A Beautiful Cage The game’s greatest strength is also its greatest irony: the art design is truly outstanding. The costumes, the enemy designs, the atmosphere of Revolution‑era Paris — all of it is rendered with incredible care. You can feel the weight of the artists’s talent, carrying what feels like 75% of the experience. It’s a shame that the rest of the game doesn’t rise to meet that level of craft. It mistakes …

Steelrising is a mid souls game. It started out promising, but quickly became boring. Let's start with the good. Boss designs are cool, the setting is also pretty cool. Combat is slow and tactical which is a big plus for me, because I'm a DS1 fan. The story, while not amazing, is actually quite interesting and near the end of the game was the only thing that kept me playing. As for the bad: - Areas feel very same-y …

Im bad at souls games. I keep dying in elden ring and nioh 3 without summons. I dont have the skills. But this game? This game allows me to toggle on "god mode," and frankly, it's so enjoyable. That's just me. I fell in love with the game. Aegis is a unique and likable character; she looks really cool, and even though she is just a mechanical robot loyal to one person, she still has a heart. Combat feels amazing.. …

I feel bad leaving a negative review but I can't honestly leave a positive one. I see a lot of promise in the game... but - The combat is really stiff and janky - Light weapons being the weapons that stagger is a really bizarre choice - The story just isn't compelling enough to invest time into it. - Aside from the Gorgon style bots, most enemies are all pretty similar in the first 2 zones. - Doors just being blocked or locked behind an upgrade feels counter-inuitive to rewarding exploration.…

Just got to the tutorial boss and I already can tell if I continue it will not be enjoyable. -The performance is bad for what it looks like. -The camera auto-centers when running in a very annoying way and there is no option to turn it off. -When locked in on an enemy, the camera will easily get obscured by bushes or walls. -It's one of those games where you don't have precise control of your character due to very pronounced turn and run stop animations. -Your character can get stuck in the…

Vive la France Spiders historically fictitious French infused souls-like complete with high production values. The intermittent story based graphical fidelity, especially of the protagonist is outstanding. Due the studio's liquidation, the studio's mastery of historical settings will be missed. The voiceovers, the costumes and the interpretive chronicled environments are all superlative. I don't like the studio's habit of handling retreat from combat. To be more specific enemy combatants…

I was surprised very positively by this one. It's a very enjoyable soulslike game with interesting story and gameplay. It doesn't have the depth of other similar games but that's not bad, if you want fast and satisfying action with ambiguous characters and combat that flows unhindered. Viva la revolution!

Performance cost is beyond ridiculous. This is a first for me—writing a review before even beating the game. I’m running under 9800X3D + RTX 5090 + 64GB DDR5. At max settings, VRAM usage sits at a terrifying 26-28GB, load spikes nearly cap out the memory entirely. CPU usage hovers around 60%, and the game straight-up freezes during certain interactions, framerates swing wildly between 13 and 96. I had to drop settings to High just to get it to a 'barely playable' state (1% lows at 30fps). Did u…

I've been trying to put my finger on exactly why the combat feels so dull. It's standard in a game like this for the player to be forced to play defensively and counterattack, but something about the behavior of the enemies isn't working. They're so passive that it slows things down to a crawl, and their massive health pools make it worse. I have to assume they're coded that way to match the player's own limited pace due to the overheat mechanic, but the result is a series of very slow,…

65/100 Not Negative but a Mixed review. Nearly 100% this game + DLC with Alchemy class. I really tried liking this game but honestly since Spider Studio is now officially liquidated, it sort of confirms the issues I've experienced with this game. Similarly to Greedfall this game once again lacked both time & money during development and once again the story and development feel incredibly rushed, unfinished & unpolished. I honestly can not understand the negative reviews. Ok, it it is not the hardest souls like you will find, but the combat system is just fine. The setting is really cool and the characters are not seen in other games. Steelrising is an interesting game. I would place it as a solid 7/10; overall enjoyable, but extremely derivative. It's very, VERY hard to not compare it to many other games that all do aspects of this game better, but the final result is a perfectly playable experience. If you like souls-likes, you'll have a good time. If you like robots, you'll have a good time. To start with the good, the best part of this game is the accessibility features. I'm pretty close to finishing the game, so I figured I'd write a review. Starting out the game was enjoyable, but as time went on the game never really progressed to that of better Souls-like games. The combat was fun for a few hours, but quickly became repetitive to the point where I was just actively running past every enemy. The level design of the game is pretty bad. It pretty much just all looks the same, and towards the end you're just running around looping what feels like very generic…

Steelrising is a fine game. Like some weapons feel super jank, others feel alright. But after 5 hours, I just feel nothing. I've been running through levels that can't help but feel like one giant hall after another, even though it's all themed after the devastated streets of old Paris. I've been through like 3 or 4 levels and I can already feel the enemy reuse. I think my last straw was how the possibilities for sequence breaks are held back both unintentionally from your weak jump and…

If you’re scared of Souls games but still want to give one a try, this is the easiest Soulslike I’ve played. I beat literally 95% of the bosses on my first attempt. Is it great? Most definitely not. In my opinion, it’s a solid 4/10—but if you’re just starting with Soulslikes and want something super easy, look no further. The story is the only thing that makes this stand out and it's kind of intriguing at first but then you realise that the dialogue in the cutscenes is abysmal. The writing is maybe the worst in any game I've played, it's not even so bad it's funny. The gameplay, maps and enemies all feel the same as other souls-likes, there's nothing that stands out about it.

This one deserves more attention than it has gotten. First off it is alternative history which is unique, at least to me; I think the only other games I have that fit this descriptor are the last two Wolfenstein games which were great in their own right. I know other sci fi creates alternate worlds, but this one has actual historical figures in it like Lafayette so it is unique in that regard. This setting and story and nicely put forward, and the gameplay/mechanics could be described as…

I would rate this game about 8.5 out of 10 – I liked the game a lot, but it had some flaws. I would count the extremely bad facial animations/cutscenes and not-so-frequent game crashes among the flaws. The characters did not look natural at all while speaking (it was also fairly choppy), and the game crashed in very unfortunate moments, like the dialogues after killing bosses (I had to kill 1 boss about 4 times before figuring out how to prevent the crash). But otherwise, I quite liked the…

Really disappointing. The beginning of the game is so difficult. It barely lets you learn the controls before putting you into a tight arena with a big boss that uses a long spear, has erratic attacks that are really hard to predict and gives you no means of countering them. I died probably around 20 times trying to get past this one bit before just giving up. And because it doesn't have difficulty levels, I can't just lower the difficulty so I can at least play the rest of the game.

This game was very fun until it wasn't. I stopped playing once I simply couldn't take any more wandering lost for tens of minutes with no map or indication of where to go. Some games I'll tolerate using a walkthrough to bridge the gaps, but this one didn't have enough juice to keep me interested through the end. I think a lot of soulslike creators think that, because Dark Souls doesn't have a map or wayfinding helpers, their game shouldn't have it either. What they often fail to see is, the…

I would leave a neutral review if I could; it starts off like Dark Souls, but turns into a standard hack-and-slash game in the second half—they failed to get the difficulty balance right. If you’re craving something in a similar setting, you’re better off replaying Lies of P. Still, there are a few positive aspects here that outweigh the negatives, so it’s worth playing through at least once.

Spiders is a truly odd developer - Always so few steps away from being incredible, but ends up with a clunky mismatch of half-arsed mechanics and amazing storytelling + narrative setting. USE THE COMPASS!!! - Very important. Get it at a discount. -First half of my playthrough was misery, entirely because I kept getting lost. Had a blast with this game. It is rare for me to finish a full game, let alone a souls-like, without long breaks. Yes, it is easier than Dark Souls, but it's properly distinctive so the comparison doesn't hold that much weight. Some positives: - Simple and intuitive controls. This game is more about positioning and timing than specific moves. This works well for the flow of the fights, but can become somewhat repetitive once you settle on one or two main weapons. - Having a lot of shortcuts…

Wow, what a mixed bag! I'll be honest, this review changed so many times while I played. Let's dive in: At the first, I really enjoyed it. I thought the environments were beautiful, the level design clever, and the allure of finding my new favorite weapon enticing. For the first third of the game, I did everything I could - checking behind walls and barrels, talking to everyone, trying all the weapons, doing side quests, defeating every enemy. But 5-6 hours in, that got repitive and I…

Oh, the poor, poor Spiders! In the past I nicknamed them “Maybe next time” developers. I played several of their games in the past — Bound by Flame, Mars: War logs, Technomancer, Greedfall and this one — and always had this persistent feeling of those games being on the right path, constantly progressing with design from title to title, but never reaching full potential. I played one game, finished it, and said to myself: “well that was neat, but something was missing”. Nevertheless, the…

Steelrising is genuinely a fun game. The combat is enjoyable and varied, the world is well-designed and feels unique, and the mix between the French Revolution and steampunk gives the game a special atmosphere. The story is actually good and interesting enough to keep you playing, not just for the combat, but also to see what happens next. Yes, the game has some technical issues and small problems here and there, but honestly none of them affected my enjoyment or ruined the experience for…

Aesthetics are cool, combat is okay. My problem with the game is that there's not much enemy variety and the environments are largely the same. There's probably fun to be had if you're a battle junkie and need more to fight. A lot of good, but not enough to keep me interested.

the game wasn't too bad - nothing revolutionary, just a souls-like with a French theme. But I enjoyed my time!

I got this suggested again to play, remembered I didnt leave a review so long ago and decided "WTH, why not?" ok, let's start this puppy. The review is negative but it's most a "meh" than a "bleah". The pro: it's very well done, graphically very nice even with its age, you can play it well with both keyb+mouse or joypaad, there arent many bugs, the exploration is fun as is the search for secrets, the fight is satisfying (for the first half hour). All in all if everything would stay in line…

    - If you like jank (but beautiful looking) 3D soulslikes made by teams with passion this game is for you. - If you are tired of UE5 optimization issues, and are interested in optimization issues of an inhouse game engine (Hope you have VRAM), this game is for you. This game has the speed and vibes of Bloodborne, mixed with the posture breaking of Sekiro, and the traversal options of an Assasin's Creed game, in an alternative steampunk take on the French revolution gone very wrong.…

I'm playing **Death Howl** this week. It's a turn based Soulslike grid-based strategy deckbuilder (quite possibly the biggest genre salad I've played so far). It's been okay so far. *Love* the art, it's got a beautiful minimalistic but expressive pixel art in a very distinctive muted color palette. The story so far is fairly mediocre. It's okay but it's very obviously a story of a mother's journey towards accepting the death of her child, with every major area of the game representing one stage…

I am genuinely very impressed by Steelrising. I generally try to review games on their own merits, regardless of developer; but having played 3 Spiders RPGs in the last decade and finding all 3 to be heavily flawed (Mars: War Logs, Bound By Flame & The Technomancer), I started to lose my faith in this developer a bit. It was frustrating because I said multiple times, both in discussions about the games and in my reviews of them, that Spiders has potential, so much of it, but it just isn't…

TLDR: souls-like for those who never played souls-like games. For fans: does not worth it even on sale. Steelrising auditory - newbies in souls like genre. There are no challenges for souls-like fans, poor difficulty, weapon variety, boss design. Game can buy your attention only with graphics and mediocre sidequests. Despite graphics of Paris and costumes is good, face animations is like from meme-games. Bosses are trashes. Almost every boss you can have feeling why this slow and stupid…

There are things in this game that i like, but i can't really reccomend it. It has a lot of charm and interesting ideas but its a janky mess. Animations are clunky and while some are very pretty, Some weapons feel terrible to fight with. Upgrades to your character are so small its almost not noticeable. That combined with very slow leveling makes the game like you have no real power progression. Get it on a sale if you are interested, its quite pretty and has some cool stuff but not worth…
