In Short: Both the 2002 Original and 2020 Remake are good, if flawed games. But between the two, I would personally recommend playing the Original Version, if you have the option to. With that being said, I don't hate Rehydrated as much as I remembered, and do think it can work as a substitute. I enjoyed the game a lot, but it should not be $30. It is worth getting at 50% or 75% off if you enjoyed SpongeBob and/or played the original and want to play a very clean updated version. I did have some minor bugs but nothing major that I couldn't fix by reloading/restarting.

One of my favorite classics that I played for hundreds of hours as a kid, Rehydrated is an almost perfect remake of the OG. I would be interested in seeing a remaster of the movie game as well, but chances are I'll be dipping my toes into the newer Spongebob games by this developer.
