Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II is a suspense-horror game set at a prestigious academy. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge fan of previous Spirit Hunter Death Mark and NG, I was looking forward to this for a very long time, and somehow still was NOT disappointed. They knew not to change a winning formula, only to expand on it. As such, the story structure is very similar, old characters of Death Mark 1 return or are at least mentioned (Sorry, NG fans - and that includes me). The exploration is now more engaging in a Clock Tower like 2D sidescrolling way, I guess some may like it, others not.. character…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Redundant and Time Wasting Mechanics In the first game and NG you really had to pay attention to what order you explored the rooms, as you were rewarded or punished for searching every room and interacting with most objects. This game outright tells you where to go next in bold colored text, while also littering the map with empty locations to explore and needless items to click on that point out the obvious, like that chairs in the room are stacked. In a game where you are suppose to search…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Haunted High School Reunion Disclaimer: I played this game on a different account, so my Steam playtime is as accurate as a ghost's promise. Setting and Story Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II is like that awkward high school reunion where you see everyone’s aged a bit, but the drama is still as thick as the fog rolling in from the nearby graveyard. Set between the chilling events of Death Mark and the mind-bending nightmare of NG, this installment tries to recapture the magic of its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, it's a great addition to the Spirit Hunter lineup. Nice CGs, music and roughly the same style of encounters. The PC controls are silly, but they can be rebound easily enough. The side-scrolling mechanic isn't bad, though I find myself preferring the style of the prior games. I can't speak for the rest of the game but the first chapter is pretty gripping to me and I am please :3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More forgiving, less tense I'm mostly writing this review for people who played the previous two Spirit Hunter games, but newcomers might find this review useful, too. To give a quick recap, the previous games were pretty unforgiving. Make a wrong choice when facing a Spirit, and there's a good chance that it's an instant death. Also, you're on a timer, which kind of doubled as a health bar, so you better choose fast. Some choices require a bit of thought, and you might feel some self-doubt…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big and long-time fan of the Spirit Hunter series, I was really happy with this addition overall, but I do have some complaints. I will now break down my thoughts into different categories in my review which will contain a lot of comparisons with the previous games in this series (Death Mark 1 and NG). And as this is my first-ever review I hope this is helpful to both old and new fans who are considering this game! Gameplay I personally really liked the VN, point-and-click format in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's just get this out of the way right off the bat: I really liked this game. That said, I had a lot of problems with it. It felt much more like DLC for the original than its own game deserving $50. The story is fun, the art is beautiful, and I enjoyed most of the puzzles, but there's just not that much going on. Much of the exploration is very repetitive, and feels like padding, especially considering the only proper location to explore is the school. I kept expecting to be lead somewhere…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm giving this a thumbs up, since I overall had an enjoyable time with the game, but my actual feelings on it are a bit mixed. Even though Death Mark II does improve on some aspects of Death Mark I, such as giving more of an impression of the physical space the characters are traversing, using already built investment for bigger emotional stakes and having some CGs involving female characters that are actually scary (you know, like a horror game might do) rather than just blatant fanservice, I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed playing the game, but it did have its some issues. While there's a lot to delve into about this game in comparison to its prequel, I'll keep it short. Major Drawbacks compared to the prequel: 1.The mystery element was somewhat disappointing – I practically figured out the culprits early on, which weakened the overall plot. The prequel's mystery element, in my opinion, was much more engaging. 2.The gameplay got a bit messy at times, and the encounters with spirits lacked the…

neutral · AI labelView post →TL;DR: Not as good as the first Death Mark, but better than NG, get it if you liked either game. This game is really good, I love that we went back to our protagonist from Death Mark 1, it felt like "coming home" in a sense. I also really like the shift to a side scrolling perspective, on the flip side, I also think it's the culprit for my biggest criticism of this game... PROS: - I think the story is very well written, I don't think it's better written than 1 or NG overall, but I…

positive · AI labelView post →EDIT: After beating the game, and taking my sweet time to do it (I only play it at night pacing myself to no more than 1 chapter a night), I'd like to say that even though I still hold everything I wrote to be true, the story really starts to shines as it progresses to the point you'll have a great time in spite of all the bad decisions they incorporated into the gameplay. I can recommend it without batting an eye, but I hope they pull back a lot of the new things in the next installment.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its aight but somehow i cant help but feel like this game attempted more , while acomplishing less then previos entries side scrolling section very quickly became an afterthough , peaking in chapter 2 . i feel like thay wanted to do more with map exploration via the side scrolling , and yet somehow the exploration was way better in previos chapters wwith simply chosing a direction also this might be my personal bias but i think the ghosts in earlier games were better.... still tho , good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly worth it if you're a series fan and it's on sale/discount. That said, this game is visibly weaker than the first 2 that came before it. There's filler spirits to pad out the story and you're stuck in one location vs previous games. Side note: Instead of announcing a 4th game, the devs are remaking the first game which is concerning.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hope they make another Spirit Hunter game where Akira and Yashiki meet. They would be cool, I think. #DeathMark #SpiritHunter #NG
neutral · AI labelView post →Cool game :) Even if it's kinda downgrade from the first game but it was cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Departed are just misunderstood yandere waifu. joke aside if you like prequel you will like this one, same horror VN with a bit of fan service story this time is a bit cliche tho. main antagonist,The Departed, Can be figured out who is she from a mile away if you pay attention. well... she didn't even try to hide and act like schoolgirl dropping hints for her crush, notice me my beloved. I still perfer 1st person view of DM1 and NG than 2d sidescrolling tho, but its fine
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spirit Hunter: Death Mark 2 is fun, even if some things are changed. The side-scrawling element is a great addition, but overall the game has lost some of its difficulty. Fighting the ghosts feels much easier than in the first or second game. The story, on the other hand, is once again well done, with great and sometimes somewhat disturbing stories and fates. However, every now and then we return to places we have already visited, which can be a little monotonous.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm getting back into gaming lately but tbh it's mostly Horror VNs and adventure games. Heard there is a new one from the Spirit Hunter series, so that's hype. The first two were niiiiice J-Horror
positive · AI labelView post →I need more people to know Death Mark, Spirit Hunter NG, and Paranormasight. Please, may the vtubers and png-tubers hear my plead, look up the games, and follow me I wanna show my oc for all 3 more but only 1 moot knows a game...
neutral · AI labelView post →Just like the previous games i find the story to be super interesting, and surprisingly i like the fact that they were trying something new with this game! It brings something new to the table, even if i preferred the visual novel aspect of the previous games. One thing I can't look past tho is the spirit designs. The monster designs from previous games were so unique and stuck with you, but I won't lie to you the designs from this game are kinda goofy. There isn't the same shock factor from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A 3rd game in a series, still fun. The new side-scroller like exploration mechanic doesn't add much & a waste of resources better used elsewhere, still, the core atmosphere, story & overall gameplay are there.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My copy of the third Death Mark/Spirit Hunter game came the other day! I'm so excited to play!
neutral · AI labelView post →I was waiting for Death Mark II release and I'm glad that I'm here to experience it now! Only finished Chapter 1 for now and it's fun to see side-scrolling investigation (I hope I won't have to run and hide from dangers in Clock Tower-style haha), 10 running old men grunts out of 10. Previous games pixel hunting somehow gave more spooks and immersion tho, but I won't complain much about it, it's nice to have fresh mechanics. Also glad to see that now stats and items can actually have weight in…

It's a fantastic Visual Horror Novel Series with amazing art and exploration mechanics [Death Mark 1 moves like a dungeon crawler!!] It's a huge inspo for The kind Blacksmith, plz go look at the games....
positive · AI labelView post →1. May as well start with the one I yap about any chance I get- Spirit Hunter: Death Mark A horror visual novel/puzzle game with CRAZY good monster designs (Fun Fact: The Artist/Character Designer also did the monster designs in Silent Hill F as well!!)
positive · AI labelView post →There are not enough horror games like this. I love the art, and the Twilight Syndrome inspired side-scrolling, and everything. This is a great example on how to take the Visual Novel and turn it into a Video Game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This series always delivers in the cute ghosts, cozy scooby doo vibes and really really beautiful art department. PS: Your personal taste for cute and cozy may differ from mine.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, I'm Spirit hunter fan ever since DM1 so of course I'm always eager to any sequel, prequel of this series. Although, I love DM1 and NG better, DM 2 is quite ok, around 7,5/10. I recommend it~
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wait for a fix. I frequently get stuck in a Loading Screen (or when exiting first-person view) and the only thing I could do at that point is to alt + tab and close the game, causing me to lose progress (you can only save at a certain location).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, and the series, but I get the feeling this'll be the last one. But I feel like it's missing something. The story here is great, some magnificent psychological build up (the protagonist this time has character!) and it has some real great character moments. However, because of those character moments, a lot of other characters get sidelined, and the same applies to places in the school. If you think that setting looked nice, you'll never see it again. except for old school…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays like DM1 but with some of the padding cut out since its faster to move around as a side scroller than have to wait for the transitions as you move from one box to another in first person. Less spirits since overall focus is on titular antagonist, but what they do have is not bad. Doesn't reinvent the wheel, but the spirit design and story holds up to that of the past. Overall was a decent bit easier than the previous games, and quite a bit shorter too. You could probably wait for a sale,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this series. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled across it and I'm definitely going to be helping Kickstart any future games. Compared to the first game and NG, this feels like a more forgiving entry, as a lot of encounters feel less difficult and you have a way bigger margin of error making it pretty feasible to trial and error your way through at times. The mystery and tension didn't feel as high as the first game either, but from a mechanics standpoint, I enjoyed finding the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoying it thus far! Liked the original, loved NG (bloodmetry and the trio goated), have high hopes for the rest of this one. As always great character portraits, updated tracks from the first game sound great, the mystery is in full swing and I'm gripped! Fast travel is a nice quality of life update and I felt like the first boss fight (what I'm up to) wasn't too obtuse which was a little frustrating in the first game. Not a big fan of the sidescrolling exploration/2D animation. I…

positive · AI labelView post →One bundle says its games cost "as much as $149" at full price. Top tier: $13. That only adds up list prices. Better: tier price ÷ games you'd play. neutral · AI labelView post →2025 Completions: 5. Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II 🏆 (Steam / 25hrs) Not a bad game, but the weakest of the series with all the best bits taken out. Too timid and instructive for horror, and the plot wasn't overly interesting. I did enjoy seeing the cast from the first game! 👻
negative · AI labelView post →Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II The twists in this game kept me second guessing myself every time and I loved it. Figuring out how to save the spirits this time felt more clear, and I love the addition of the 2D side-scrolling sections. And I go to see most of my weird little found family again🥹
positive · AI labelView post →get it on sale, play the other one first (you can skip NG its kinda mid imo) It takes a long time to build up, with quite a lot of things happening around the main plot of evil thing stalking you. True Ending is the most worth it. Do not fret about not getting the correct ending due to your choices as this game respects your time with subsequent replays being very easy to complete. This means there are little full branching stories like other VNs though but thats fine imo. NOT ANOTHER DOLL NO…
