A Well-Designed Puzzle Undermined by RNG Personal opinion – 4.5/10 Slay the Spire is a clever concept with a strong foundation, but its heavy reliance on RNG ultimately overshadows its strategic depth. While the game presents itself as a skill-based, deck-building roguelike, in practice too many runs are decided by factors outside the player’s control. I’m fully aware that the fanbase often reacts poorly to …

Before You Read I picked this game up during the Winter Sale last year because it appeared in the historical low price section. Honestly, it was an impulse purchase and I was not even sure if I would ever play it. It turned out to be a complete eye opener. Before playing this game, I had absolutely no experience with card games. Not even in real life. I did not know what deck building meant or how it worked. Yet …

Slay the Spire is what happens when a deck-building game looks at your free time, your sanity, and your fragile human hope, then politely asks if it can borrow them forever—and you say yes because the cards make a nice *shuffling sound*. You begin as a humble adventurer climbing a cursed tower. Within minutes, you are no longer an adventurer—you are a gambling addict in medieval cosplay, desperately praying that …

All I can say is that this is the best game I have ever played. If you put the time into learning Slay the Spire it will hook you like no other game and give you an extremely satisfying yet very difficult challenge. This game is not easy, and yet I think that it is one of the most amazing things about it. There are so many games that have very interesting and deep gameplay mechanics that go completely unused and …

Slay the Spire – On Suffering, Redemption, and Being Body-Slammed by a Donut Playtime: 130 hours People always ask, "How do you understand the human condition?" Dostoevsky says it's suffering and redemption. Camus says we're just rolling a boulder up a hill forever. Neruda says look into your lover's eyes. But me? I think the human condition is spending forty-five minutes carefully curating a deck of cards, feeling …

Critics, per Wikipedia
According to Mega Crit, the game's first early access release in November 2017 was very slow, with about 2000 copies selling across the first weeks, the period in which most games sell the most copies. While they had seeded redemption keys with streamers and influencers, these had not converted into sales. It was not until a Chinese streamer featured the game on their channel that had over a million views that Mega Crit started to see a large rise in sales. During the week ending January 21, 2018, Slay the Spire was the second highest-sold game on Steam. By February 2018, the game had more than 500,000 players, according to SteamSpy estimates. Mega Crit announced that by the end of June,…

positive · AI labelView post →"Oh i dont have any budgets, that's why i used AI as placeholder voices, images and musics" ❌WRONG❌ Slay The Spire 2, the MOST anticipated roguelike deckbuilder of the year, uses these silly scribbles as placeholder arts, and they are 1000 times more charming than any slop those will ever produce.
neutral · AI labelView post →Thinking about how much better Slay the Spire was because of the extremely funny beta art. imagine if they just prompted a machine to "make card art serious game clumsy", what a boring world that is

positive · AI labelView post →I think this is correct but will take it further and say the more hours you get out of a video game, the more expensive it should be regardless of budget. Slay the Spire should cost fifteen thousand dollars
positive · AI labelView post →For all of these game devs that keep coming out saying, "well we had to use AI to generate placeholder images for our game otherwise it wouldn't work." I present to you, Slay the Spire II (The last one is my favorite)
neutral · AI labelView post →Slay the Spire: The Board Game is really clever in that it manages to capture the vibe of the video game's difficulty while actually being significantly easier
positive · AI labelView post →This game is so good that it has taken me close to 200 hours of gameplay before I finally realized that I am trash at this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slay the Spire - SLAY The Spire, we love the game don't we folks, the little cards, people are always saying to me "sir I can't play The Defect! It's too hard, I couldn't beat the heart," yet I've beaten the heart many times, some are saying the most it's ever been done

positive · AI labelView post →saw the slay the spire in my steam library and fell in again. Beaten this game so many times and it’s insane how it feels fresh again every six months- WHEN IS 2 WHEN IS SLAY THE SPIRE 2 WHEN WILL IT OUT
positive · AI labelView post →A reminder that it is almost always better to have janky placeholder or doodle art than AI-generated trash. Y'know what game did that? Slay The Spire, and EVERYBODY ON EARTH loves Slay The Spire.
neutral · AI labelView post →After 152.3 hours of playing this game, I thought it might be best for me to uninstall it so that I could focus more on my school work so that I can graduate and get my Bachelor's degree. One week later, Slay the Spire II was released. I am going to fricking fail my classes, bro.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My kid got me into this game via the board game. We played that thing to death....well, the heart never really dies... but my son had been playing the digital game, and well, let's just say I have put 120 hours into this game in the last few weeks....Need to get back to work now....or....maybe one more game.

neutral · AI labelView post →Slay the Spire. The game requires you to use all your brainpower on the highest difficulty even if you already sunk hundreds of hours into it. The learning curve is almost endless and no 2 runs are the same. The game has tremendous depth and the longer you play, the more you can appreciate it.

positive · AI labelView post →Now seems to be the perfect time to review Slay the Spire. As we sit right now, during the Steam Winter Sale 2025, it is $2.49. That is a total steal. On the surface, it might look a little bland. The art style isn't necessarily going to win any awards for beauty. Although I don't actually mind it, there's kind of a charm to it. But objectively, not the prettiest. The game shines among deckbuilders for the card interactions, the character abilities and the way the game sets up the path to the…

You can stop playing at literally any moment, you don't even need to pause; you don't need internet connection, so you can play on a plane; it's incredibly deep, brilliant, fun, and as immersive as you can afford to be immersed without punishing you for not being able to commit.
