What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 193 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (3,273 of 4,180 positive).
Players praise the satisfying sniper mechanics and the iconic X-ray kill cam. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game feels dated with clunky controls and poor AI. [1][4][5] Many find the remaster a decent upgrade but not a major overhaul. [6][7][8]

It has aged so poorly. The killcam mechanic is still pretty cool, don't get me wrong but the player controls like a tank, NPCs are twitchy and either dumb/clueless or omniscient/wallhacking, and most importantly it's very repetitive and in many cases kinda broken. I had several moments where I had to restart missions because essential NPCs were getting stuck in walls or events were not triggering. I had multiple …

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is exactly what you expect, a polished up version of a 2012 classic that still holds up in the ways that matter most. Line up your shot, hold your breath, squeeze the trigger, and watch that killcam do its thing. Few games nail that satisfying sniper fantasy quite like this one. That said, the AI is a mess. Enemies spot you through solid cover like they've got X-ray vision and the …

really satisfying sniper shooting, and at least for me, challenging but rewarding stealth gameplay. seeing your bullet slow motion shatter a nazi's skull and grey matter shatter will never get old.

After sinking nearly 80 hours into this game and securing all the achievements, I can confidently say this remaster brings a classic back to life beautifully. The updated visuals and performance give a fresh coat of paint to the crumbling ruins of WWII Berlin, making an already good game great. The gameplay is incredibly fun and refined. It’s very easy to get into; there’s not a steep learning curve, so you can …

Despite being a remaster of the original, this game does feel quite dated. The AI is really dumb by today's standards and the controls can be a bit awkward. Still a fun and satisfying game. Really short, I managed to blast through this in 4 hours so get this during a sale. It's definitely worth the full price.

82% of the 193 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sniper Elite V2 Remastered. The complaint that keeps coming up: clunky controls and awkward movement. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

60 of 253 · most liked firstDo not play this unless you are a fan of the franchise. This is not a remaster, it's a cash grab. Graphically this is not much better than the original. The controls are the same clunky mess as they were in 2012, which makes the game frustratingly difficult. Every weapon sucks, all of them. .30-06 to the torso is not considered lethal in one round in this game unless you hit the heart. There have been zero updates to the enemy AI. And it is so buggy it's not funny. Gold bars and wine…

neutral · AI labelView post →Sniper Elite 2 Remastered has several problems that, in my opinion, cannot simply be justified by its age. The original game was released in 2012, and while the clunky movement and some of its outdated mechanics are understandable, the biggest issues affect the core gameplay. The hit registration is probably the most frustrating one. There were several situations where I aimed directly at an enemy, fired, and watched the bullet pass through the character and hit the wall behind him. Firing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, this is a decent game. The game tries to present itself in the tutorial as having the ability to set up traps and have a more dynamic experience playing the game. That might be true on repeat playthroughs, but on your first playthrough you likely won't have this experience. The game is fairly linear. Setting up traps or moving around the map in new ways isn't as expansive as the game presents itself as being. Remember: the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After years of starting this game, not getting it, and giving up on it, I finally started this playthrough of Sniper Elite V2 and "got it." I've always believed that a video game is at its best when it's a conversation between a developer and a player, and for the first time I finally picked up what they were putting down. Sniping tunnels separated by precarious stealth, featuring a few time sensitive head-on attacks. And I was having so much fun, with so much vindication for finally giving…

PROS: ➕Sniping kill cam is great ➕Good sniping look and feel NEUTRALS: 🔹Quality remaster - graphics/performance, but gameplay is old and remains untouched CONS: ➖No way to see health(?) ➖No way to swap aiming shoulder (?) ➖Has 2012 jank ➖Enemy AI is dumb ➖Can’t change difficulty mid-game without restarting campaign…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**Sniper Elite V2 Remastered Review** This is honestly one of the worst remasters I’ve played. Even visually, it barely feels like anything has been done. The lighting and textures might be slightly improved, but most of the time it looks so similar to the original that you could probably throw a decent ReShade preset on the old version and achieve something comparable. For something being sold as a “Remastered” release, it feels incredibly lazy and reeks of a cash grab. The controls aren’t…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really poor combat, enemies can consistently hit you with assault rifles from 180m+ away while you are behind cover. It does not feel like realistic difficulty, it is just unfair and leads to most of the time spent in combat sections hiding or trying to bait the enemy ai.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I loved the original version of the game during it's time, I have to say people who don't get nostalgic about this game should pass. I bought it on sale just to see if it had any improvements, but there aren't other than maybe some graphical tweaks. While modern Sniper Elite games (5 and Resistance) are more historically unauthentic with the weapon mods you can make and the various freaky items you can use (impact/sticky grenades being two of them), overall they allow you to kit out for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started with SE4, then played 5 and now tried 2. 2 is garbage from a past era. It would have been still playable with manual save but this way it's just useless. One can feel all the game design fails from that time: Poorly placed Checkpoints, no auto save even after 30 kills, no manual save, everything is grey and enemies SPAWN. Everyone hates spawning enemies since like ever. And this doesn't work at all for an SE. Because you clear areas before you enter them, doh. Additionally, this game…

What I remember from playthroughs were nice graphics and cool sound effects. - Sniper Elite V2 Remastered - I have done it in few coop sessions with my brother. The ability to finish the full singleplayer campaign in coop is a great feature in games and this is what I look for nowadays. - Hellblade: Senua Sacrifice - quite repetitive mechanic, but for story lovers is very fun to sink in - Start Wars Battlefront II - similar opinion like for Battlefield…

neutral · AI labelView post →Probably the first genuinely enjoyable game of the series, with SE1 in my opinion feeling dated and clumsy, even at release. This V2 revamp brings a fresh sprinkling of modernity, catering for much prettier graphics at 4K, yet retaining the core values of the original release back in 2012. You can see the trace elements in this that became default features within the subsequent games - explosive fuel tanks on vehicles and to name one feature in particular. A pity that the laying of grenade…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: this game gave my dog explosive and contagious gonorrhea. He is now dead and I am suing the developer for damages. Let’s start with the good: the sniping mechanics themselves are generally fun. Unlike the sequels, there are more actual set pieces based on sniping instead of levels constantly funneling you right up the target’s buttcheek to actually kill them. Now for the bad. It is 100% linear and has a terrible borderline mandatory cover system. You cannot swap shoulders and…

neutral · AI labelView post →A reasonable game, mostly well put together. Context: I played through once on the hardest difficulty. This is my first play of a Sniper Elite game. I purchased this with the rest of the series on significant discount. Pros: Seems historically accurate (though I do not know enough to be sure) Reasonably dynamic NPC AI. Shooting felt good, and I was generally getting better at estimating distance and quickly correcting for misses by the end. Reasonable stealth system, silenced pistol…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(edit: One additional major gripe is the censorship this game, along with most games taking place during WWII, has with certain WWII content. censorship in a game, for me, taints the game for me) The story of the game is pretty interesting, and I do like how the game progresses from "the Germans are the main enemies" to "the Soviets and Germans are the enemies" to finally "the Soviets are the real enemies'. Don't really see a transition from main antagonists like that all that often. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) A very focused, old school shooter with slower, more tactical play. The emphasis on timing each shot while accounting for wind, distance, and bullet drop and also masking it with loud background sounds feels great. But of course, the x-ray kill cam is the star of the show. It gives the game a unique identity that sets it apart from other shooters, and it never gets old (at least in my case). Some kill cams are simply hilarious, like executing high-ranking officer from…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First playthrough review time. Sniper Elite V2 is more of a remake of the 2005 game than a direct follow-up. It takes place during the last part of World War II and focuses mostly on long-distance shooting. The gameplay is in third person, but it changes to a closer view when aiming. There are other weapons too, but the main part of the game is sniping. One of the key features is a special camera that follows the bullet, showing the damage it causes in detail. Compared to the original,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not good. The controls stick out as the immediate problem. Duck walking is too slow, it's easy to get stuck on the environment, cover mechanics lag behind Gears of War (a game from 2006), and you'll randomly be forced out of prone into a crouched position the nanosecond your body collides with something slightly elevated on the floor (often cover you're trying to stay behind). There is no camera shoulder switching which makes indoor segments very awkward to navigate. The stealth…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only really got this one because I had issues lunching the old game for some reason. Apart from graphics and textures, there wasn't mutch done to improve gameplay from the old version. I believe it would have made a huge improvement if they had added some of the same game style mechanics as in III and 4. The game itself is alright for it's age, but I don't see it as a proper remaster. Would suggest avoiding unless maybe it's you're first time playing V2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Picked up Sniper Elite V2 Remastered on sale and ended up way more hooked than I expected. The sniping just feels great, taking your time, lining up a shot, adjusting for distance and wind, then boom. Still one of the most satisfying sniper mechanics out there. The X-ray kill cam never gets old , and the remastered visuals are a nice upgrade without changing what made the original good. Levels are well designed and actually reward patience instead of just running and gunning.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict 👍 Recommended I finished Sniper Elite V2 Remastered in about 4 hours and I genuinely had fun. The story is short and sometimes feels almost embarrassingly weak — like it’s barely trying — but the game never pretends it’s a deep narrative masterpiece anyway. What matters here is the gameplay, and it delivers: sniping feels good, the pacing is simple and satisfying, and those slow-motion X-ray bullets are still hilarious and brutal in the best way — blasting through throats, hearts……
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was decent during its time but that was nostalgia. The game is pretty terrible if you compared it to its sequels: Stealth barely exist for this game. AI most of the time will instantly spot you and know where you are. In addition to that, AI is dumb. They will shoot behind a wall for some reason. This game is basically CQC most of the time. However, secondary and pistol ammo are pretty limited which made combat feels worse. There is barely any reason for using dynamites and mines because…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →when i played the original i remembered it being fun, but now the game is so dated and janky. feels like the stealth mechanics were a footnote. don't really have the will to finish it. would recommend playing one of the newer games instead, SE3 and onward. if you can deal with the jank then go for it but this is sadly going to be a not recommend for me.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is my first Sniper Elite game. I find it to be pretty fun, though noticeably dated. I don't feel like the story is all that good, or if there is much of one. The main character says a short paragraph about what he's doing then you go on a sniping spree, repeat. It's a fairly janky game, very reminiscent of classic Xbox360 games so it's both a combo of being very INFURIATING and mildly charming, to say the least. AI is also clearly from that era. All in all, I like it. I'm playing…

I do understand that its a remaster of an older game, but shooting with silenced pistol is just horrible, sometimes I got anxious even when im next to person and aiming at their head. Story is somewhat okay. Stealth is pretty much possible only if you finished this game few times so you know a pattern. I prefer stealth always, but in this game i find it impossible, you can do this only for some period until game sends u 300 russians or germans. Overall, game is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Sniper Elite V2 has aged in plenty of obvious ways, especially in its movement, close-range combat, stealth and AI, but the core sniping remains incredibly satisfying. Accounting for distance and wind, hitting tiny weak points and watching the X-ray killcam never stopped being fun. Nostalgia definitely helps, but there is still a genuinely good game underneath it. 7/10. I played the original version many years ago, so there is definitely some nostalgia doing work here.
