What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 259 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (6,619 of 9,301 positive).
Some reviewers warn of a bait-and-switch with paid DLC and FOMO events. [1][2][3] Others enjoy the grind and progression, comparing it to games like RuneScape. [4][5][6]

Imagine fighting Ignis 5-6 times, restart after restart, until you finally beat him with a sliver of health. Then you get prompted with a server error when attempting to hit the checkpoint. You get returned to the title menu, then when logging back in, you're pushed back to before the boss fight.. Why is this game even server based anyways when I'm playing SOLO..?

❌ TOTAL BAIT-AND-SWITCH – DO NOT BUY The Broken Promise: I bought this game specifically because it was advertised as a premium, buy-to-play standalone PC experience with NO mobile gacha nonsense or paywalls. The Reality: Netmarble waited until players sunk dozens of hours into the game and passed the 2-week automated Steam refund window before dropping a massive paid DLC paywall. Paywalled Content: The highly …

Ok so first off. My goal in writing this review is to help people make a decision on whether to buy this game with the most accurate information possible. There is far too much inaccurate information in the reviews that I've read and I feel this game is being misrepresented for better or worse. I played the original solo leveling arise game (the mobile gacha game) for 6 months, and I also now have 85 hours or more …

Very good successor to the mobile game. Does not have the Gacha elements, just straight combat and grinding as it should be. Solid good time.

The people complaining about having to grind for gear and levels clearly haven’t played games like RuneScape or Diablo II. This game sits very comfortably in that space, and if you enjoy that kind of progression, it’s easy to get hooked. I’ve invested a few hours and I’m really enjoying it. The core gameplay loop is satisfying, and I’m excited to see what future content brings. I’d recommend sticking with the base …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is one reason that i feel the need to leave a negative review... 'always online', while i am playing single there should never, ever, be a need to lock me to online. There is NO EXCUSE for the game to suddenly lock me out of action and let the enemy beat me to death because my internet had a little brainfart and it trapped me in a 'reconnect or quit' screen... I will remove this review if they fix this, but until then, it'll stay negative.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Non-live-service game testing the waters with mobile crossover FOMO. After may 6th, anyone who who picks up the game will forever see unobtainable content. Given it's only just a test and only the first time, given it's netmarble this is going to lead to more FOMO if it's a successful event. It won't just be cosmetics but eventually they will test with shadows and hunters too. The community made a suggestion about summer cosmetics and we got them as FOMO for playing the mobile gacha version.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently with 244.1 hours and haven't played this game in months. Due to the lack of content, communication and passion that I don't see with this team. I wouldn't recommend this game to no one, even if you are a S.L fan. You only get a small portion of the story, and a small roster of Hunters. Most hunters are useless and the equipment doesn't give any significant buff's to make you fell powerful. Late game A.I enemies health and defense are almost borderline immortal due to how weak Jin Woo…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is always online for a mostly single player game. hope you dont lose your internet or have any lag spikes, becuase that makes sense in a single player game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game. But developers are showing extreme greed by going back on their "no P2W" promisee by shoving in PAID dlc characters and weapons that are overpowered.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I agree with a lot of the already posted reviews. I do think there is hope ahead if the dev teams truly listen to us on what we require. what is needed & what is absolutely not okay. Now with that being said I will list the good, the bad & the greedy. First the recommendations : Some thing's I would love to see added 100% OFFLINE MODE seriously it is a single player game with options NOT a 24/7 online game if that is the case make a damn MMO. I would love to see a weapon lv upgrade system…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr - The game is a mobile port and it shows, it should be played as a telltale story as your choices with skills and stats have the same affect as those style games. They took the mobile app, ripped out all the microtransactions and alot of features and that's what we're playing. The story is alright, just watch/read the show.. You will NOT get "strong" you will just kill things a tiny bit faster.. just play the story and collect the hero's you want.. grinding for the highest tier loot is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the moment, I do not recommend the game. I could only recommend it to those who truly love the Solo Leveling universe and genuinely enjoy constant looting. In my case, I enjoy the universe far more than the loot— and that’s where many of the problems begin. ➤ Multiplayer: present, but not functional Yes, it has multiplayer, but it is not designed to be a multiplayer experience: No text chat No poses or interactions No basic social features Only emojis You can’t even add friends The name…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun gameplay but this horrable server connection is killing this game. I don´t understand why you need permanent connection to the internet if you play the game solo. Constant connection issurs and then a loading circle appears in the middle of the screen that darkens your screen this makes the game annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the game, but why the ♥♥♥♥ do you need a permanent internet connection for a game like this? There are constant connection drops, it keeps reconnecting, etc., even though you’re playing SOLO. The title already says it all: “Solo Leveling”, yet I still need a constant internet connection just to play solo. I’ll continue to play and enjoy it, but I’m still giving it a thumbs down. 👎
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As mentioned many times. Its called SOLO Leveling. I wanna play solo too! Until you guys let us have an offline mode, the negative review stays on. Also, the performance dips are insane. I managed to play this with a lot of tweaking and its clear you can fix the performance issues as the dips are constant on 30 to 45fps.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry about the grammar I really do want to recommend this game but not as it currently is. I understand that they’re working on allowing you to play single player without the need of internet that’s awesome really excited about that and the removal of the anti cheat. However I was under the impression that this would be the full solo leveling manhua story start to finish not half of the story. The mobile game isn’t quite caught up either And yet it is still farther than this game by one arc…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game seems to always be connected to the internet and sending telemetry, it also installs and runs easy anti-cheat even if you don't play to play online. The gameplay is nothing special. Just typical button mashing with activated special moves. I didn't get very far but with what I mentioned I was not impressed and decided it was time to get a refund before it was too late.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I JUST GOT A ANTI CHEAT VIOLATION FOR QUITTING THE GAME!!! I normally exit this POS game via steam, because it takes so fkn long. i let it run it's course, and it flags me for sone anitcheat bs. Dude, ♥♥♥♥ this beefed up Android game. Fix your garbage ass anticheat. Paid for deluxe edition. too bad we get the deluxe development crew. this is shameful work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let’s get straight to the point. I know there’s a lot of controversy and hate surrounding this game. A lot of that hate comes from the gacha-game community, who will tell you that the game isn’t worth buying because it’s “just a simple port” and that you can play it for free anyway… but honestly, most of those people only like gacha games, so I wouldn’t take their opinion too seriously. So here’s what I’ll tell you: this game is good. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely not bad either. Yes,…

Netmarble Neo did a complete bait-and-switch on the PC player base, and the cracks show the second you get past the early game.🚨 1. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When someone buys a game based off Solo Leveling, they expect a power fantasy of mowing down trash mobs interspaced with some challenging but rewarding gameplay. This game is an insult to that idea. Between the terrible drop rates, limited exp gain, horrific crafting and armor drop tables, and the overturned enemies, the early fantasy promise by the opening fades into frustration and exhaustion. Lets list the problems in detail. 1. The menus have multi-second long delays EVERYWHERE.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ONLINE ONLY. PERFORMANCE ISSUES Game play and graphics were ok, it felt alright but there were moments where all the sudden actions were delayed and then all the sudden happening at once. Not sure if that was a product of the server but either way that wasn't fun. I was pretty hyped for this but like others have mentioned, this single player game did not need to be locked into online play. To spell it out, it means eventually when the game dies, it will not be accessible. I've gone through…

Pros: This game has one of the coolest intro ever, which make you feel like peak. Also with improve visul by Unreal Engine for more realistic experience. Its a one time purchase game and the rest are free to play friendly can be achievable by grinding resources. Added exlusive features like Monarch Awakening and parry features for more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I almost never leave reviews but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game made me mad. For the price of 40€ I get a below average game. I love Solo Leveling, I love leveling overall, I love grinding and I still hate this game. Why? Invisible walls everywhere, no freedom, the starting tutorial sequence makes 0 sense and is just a big spoiler. Also why do you show me all of this and throw 300 things at once at me instead letting me start normally like in the manga. At least we get there after. But hey in the story…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From someone who played the gacha, and loves the Manhwa and anime, I can safely say this game is fun. It feels a bit like Monster Hunter progression with a easy character action game. The problem is the level design is so immeasurably horrible, and it is simply fighting the same enemies, in the same rooms, for the same objective, over, and over, and over again. You can do the story missions that take an abundance of time, and feel like you've been doing the same 3 things for 30 minutes with a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Offline Mode is being worked on. 1. Resolving Always-Online Connection Issues and improving Technical Stability We understand the frustration caused by the game’s current Always-Online requirement and are actively working on a solution to support a fully offline play mode. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game. A lot of people complain about gacha this, mobile game that. This is not Solo Leveling Arise. This is Solo Leveling Arise OVERDRIVE. It's a way more streamlined game, with more rpg elements, epic music and bonus fights. It cleaned up a lot better than the mobile version (although they still did their mobile fanbase dirty to be honest..). The demo version of this game, OVERDRIVE, left a lot to be desired. There was no tutorials, barebones system explanations, no epic cutscenes, no…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is decent and the upgrade, crafting, and follower systems all seem to be pretty deep with long progressions for you to farm out. However, the always online nature of this game is a killer. It outright sucks to progress only to have a token/server error drop any progress you have made since before the error occurred. Add in the kernel level anti cheat, that makes the game much slower to load and causes random stuttering, and I can't recommend this game until there is a full…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. Connection Issues Constantly While fighting a boss or trash mobs and have to disconnect and lose progress 2. You Cannot play offline.. (My internet is fine) * Will update review once this is fixed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy Solo leveling it's fun for about 20 hrs. The thing is there is soooo much grinding in this game. Legitimately you have to replay the same level 30-40 times to gather materials for crafting weapons or upgrades. The shear number of tedious redundant tasks just drag this game down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So here's what I've found playing it - I've been a manhwa reader and an anime fan, so I'd say get this game if you're a fan of the series and enjoy a bit of grinding that makes you feel like you're really “Solo Levelling”.. pretty immersive, xd. Story Some parts are skipped, but you’ll generally get the idea since the story is easy to follow. It’s literally a level-1 crook to level-100 mafia boss (Monarch) development arc. Combat Hack-and-slash, fast-paced. I only got to try the…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game costs around €40, but it feels more like a phone game than a real game. The co-op system is poorly done, the way you progress through the game is poorly done, and I could go on and on, but I'll simply say, don't buy it; it's not worth it. Also, I have a RTX 4060 and the game runs really bad for a phone game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR, I do not believe the game is worth $40, if you are a fan of Solo Leveling and can find it for around $20, I do recommend it. The story itself is absolutely awesome, I had a fantastic time, and then I finished the story. It stops right after you beat the Demon King, which honestly is just sad. They have assets from even beyond the anime, which does add to the variety, but at that point why not extend the story? Knowing how companies operate they will either release a PAID DLC or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I figured the point of spending forty bucks to buy this version of the game was so that we could avoid all the mobile game / gacha game bs. Yet here we are: they ran a limited time event that required you to play the mobile game in order to get the skins. We already paid for the game, we should have a way to earn any non-DLC content at any time. Not to mention it has a lot of the grindy mechanics from the FREE mobile game. Why are we paying forty bucks to have basically a crappier version (lack…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really looking forward to Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, but it ended up being a disappointment. I expected more mechanics and features inspired by the original story. In the manhwa, the main character’s growth feels overwhelming and powerful — you truly feel the rise in strength. In the game, that feeling is mostly missing. The biggest letdown is the shadow army system. In the source material, the protagonist dominates the battlefield and strategically commands his resurrected…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't leave reviews, but this needs a warning label. Several hours of my playtime that you see are there because of falling asleep with the game running. I have made it to the final chapter of the game, am level 48 with approx. 40~ hours actual play time. I have uninstalled because I will not waste more of my time than I have. Before You Buy: *Currently the Mission 7 repeatable story mission is bugged, as enemies are supposed to swarm at one point of it and just never spawn. This leaves you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont know why this game has so many positive reviews. Maps are linear and you cant access areas you can see, they are blocked for some reason. You cant jump climb or anything of the sort. Colecting ores is just hitting them. items are just glowing things on the ground.. , Fighting is just button mashing and repetitive, its so flashy that half the time you cant tell where your character is and whats hes doing. Especialy when you have npcs following you around fighting a boss is annoying.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is OK and just OK, the problem is that there is a lot of games that do a better job and respect your time. We live in a world where we have 1-2 hours to game when we can. Recomended at SALE price and if you are a big big fan of the anime. It feels like a cash grab, very expensive for what is offered. There is a METRIC TON to grind and it doesn't respect your time. PROS: - characters - good animations - OK Combat Cons: - repetitive environments - invisible walls - linear -…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Not worth the wait" I was really hoping for a true “Arise” experience. I’ve played the gacha game before, and honestly, this doesn’t feel very different. I was looking forward to finally summoning my own shadow army, but you still can’t Arise every enemy you defeat—that’s the experience I wanted. Instead, you can only summon based on what the story allows, which doesn’t give that real necromancer feeling of building your own army. The only real difference from the gacha version is that the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game feels like it has a good core but - It needs a lot of QOL changes - Lock on is trash - the combat feels fluid and good but the recovery after you get hit is way too long in a fast paced combat rpg like this and it just feels so bad when you get hit. - the menus are a lagfest - no ultrawide support in 2025 is a crime Overall the game is fun but It feels sluggy and unpolished
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thinking more on the Infinite Flow thing- I might have a more positive outlook on the genre if the ones I'd read weren't all on the narrative level of Solo Leveling. A collection of hype moments and game mechanics being used by a protag who refuses connections with other human beings.

The responsive and highly addictive combat system featuring slight refinements is the main draw of this "Overdrive" version. It is far from a mindless button-mashing experience; executing Sung Jinwoo’s attack combos is essential to overcoming the game's challenging story bosses. The cutscenes heavily on the OG manhwa material. It would have been better if Netmarble had taken…

All skins, hunters, and weapons are earnable in game. You pay once and you're done. My only complaint is that there are no specific numbers on how much damage skills do. It just says "this skill increases your damage" or "this ring slightly increases your attack". Ok but by how much?? What are the actual numbers? It makes it impossible to…
