It has went into full release with a ton of bugs and no polish. The game play is not intuitive at all, some of the help screenshots are only in chinese, the new annoying AI handhold thing has no sound and its text pops up and off very quickly so its of new use at all. After spending a lot of time in Soulmask with my partner, I can honestly say this game has amazing potential—but it also has some of the most frustrating design choices I’ve ever experienced in a survival game. From a singleplayer perspective (which is how I play) this has always been a cut above from a survival game standpoint. There are obvious similarities to Conan/Dune/etc., but it just feels so much more satisfying to base/tribe build here - and, like subnautica, it just ends up feeling better than its peers. The new DLC is enormous and absolutely rules so far. This is an easy recommend for me - more than worth its …

This game has a lot of potential, it does a lot of things well, but it is absolutely not worth it at the moment. Only buy this if it goes below 15$, anything above that is a scam. let's start with the good: The aesthetic and theme are truly new and refreshing. The maps look great and unique, and fun to run around in. The concept of Masks that transform you and do different things depending on what you need is fun. The fact that you can build a flying base and fly around is super fun. The…

Found out I wouldn't get enough tech points for unlocks in survival mode. Restarted game in tribal mode, but the game thinks I have completed the other tutorial so it wont trigger tribal mode. Spent an hour and end up needing to find and delete the games appdata to force it to let me start in tribal mode. Now I have tribal mode, but it wont display the objectives. How was all this missed in EA, as this is literally the first 5 minutes of game? This is too buggy for a 1.0 release. Edit: After…

Currently the best open-world survival sandbox game of it's type. Similar to Conan Exiles and Dune, mechanically speaking, but it just does literally everything better. Even the backend server settings are a thing of beauty allowing you to manage nearly every aspect of your gameplay on the fly without needing a restart of your instance or server. Soulmask even manages to solve that logistics and infrastructure problem that we typically run into for games like this allowing us to put our…

Developers seem to endorse letting their admins rule the official servers. At 100 upvotes to this review (if there is enough people that play this game or ever even see it lol) I will post hard evidence of these shady practices exposed and that are endorsed by the developers (I'm sure it will take a good while to reach 100 so the developers may never even need worry. In 2024, my primary focus for this game would have been mod development and expansion of features. Upon the release of the mod dev kit, the developers requested certain mods to be made for the game. I received the game for free for development purposes. At the time they made this request, I was alarmed that many of the requested mods included base-game behavior; admin menus, basic cosmetics, character re-customization, leveling limit expansion, weapon enchantments, tribesmen NPC logic…

Game is fine and all, get it if you want, but I want to address the DLC-at-launch situation. People bought this game in EA, expecting the developers would work on it in return. That is the most fundamental expectation you can have for an EA game, it's how EA works. Shortly after release the devs started talking about DLCs and I had a bad feeling. I expected a DLC to drop soon after release. Then the game released alongside a DLC at launch. I repeat: additional paid content for a game…

honestly really fun game if you want to host your own game/dedicated. but for 1.0 they got rid of OCE servers so you are stuck playing on 200+ ping against 10 ping players in PVP official. they also advertise build a city in the sky but recently limited ship building to really low piece counts so you cant even use the blueprints they also advertised lol if they fix these things ill change my review back to recomend but for now as an OCE PvP its a

An unfinished overly complicated collection of systems masquerading as a game. Also extremely grindy. Pros: + A lot of time and money spent on making a pretty world and it shows. + Peer hosted server with modifiable settings in the game UI! Yay! You can turn off durability for items. Thank God. + Never crashed in 120 hours of play Cons: - Performance isn't great. PVP servers are full of hackers that teleport to your bonfire and instantly destroy your base. They demand a tax to not hack your base, like some poser Chicago gangster wannabe, and the devs are totally on board with it for some reason.

NPC pathfinding algorithm makes me want to scream and tear out hairs from my ass. You CAN'T build a base in ANY WAY other than absolutely flat foundation with all workshops placed on the perimeter with 10 meters offset from edges of foundation. No walls. No furniture. Nothing. And even that will not be enough to prevent NPC from finding some wall and stare at it for the rest of their lives in attempt to go from wherever they stand to wherever they need to be. I'm going to be honest, the original game was very janky when I played it, but I grew to love it, and after I put nearly 600 hours into it and put it down I watched the devs over the last couple of years literally fix 75% or more of the things that made it clunky, or hard to enjoy, from gateways allowing gear and…

Excellent to be honest - It feels like a relative of Conan Exiles that has some influence from Rimworld. The open adventuring, base building, depth of content that builds up the depth of content you were invovled with previously is pretty mind boggling. The progression is like a stairway to heaven. In addition, it is fun to play, like Valheim and Conan in this "youre playing as the mask, is really fun to play through the progression of various different masks. Unprecedented levels of…

It's nice that private hosting and local only games are an option, and I like the general idea and vibe of the game. However. This should not have been a full release. I cannot say enough about how much I love this part. A lot of games like Ark are dead to me because they feel like another job where I’m forced to be online all the time. 2. Bought the game and instantly ran into the same terrible durability system as Dune: Awakening. Every repair permanently reduces max durability, so your gear is always on a countdown to becoming useless. This isn’t challenge, it’s just punishment. And we’ve already seen how badly this kind of system is received. Even Dune had to start adjusting it because it was too harsh. Meanwhile, games like Valheim and Enshrouded prove you don’t need this kind of mechanic at all to create tension or…

Until Soulmask I never understood how anyone with 200+ hours in a game could leave a negative review, but I get it now: The majority of Soulmask is played AFK. Robo insinuated this was the best way to get the Devs to fix the problems they have introduced chasing the PVP crowd. So here we are. Combat is janky due to built in delays for performing actions, something that was not present in EA but was changed because of PVP crowd complaints. Also the artificial long load screen before getting to the start menu that did not used to be there. The combat is stiff/clunky/somewhat unresponsive, the enemies are poorly designed, and the onboarding is about as bad as it gets. It looked like a serious contender to the big names of the pvpve survival genre with an impressive amount of new content (brand new map, new masks, cross map, airship battles etc...) by the industry's standards for a redefining 1.0 update. This is very much just another game that's full release is playing out much like a beta test. Combat and movement in general feels clunky and unrefined, its especially annoying that they chose to go with locked animations during combat, especially since the animations themselves are crappy. if you try to attack while moving you your character will freeze in place, so its almost impossible to attack something running from you unless you use a ranged weapon. Soulmask, A Game That Fights Its Own Potential I went into Soulmask genuinely excited. On paper, this game has some of the most interesting ideas in the survival genre. Identity swapping, tribe management, and systems that go beyond the usual formula. And to be fair, there is a good game here. You can feel it in moments. One of the clunkiest, most confusing starts to a survival game I've ever seen. Just constant waves of incoherent text and mechanics with UI that is sometimes completely nonsensical. Soulmask already feels like a better solo survival game than Conan Exiles did for me. Conan had the better grim atmosphere, but after around 14 hours it felt empty solo, clunky in combat, unclear in progression, and too dependent on mods/settings to become enjoyable. Soulmask, on the other hand, gives me clearer direction, better QoL, more interesting progression, and systems that connect together much faster. There is still a lot to learn, and I cannot judge the full game yet, but the early…

If you're looking for an MMO/Co-op experience similar to Conan, Ark, or Rust, this will probably deliver everything you're hoping for. My review is only based on the solo experience. Even though it is designed similarly to the aforementioned MMO/co-op games, Soulmask boasts having theoretically hyper-capable AI followers that can practically run your base for you without ever having to lift a finger yourself. While it's true that they *can* do just about any task players can do, they're not…

@Peter I'd have genuinely elaborated to you but since you're only willing to bring up one of the two issues, I have no reason to go any further. Not to mention, this forced skeleton skin on new player is dumb. I thought I was bugged. The game struggles a bit performance wise, but more importantly, the guidance is a mess. Also pretty much everyone is barefoot in this game so why do the footsteps sound like leather shoes?

Soulmask is one of those games I really wanted to like. The concept is cool, and the core gameplay has potential, but the durability system completely pushed me away. Every time I went out to explore, it felt like I had to bring my entire storage with me. Multiple weapons, multiple armor sets, just to survive one trip. I kept telling myself it would get better later on. It didn’t. Even expensive mid to late game gear breaks way too fast, and watching high-tier armor fall apart mid-run is just…

The game has great potential, but I think the biggest killer is the combat. I might not have much hours, but it's hard to play a game with terrible combat. Everything else is pretty cool though, so if you can get passed bad combat mechanics then its a solid game. If they fixed the combat, this game would have way more than 1k players, but they choose to focus on other things than fixing the thing that's actually hindering this game's success.

Not fun. Hard to get fast travel. The world feels empty and repetitive. Too many benches for crafting and menus.

My Avatar is a Skeleton, no matter what I did at Gamestart, it is a Skeleton now!

Recommended — but with a big asterisk. Soulmask is a genuinely ambitious and impressive survival game. It has a great atmosphere, deep systems, interesting tribe management, strong progression ideas, and some of the coolest concepts I have seen in the genre. The Shifting Sands expansion especially has a lot of ideas I really wanted to love, including the flying bases. The problem is that the game currently has two major flaws: quality of life and progression clarity. The QoL problems…

Buggy as hell, like it was all coded using AI. It can randomly turn off parts of your HUD (like your toolbar), disable the ability to pick up things, or make NPCs spaz out like they're stuck in a paint shaker. All of these require a complete game restart to fix. Tons of other issues with the UI, crafting, building, combat, balance, literally everything has problems. How did this game even hit 1.0 release like this? I'm guessing the studio ran out of money and had to cut and run. On that…

This review is for Soulmark 1.0 base game only, not the dlc This survival game is unique. deep and involving. I have now spent about 100 hours, exploring and figuring out the mechanics of managing my tribe. I have built several settlements with farmers, loggers, miners, gatherers, warriors and craftspeople. Many aspects of managing these settlements have been automated using tools and mechanisms that I have not seen in other games. I have tribespeople gathering resources, building weapons,…

Very Strange Game, I dont understand how so many people are happy with it. It has nowhere near the same level of polish of Valheim or any other builder/Survival out there. It feels like a late alpha Unreal Engine Game with zero polish. They just keep adding more content in the form of stock content from UE with minimal additional integration. Even the cut scenes are clearly just screen recordings of someone playing the game without UI, theres literally lag in the cut scenes....which I thought…

Edited for: “explicit” → “implicit.” Fair correction. I won't repeat the many positives in the feedbacks you find here, and although my critique only highlights a negative aspect, I still believe the game is good. It's not for me, I couldn't get past that, but I acknowledge it as a solid game. My main, and essentially only, issue with the game is: The RPG Agency Contract: In traditional Action-RPGs, survival games, and MMOs, the character creator is an *implicit* promise. You spend 30+…

Ive only played this game a little bit only 1800 hours so I think i can make an honest review at this point. Ive played PVP and PVE and honestly the the pvp isnt perfect but its still fun. the current whip meta is broken and needs a huge nerf but the devs have sorted a good chunk of issues since the start of EA. The PVE gameplay is engaging and theres plenty to do in both game types. Dungeons, Multi tier bosses, Hunting for stats and traits on tribesmen "unusual liking" lol, building bases (on…

This game is absolutely EPIC so far, it's in early access yes. I'm playing in a group of 5 ppl, and not a sinlge one of us have had any issues with the game that stands out so far, for an early access game this is a rare diamond in the rough. This game could definitely become legendary. It's insane how they have made the game fill less than 12 Gb, it tells me these devs really know what they are doing. If i didn't know what size this game was, and you asked me what i would guess it would fill…

Announcing DLC when the game is still in early access with unbalanced mechanics is hella sketchy. My "Cash Grab" senses are tingling.

300 hour update. Best survival world game I've played yet. Shifting Sands is a great addition. 5 stars. I went from 7 Days to Die, Enshrouded, Aska, Vahalla, and a few others to hear. This is a 'best of' those games so far, with a nice twist to make it own thing. Examples of what it (for me) corrects from the other listed games. ~ Fixes issues with storage management day 1 - not after you grind to a certain level. ~ You can pick and chose the parts you enjoy playing and if you don't like…
