Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a turn-based tactical role-playing video game set in the Shadowrun universe. It was developed and published by Harebrained Schemes, who previously developed Shadowrun Returns and its standalone expansion, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut. What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 178 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,210 of 4,873 positive).
Some reviewers note excessive dialogue and pacing issues that can bog down the experience. [1][2][3][4] A few players warn against the Extended Ending DLC, calling it disappointing. [5]

Great game, but do not buy it. Paradox Interactive now own all of Harebrained Schemes' games. All revenue from sales will go to Paradox, not Harebrained, despite HS as a studio no longer being owned by Paradox.

This game is fkn amazing, best one of the three by far , the companions are one of the most interesting in the genre and the dialogue varies crazy depending on your choices and who you take with you. Buy this if you like CRPGs, so sad this is the last one in the series

Hot take perhaps, but I think this game is peak Shadowrun and yes, by that I mean that I prefer Hong Kong to Dragonfall in almost every aspect, except decking. This game is saturated to the brim with Shadowrun's atmosphere, from the music, to the NPCs, to the companions, enemies and locations. Everything (except decking, that got a bit worse) has been improved: cybernetic augments, magic, build variety, combat, …

A damn fine game that continues the legacy of Returns and Dragonfall. For the love of god though, DO NOT PLAY THE EXTENDED ENDING DLC. The epilogue plot is hilariously binary in its final ending options for no real reason and spits upon basically everything you and a certain someone went through in the base game by destroying your relationship over a single decision that has a laughably obvious compromise the …

I have a lot of mixed feelings regarded this title. On one hand, there is a lot of interesting narrative and character backstories to follow in it, but on the other the pacing felt. so. sluggish. at times... The neverending dialogues between missions made me feel like nearly every team member and Heoi dweller wanted to tell me their life story. So, if you are planning to play SR:HK, be prepared for a lot of reading. …

80% of the 178 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition. The complaint that keeps coming up: too much lengthy dialogue. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
It received "generally positive reviews", according to review aggregator Metacritic. Gamer Headlines awarded it 8 out of 10, saying "The combat, the dialogue, the music, everything that we have come to expect from a Shadowrun video game is in Shadowrun: Hong Kong." PC World awarded it four out of five stars, saying "Shadowrun: Hong Kong isn't the best RPG Harebrained Schemes has put out, but it's still a great game in its own right." PC Gamer awarded it 70%, saying "Regardless, Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a spectacular story of deceit and poisonous evil that will lure you through the most indulgent settings yet seen in the cRPG renaissance. For the price, the scale is giddying, but Shadowrun is…

positive · AI labelView post →📖 Bytes of Game Ads 📺 "Watch your back... shoot straight... and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon." Another cool ad for one of three 16-bit Shadowrun games released in the early-mid 90s, each of them having a unique vibe and take on a video game adaptation.
neutral · AI labelView post →This is neat that I'd not seen before: the cover for the Super Famicom release of Beam Software's Shadowrun game, titled 'Shadowrun USA' here on the box. The artwork feels like it might be from a sourcebook, but I can't place which one off the top of my head.
neutral · AI labelView post →Shadowrun is a unique phenomenon in the world of games. It's not the biggest game, but almost everyone’s heard of it — though what they’ve heard might not be complimentary. What's the story there? Why does it have the reputation it does?
neutral · AI labelView post →Three flavours of 16-bit Shadowrun: Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Mega CD. As cool and niche as the Japanese-exclusive SR game is with its anime vibes (and after muddling through a lot of it with translation aids), it's sadly not as much fun to play as the previous two.
negative · AI labelView post →Just as a follow-up on my last post, I've just noticed the Shadowrun (Returns) Trilogy games are on heavy sale right on GOG. Absolutely worth picking up, with Dragonfall worth the price of admission alone.
positive · AI labelView post →watched more Demonschool and part of the structure to the game is actually reminding me of Shadowrun: Dragonfall. dragonfall's story and its world exploration is very, very focused. you only have a few places you can go to, and story progression - and more importantly, pacing - is tied to missions.
neutral · AI labelView post →oh yeah man, I'm embarrassed to say i didn't really encounter the system or game at all until 2077, I was raised on Shadowrun which i now understand was hugely influenced / somewhat ripping off y'all. at any rate, I'm a huge fan mow
positive · AI labelView post →Discard your preconceived notions… The Sixth World opened its doors to Super Famicom in 1994, a year after the USA and EUR release of Beam Software more point-and-click-ey Shadowrun game. A loose adaptation of the SR novel, Never Deal with a Dragon.
neutral · AI labelView post →RPG Author: In my game I invented Shadowrun as a cautionary tale Tech Company: At long last, we have created Shadowrunners from the classic cyberfantasy RPG Shadowrun
neutral · AI labelView post →i think you shouldn’t GM a game like Shadowrun if you believe something far more tame than its world lore is impossible
neutral · AI labelView post →Group of pals who "Shadowrun" (basically play an in-game LARP version of Shadowrun in the universe of Shadowrun) are recruited by a REAL crime boss to do a Shadowrun...for REAL?! B-but they're just a diverse team of suspiciously hot nerds with extremely technical skills!
neutral · AI labelView post →Lets look at Shadowrun on SNES! Link: almagaming.wolfpack.xyz/gameblogP14.... This was the first game to release based on the tabletop game with a focus on story rather then the complex system it was known for. Can it still hold up as a fantastic game though? Find out!
neutral · AI labelView post →She found a fren! Trust & Nym from a Shadowrun game😊 #art
neutral · AI labelView post →Look, Shadowrun has always been a trash panda of a game to run, but the old lore and setting was goddamn **fantastic**. On vacation, hit this gaming store in Buffalo and FREAKED OUT when I found all these old lore books for cheap.
positive · AI labelView post →Download or Die - So threatens this ad for Super Nintendo Shadowrun from GameFan in October 1993. It's a pretty awesome ad and piece of artwork that captures 90s Shadowrun vibes. And not a bad little Shadowrun game. I do prefer the Sega Genesis SR game but there's a lot to like about the SNES one.
neutral · AI labelView post →From what I've read, Shadowrun wasn't released in Japan until 1994, which clues me into as to why a Shadowrun game was released very late for Mega CD with a very similar style to that which I've seen in the SNE release manuals and this module.
neutral · AI labelView post →I feel it's important to point out that this looks amazing in screenshots but in truth is a bad Shadowrun game, and a distinctly poor '90s RPG too. You're not missing anything here.
negative · AI labelView post →I am playing Shadowrun (the video game) and living out my fantasy of being a cyberpunk orc merc / detective And also this is research for an OC
positive · AI labelView post →Spent the day thinking about porn game architecture and accidentally reinvented Shadowrun. Here's some old art. #comic
neutral · AI labelView post →#Shadowrun is a problematic fave for a reason, and this article from earlier this year dug into that. #TTRPG pocgamer.com/archives/2930
neutral · AI labelView post →Shadowrun is a complicated & problematic at times game/setting. But there's nothing that scratches the itch that shadowrun does.
positive · AI labelView post →Finished Shadowrun: Dragonfall. Terrific game. Made within obvious budget constraints, it nonetheless spins a terrific yarn that makes the most of its politically unstable future-Berlin setting and the fantasy-meets-cyberpunk texture of the Shadowrun world.
positive · AI labelView post →So turns out Shadowrun has a rules-lite version of its game called Shadowrun: Anarchy. Anyone tried it? I fucking love the setting of Shadowrun but...I don't like the act of PLAYING Shadowrun? 5E might be my least favourite experience with a game system I've played from a major TTRPG release.
neutral · AI labelView post →The shadows come alive in this 1993 ad for Shadowrun, an action RPG for the SNES by Beam Software Based on FASA's TTRPG, the adventure takes players to Seattle in the year 2050 as a dystopian future grapples with megacorporate empires amidst the return of magic and beings of legend such as dragons.
neutral · AI labelView post →New #Shadowrun character, Stitches the peacemaker street shaman. Laid-back gadabout and party face. The game is set in San Fran so I decided to make the most granola hippy character I could come up with.

neutral · AI labelView post →As of this month, it is 400 months (⅓ of a century!) since the release of Shadowrun on the Super NES. VGMaps.com: The Video Game Atlas has been around for 292 months (24⅓ years) and we STILL don't have any screenshot maps of Shadowrun.

neutral · AI labelView post →Have played some more Shadowrun Returns. It's great. It makes me want to read and play Shadowrun. Yes, I realise this is almost certainly a mistake. For starters, the video game has far fewer D6s than I remember and definitely not so many munchkins...

I am looking for more players for a weekday game, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday starting around 7:00 - 9:00 PM CET and lasting around 3 hours with a break part way through. I am liking the idea of running savage worlds which presents itself as "fast, furious, fun" but I have a variety of systems that I'm comfortable running. positive · AI labelView post →Shadowrun should get its own Edgerunners style anime but lean super into the 90’s anime aesthetic from the Sega CD game.

neutral · AI labelView post →I actually have played in a game where we ported some stuff from D&D 3.5 to Shadowrun 2e, because we were doing interuniversal shenanigans and Shadowrun can represent D&D better than the other way around.
neutral · AI labelView post →If you've never played it, I highly recommend Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong you can also play Shadowrun Returns but its very much more of a proof of concept then a good game. But I'd still play it.
