I finished Silent Hill: Townfall. Unfortunately, the game finished me first. I went into this expecting psychological horror. What I got was a psychological experiment designed to determine exactly how long a person can crouch behind a wall waiting for an enemy to walk away before they start questioning their life choices. - I've now since finished a playthrough on normal with the "Abandoned" ending. Yeah a solid 8/10. It wants to say some things about justice that I'll digest on additional playthroughs. I'm about an hour in and il say that while the game isn't optimized the best, the game itself is impeccable. The atmosphere is on the same level as the SH2 remake and the general feeling of the game is silent hill at its peak. The first person camera and CRT scanner are a welcome addition to the Silent Hill gameplay loop. I would absolutely recommend this game to any survival horror fan. Screen Burn nailed it here.

Review After 100% Achievements I’ll take as many Silent Hill games that I can get my hands on. While I would personally put Townfall in third place (among the modern releases) behind SH2 Remake & SHf, it was still a really solid experience. The sound design, atmosphere, and story really make the game for me. Some of the puzzles were tough to put together, which forces you to thoroughly explore and gather …

Initially I was going to give this game a thumbs up, but, having finished it, I just can't recommend it to anyone who values their time. There are some things that I loved about this game, namely the setting and sound design. St. Amelia, the town itself, is arguably the best part of the game and it's one of the best settings I've seen in a horror game. The introduction to the town during the first couple of hours is phenomenal and makes you want to dig deeper into its mystery. It looks…

Silent Hill: Townfall is ultimately a very uneven experience with extremely high production values that fails to justify its existence in this franchise, much like f before it. But unlike how f was still an enjoyable experience if divorced from its namesake, Townfall is a very troubling sign of Konami slipping back into the same mismanagement that put the series on ice for a decade. EDIT: I ended up finishing the game hoping that things would even out. Overall, the game has great atmosphere, sound design, and VAs. As I said before, I love stealth games so I fully expected to spend a lot of the time crouch walking, checking the tv, and hiding. When the hiding starts to feel more like waiting, that's when the frustration goes up and interest goes down. Only recommend on a sale. At full price, no. The story is great. Gameplay is a slog. A lot of "wait for the enemy trapped in molasses to slowly move away, and now you can walk across" as it's stealth mechanic. For a game that bills itself as a stealth horror, it's kind weird how older games that offer stealth as a SIDE mechanic have way more depth than this. It's a lot of tedious "wait and go" gameplay. Sometimes a particular unkillable enemy will literally camp the only path you have,…

Where do I start? I really wanted to like Silent Hill: Townfall, but the biggest problem with this game is it completely misses on everything that makes a Silent Hill game special. Silent Hill games, at their best, make you feel uncomfortable, uneasy and scared of everything. You spend way too much time hiding like a mouse, staring at the enemy patrol around while you do absolutely nothing. It’s not tense. It’s not scary. It’s just boring. As someone with a pretty Mid-Tier computer (5 year old graphics card by this point), with up-to-date graphics drivers, this game runs fine. The "constant stutters" are once every 5-10 minutes, usually when crossing a load zone, and don't affect gameplay in the slightest.
