What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 43 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (64 of 89 positive).
Players praise the game's Contra-inspired run-and-gun gameplay and WayForward's signature charm. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the PC port for lacking options and being locked at 30 or 60 FPS. [4][5][6] Some players find the game too difficult, with cheap level design and few checkpoints. [7][8][9]

A new run 'n gun from the makers of Contra 4? This has gotta be awesome, right? Not quite. First off, there are no resolution options. For me, at least, the game launches at 720p and stays there. It's also locked at 60 fps. There are actually no graphics options whatsoever that I could see. It's pretty jarring to see this nowadays. As far as the game goes, it's not a good run 'n gun. The weapons are really meh and …

Got this in a fanatical bundle. Game is very hard and could really use checkpoints. Its annoying dying at one park and needing to repeat the previous 5 or 10 minutes. Also it is very annoying not having a health bar for the bosses to see how close you are to killing them.

If you want Contra mixed with saturday morning cartoons then look no further! Spidersaurs is going to scratch that itch. Even if you are looking for an incredible run 'n gun game, Spidersaurs is a great addition. Contra 4 was released on the Nintendo DS in 2007. The foundation that game set is seen here and a lot of the mechanics seen there are transferred and build upon in Spidersaurs. The added content makes …

No exit option, no way to adjust resolution, music and SFX, locked at 30FPS, amateurish but not in a funny way voice acting (maybe except for the 2 playable characters). Really lazy port. Was it worth 2$? YES. But if buying Conta-like games from the bargain bin, I'd buy Blazing Chrome again I guess. Not a bad game but insulting port that I can't recommend to buy on full price.

A charming blend of Contra and Saturday-morning-cartoon tropes made by the developer of the amazing Contra 4 (NDS, 2007). It's not as good as this or the classic Contra games, but a well-made and fun substitute. It offers a story mode with a save function and three difficulty settings as well as two unlockable modes (arcade and speedrun) that you have to beat in one sitting. Please more short and dense arcade-style …
Summarised from 34 of the 56 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
63% of the 43 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Spidersaurs. The complaint that keeps coming up: pC port lacks resolution and graphics options, locked at low FPS. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

55 of 55 · most liked firstWhaaat the heck has happened with WayForward? The Shantae games are my favorite from WayForward games and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was what I consider peak WayForward. It was fun with great graphics, gameplay and story. When I think of WayForward, I think of Shantae. So it's obvious that they've spent a lot of time, money and effort into making Half-Genie Hero. But... ever since that highly successful game, it seems like they are like a lost puppy that can't find its home. In other words, they…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great idea, great style, excellent opening tune... Absolutely atrocious game play. So incredibly clunky, aiming is too rigid and enemies are always in "dead zones". Playing this is 2 player mode is exponentially more difficult as the camera following causes instant loss of health or even loss of life if both players aren't completely in sync with their movements. Adding more "aiming angles" and an auto camera zoom during the vertical platform sections would help make significant improvements…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3.5/10 its ok. give me more checkpoints or make the game a bit easier. feels like im playing a two player game alone most of the time. assume more fun if playing local co-op + art + voice acting + local co-op - only one check point per level. if you die at boss its back to that middle level check point - cant kite - no double jump + later unlock a double jump - no dash - no shield all you get is a single jump to dodge things

neutral · AI labelView post →So can we take a moment to appreciate how utterly awesome Victoria from Spidersaurs is? Really wish that game landed better than it did (the temporary Apple Arcade exclusivity didn't help) cause she is so damn cool.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Contra-lite? Introduction Spidersaurs is a run & gun in the vein of Contra. The similarities are so apparent that you could say it's Wayforward's own Contra game but without the Contra license. Originally released for Apple Arcade, Wayforward have decided to bring Spidersaurs to PC and consoles. Gameplay There are multiple abilities that you have in Spidersaurs that are carried over from Contra but you cannot go prone here. Instead you are able to crouch and shoot. Some of your abilities…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was highly anticipating this one to come to other platforms when it was revealed, happy to have it finally. Still pretty early on in play time but it maintains the good ol Wayforward charm and humor in the writing and character designs (shoutouts to Victoria and Sorez). as far as the genre goes, my experience has only been with the 2 Gunstar Heroes games really, and even then very recently, but I have as much fun with this one. Switching between weapons is smooth and its fun to pick which ones…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First they put snakes on a plane, then they put sharks in a tornado, and now with advances in 90's cartoon technology they've put spiders into dinosaurs or is it the other way around? I think Spidersaurs is a good yet flawed game. I don't think it's the next great Run N gun game, or that it elevates the genre but It does have a nice presentation and solid gameplay with a lot of reply value for such a short game. I once rented out a saxophone during high school band. The Sax had many issues…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a terrible, short and boring game with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ controls, even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitboxes, and just constantly moving screens that make you jump or fall into nothingness, sometimes you even take 2, 3 hits or just die outright, because you respawn over a pit, unavoidable damage deluxe, and bosses that make sponges look like dry steppes. Bah. There is nothing here, move along, play Metal Slug. Which is too bad, because the creature design, the general art style, even the cringy writing and characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty neat run 'n gun! Really short though. Okay so, I'm about as big of a WayForward fan as one could be. I love most of their repertoire, I think they make super neat games. Especially love the Shantae series, that's one of my favorite indie franchises ever, in general. Spidersaurs is weird 'cause it just kind of... Came and went with little fanfare? I didn't even know it existed until a good bit after its release, and apparently even PEOPLE WHO WERE FOLLOWING IT were barely aware it came…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering this was an Apple Arcade exclusive originally, I'm wondering if any issues I found with the gameplay come from its origins? Not the best, not the worst, not as good as their Contra games. It still has the Wayforward charm and style and it's probably even more fun with a friend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great style, great animation, great music and very hard for no reason. It's not fun to play same level again and again to beat the boss.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple and good fun. Movin and shootin all the bugsaurs. I don't have many other thoughts outside of that since I can feel the inspirations right out the gate. I would recommend to anyone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To start with I would say bad stage design, bad enemy type and system where you get hit from like 8 sides which is pretty hard to play with cause its not a simple platformer game. You have to aim run and gun which is pretty impossible while dodging enemies from eight directions. Also whats up with that re-spawn system? You die in midair from falling down and again spawn at midair tf!? I would like to enjoy leveling up my character while beating each lvl and then move to the next stage but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cartoony Platformer. Nice intro song and voices for the characters About 1.2 hours to beat for the first time. Each level is pretty short 5 to 9 mins
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a Contra 4 clone that does little more than show how far WayForward has fallen since making that game. With mechanics lifted straight from Contra 4, there is a solid foundation here. Unfortunately the level design is often cheap and the game is rarely memorable. This is better than some of WayForward's other recent games, but that is not saying much. For 5 dollars or less you can do worse, otherwise I would stay away. This PC port is also terrible with zero options as other reviewers…

The game play is so boring, the weapons are trash. no dodge just wall/ceiling hang goofy hit boxes. If i was a child that never played a side scrolling shooter before i might have liked it. Since I've played a lot of them. This is trash. Glad i bought it on sale. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OK, I have played this game not even for a hour but there are two things that have already pissed me of: HOW CAN YOU SCREW UP CONTROLS SO BAD and resolution. Really. These are the worst controls I have seen for a while. Good luck playing on 60% keyboard, not that a full-sized one would help (maybe it is better with game-pad but it is nowhere mentioned requirement). Graphics and artstyle are what you expect from the developer, pity that it is all ruined by poor resolution, in some parts the game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spidersaurs is a fast, colorful run-and-gun shooter that combines old-school arcade action with the exaggerated personality of a Saturday morning cartoon. Developed and published by WayForward, it revolves around a wonderfully ridiculous disaster involving genetically engineered dinosaur-spider hybrids created by InGest Corp as an answer to world hunger. Predictably, the experiment goes catastrophically wrong, leaving former taste-testers Adrian and Victoria to clean up the resulting mess. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is what happens when you get a title with cute visuals, but is hard as nails - some people are gonna be unhappy. Four years on, you should be looking at this on discount, which it's easy to recommend it at. Would I have rushed to spend the full asking price... well no, I didn't. But it's made in a great Saturday morning cartoon style, complete with intro and song. The dialogue is ironic and funny and the gameplay challenging enough on Normal - I say that as one who usually opts for Hard…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I discovered this game AFTER playing Wayforward's other recent Run & Gun game: Contra Operation Galuga. I liked both of these games, but you can tell Wayforward made this game BEFORE they made Contra Operation Galuga. Very similar mechanics and gameplay. Spidersaurs has more annoying enemy placement and poor bullet drops locations, but this was fixed in Contra Operation Galuga. I think they used this game as a modern trial on how to make a modern day Run & Gun game, with still having much of…

positive · AI labelView post →A fun run'n'gun! Played it entirely on Steam Deck and it ran flawlessly. (+) Great presentation. Not only the graphics but the overall presentation is really nice. (+) Standard and tight controls that work well for the game. (+) it's a run n gun and it's good. That's rare these days (+) Not very hard but also not a cake walk. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to say this but this game should have been an animated series, the 'cutscenes' are just the sprites on idle and always on the same background, the whole action comes with the dialogue and dialogue portraits, and like 90% of the backgrounds on the game look drab wich is weird because the character and monster design is on point wich is why I actually would have prefer this to be a cartoon show, I feel these great designs weren't exploited at all. (I mean come on, not even statics CGs? I'm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Art is good, story is inoffensive, however gameplaywise i would rather play other run'n'guns cause this one just felt irritating at times.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic 2d Shooter in the spirit of Contra. A little too talky at the beginning but a short game that doesn't overstay its welcome. At the right price this is a good one to pick up if you like shooting and running to the right. Check it out!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jesus, only 13% of Spidersaurs players have even beaten the game? A five-level run-and-gun? Man, this game should have been a LOT more than what it was. So much visual style for a game so... rote and uninspired, gameplay-wise.

The controls are spot on, it has good bosses, the music rocks, and it has really nice graphics, even if the Cartoon Network style isn't for me. It's a lot like Contra 3, Contra 4, and Hard Corps Uprising, if you've ever played those. I thought some of the guns were a bit slow, but they all have their uses. There's also strategy to keeping the guns you like on you, just like in every Contra game. There's a good challenge on Normal and Hard…
