What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (1,499 of 3,529 positive).
Players widely agree the game was abandoned shortly after release, with no updates or bug fixes. [1][2][3][4] Many reviewers say it is a simplified, paid version of Stellaris with a Star Trek skin, inferior to free mods. [1][5][6][7] Some players still recommend it on deep discount for Star Trek fans seeking a casual 4X experience. [8][9][10][11]

Stop it. What you need to know is very simple. NO ONE BOUGHT (or should have bought) THIS GAME TO PLAY STELLARIS! Stellaris is unnecessarily overly complicated AND if they want to play Star Trek in that format, THERE IS A STELLARIS MOD FOR STAR TREK (and it existed before this game came out). I do agree that if you are going to buy this game, you should get it on sale. Make no mistake—there are community mods, but …

I will start this off by saying I had fairly low expectations coming in, due mostly to the "mostly negative" score and all of the hate in the comments. After playing for several hours though, im not really sure where all of the hate is coming from. The game is (quite obviously) built on a modified version of Stellaris, where they tweaked or omitted things that just blatantly didnt fit with the Star Trek lore, and …

Possibly the most pointless game ever given the green light and released. It's basically a paid for Star Trek total conversion for Stellaris. Problem is, there are already two full, free Star Trek total conversions for Stellaris. Both of which are bigger, more detailed and generally make this look like a lazy knock-off. This is the very good reason it was abandoned almost immediately, it's not a bad game, it just …

Absolute garbage. Do not under any circumstance buy this game. It has been very abandoned, and frankly those of us who bought it should all get our money back, or a Steam credit. Steam should delist this game due to it being unfinished and unsupported. DO NOT BUY, even on a deep sale. You've been warned.

Star Trek: Infinite sits at 31% positive across 185 opinionated reactions from 4 sources. Fresh or rotten — where do you land?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Star Trek: Infinite received “mixed or average reviews” according to aggregator Metacritic. On Steam, it received mixed reviews. IGN’s Will Borger gave it 5/10, or “mediocre.” Most complaints focused on the presence of bugs and glitches, some of which prevented the game from functioning properly. It was favorably received in preliminary reviews up to September 2023. Mick Fraser called it "huge, complex, and a Trekkie's dream". IGN's Will Borger described a preliminary build as doing a good job of bringing Star Trek into 4X gaming as something akin to "Star Trek-themed spreadsheets", but also writing that the game "can sometimes feel overwhelming". At PC Gamer, Russell Adderson called it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For one, this game has sadly been abandoned as the developer was laid off. Secondly, as much as I REALLY wanted this game to be good as a Star Trek fan, because we really don't have many Trek games out there, Stellaris with mods like Star Trek New Horizons simply does a better job at making a Star Trek RTS game, and has more options. If you want a Trek RTS game, get Stellaris and download the Star Trek New Horizons mod for it.

As someone with hundreds of hours in Stellaris and a deep love of Star Trek I bought in thinking that this was going to be a well supported game with lots of promise. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to love Star Trek: Infinite, but I cannot recommend it. It feels unfinished, unbalanced, and empty. The Borg are a weak endgame threat, many story events feel forced, the strategy has little depth, and the other major powers are too passive. There are also many bugs, and support ended very quickly. This game had potential, but it never came together. For a better experience, play Stellaris with Star Trek mod.
