Players find Staxel charming and fun, especially on sale. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the game was abandoned by developers and lacks updates. [4][5][6] Some players consider it unfinished, buggy, and lacking direction. [7][8][9]

I loved this game. It was fun and had so much potential. But, the dev just decided to call it "done" and abandoned it. Make no mistake, this is not a finished game. Calling it done was just a "get out of early access" ass pull. Very buggy, empty areas, quests that either cannot be started, completed, or just dead end. Mechanics that look like there should be something, but isn't. No stamina, HP, or even a use for …

Unfortunately this game hasn't been updated since 2021. This game had so much potential but there was no tutorial so I walked around for hours having no idea what the heck I was supposed to do. From other reviews it looks like its been abandoned which is sad because the game has so much potential. It's very cozy and reminds me of Stardew Valley meets Minecraft. Shame it hasn't got any updates.

i got staxel for like $5 on sale, and i love it so much it's not even funny. there's a ton of problems with it: it's buggy, unfinished, and it's not very ergonomic. it had a lot of potential that will never be realized, but its charm is all right there. i love it so much that im going to write a long, personal criticism of it. most of the characters were very engaging to me. some were forgettable, but for the most …

A charming voxel-based farming sandbox that lets you build up a bustling village and manage crops with a lovely, laid-back vibe. It doesn't reinvent the wheel compared to other block-building sims, but playing with friends smooths over its rough edges and empty spaces. A cozy, low-stress time-sink if you love custom-building your own world.

everything here is perfect and cute and I would stay forever if I was allowed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ if you have even a SHRED of whimsy or creativity in your heart; this game genuinely has the fullest potential to be your favorite; no matter what playstyle you prefer. You can run through the flowers and catch bugs for hours. You can completely rebuild the town to your liking. …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game years ago and tried to play it with a friend, but due to a lack of direction or explanation of game mechanics we lost interest pretty quickly. All these years later I all but forgot about the game and I wanted to try to give it another shot... I'm left unfulfilled and feel like I dodged a bullet only to dig it up and shoot my self in the foot with it. There is still no real sense of direction. Further, while some game mechanics do have tutorials the tutorials only appear after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forgot about this game much like the devs it seems, never felt finished. Lots of promise way back when that turned into nothing ultimately, a shame. There still isn't much to do or at least nothing to keep you here long nor reasons to do the stuff that is on offer frankly. Staxel never developed the QOL and gameplay it needed to be satisfying and complete, its honestly a wonder how this game still has any kind of community around it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is the closest you can get to opening a fridge and finding nothing to eat, later on, you open it again (knowing fully well you'll find nothing) and u still find nothing, the core gameplay is there to enjoy, but no content to back it up since the game is abandoned by dev, build a house for someone, find something around the world randomly, build another house for someone, and maybe build a shop on the way, also another house if u can, 1 week in stardew valley had more content than the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit; Finally got every achievement and yeah I still don't recommend the game. In fact I'd likely recommend it even /less/ than before. It's such a grind and just not fun at a certain point, wish I could refund. As of writing this, I'm trying to 100% most games in my steam library and I've finally gotten around to Staxel - I really wish I could refund this game because through what I've played through right now I would not recommend it. I thought it was a cute game at first but its really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do like this game, it has sadly however been abandoned by the developers. It will not get any more updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's been a minute but i think i know what might be bugging you about the controls. If it's the having to move and look with the same control, check the settings. There might be a way to adjust it. As for other options... -The Farming Simulator games are great for controller. - Story of Seasons is on sale on Steam right now. - Out of Ore - Mini Metro - Jalopy - Shipbreaker - the My Time At ... series - No Mans Sky - Never Alone - Hokko Life - Staxel - Rebel Galaxy - Olli Olli - Arctico…
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is left in a buggy state, and it's been 4 years without any updates or news. This game is more of a struggle then it is fun to play, stick to another farming game cause this one isn't it. :<
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you know why I have 2.5 hours in this game and no achievement at all? Well, it's because all that time was spent trying to fix the game itself. This game was clearly made by an inexperienced dev team and it was show through all the little details like the message box and the command prompt that pop up when you first start the game (Like jesus we are in 2025 lads, this is not 2000 anymore). The tutorial is a mess, very confusing and sometimes I don't even know what do I have to do. At the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was fun. I had great times playing it with friends. But now it has been abandoned since 2021. Do not buy the game. It will be fun but you wont get new updates and it will get boring. If the developers resume working and updating the game I will change my review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yea, as like the some other reviews said, it's like it could've been something good but left unfinished. The game feels, so, so, SO... flaky? Idk why but even from the start, game felt like something missing... a goal, a restriction, a motivation, anything. but most you get is some npc quest where you get from spamming the same gift 8 times to the same NPC where you put his mailbox conjoined with other 3 NPC's because game doesn't care if houses overlap, so I forced them to be roomies. Also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! IT CURRENTLY HAS MULTIPLE BROKEN QUESTS AND HAS BEEN ABANDONED BY THE LAZY DEVELOPERS AND YOU WILL HIT A WALL AND NOT BE ABLE TO PROGRESS! ALSO DO NOT BUY OTHER GAMES FROM THEM AS THEY DO NOT FINISH MAKING THEM AND LEAVE THEM IN A BAD STATE. Its a really good game until you have to do a quest where something has a chance of dropping, you'll spend HOURS and get hundreds and hundreds of items. The drop rate on these items is probably 1/500 and will take days or even weeks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →# Staxel Review *Staxel* is a game I enjoyed at first. It mixes farming, building, crafting, and village life in a way that feels inspired by games like *Minecraft, Stardew Valley,* and *Animal Crossing*. I liked the colorful blocky style, taking care of my farm, and slowly building things up. Unfortunately, the longer I played, the more lifeless the world started to feel. The town is basically the entire world you are given to explore. Unlike *Minecraft*, where you can pick a direction and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Friends and I are unable to join each other. I assume the servers required for multiplayer have been abandoned by the developers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but Linux support is non-existent. It launches a noticeably stripped down version of the game instead, which lacks modding support.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Staxel is, well, inevitable, really. That is to say it's inevitable someone would eventually try to rip off Stardew Valley and at the same time try to rip off the visual style of Minecraft. Ugh. And it's much worse than you expect it would turn out, too. Despite not being in Steam Early Access (where this arguably belongs), the game is missing features/content and is apparently incomplete. Due to the lack of meaningful progress from the developer, it's unlikely the game will be completed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great ideas that quickly became an unfinished abandonware game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cute but hollow and fastidious
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cute game but not finished unfortunately. You can still do a lot and the fact that you can basically build your own town with enough time and money is a super concept. I would advise to add a few mods to make it feel a little more "complete" or if you want to skip the grind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Staxel is a charming voxel-based farming and village-life simulator with bright, blocky graphics and a relaxed creative mode. While the sandbox tools offer genuine fun, the game ultimately falls short in delivering a compelling, cohesive experience. The Game offers almost no narrative structure, quests, or character development. Once you’ve opened creative mode, there’s little reason to engage with the “main” game. Some of the most useful tasks—certain crops, tools, or expansions—feel locked…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seconding Graveyard Keeper and Traveler's Rest. I would also like to recommend Schedule I. It's not exactly a farming game, but there is farming, and it has a similar chill vibe. Farming Simulator 25 is surprisingly very fun, but the time it takes to complete work can be draining. Palia is free, and the actual farming portion is super neat with the way crops interact with each other based on placement, though it might be too cute. Apico is bee farming, so slightly different. The creator…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand why people are down voting this game screaming "abandonware" As using that logic all games before the PS3 and Xbox era are "abandonware" as they didn't have updates, patches, DLC etc etc Same of PC's before the internet and even then games on disks were pretty much, here this is IT, expect nothing more until our next game in the series It shows I have played little on here but I have been playing more on my switch 2 But it is a good game, so don't let all the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a fun game to play around with. It is a bit grindy and definitely buggie. Nothing has been done to this game since 2021 of oct which was small bug fixes. I would love to see this game have an udate, revamp, remake or something to come back to and play again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok. So. Staxel is a fun game in the beginning. The problem is when you've played it more than an hour, then you realise, that there's not much to do. You can dismantle the city hall, which is pretty fun. That's about it tho. It's a game with so much potential, that no one really exploited. Could have been a banger with a little more love and more time in development. Sad story.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This had pretty good potential but apparently its abandoned. When it was in early access it felt pretty baren in terms of what you could do but I always thought "it'll get better on release" but I don't know, it still feels the same way. It has a really cute aesthetic and what you can do is fun, but it feels like it didn't reach its full potential. I rooted for this game hard when I first played it but now I can't really recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note: I played the game when it came out, and around 2021, and lastly in 2023. This game may have very likely improved. I have come back to this game three different times, two of them with other people, I had assumed i had more hours than i did, but the game was just that bad sadly. Me and the other players played several years apart. There was no direction at all the first time i played and the last time i played it seemed like they attempted to do that, but it was very boring and felt like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grabbed this for $5. I guess it's worth that (wish there was a star rating rather than yes/no), since it kept me busy for 56 hours before I got annoyed enough to quit. Why? Broken quest chain. Unless I need to do something else I can't progress Leif beyond friend because Rem never shows up. Only thing I'm possibly missing is maybe there's a hidden req for other relationship levels in the village, as most are still pretty low (<10/200). Overall it's worth $5 when it's on sale, but not $20, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i dont like this game the pacing is horrible it takes forever to advance hearts and there is so little info about anything on the wikia im playing with a friend and just want to see the 1.5 content so we are still barely sticking to it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another game that does a very poor job of explaining what you're supposed to do, and more importantly why. The interface is very counter-intuitive. I believe the game had a lot of ambition on what it wanted to do but failed to deliver it in a digestible format.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Return stream Saturday, 7th of February, 18:00 PM CEST!🎉 I'll go live with either some horror-esque multiplayer game, such as Escape the Backrooms, Labyrinthine or maybe Left 4 Dead 2!😈 if I'm more of a single player mindset, it'll be between Staxel, Hytale or finally trying Cult of the Lamb!🌸
neutral · AI labelView post →BE WARNED if you want to play the full version of Staxel and you are on linux Proton does not work with staxel, you will only be able to play staxel in the inferior version. i do not recommend buying this game if your on linux trying to get the full experience of this game ! ! !
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could have been so much more.. The game was on it's way to become a game on par with games like Dinkum, My time Portia, Animal Crossing and other cozy town building games. However, it got abandonned and the devs ran away with our money and their promises. Don't buy and go for Dinkum, Go Go Town, My Time at Portia or any other cozy town game. It'll all be more value to your money than this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly as someone who got into the game early, it's hard not to see it as abandonware... Most recent updates have been basic bugfixes and nothing more.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandonware, buggy, messy, not much to do once u pass hour 5-10 if im being honest. Could have been amazing, but they butchered it and left it to rot.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Staxel is one of those games that makes you think, "I'll play for 30 minutes," and suddenly it's 3 AM and you're redesigning your entire farm because the mailbox was looking at you pretty funny The biggest crime isn't anything in the game.. it's that it was left behind! It had sooooo much potential Every hour I played just made me want more content, more updates, more reasons to stay Instead, we're all just standing in an abandoned masterpiece going: "Damn... they really could've cooked."…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was made by one of those losers who were part of Starbound. Are you seeing a pattern?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This got axed really hard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lol. I dusted off my copy of Staxel recently, and I gotta say, if Eniko does to Minecraft what that game did to Stardew Valley, I might just play Minecraft for the first time in my life.
positive · AI labelView post →Not worth the money, game abandoned by a dev team who put minimal effort into the game trying to copy minecraft, stardew valley, and animal crossing at the same time. A 5 dollar time waster at best. Played to be drained and tossed aside once there is nothing else to explore. Looking more into the game and its devs, I will say one thing. It seems to be a project made by amateurs trying to make a game. Highschoolers who forgot about the game once they graduated or loss passion after a summer or…

XD LMAO I really did want to like this game though. You got to believe me. I REALLY did; however, it has aggrevated me to know end. I have started a new world about 5 or 6 different times now, only to run into a GAME BREAKING BUG!!! Thankfully, I got this game on sale for $4.99 because I can't imagine having to pay full price for a game that doesn't even run right! AND of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game fun? Yeah, i quite enjoyed it. Could some things be modified/added for better QOL? Absolutely, I have a lot of suggestions if the devs cared, but it really doesnt seem like they do. My big BIG complaint here is that today our game randomly crashed. My bf reported it on the discord and was basically told our save file was too big and that they couldnt do anything about it, sorry. Our village really wasnt that big, there was PLEEENNTY of empty space. This is a game with a big focus…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very buggy and there's a lot that's really unsatisfying about it, it needs a lot of bug and quality of life fixes but it has so much potential. Everything about it is very charming and as a new player I really like it even if it's unpolished. It's one of those projects I wish I had an obscene amount of money to sponsor further updates and stuff. It's just really really charming and combines a few different types of games together to make something really satisfying. I often…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels pretty underbaked. There's building and farming, as expected from a voxel farming game, but both are really clunky and bare-bones, yet somehow too complicated. Your plants can die when forgetting to water them, but the high-tier sprinklers are some of the most expensive items in the game. There are also way too many tools that don't need to exist and could either be replaced by other ones or completely left out. It doesn't help that proper storage options are limited to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Creative game for the non-creatives If you are someone who is not creative, but want to give a shot at playing a game which encourages creativity, then this game is for you. Similar to Dragon Quest Builders 2, building in Staxel is not freeform. Rather, you follow a specific checklist of things that need to be contained within a blueprint for the build to be valid. You are free to arrange things however you want though, and you aren't limited to just the things that are specified. I'd say…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute little farming game that is great in multiplayer. It has some features that reveal over time but progression is slow and you have no real sense of direction so after a while you wonder if you have seen it all. Overall its pretty cool but needs a stronger sense of direction for the player rather than throwing him into the game hoping he knows.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for Staxel when it came out because, at a glance, its a mix of Minecraft and Stardew. I tried it out but decided to stop playing until the devs pushed out enough updates to make it feel less empty and unpolished. Unfortunately, they seem to have abandoned and in its current state, its buggy, unsatisfying, and grindy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can confirm from my side that ~100 hours was very much fun playing with my fiancee and I was able to max all NPCs reputation and complete all quests. In my opinion this game is 100% finished and underrated. This game has it all - farming, quests, chill out, adventures in the wilds. I liked the story. In order to gain reputation you need to give gifts to the NPCs and you will be able to complete the game - a little bit of grind, but still this is good game mechanic that works properly. By…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've Played this game for years, and honestly, If you like games like Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, or any other games like those, I recommend it! Unlike Harvest Moon or Stardew, It's more open-ended and not complex to remember certain things. And just like Minecraft, it's easy to understand the building mechanics. (A feature I'm glad they added was a map that shows exactly where villagers are whenever you need to talk to them.) The villagers you meet have interesting personalities…
