a ritual that will determine their fate as seers. Rather than focusing on action or complex…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The beautiful artwork makes this a real pleasure to play. You have opportunities to guide and influence multiple members of the group with your choices throughout the story. A single playthrough is satisfying, but further playthroughs are as rewarding. These may yield different outcomes and a greater understanding of the Seers Isle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this through a couple of times and I've really enjoyed it! The characters are all very interesting, and I feel invested in their individual storylines. The mystery of the island is so intriguing. The art, of course, is incredible, and I always find myself waiting to continue the dialogue because I get so caught up looking at it. Based on your choices, the story branches off in different directions, which makes replays unique.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Of the three Nova-Box games I played, this one is definitely my favorite and I played it through three times. (I do believe my steam hours are incorrect for some reason). I really enjoyed the historical nomadic fantasy setting. The game focuses on a group of several characters going through a ritual and the characters that end up being your focus can vary depending on your choices, which I found quite fascinating in opposition to the other two games of theirs I have played. And they pull it off…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a gem. Nova-Box once again made something very special. Delicate poetry, amazing soundtrack, subtle story that you will understand more and more with each path / ending. I would recommend this in a heartbeat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautifully draw game & great adventure story with multiple playthrough options to see the fates of all the characters. Totally recommended for anyone who likes the genre and theme, but especially for streamers, as Twitch also has "interaction mode" where viewers can participate in choosing what the player does. I only have one complaint. It was good to see a person of color in the setting, because this reflects actual history not the monochrome idea usually pushed. **But** the problem is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting structure for choice mechnics, very fresh. To get on a route, you need to pick choices that represent the values of a given character. I also like the use of the time looping trope for the story. As we arrive on the island with a group of warriors seeking aid for their clans and families, we clib with them to the top of the mountains to be judged worthy or not by the seekers. But other things happen along the way and the story isn't as simple. The story itself is a bit too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic! Don't sleep on this just because it's a VN. The art is outstanding and plentiful and the story is really interesting. My only complaint is that on first play-through it is a little vague which decisions lead to what. If you fear this might frustrate you, maybe take a super quick glance at the main guide first just so you can have a better idea of how the colored symbols work and which character corresponds to which. The game itself does not explain that concept very well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seers Isle is a spectacular text adventure with beautiful illustrations, atmospheric music and an original story. You follow 7 people sent to the Seers Isle to take the dangerous initiation to become a shaman. But a spirit lives on the isle, interfering with their quest, and more entwined with their fate than they can imagine. The characters are diverse (including poc and queer characters) and their backstories are fascinating. It's worth playing through a couple of times in order to see the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is such a captivating story. The lore is rich, the story intriguing and the characters interesting. It really made me feel invested and drove me to replay it. The way you interact with the story is a novel take on choices in visual novels. On to more technical details. The game uses a choice mechanic in which you build up certain "stats", this is mainly used to select the route the later chapters will take. This allows one to get on a route in multiple different ways, which gives players…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an incredible work of interactive fiction. It's the story of a group of young people who arrive at an island to go through unknown trials in order to receive a magical blessing. The game moves forward at a brisk pace, alternately describing the characters' backgrounds, following their adventures on the island, and unravelling the island's mysteries. Each of the characters is well defined and relatable, and each one completes an interesting arc during some plot path (requiring multiple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I greatly enjoyed Seers Isle as a visual novel. Nova-box put a lot of care and attention to detail when creating the scenes and characters. The different shading and lighting on the character portraits depending on if its night, by firelight, or during the day adds a lot to the immersion. The little details show the care put into Seers Isle and enhance the experience. A wonderful story, I recommend Seers Isle for anyone looking for outstanding visual novel for autumn.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cool story in a Celtic setting with a lot of replay value. It's worth playing just to experience the art and soundtrack.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's cute! It didn't resonate with me too much and I'd argue there are some shortcomings to this piece, but it's a very pretty experience, limited more by the budget, than by the artistic vision. I can't believe this crew has been releasing VNs for a decade now, and I've never heard about them. I'm quite intrigued to see where they have gone since then. EDIT: Actually, I was curious if I’m correct in my assumption that the game is rather linear and you don’t influence its finale much… But I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just completed my first run. DO NOT READ ANY GUIDES. GO IN BLIND. i'm so glad i did. this game is worth the full price, and i haven't even "fully" played it yet/explored all the paths. you know how some games are designed to be replayed, but you mostly do so just because you want the achievements? with this one, i'm genuinely so curious what the other paths/choices held - i'll replay it, not just for completionism's sake. the writing is genuinely GOOD, i love how character-driven it is. also,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →words are scarce to describe what i feel but i've never truly loved a narrative based game as much as i love Nova-box's creations, i love adventure i love obscure, i love Along the Edge i love Seers Isle i love Across the Grooves, i love indie games, my soul will forever resonate with Nova-box's Art
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played across the grooves from this same developer. My comments are basically the same but this one is a little bit less engaging to me. I love the art work and the solemn soundtrack and there is a certain atmosphere. However, in terms of story there's not enough here and even the characters don't feel fleshed out. Off course, it's only about 3 hours long. It'd give this a 6 or 6,5 out of ten. That's not a bad score but it's not a recommendation from me either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it was ok? i would give it a 5/10, i've played better VNs that were around the same length. described as a story rich game but honestly the story was kinda burdensome more than anything. lost interest somewhere in the middle but pressed on to complete it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me of the art style of Seers Isle, a visual novel game that I really liked
positive · AI labelView post →go through all of that to end of being sad lesbian story lol what a BS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These are not concept arts. On the contrary, I made this AFTER our games are done. I call them "fan arts", for lack of a better term. 01: Duncan and Rowan from #seersisle #celtic #fantasy
neutral · AI labelView post →I normally don't feel compelled to write reviews, but, I feel as I've been deceived. This game is nothing like it presents itself to be - neither in description or screenshots. I kept progressively getting more bored - and more annoyed - as the game went forward. The are no "choices" in this game, just picking between two dialogue options every 5 TO 10 MINUTES. If I wanted that I would go watch a movie, because then at least then I'd go in knowing I could do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the story. The story…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At this point I've done three different playthroughs of this game, and the story felt unique each time, with new information coming to light and endings that were pretty different from each other. The best part of this game was getting to know the characters and finding out their backstories and what motivated them. The story itself was a solid fantasy story, with interesting elements from different European cultures. The art was beautiful, and the music was fitting for the setting and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok so this was a decent game. In some ways I liked this game better than Along the Edge. The art has evolved since then and it is still so stunning. They have some FANTASTIC moments for their CGs here to set the tone. Like before, whatever choice you pick, you commit to until the end of the game. In many ways I like this mechanic. However I said this about Along the Edge but these games DESPERATELY need a SKIP BUTTON. I don't even know if I'm going to 100% this game because, just like in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seers Isle is an interactive graphic novel, one with lovely art and great writing! Seven young adults are trying to become shamans, each for their own reason, and you can steer the decisions during their journey. Similarly to a visual novel, there’s plenty to enjoy throughout the different playthroughs, and the more you play, the better a sense you get of the overall story and mysteries. I definitely recommend it if you’re in the mood for a slower-paced, thoughtful adventure!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes. That was a good ending. I feel very good about what I just experienced. Thank you for making such a great game.
