Messing with Kevin Knight, but naturally moving into position to catch Speedball. All while being a masterful heel. SO GOOD #AEWDynamite

neutral · AI labelView post →Games really barebones.. lacking serious. QOL fixes that should’ve been added before the console release. They’re basically just getting the October update out onto consoles. There’s no trading or training system, no replays, character customisation. Some basic things that all team sports games have. League mode resets all player stats during the next season which is silly. I’ve said it multiple times this game wasn’t ready for full release yet I know you guys were just trying to make a quick…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like it, (as someone who is still proud of beating Super Nashwan 360-0) I get it's in Early Access but it's already nothing like Speedball II. There's 2 camera modes, none are top down. The original worked fine with 8 directions combined with long or short button presses this uses 7 or 8 and felt pretty wooden all up. It has potential as a decent 'violent steel stadium ballsport' but it doesn't have the spirit or feel of Speedball. That might change, but I am dubious. Basically…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Instead of watching The Game Awards, you should consider watching AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming featuring Kyle Fletcher vs "Speedball" Mike Bailey and the finals of the Women's Tag Team Championship tournament
neutral · AI labelView post →Okay look, I'm getting old and a bit nostalgic, but, this new version is disappointing for me. It looks great and has some improvements, but, it's lost some of the world building stuff. For example I don't like the recruitment system. In the old game you collected coins {money} and purchased star players, you had to save up to afford them, it was great, you would feel like you had purchased a superstar. They were faster and stronger that other players. There was more "BUY IN" to the game-world…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably a lot of people are going to disagree with this review. I tried this game for free now and I won't even say it's bad, but for me it's just not fun. Why? As a kid, I used to play the orginal Speedball 2 up and down for hours. I loved it because of the simplicity involved. The top-down view was perfect and while you could play strategically, you could also just "brutally" button-mash yourself to victory. Meaning pressing joystick up and fire, just tackling any enemy in your way. That…

The #C64 version of Speedball is fast, fun and froody. A very catchy and known DW SID plays and the action is all go go GO! Decent 'football' game...

neutral · AI labelView post →Excellent core gameplay. Tons of potential. Rebellion dumped the game out without adding the features they promised with no explanation and have stated they are no longer working on the game in any capacity. It exists in a barebones state with broken online functionality. What a shame, they stopped just short of the finish line on something that could have been truly excellent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huge fan of Speedball 1 + 2, so I've been keeping an eye on this. I'd held off buying the game whilst it was so bare bones, but the addition of the league mode tempted me to check it out. I'm glad I did, and I'm happy to support the developer whilst they work on the title. I really hope they get enough support to make this project financially viable to keep them working on it long-term. The good: - It has the feel of Speedball, e.g. it's simple but updated enough to include a few extra…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dreamed Don Callis was making Speedball play a kind of Blockbusters game, where instead of letters the hexagons had a style of wrestler and he had to fight his way across the board
neutral · AI labelView post →fun game with minimum depth. season mode pains: once completing a season with a team you must start all the way over the next season/playthrough losing all the characters you recruited, you cant even play with the team you built in just play mode. i want to continue playing with the team i built! add more depth for a true career mode! this was scratching my deathrow itch until then. complete let down!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very game Mike Bailey tries to get into the ring and Lashley says “Fuck you Speedball”. #AEW
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm not going to recommend a publisher that uses a rushed "full release" with no features as a way of escaping responsibility for abandoning their product in early access. Until you prove you can do better, you don't get my money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Speedball as a kid, and liked it despite its flaws and limitations. I've been waiting decades for a new version that captured the joy of the original, and added some strategy and customization. Strangely, this iteration has added nothing of note, while faithfully recreated all of the flaws and limitations of the original: -no real team management -unsatisfying multi-season progression -no character customization -primative graphics -clunky movement, no precision, no physics -no depth…

neutral · AI labelView post →this remake of the classic Speedball was a welcome surprise. the new visuals look great, the mechanics feel expanded, and the moment to moment gameplay keeps the spirit of the original. that said, i can’t recommend it at a $30 price point right now. it ships without basic settings that should be standard, like simple graphics controls and accessibility options. the biggest miss is the lack of remappable controls (which they claim is not on their roadmap). can't recommend it at its current…

neutral · AI labelView post →TLDR: Pros: - Graphics are smooth - Simple game play - Arena hazards are fun Cons: - Game Looks more like a mobile game vs a 30 dollar PC game. - Very limited customization for custom team - Very limited team management options - Can't play League mode with custom team - League mode is shallow - Boring game play, offense and defense feels the same I like the idea of a future combat sport, and I was looking for some sort of Indie "Mario Strikers" or rocket league on steam. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jumped at this immediately as a huge fan of the old games back in the day. Not hugely into the Fortnite style artwork or the massive toning down of the violence, I'd have much prefered something grittier. it seems a fun enough diversion if perhaps a little simplistic as it stands. I'll be interested to play the career mode when the game is complete. ATM it's a slightly disappointed thumbs up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game as someone with 40 hours in SB2 here on Steam and countless hours in my youth (and on my retro game machine), and it is so close to being good. But they missed the mark on so many little things. First, why remove things that worked in the old game and that people enjoyed? - There is no league progression with your own team. You can only pick one of the preexisting teams and play as them. So you can start out as a four star team and just play. Yes, you…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is pretty fun, Played a few games in practice and bots to get a feel for it. Now taken it into online play and its great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot missing from this game that made the original legendary. Lack of player customisation, season progression, saving up to buy that star player and that birds eye view which gave the game such clarity to name but a few. But the game is good, its fun and its speedball. It scratches that itch and I hope they add some of these features in their next update.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shows promise but feels like its going to underwhelm. Feels thin. The game should aim to be like the transition that occurred on the Amiga between Speed ball and Speed ball 2 BD, however it just feels like a 3d Speed ball 2; we have seen this before. Try harder.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thinking about wrestling weekend and I think my biggest "I was not familiar with your game" reaction was Speedball Mike Bailey, what a great performer
neutral · AI labelView post →I always can tell a game has made an impact on me when I own multiple copies of it on different platforms. In some cases, on the same platform (Diablo 2, Planescape: Torment, Speedball 2, X-com). Last one to do this was Elden Ring (pc/ps5) - until today. Welcome, Baldur’s Gate 3.
positive · AI labelView post →Speedball (1989) This futuristic sports game was a big hit on the Amiga and Atari ST in 1988, and was promptly ported to other platforms, such as the Commodore 64. While this version might not be quite as good as the 16-bit original, it has all the same features and is great fun. 1/3
neutral · AI labelView post →I want to give a shoutout to Rebellion for diversifying their modern output as of late. Atomfall was really excellent as a new IP western RPG, they released a sports game earlier this year called Speedball, and next year they have a sci-fi narrative game called Alien Deathstorm.
neutral · AI labelView post →Speedball is back! Good Game. But needs more dark grittyness so as the original game. Also in the menus, looks to generic. Can't wait for full release.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lets be honest we all long for a SB2 remake, for me its an all time classic Amiga game so how does this stack up. This game is looking to bring the SB2 into the 21st Century and its not a bad attempt. The game play although has more buttons it is simple just like the original, the graphics are modern which some people will not like, as we all still love 12bit but i think the developers have done a good job. Their is a nice feel when playing the game and and although modern you still get the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah man, before there was Rocket League, there was Speedball. This game is getting better with every couple updates. Hoping this game becomes something so I can put time in. Already enjoy the directions, field variety and scoring goals. Hitting is also decent but lacks the feel of impact at the moment. Wishing success to the development cycle.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you for remaking classic. I hope next you can make a sequel of the original Z by Bitmap Brothers in Unreal Engine! That would be a real hit! Good luck with the developments!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a lot of fun already and I'm glad the singleplayer portion is there. Very curious to see the singleplayer career/season mode once that becomes available. I just hope the final game won't need an internet connection to work (or maybe I just encountered an error there).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving this game, absolutely Speedball Brutal Deluxe, superb
positive · AI labelView post →the core game is good, its great fun against a friend. theres an initial learning curve but nothing steep, its a sports game after all. everything outside of the core game is lacking some polish though. i hope they continue to work on this post release. but as it stands i can recommend getting this game if you have someone to play with, that is the main reason to play any of the Speedball games, to beat your friends. playing the CPU ranges from fun to tedious but that all comes secondary to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Disappointing evolution of a classic As someone who still proudly remembers clearing the screen and dominating the classic era, I really wanted to love this. I know it’s in Early Access, but right now, it completely misses the mark of what made Speedball II a masterpiece. First, the camera angles are a mess. There are only two modes, and neither gives you that crucial, classic top-down view that made the original so tactical. The gameplay shift also feels like a massive step backward. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good concept but bad in practice. The complete lack of care go into this is obvious. I would happily play this game with a bit more time spent on being able to make custom characters, teams, ability's, etc. Online mode is horribly basic with no joy. All in all, a disappointing waste of an hour.
