A promising game shadowed by poor design choices I really wanted to like this game. It starts off strong with a cool concept, a blend of arena shooter and roguelike mechanics, and for the first hour or so, I was genuinely having fun. Unfortunately, once I hit the Sentinel and Victor boss fights, the game took a steep nosedive. The good: -Stylish maps and enemy designs Visually, the game has some flair. Enemy designs …

I checked out the demo for soulslinger in my neverending quest to find fulfilling western games and stumbled upon an excellently made little rougelike fps. The story feels a little silly (What good western doesn't?) but most of the voice acting is done well and it's snappy and emotional, so much that you do feel drawn in and curious. The guns are different enough from each other that your starting choice really does …

The game is really fun to play. I like the way the guns work, the unlimited ammo (with reload being emphasized). There are a couple big issues though. Sometimes it is very hard to see what is shooting at you because the range of the enemies is ridiculous and they kinda spam attacks depending on the enemy variant. Just a worse version of witchfire Meta progression seems very awkward and ineffective Firing is underwhelming Selection of weapons is incredibly sparse Game constantly offers a bunch of trash perks that don't fit into the build Enemies can spawn anywhere, making you spin like a yule log The ability to regenerate health is extremely limited Overall seems like a v0.2-v0.3 build of a game, not a full release

🎮 Gameplay 🔲 Excellent 🔲 Good ✅ Average 🔲 Poor 🔲 Staring at Walls is better Soulslinger mixes roguelike shooting with Souls-inspired structure, but the moment-to-moment gameplay doesn’t fully capitalize on its premise. Gunplay is serviceable and responsive, yet rarely evolves in meaningful ways. Progression between runs feels shallow: upgrades are incremental, perks lack impact, and builds don’t meaningfully diverge. Weapons do not really feel unique either. Encounters start out engaging…

Neat little game, marred by some pretty annoying design decisions. Gold doesn't need to despawn. It forces the player to play a certain way, which is never a good idea in my book, at least. Having mobs spawn behind you when you're backed into a corner of the map feels very cheap. Happens quite often. Final bosses come off as pretty lazy. Both Countess and Cursed King spam huge AoE's that hit for most of your HP bar.

Game runs well, if you ignore the occasional hiccups at the start of every level or when the enemy spawns extremely annoying. Some mobs are annoying, just teleport behind your back and the bosses are just bullet sponges with nothing really spectacular. And their pathing is just funny. The movement is pretty, mushy, you move quite slow for a rogue-like FPS, and dashing while jumping i dont recommend as sometimes you just dash one level above, or below or in another direction ( or maybe i was…

✅ Story is very decent ✅ Main protag is voiced by the same person who voiced Rufus Albarera from Trails series, it felt very surprising to me ✅ Cool roguelite shooter premise combining a western cowboy theme with dark fantasy ✅ Fast-paced gunplay with satisfying revolver and shotgun mechanics ✅ Weapon crafting and soul-harvesting upgrade system adds decent progression ✅ Aesthetic and visual design of the underworld environment look pretty solid ❌ Game has random crashes. I hate to leave a bad review on a game, and its rare that I ever do. Soulslinger isn't a particularly heinous game by any means; at first glance (assuming youre rocking an RTX 40XX) the game looks quite beautiful with cool environments and enemies and interesting particle effects. For the first 30 minutes or so of playing, nothing stood out as good or bad. I've put in a couple more hours and felt like I saw everything there is to see. Its quite a slog starting up again since there isnt much run…

Soulslinger: Envoy of Death - Official Early Access Update Trailer. According to the synopsis, this game is a "Wild West-themed roguelite FPS" where you play as a "gunslinger in limbo, involved in a gritty war against "The Cartel", a ruthless organization harvesting souls to break free of the shackles of the afterlife." So that sounds like a Weird West to me! Just from watching the video, I wasn't sure if it'd be a Weird West or not. Some of the architecture looks Western but other parts…

Overall? Its a decent game, its fun, chaotic, and challenging. The Issue? half the time I die it doesn't feel like it's my fault for chosing upgrades or paths wrong or anything like that, it feels like I die half the time because it's just the janky game. 1. later in the game in a hidden unlockable area there are flying enemies that dont take damage from shooting their wings, its only the center mass which is damn near impossible when trying to dodge everything else and the attack? a mass…

I was liking the game, but it crashes A LOT. Actually, it's not that it crashes frequently, is that it crashing is pretty much guaranteed the longer you play... On a roguelike, this means that, as you improve and reach fruther, you'll get a fatal error an lose all progress for the run. I would recommend it (at a sale) if it was playable, but it's not.

Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me! Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is a FPS Roguelite game. I love the gunplay like call of juarez gunslinger but with supernatural stuff, the graphics and visuals are great but has a downside with his bad performance where my RTX 4080 super go to 100% usage like if don't exist the vsync at all. The price I think is very good for what has to offer the game.

With heavy heart I need to give a negative review, as I really liked the game. Sure, it is kind of slow when it comes to progress: at least for me it wasn't easy to accumulate enough buffs to break trough the first "biome". Still it provides a kind of "git gud" experience that let develop a muscle memory and specific flow. Yet the game crashes during long sessions. My setup easily meets the recommended requirements and yet after getting to the second "biome" the game simply fails to perform.…

I can't see myself recommending this. There is just better stuff out there. If you want a modern feeling roguelike FPS there is deadlink, if you want a general fast paced roguelike FPS there is gunfire reborn, if you want a more tactical FPS roguelike, there is Void Bastards. I truly feel for the devs and respect their passion for this project, its just so sad that in the end this western concept just didn't work out.

I followed the game since it was first released into early access, and it made some good progress (it was incredibly janky at first). But the devs stopped way too early in their refinement, and I still find it unworthy of my time, with so many better alternatives around.

it pains me to give a bad review of this game because for the hour i played, i could feel that the devs actually tried to get something good out of Soulslinger. This is written in late november 2025. The game isnt bad, but its not great either. Ill start with the good things first: The lore and dialogues (from what i have see) are good, it make sense in the world its set in, and you want to know more. The weapons felt good to shoot with. This is by no means me trashtalking witchfire, as its still an early access game. But after playing both i have a strong bias towards SS:EOD. While the game catches on quick, it dies just as quick. It's all about rolling the runs again and again to find that 1 overwhelmingly OP skill combo that flat carries you through everything. Game also happens to go rabid sometimes and keeps spawning enemies for 10 minutes without rewards.

I feel like there is a lot to be desired with the story and unlocks. It IS FUN!, but the performance for this game needs a lot of work still and youve seen practically everything after one or 3 good runs. The design and vibe is immaculate though and almost gives me a dark souls rogue like- Id say get at your own risk. Dont get too excited, but dont think its actual trash.

Nice game, but I found a bug that hardlocked my playthrough. I finished playing during one of my runs, came back several hours later only to find out that no matter what portal I take I get infinite loading. I can't kill my character to go back to hub (although I've seen people complaining about the same bug in summer 2024 and even then they were asking to, at least, add an option to kill character to restart a run) and I can't move forward because I get infinite loading.

I honestly am on the fence here because it is not bad but at the same time, it is not good either. It just is not a satisfying rogue-lite to play and at hour ten, I'm not sure if I really want to play anymore. The maps are a pain with clipping everywhere, the guns are boring with cross-hairs that are the size of a bus, and yes, there are too many enemies. The Good: The gunplay is fun, in regards that it is the same feel as every other faster-paced fps. The western theme for the first section is (kinda) cool. The Bad: The npc's and story/dialogue are very boring, and the cut scenes are very drawn out. There are stuttering issues. This is a bad game, to be honest. My first impression was pretty positive: nice graphics, a simple story, and okay gameplay. But the more you play the game, the worse it gets. You begin to see all the unpolished moments, like the god-awful movement where you can get stuck in basically anything—from a small, unnoticeable rock to a tree with a gigantic collision box (and no, you can’t parry projectiles or attacks to stay safe; evasion is your single option). There is boring weapon 'variety'.…

Feels like the focus on this game are in the wrong areas. Needed less voice acting and pretty graphics and more focus on combat fluidity, game balance, and controller support (why can't I customize XY sensitivity separately). Your only defensive option is a very short dash that gets stuck on any pebble in the environment while also having like a 4sec cooldown. Why is it a problem? Lets see, hordes of enemies each with instant teleports to you that insta-hit you and can have additional…

Not a bad game. I enjoyed the 10 hrs I've spent with it so far. Managed to get to the end of currently available content. The gunplay is solid, but the game needs more variety in general - more weapons, more cards (especially active skills), and special items. 10 hrs was enough to see most of the content Soulslinger has to offer, which is a bit disappointing. For now, it looks promising, I'm waiting for the upcoming updates to see the conclusion of the story and I hope that it won't disappoint.

I put up with crashing for a bit, until I dropped down the graphics to the lowest and it stabilized. I put up with limited choices for a roguelike, making each run feel largely the same. I put up with the game forcing game overs at certain points for story reasons. I did that because I was at least somewhat interested in the story and aesthetics. Made for a fine(?) game to play late at night after work, without much thought. Then I finally got to fight the last boss. It's a flying enemy,…

An ambitious roguelite game, with a theme close to my heart (Wild West) and a pretty well-knit narrative with satisfying conclusion, yet less-than-stellar technical execution and ugly repetitive nature that begins to creep in at around 15th hour - that's Soulslinger, an ode to the original Painkiller (plot and gameplay-wise) made on a perceivably constrained budget. The gameplay loop is good, it rewards being accurate and not being hit. The variety of weapons that are available, despite what many people wrote in the reviews is(in my opinion) in the sweet spot for a game of this scope, there is something for every playstyle. The game lacks variety in terms of the powerups you can obtain in certain categories(poison and fire) but this is excusable because the game not that long. As much as I wanna recommend this game, I just can't do it after criticizing some other games for the exact same mistakes. The game play can be fun, like EXTREMELY FUN, but there are other elements that can genuinely piss you off big time: 1. The amount of useless cutscenes: There's no reason to get a cutscene almost every single time I get revived but at the same time I don't want to skip that thing, more than 70% of those cutscenes could have very well been dialogues where you'd be able to…

Rougelike area shooter. I didn't have any crashes during my playtime, but the gameplay is not that good. There are two types of maps: big ones where you can maneuver easily and boss battles, which are small. Why? Anyway, I have mixed feelings. The gameplay is not so satisfactory, the main character's voice acting is generic, it could be, but the game looks good, and the story snippets are somewhat interesting. So thumbs up, but it is forgettable.

I got this game as part of a bundle in 2024 and returned to it following the recent update. The devs seemed to really be trying to improve the game, but it's just not good enough. No other game in UE as ever given me a fatal error or the repeated juddering when enemies spawn. The latter issue kills any immersion stone dead. There are so many poor design choices involved here that I think it's beyond rescue - no other game starts with the 'you died' message when you log back in and generally…

Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is a stylish and ambitious roguelite FPS that blends supernatural Western aesthetics with fast, kinetic gunplay. Developed by Elder Games and published by Headup and Beep Japan, it casts players as a spectral gunslinger trapped between life and death, forced to navigate a shifting afterlife ruled by a ruthless organization known simply as the Cartel. Instead of portraying the afterlife as a place of quiet reflection, the game imagines it as a chaotic frontier where…

The game runs horribly, the game stutters constantly, I get stuck on things. I glitched into the terrain and couldn't get out. One time when I was playing. I got stuck on a rock and fell through the map and died because you take fall damage and respawn. I was low on health, so I had to start a run over, so it was very frustrating. Almost all the AI breaks in the game. Some random mobs T pose or do nothing but stand there and let you shoot them. Most of the bosses break when you get too close to…

Ehh, kinda generic rouge-like with not enough healing options for the amount of ranged ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And fall damage. They have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fall damage. When I am running around dodging twenty different bastards, the last thing I want to consider is falling off a ledge. Which ties into said lack of good healing abilities. And I know, "You just need to spend 30 hours on grinding up stats and then it'll be fine". But ♥♥♥♥ that.
