Sniper Elite III is a 2014 third-person tactical shooter stealth video game developed and published by Rebellion Developments. What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 205 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (23,414 of 28,538 positive).
Players praise the satisfying sniping mechanics and open-ended levels. [1][2][3] Some reviewers report technical issues like crashes and poor optimization. [4][5][6] Several players find the game inferior to its sequel, Sniper Elite 4. [7][4][8]

Sniper Elite 3 is the weakest Sniper Elite game I have played so far. The game is mostly focused on stealth, despite offering the player a very limited selection of tools to complete the missions stealthily, which leads to a quite repetitive gameplay loop compared to Sniper Elite 4 and 5. The enemy AI is incompetent at tracking down the player, even on the highest difficulty, but extremely accurate with their SMGs …

This game was great when it came out in 2014. In 2026, it is plagued with frequent crashes, mission-breaking bugs, and it devours the CPU. Aged very poorly. Even if there weren't stability issues, the gameplay itself is vastly inferior to its successor, Sniper Elite 4. You can feel free to skip this one without missing anything.

Sniper Elite 3 is definitely a game for the patient player the kind who enjoys setting up the perfect shot rather than rushing in guns blazing. Every mission rewards careful planning, tactical movement, and staying hidden behind enemy lines. When everything comes together lining up that long distance headshot or sneaking through an entire outpost unnoticed it’s genuinely satisfying. The story itself is simple and …

Sniper Elite 3 is a fun tactical sniper game set during World War II. The large maps give you freedom to choose different approaches, and the sniping mechanics feel satisfying. The famous X-Ray kill cam is entertaining and makes successful shots more rewarding. While the story is simple, the gameplay and stealth action make it an enjoyable experience.

Sniper Elite 3 is one of those games that I keep coming back to. It’s definitely not perfect, but there’s something really satisfying about taking your time, finding a good position, and lining up that perfect shot. The open maps give you more freedom than I expected, and I like that you can approach most situations in different ways instead of just running in and shooting everything. The stealth, traps, sniping and …

67% of the 205 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sniper Elite 3. The complaint that keeps coming up: frequent crashes and bugs on modern systems. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Sniper Elite III received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Hardcore Gamer's Matt Whittaker gave the game a 3/5, writing: "Though its stealth-based sniping gameplay can provide some exciting moments, Sniper Elite III is a decidedly mixed bag. Its abysmal narrative, outdated mission design, boring protagonist and weak non-campaign modes overshadow everything that it does well." Tyler Wilde of PC Gamer criticised graphics ("the character faces are plastic-like") and enemy AI, but praised the player's freedom ("It's a lot of fun to come up with a plan and execute it, and Sniper Elite 3 gives me the freedom and tools to do that"). As far as stealth…

neutral · AI labelView post →- lots of collsion issues (shooting through the window or railings? good luck) - sound masking has issues and at times makes no sense - enemy ai is braindead even at authentic difficulty - one of the achievements requires you to own two other games namely sniper elite and sniper elite v2 (are you ******* kidding me?) - finishing the game on higher difficulty does NOT unlock achievements for finishing on lower difficulties! (for example I finished on sniper elite difficulty but did not receive…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sniper Elite 3 is a very bad game. The graphics are simply bad, even with everything on maximum, and the game looks much worse in actual gameplay than it does in the Steam screenshots. I cannot use its age as an excuse either, because there were already better-looking games in 2014. The biggest problem, however, is the detection system. The sirens are supposed to make noise and alert enemies in the surrounding area that a sniper has been detected. That makes sense. What does not make sense…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken on modern Nvidia drivers. If you're crashing and NvMemMapStorage.dll is the culprit, you literally have to rollback your drivers and risk bricking your pc for the game to work. Good game, but if you want to play a game exactly like this but with none of the driver issues, go play Sniper Elite 4. Maybe it works fine if you have a Radeon Update: I forgot to mention, this rollback I did had a domino effect of breaking normal nvidia drivers and even windows itself somehow to the point I…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a lot of fun playing through Sniper Elite 3. The North Africa setting is a nice change from the usual Europe or pacific scenery allowing the levels to be pretty big and open giving you plenty of ways to approach each mission. The sniping is the best part of the game just like the second one and it has only gotten better having improved visuals, more weapon choices and weapons feeling more impactful. The X-ray kill cam is still as brutal and satisfying as ever. Story wise it's nothing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having bought the game for the listed feature of cooperative-play, we could not invite each other to a cooperative lobby at all, kept saying it timed out. We tried verifying files, uninstalling & reinstalling clean, letting the launcher & game executables through the firewall, port-forwarding, updating unrelated drivers & software, & even attempted two different kinds of LAN software for local. Nothing worked, we could not invite each other to a cooperative game & the feature is visibly broken…

There's been an update and if you play the current build you'll have to finish at least 4 times over which suuuuuucks. Just know that if you change depots you'll loose all progression, and you can only play MP with the same game version. Co-op on Authentic was fine, we had restarts and tense moments but got it in the end. MP challenges you can boost very easily. You'll also need a partner for 3 overwatch maps.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has gotta be the absolute worst in the entire franchise. The maps are drawn out and boring, with not much going on in any of them, it is basically just deserts with some buildigns you can go inside. Which is fine, it is Africa, but they really shot themselves in the foot making that the set piece, because all of the maps as result feel the same. The story is non-existent, the main bad-guy, if you can even call him the "main bad guy" isn't even revealed or shown, or even talked about,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game thinking I could play co-op with a friend, just like we did with Sniper Elite V2 Remastered. I was wrong. As of the writing of this review, every single minute of play time I have on this game was spent trying to find some way to get co-op to work. Saw video reviews of the game and thought it looked good. I didn't think that co-op and multiplayer would be abandoned like this. We tried anything and everything to get it to work. Uninstall and clean install, messing with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically every time I die in Sniper Elite 3 it's because I keep forgetting that in this game, Karl will just walk off the roof like a cartoon character if I don't explicitly tell him to use the ladder.
negative · AI labelView post →Sniper Elite 3 is a pretty decent sniper game, not being the best, but still enjoyable! Pros: -The setting: the North Africa of the World War 2 period is not exploited by many games, which adds a little to see and explore because of the huge and beautiful open levels -The concept of Sniper nests scattered across the maps, but this is a bit of a mixed bag because some are wonderfully placed, and some are pretty useless objective-wise -The ballistics and bullet-physics in general are incredible,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My brothers game after a crash(mid-mission) is stuck at 18-30 fps @ 1080p....with a 3070.... worked PERFECT before crash(100+fps). also was forced to replace the Launcher to even get game started... HOURS(10+) wasted trying to get his game to perform like pre-crash.... its a compatability layer thing now(I think). We gave up after 2 nights WASTED, reading and trying everything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Prepare for clunky mechanics. It's an older game, so you can expect that and bugs. However, this is one of the few games (which I can count on one hand) where I've yelled words like "R*t*rd" at the character you're playing, as the character doesn't always do what I want or expect. Examples include stopping climbing a ladder so you'll end up in front of an enemy, or throwing a rock not where I wanted. personal oppionion sometimes this game of the serie is over the top. like you playing a sniper…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coming from Sniper Elite 4. I like this predecessor, it is Better than I thought it would be. Graphics and sound are totally acceptable. The game works fine for me using Windows 11. No crashes or freezing so far. Bought at discount and worth it. Aiming to buy Sniper Elite 5 later on. Over and out..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story was amazing, as always, but I genuinely don’t think they could’ve made it any shorter. The entire campaign took me less than four hours—lol. That’s probably the least amount of content I’ve ever gotten from a game. Great story, though!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's definitely the weakest in the series overall, and it has the extra issue of lacking a borderless windowed mode, which feels like a basic requirement of every game. I'll change this review if they ever patch it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a 6/10 game. there are few good missions in the game and the x-ray kill is just prefect. BUT buy it only with a discount at steam sales. its nor worth 29 euros in 2026
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: You have very few tools to kill enemies stealthily, and the game punishes you if you don't kill everyone with those very limited tools, effectively forcing you to repeat the same tricks over and over again. The gameplay becomes extremely repetitive, let alone the forgettable story that barely makes any sense. They have no idea how to make a stealth game, and sniping isn't good in loud combat. The stealth mechanics are okay but lack polish. The main problem is the irregular time-based…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →runs extremely well and graphics hold up to 2026 expectations, but for a game this old it does show its age, in things like movement and physics even some mechanics still feel a bit janky but its nothing major, overall very fun even now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best Sniper Elite game in my opinion. It's graphics still stand, even after 8 years (as of writing this review). A unique game, with a good "COD" vibe, delivering "realistic" mechanics, amazing camera angles and well-thought maps that make this experience unique.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A mess, technical and gameplay wise... (2026 perspective) Saves drives me crazy, detection system is unpredictible and random, No shot masking sounds where it counts. It has became a spec-ops simulator you sneak araund so much. Imo a waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is genuinely held up on stilts and black magic. One of the buggiest, most inconsistent experiences of the past year, hitscan tanks, enemies that see and shoot you through solid cover or entire buildings. Random NPCS glitching out and spawning five feet to the right of their current patrol line, the leaning out of cover barely working half the time and sending your crosshair straight into a piece of solid rock while your body is being conveniently peppered by 3 machinegunners. Did I…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: A great mix of stealth and action, what Sniper Elite is really meant to be. I think 3 is the best in the series at mixing the genres. Game has no silencers like later titles (except for 2 very short range pistols), so the game rewards careful planning before attacking. Lay mines, plan escape routes, and mark all the enemies you can find before shooting to give yourself the advantage. Maps feel very intelligently designed. There's a lot of replayablity in just studying the maps and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another successful entry in the Sniper Elite series Pros: Gameplay: Once again, gameplay is king here. It's just so much fun to spot enemies, plan your approach strategically, and pick off the enemy forces one by one. Setting & Level Design: The level design and the setting involving the Afrika Korps are really well executed. The levels are super varied and detailed. I actually just finished playing through it on my second run. Badass Protagonist: Karl Fairburne is simply a total badass…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the community really hypes up this entry, it was rather underwhelming as my introduction to the Sniper Elite games. Sniper mechanics aside, it's another generic WWII shooter with a cookie cutter story, 1-Dimensional characters, and superficial stealth mechanics. Ran pretty rough on my new hardware. It scratched an itch, but was very forgettable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Sniper Elite 3 follows a very similar pattern to its predecessor. A methodical, old-school shooter with satisfying x-ray kill cams, wind calculation, shot masking and not-so-authentic bullet drop. This time around, the level design is more open, offering more freedom to approach mission objectives. It’s a welcome improvement over the linear missions of Sniper Elite 2, though some areas still funnel you into close-quarters combat. The North African setting brings a welcome…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, especially after playing Zombie Army Trilogy and having an utter BLAST with it. So unfortunately, I am not having fun with it so far. Movement in this game is miserable. The normal movement is genuinely useless. 90% of the time, you're going to be moving in the crouched or prone position to prevent your footsteps from alerting guards and to keep from "Elite Sniper" Karl Fairburne's BPM to skyrocket from moving faster than 1 MPH. The other 10% will be spent…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The control of your character in this game is Horrible. the interface is so sloppy the character shifts into sight lines when I'm no longer pressing buttons. If this had been the first version of this game I had ever played I would have never played another one. Fortunately , I have played 5 and V2 first. They are better.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Sniper Elite 4 first, so I decided to go back and retry Sniper Elite 3—and wow, this game feels absolutely awful to play. I honestly don’t know how I could like 4 so much and completely dislike this one. Going backward makes you realize just how clunky and primitive everything feels. The movement is stiff, the stealth mechanics feel broken, and the level design is way more restrictive. It’s crazy how much of a massive leap forward the fourth game was because playing 3 just feels…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →English: When the mechanics actually work, it is a massive improvement over the second game. However, the game just completely loses its mind entirely too often. If I alt-tab, it refuses to come back. I was forced to play in windowed mode, and even then, it randomly crashes. After playing for about 5.4 hours, enduring consecutive bugs and the misery of windowed mode, I just gave up. People made fun of Cyberpunk for its bugs, but at least those developers fixed their game. Here, the developers…
