A very forgivable Stealth game, great for people (like me) who love the Stealth genre but aren't very good at it. There's essentially no reason to be careful because you can always reverse time and try again without having to start the level over. This really allows for experimentation with all the different items and game physics, allowing you to enjoy everything the game has to offer without fear of punishment for …

Some games stay with you not because of cutting-edge graphics or massive budgets — but because they got everything that matters absolutely right. Shadwen is one of those games. A medieval stealth game where you play as an elven assassin on a revenge mission to kill the king who wronged her. Simple premise, perfectly executed. Along the way you pick up an orphan girl named Lily — and that's where the magic happens. …

Good to pick up on sale. It's a challenging game with either approach (stealth by sneak vs stealth by no witnesses), but remains fun enough. Light on the story, and the crafting is vestigial at best, but still a fun game. I'd say the 'no witnesses' route ends up being more fun as you can get creative as to how you take out the guards, while in the stealth run you eventually are trying to dodge so many fields of view …

Not usually a fan of stealth games, but this one absolutely rules. Two major features make it really change my mind about the genre: it auto-pauses when you're not pressing buttons, so you can look around and plan every movement like it's turn-based, and you have a dedicated rewind button, so if you mess up, you don't have to reload the entire level That plus, with the escort mechanic, they learned the lessons from …

82% of the 189 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Shadwen. The complaint that keeps coming up: aI is dumb and guards have limited vision. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

The PC and PlayStation 4 versions received "mixed or average" reviews, according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Destructoid reviewer Joe Parlock was disappointed in the PC version, noting that it wasted the potential of a really cool premise. Hardcore Gamer writer Jordan Helm's review was more positive in his critique, saying that the tactically-focus stealth gameplay enticed him to continue playing the game.

After Trine 3 I think there is a reason why this was released after Trine 3. The game that after 2 great episodes decided to go for a full 3D gameplay approach. I remember it being in early access and receiving horrendous feedback due to its short story mode and many bugs. So perhaps Frozenbyte wanted to create a new IP to showcase the 3D capabilities of their engine, plus, to include some new ideas. But who is Shadwen? Sadly, the story here is very basic. Shadwen is the titular character…

In today's gaming industry, it's becoming increasingly common to feel shortchanged by the lack of value you get for the price of a game, especially with the ever expanding world of DLC and additional monetization. Thankfully, Shadwen is a refreshing change of pace. At its core, Shadwen is a stealth game with an interesting twist you have the choice to eliminate anyone standing in your way or take the more traditional approach and sneak past enemies without leaving a trace. The freedom to…

Fun stealth game made by Frozenbyte, the developers who brought us the Trine series. In Shadwen, you play as the title character and you must find the king as you have been wronged and seek revenge. On your adventure, you quickly meet up with a young orphaned girl, Lily, who tags along. You must help either distract the guards or kill the guards so she can navigate through the levels of the game safely. It is your choice whether or not to kill, either way, you must use stealth as alerting…

Shadwen is a stealth game where you are playing as a female assassin called Shadwen, it comes from the company that create the amazing trine games. At the begging you save a girl named Lily who stick with you at your journey to enter the castle and kill the king. There are 15 levels, and you have to either kill or avoid the guards to get closer to the castle. You have a dagger and a grapplehook as weapon/item and as you proceed through the game you can colect from chest items and schematics for…

"Stealth" and "linear" are two words you usually never want to see in the same sentence. But Shadwen is still quite fun to play once you get used to the tools you have - and the various environmental hazards you can manipulate - to help you dispatch of some of those guards. The AI of the guards is ropey, to say the least. Their field of vision is quite small, and don't seem to notice when you backstab others even when you're right behind them, suggesting limited hearing as well. The girl…

While Shadwen's premise is interesting, it's not well-utilized, and the game is undeniably rough around the edges. The Superhot-esque gimmick of time only moving when you do ended up being an annoyance more than an asset, as I often found myself holding the "Advance Time" button down for extended periods. Add to this that the enemies don't react to Lily at all, and that Lily's AI will solve puzzles for you half the time, and all tension or satisfying challenge is gone. The platforming is…

Shadwen is a fine game, it did keep me playing until the end after all... begrudgingly though. I wanted it to end far earlier than the 15 levels it gave. Sometimes it felt like an endless slog. If i'm going to have to escort Lily from the start till the end, then Shadwen and Lily needed more. There is some talk between levels, and sometimes that's the only thing I enjoyed about the game, but there needed to be more. Maybe something while playing the levels aswell. A whisper when you're hiding…

An ok stealth game, but the story is pretty bland and told through the guard conversations while stealthing around levels. The combat tools game provides dont work that well, you cant even throw bombs created by crafting, you have to place them on ground, which is very janky too and pretty bad. For the achievement hunting, pretty easy 100%, it does require you to play through the game twice and replay the final level several times, but chapter select option makes it easier. Overall, it's…

It could be an okay game, but the AI was terrible. A stealth game, player controls one character and the AI controls another, the goal is to pass a map within enemies neither getting spotted nor raising alarms. The concept is simple, but execution can be hard. The younger girl cannot jump, and requires specific instruction to hide, otherwise a single soldier looking the other way can stop her walking. The game warned that killing has bad influence on the girl and suggested the player hide…

My expectation is to be blamed for it, because I thought it will be something more like my favorite [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/6980/Thief_Deadly_Shadows/]Thief… only similarity is that your main objective is to remain unseen. Sometimes you don't want to give thumbs up or down but something in between. The game is not great but but still a solid game from an indie dev. Shadwen looks like a Thief game at first maybe similar to A Plague Tale with your protégé but you have one major difference. I needed some moments to understand Lily's role. She is neither the usual damsel in distress nor a useful companion. But when she starts running from one brush into the next one I had my personal aha! moment. The game is a…

Shadwen is not Styx: Shards of Darkness but it doesn’t have to be. It is still a fun stealth based adventure game with charming characters and nice graphics. I especially like that it has different endings depending on how you have played the game (Did you kill anyone or did you sneak your way across each level). There are lots of ways to make your way through a level and the game even gives you the opportunity to rewind time to correct mistakes. The levels could use some variety (the main…

Fine for what it is, though due to the lenght of a single playthrough, I cannot recommend it for full price. At the time of writing, I've finished one stealth run of the main quest and am sitting at 6.7 hours, without playing the unlocked escape chapters. I'll return to it one day and go full aggro route, but for now this is getting shelved. Gameplay is okay, I had fun. I'd recommend this but only on sale.

I imagine the Plague Tales games had a lot of influence from Shadwen. A female protaganist and a child companion with similar stealth missions to Plague Tales in dark cities with deadly guards wandering about. The difference to Plague Tales is the time stop and reversal (similar to the game "Iron Danger"), used when you mess up and die, which is so much better than restarting the level. And also the protaganist has a rope gun (like in Dishonored) to spiderman along the rooftops. The…

Everything about the game is bad. I hate the girl she is so dumb, useless and tedious. Why she has no use like why she can't make a noise to distract a guard that is going to spot the player. And it's so bad everything stops when you stop so if you want to wait for a guard to go away you have to hold a button. Shortly it's bad and doesn't worth it's price.

This game is just kind of boring. It has some cool mechanics in it and it's worth playing for a little, but after three or four levels of the same types of obstacles over and over, I just felt done. If the AI were better, or there were more types of enemies, or if the controls weren't as clunky, maybe it could be worth getting at full price, but the graphics and interesting storyline are basically only worth it if you get this title on sale.

For a budget title, it's okay. You can sometimes even find this on sale for $1. Keeping that in mind, I'm giving it a thumbs-up. Shadwen is first and foremost a stealth game. Shadwen, the title character, cannot fight enemies head-on. Being spotted usually results in an instant crossbow bolt to her noggin, or guards running to the nearest alarm bell, both of which is a game over. However, you have many weapons on your side. First, Shadwen can quickly assassinate most guards via backstabs,…

This could have been a great game, apart from a few apparently untested "features" Time stops unless you hold a key down: - This makes swinging and moving around very difficult - Holding a key down for long periods makes your hand ache. That's not fun. It is good to see stealth type games still being made such as Styx Master Of Shadows and this one. It's not perfect by any means, there are some issues with the AI, but even the great Thief Gold had that so this is a welcome addition. It has some re-playability, you can play levels sparing all guards by using distraction methods or do the complete opposite while using traps or dropping from height takedowns. All in all a nice fun game. Everything seems to be in order.

Shadwen feels more like a college kid's project that barely passed as a video game than it does as an actual game. It feels more experimental than it does an actual finished product, even from an indie studio. Too much of the studio's previous work can be seen here and it's obvious that they didn't want to step too far out of their comfort zone. Good game. Fun concept. Feels kinda like it had the rug pulled out from under it near the end of it's development period. There are some tell tale signs of unfinished mechanics and unpolished details. Overall it is a game and a full one at that! Would not agree with some comments that its one big escort mission - Lily's AI is quite good and she don't sabotage any efforts, sometimes helps showing the way. In spite of some of the game's jank and rough edges, Shadwen is a delight in how it uses both clever puzzle design and player freedom to create a really, really solid stealth title. Though it's light on plot, Shadwen's central hook is central to understanding it as a game. Playing as the assassin Shadwen in a fairly standard dark-fantasy setting, players must traverse a guard-ridden city to kill the king; however, your task is rendered more complicated as you need to protect a little girl who…

One issue I've found with stealth games is that the concept of a lone commando outsmarting and sneaking past 30+ guards is pretty unbelievable to begin with, unless the player controlling the commando is actually a tactical genius. So, games tend to have to play pretty unrealistically in order to make the result playable by average players (idiot guards, x-ray vision, generous interpretations of darkness, super movement abilities, etc) Something I think could be further explored is a game that…

An escort mission was converted to a stealthy game of stabbing backs. Pretty cool mechanics include building your own weapons with stuff you collect along the way, and TIME TRAVEL... It is very forgiving, but good luck playing this without TIME TRAVEL

Great stealth game! An easy recommend to any fan of the genre. Fun little time rewind to easily undo silly mistakes. Grapple hook to get on perch points and swing by guards or swing into a drop assassinate. Crazy ass doohicky gadgets that can be combined, for example the rolling rat in a ball distraction tool and strap TNT to it and send it towards a group of guards to take them all out at once.

One of the best stealth games I have played. Good gameplay, good history... Is a great game in general terms. Special mention for spanish language support.(Subtitles).

Purchased for a steep discount. Overall very well done, high production values. Stealth mechanics were easy to understand and use; grappling hook mechanics were not as easy to use; crafting and upgrades basically weren't necessary at all in my session (played to completion). I didn't find any situations that required use of the crafted equipment, and I think that was a missed opportunity in design. Feels like the equipment was an add-on and not wholly incorporated into gameplay, could have…

Small but cool game, had a blast going through it. I don't play enough of this genre (is this a genre?) to know if it's super unique but the "pacifism" in front of the child and a lot of environment interactions set it apart from other stealth-involved games I have played so far.

It's a decent stealth-action game. It incorporates the 'time only progresses when you move' gimmick, it also allows you to re-wind time which is nice. You never really see a 'game over' screen because of it, only a "you died, press R to rewind" screen if you happen to die. It's not a very difficult game, I'd go so far as to say it's actually quite easy once you start to understand how the game works. You can go through the entire game without killing anyone if you want, or you can kill as many…

Beautiful game. I ended it twice. It doesn't have a complex story but the gameplay, game mechanics and the environment are awesome.

It has been a long time since I finished a stealth game and was able to say they kept it stealth throughout, they skipped the random forced action sequences fights, and unneeded action boss fights along the way, In this day an age not enough stealth writers and developers understand its importance, so a huge thank for keeping it a stealth game and not turning it into to an action stealth game. I finished it with a huge smile and will look back fondly.

Shadwen is probably the weakest title from the team that brought us the Trine series. For an indie stealth title it does the job, but be warned, it is a budget title. Game length came in at ~10 hours for two full runs. AI is ridiculously dumb and the lack of interaction between Lily and Shadwen is a little disappointing. The overall game play was pretty typical for the stealth genre although, very uninspired. I would only recommend this title to avid Frozenbyte/Stealth fans and at an extremely…

It's okay, but it's lacking anything unique or memorable. The levels are pretty linear, and the rope physics are just weird. You might as well replay any Assassin's Creed for a better experience. It's been a while since I tried Styx, but I'd recommend that over this game as well.

A fun game with tons of interesting mechanics but far from a good one in my opinion. I initially dragged my feet in playing this game to my surprise the game was a lot funner than i had imagined it would be. Shadwen is a stealth game with the unique mechanic of time. As long as you move time moves no sooner you stop it stops even in mid-air you can also rewind time to fix any mistakes/missteps through the various sections of the game. However with such an fresh concept the game itself…

Shadowen is a charming stealth game with an inventive time rewind mechanic, like visualizing your path and executing it. If you love sneaking around and a medieval setting, if you grew up playing Thief - definitely grab this gem! I believe what sold me the most on it however was the setting. You don't need much to fully go with the intent of the game. It doesn't soak you in world lore, it doesn't feel like you miss any information either. It's an event happening during the time of one night and…
