Where Did the Soul Go? It is with great reluctance that I must critique one of my all-time favorite game series, but this latest project feels devoid of soul and love. Technical Performance While the game runs relatively stable on Unreal Engine 5, its technical state remains appalling. It is plagued by numerous bugs and strange graphical artifacts. I believe most would agree that it is high time developers seriously …

The game is fun, but it's a game with stealth, rather than a stealth game. Let me explain: Blades of Greed improves on the stealth mechanics of the Styx series, only to make them almost irrelevant. You can now close doors behind you and roll from cover to cover, as well as move with your target if you're doing a silent kill. All of these are nice little improvements overshadowed by the other mechanics and skill that …

I'd best describe this game as being two steps forwards and one step backwards. I have very much enjoyed playing and most fans of the previous games will probably too. But it feels like for every noteworthy improvement that has been made, there are also new noteworthy issues where the game falls short. (No pun intended for our little green friend). Positives: + More fun abilities with decent balancing. The …

TL;DR: The game improves the series in mobility, verticality, and pacing, but it suffers from shallow stealth depth (AI/patterns are too simple), structural repetition, and a visually unstable technical presentation (ghosting, artifacts, noisy shadows). Recommended for Styx and stealth fans, but not without major issues. TO THE DEVELOPERS: I’m writing this review as constructive feedback because I care deeply about …

I had a lot of fun. Was it janky? Absolutely. Was it campy and nonsensical? It sure was. Was it better than the second game? Obviously not, it was worse. But was it Styx? 100%, it was 50 hours of pure Styx, warts and all. I hope it didn't bomb that bad and the developers will get a chance to make another Styx at some point.

I know I don't have a crazy amount of hours in the game, but as someone who's played the first two over and over as well as stealth genres being a favorite of mine, I feel like I can justifiably give a true review. The game is unpolished. Point blank period. I genuinely can see this game getting withdrawn and reworked on then re released. I've seen some of the devs replies to the reviews and they're cut and dry with a lot of dodging in terms of certain issues being brought up repeatedly.…

I was going to wait to fully finish the game before reviewing but at 11h, I think I know enough to judge. No, I do not recommend this game, I have 100% both the other games, and I will continue to do so, but the games philosophy has greatly changed. This game is trying to lean more into metroidvania by giving you equipment as you play so you can access more areas in major zones. The gameplay takes place in 3 major zones that are a great idea, but theres very little actually in them - for a…

Personally, since I own the game, I can’t recommend it. It feels very different from the previous titles and is way too easy—even on Goblin difficulty. They went in a completely different direction with more open-world style maps which i like however they removed features like the “no kills” and “undetected” badges that used to reward XP. They also made using items like sand and throwing knives unnecessarily complicated. In the previous games, it was a simple one-click action. Now, you have to…

I could write about very non-existent story, stealth being something that was an after thought (in a stealth game) and powers being very meh. But others have covered that before me. My main complaint after paying full price is that I got stuck to a game breaking bug after playing the game for 27 hours. And I kid you not, it's a mission critical door being stuck closed. No open prompts at all and its in your hideout, so now I can't launch any missions at all or play the game (other than…

As always I will start with the short version. Should you buy this game? If you played and loved the first, absolutely not. Don't waste your money or your time. If you do bother purchasing the game, do so at the steepest possible discount. Blades of Greed has excellent graphics, good voice acting, and a truly amazing soundtrack, while also improving on Shards of Darkness by making Styx's dialogue contain significantly fewer one-liners. With all these positives, you may be asking why I said…

I'm huge fan of the first two games, but I can't recommend. Blades of Greed had me excited but I feel sort of let down. The first map The Wall is really cool and I spent so much time just ignoring the main objectives to just explore around. The other two zones feel rushed and not as interesting. Every main mission is just go absorb this quartz and that's it with zero variety. The old games had missions where you got graded on speed, alerts, kills, and collectibles that made each level…

Reviewing early in the hopes the devs might actually read this. Having playd both previous styx games and loved them, i sadly cant recommend this one. It lost A LOT of the charm that made the other games great. Imidiatly upon starting the game i notice that there seems to be no graphical improvements over the 2017 game. The lighting is different sure but that only makes it harder to tell when your actually in the dark and when its still considered bright. The previous game had outfits and…

The lighting needs work it’s hard to tell when you’re safely hidden from enemies. Running on UE5, the game needs several patches. It has crashed 6–8 times, usually after 30 minutes. Textures pop in and out, which is very distracting. The game lacks Styx’s usual banter and player insults he feels toned down a lot. Lacks full keyboard customization. The game is controller-friendly but not optimized for keyboard and mouse Very Well Styx’s movement feels weird compared to the previous games. I…

A review of Nolan's Odyssey from a mythology nerd. Last night, I went to watch Nolan's adaptation of Odyssey. Homer's Odyssey has existed for over 3000 years, but I suppose it's still worth pointing out that there's lots of spoilers here. First and most important, no I don't give a single shit about the "controversial" casting choices. That was a manufactured racist and transphobic outrage. Helen was in like 3 short scenes. I can recommend this game - but with mixed feelings. I love Styx, and this game feels like Styx. The good: The world looks great and is genuinely fun to traverse. Climbing around, planning routes, sneaking, and assassinating enemies is as enjoyable as ever. Styx’s comments and one-liners are excellent, as always. Using a Zeppelin as a mobile base to travel between hub worlds is a really nice idea and fits the game well. The Wall is by far the best level in the game. The verticality is…

    1. The difficulty feels almost ceremonial. You can casually jog through corridors, and if someone spots you, they patiently wait while you remember which button lets you fight back. Tension never really shows up — it must have missed the meeting. 2. The experience is strangely empty. No sharp humor, no memorable ideas, no moments that make you think or even smile. It feels less like a finished vision and more like a checklist that was quietly completed and submitted. 3. Facial animations are…

It hurts me to say, given the track record of the franchise and how much I liked the first game, liked the second game, and was greatly excited for this one. It's... Disappointing. Truly, utterly, disappointing. I'll start with the gameplay, mechanics, iada iada. I'm not gonna lie about this, it's great. The Styx games are my favorites and the totally unexpected sequel was the first game I was excited for in a long while. Unfortunately it's a disappointment. Elephant in the room: hardware requirements are ridiculous for graphical quality that is - charitably - a sidegrade from 2017's beautifully stylized and crisp Shards of Darkness. Apart from that: It's too easy. Even on Goblin difficulty it's a breeze to get through. There are simply too many ways to bypass obstacles and recover from…

What an utter trainwreck. Where to even start? I suppose I can start with the fact that this is the Marvelization of Styx and the Of Orcs and Men franchise as a whole. If you had an issue with Styx's pop culture references and wacky humor in Shards of Darkness, you might think, for a fleeting moment, that it was dialed back for the sake of grounding the character in his own world and taking the world a bit more seriously. I have now completed the game, and I have to admit that I find it a disappointing entry to the series. Hopefully they fix some of the problems, but most of my negative points are not bugs. TLDR: It's ♥♥♥♥ and here is why: Firstly, in Shards of Darkness (which I will compare this game to as it is the previous Styx game), Styx had a strong personality of a carefree, hateful goblin that had a dark and witty humour and the game did not take itself too serious. In this game Styx has "matured" in a…

Styx Blades of Greed has a major identity crisis because it tries to force ARPG mechanics into a stealth game that does not reward your effort. The biggest problem for myself is the XP system. You get zero XP for taking down enemies or clearing out difficult rooms. All your progress comes from quests and finding collectibles. Since the main character is so weak and dies in one or two hits, there is no reason to engage with the world. Even when you do clear a room, completing an objective often…

For some reason people are listing this as a bad thing as if Shards of Darkness wasn't a complete butchery of his character. The game isn't bad, it's a bit jank as you'd expect from the 'of Orcs and Men' line of games. But I have a few nit picks 1. Side quests aren't really.. trackable? Sneaky stealthy gamers don't skip on the Styx games tomorrow. The protagonist is sometimes grating (especially in the second game where they tried to dial up the Deadpool a bit) but the level design is very Thief, but even more vertical. The voice acting of Styx is great as always, but all the other VA is the worst ive ever heard in a professional game (reminds me of early Skyrim fan-Mad VA, iykyk). The controls are stiff and clunky. The Styx character and series is one of my all-time favorites. The game is pure stealth, with often multiple routes to complete an objective or sneak past those pesky enemies. Toe-to-toe combat is possible, but highly awkward and dangerous; it's best to either sneak past the enemy or use the environment for some creative kills. Styx has his usual sarcastic wit about him, but seems strangely subdued, which is a bummer as he is so unique in the stealth genre. I did encounter some bugs, visual…

I just finished the game... I have a lot of conflicting feelings... The game is more bright, more dynamic, bigger more scale, and a lot of revisiting to collect items and new small missions to other areas, Styx voice acting is sublime.... The rest of the cast voice acting + character design, undercook story, lack of cinematics.... (Dude you can't make me release the orcs and don't see how the masacre the guards) Tourches are useless in this edition, just a decoration. No more sliding down on…

it pains me to leave a negative review because it feels like im backstabbing an old friend. Go read other reviews for a more detailed description i agree with most of the points made. They definitely worked hard on this and there is alot of content here but compared to the other games it falls short.

Unfortunate disappointment. After the first two games you get into the vibe of being a stealthy little fella being rewarded for not killing anyone, doing missions as quickly as possible and having a continuous live story telling. The mission objectives have a point in story progression. You can forget all of these in this game. You got rid of the using your clone ability which made the game so characteristic. Now you basically kill everything as the guard paths dont seem so sophisticated and…

This bored me, which as someone who loved the last two enough to get every achievement without looking them up is saying something. Ultimately I think this is down to the world being to big, and to empty with little incentive to explore beyond resources and potions. They could of done so much with it, had little stories about nps characters building the world, lots of hidden quests as you explored instead of starting with a list, instead we have guards complaining about food and work and…

TO THE DEVELOPERS: I’m writing this review as constructive feedback because I care deeply about this series. I finished every Styx game, and even if they can feel “rough,” I…

Out today, Styx: Blades of Greed isn't quite as well cut out as a fine piece of quartz, but it's easily the best stealth game in years - and so utterly compelling you'll be desperate to get back to it when you have to do boring un-murdery things. Our review: www.eurogamer.net/styx-blades-...

The whole game is a bunch of fetch quest nonsense, Each act you need to do 6 fetch quests before getting to anything looking like a real quest. Repeat thrice. That's just bad and sad. First two games were great, this one is a lazy copycat.

Something here is missing. Something feels wrong. I've seen people leaving negative reviews for this game are complaining about things like how fragile Styx is (which he should be, he's a goblin) and the change in Styx's personality to be a bit more serious like he was in Master of Shadows - these are great, but there is something just not right here and for the entire tutorial and part of the opening I played I couldn't put my finger on it at first. Personally, I think it's the movement -…

    13. Styx: Blades of Greed I was ridiculously happy when they announced a new Styx game, so for folks who love a good stealth 'em up murder puzzle, STABBY GOBBO IS BACK! store.steampowered.com/app/3290690/...

There is no story, all you're required to do is collect quartz. and when you're done collecting quartz at each of the three zones guess what? more quartz.

Master of Shadows is back... and changed. For the better? Styx is one of the few modern stealth series, and I am really happy they have been able to make 3 of these. And while Blades of Greed is taking steps, I am not sure if they are forward or back. More like sideways. Pros: + Styx has gotten a big movement upgrade and now slides and glides quick around the map. + Level design has moved from linear to big open levels. This does make it quite satisfying to move around the world, and there's…

I was really excited to hear a new sequel for Styx because I thought we wouldn't get one. Now that it's out and I've tried it... I am disappointed. I only had 2 hours of gameplay experience (steam shows 3 but I was afk for 1 hour) but there really wasn't anything to "push" me to explore or continue on with the story. I dropped in and was like... wtf am I doing here? Why is Styx helping out this human? This elf? Why are these dwarves so cooperative? And why is Styx so... boring? For some reason…

I'm glad I tried the game despite the mixed reviews and got it on sale. I've beaten all the other Styx games and I love stealth games. If you like Styx, this is more Styx with better graphics. The same verticality. The same different ways to access areas. The same cool medieval environments. I really don't know what these "not like Styx 1 and 2" reviews are talking about. This game is classic Styx stealth action. Is Styx a perfect game with no jankyness? No. But it's still classic Styx…
