What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 192 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (782 of 1,173 positive).
Many players praise the game's potential and unique features, but note it is buggy and unoptimized. [1][2][3][4] Several reviewers report that the game was abandoned by its publisher, leaving it unfinished. [5][6][7][8]

It just straight up stopped running after a while. I played for almost 14 hours and was honestly having a good time, but then they updated it and somehow caused chopping down trees to crash my game. Shortly after that, stuff happened with their publishers and they announced on discord that they were going to stop working on it. I've waited several months to post this review just in case, but nope, the game is …

This is a hard review for me to write, as I really have enjoyed the time I have had with Sunnyside. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the developer's control, I cannot in good faith recommend this game. As it stands, Sunnyside is unfinished and is highly unlikely to ever reach anything close to that state. While the game has many fun systems and ideas, poor programming has led to many bugs and a game that …

I'm so happy that original devs got back the full rights to SunnySide and will now be continuing development to make 2.0 version that the game always was supposed to be before earlier publisher made them push it out as 1.0 before it was completely ready. I've loved this game since start and really hope it'll shine in new, updated version fulfilling the potential it always had ^_^

So far, I'm really enjoying this game. I was a little offput by all of the negative reviews at first, so I downloaded the demo first before actually purchasing it to test it out and make sure my laptop could run it. I ended up buying the full game before finishing the demo. Genuinely, I don't understand the poor reviews. I love how realistic the game is in the sense you get to use an actual hose to water your …

I will be one of the few that recommends this game. I would recommend getting it on sale, the poor devs already got shafted by the publisher so there's not a lot to be done with supporting them by buying this game. This game is rough on the edges, but if you have patience and enjoy a bit of a grind, this game is decent and has a lot of depth. There's a lot of characters and they all are pretty well fleshed out. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I happened to stumble on this game by a steam store discovery queue. I love this game, and I think had it been given more time to polish it this would be a perfect game. The farm sim game play combined with the art style and adventure aspect drew me in so quickly. When I first started playing I instantly fell in love - but I did mistakenly assume that the game was still in early access just based off the quality alone. I don't want to go on too long, so I'll keep it as short as I can. There…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want so desperately to like this game, as you can see from the hours I've put in. It's just too buggy and unfinished. It should have come to early access first, instead of abandoning it and move on to make new games. Doing this made it feel like a cash grab. They added to many partial ideas and didn't flesh out and perfect the basics first. We don't need a card battle system for the mines. This is a personal opinion, but we don't need fighting in a cozy farm sim at all. (Not just a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No update since March seems like the game got abandoned, so many people bought it now we're stuck with it. Steam needs to give refunds for abandoned games and remove those games from the steams store.

As it stands, Sunnyside is unfinished and is highly unlikely to ever reach anything close to that state. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I backed this game - I wasn't up to date with the information or state of the game because I was too busy with work and my laptop wasn't up to requirements to play the game with a good frame rate - I noticed this in the play tests so I deiced to wait until I could buy a better laptop. Now half a year after release of the game and upgrading my laptop I was really excited to play the game. I played just about half of spring of the first year and i am frustrated by the state of Sunnyside. It…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I want to say for transparancy that I discovered this game through its Kickstarter several years back, which I supported with a pledge. And I love Sunnyside, I really do. It has a lot of charming aspects, and in my opinion, a truly solid potential. Yet, I cannot recommand it in its current state. Why ? Well, to put it short, it's a mess. Performances and optimization are still severely lacking, spoiling the gaming experience no matter how you play. Buggy animations, faulty…

neutral · AI labelView post →(Edit: I have recently learned that the devs have abandoned this game and will no longer be providing updates, so please take that and the reviews into consideration before purchasing!) While the 2D artstyle is very pretty, I personally can't stand the 3D models. They feel very unpolished still. For just one example, during character creation, it's pretty clear the artist doesn't really know how to model properly just yet. Some hairstyles have very haphazard shading, others are a single solid…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the game, when I tried out the demo version and was excited to play it on the early access. After a couple of hours, when I got past the point I was in the demo, I started to notice more and more areas where it was lacking. But it was an early access after all, so my hopes were still high. I then read into the discussions about the things I was missing and got more and more disappointed. For example the romancing system. They decided during development that it would be too complex…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be super transparent: I love this game so much in theory and in a lot of practices, but I don't love playing it on my Steamdeck specifically. Pros: - one of the most "alive" worlds I've found in a farming sim game. I love that you can go from your farm to the nearby village, then off to the university research center, then into the caves, and then go check out the big city. People are milling about, there's different transportation systems available (bike to scooter to car to truck) that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →CONS: 1 - Abandoned game, developers had issues with the Publisher 2 - No roadmap of future updates 3- Clumsy biking and swimming in PC 4 - Textures are plain, specially grass 5 - Demo is 10 in game days starting Monday. From Wednesday (last quest) to Sunday (attend farmers market) there is not much to do, which will take you over the 2 hours deadline to request a Steam Refund 6 - No voice acting 7. Before playing the game for the first time, they want you to agree with the EULA that says:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've rarely written negative reviews in my entire life, because in most cases, a lot of work and effort goes into the product I'm reviewing. And in most cases, it's open to discussion, especially regarding taste and personal preferences. With this game, the factor that gives it a clear no is not even the game or the story, not the mechanics or the lack of anything, but the fact that I can't play it. The fact that I can't play it isn't due to my PC or my personal incompetence, but rather to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game had so much potential and I really loved the concept but the devs chose to focus on other games instead. Their answers on X just connfirmed that they rather put their energy in other projects. Really sad. The promised multiplayer will probably never come.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Sigh* I hate leaving negative reviews but honesty is important when someone is about to spend 29.99 on a truly mediocre product. If you are expecting something like an authentic version of rural Japan then you will be disappointed. This is more like what westerners that got all their knowledge of Japan from bad Anime think japan is like. The flaws in world-building are myriad. One obvious example is the fact that Raccoons are EVERYWHERE but there is not a single Tanuki in the game. I think it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointed. This game should be in early access. Developer was quiet active until Sept, then all communication and updates stopped. The game is far from finished, haven't had a chance to try combat as the performance in a nearly empty cave is terrible. Rag dolling and falling off your bike, with no way to get out of it except warp back home and bike all the way again. Save to sleep is a BAD idea when your game is buggy and can crash loosing an entire day and having to grind it out again.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game. It has some gamebreaking bugs which won't get worked on by the Devs own admissions. It advertises as a full release - It is not a full release, it's early access. If it was listed and priced accordingly for early access I would be kinder to it's bugs, but it's not
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will never buy a game that isn't mostly finished again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game released unfinished and at the time I purchased it, it was being sold as a full release. The developer released some bug fixes but has since postponed continuing to update the game because they aren't making money off it due to their publishing contract and will be working on this one when money allows (Please see their forum post for more info). It doesn't instill much confidence in me that this game will continue to get updates because there's no guarantee that their new game will be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game was advertised as if it weren't an early access game, which it is. I hope they keep working on it, but it's not looking good. don't waste your money until there are huge updates. they are already working on different games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i was holding off writing a negative review when it first launched, because there was an early dev note saying they were planning on an update to leave sparky behind when going about your business soon, but there doesn't seem to have been any mention of that in the months since then. as part of the huge chunk of the playerbase who finds being constantly followed around and interrupted while making friends and going on dates horrifically intrusive, this really took a great game and ruined all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did I love this game? Absolutely. Did it give me more grief than enjoyment? 100%. The final nail for me was when, at the end of a fully productive day, I attempted to sleep and finish the day, only for the 'E' key to suddenly stop working. Okay, inconvenient, but I'll let the clock drain and have my avatar pass out. Nope! Clock stopped at 23:30, nothing else worked, so I had to close the app and lose the day's progress. Might not have been too bad if I wasn't constantly losing days of gameplay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dearly want to love this game, but in it's current state it's too unstable and buggy. Game feels like it's held together with duct tape and silly putty. I have to cross my fingers that it won't crash every ten seconds. My pc can run AAA releases on full settings, but frequently chugs at 10 fps with this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm starting to get tired of a lot of farming games over complicating stuff. This game if fun but the storage system is insane, the tutorials really don't cover a lot of elements of gameplay you need to know to get stuff done. If you were to take a long break from the game it will be a challenge to relearn the controls and remember how to do certain stuff. Just taking care of the farm animals, refilling food/water bowls, watering/fertilizing the plants took all morning and afternoon. It's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start this review by saying that this is a relatively long review, so if you want a TLDR the last section should sum up most of what I want to say about the game. Concept: 9/10 Sunnyside is essentially a cozy farming sim, which I absolutely love. You as a main character have moved from the busy cities of Tokyo into the countryside to start a new life. You meet a tight-knit community of people you eventually get to know better, all while building your farm and traversing through the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First time I ever wanting a refund on a game. I waited for over two years for this game, prepaid years for it. I kept up with the updates, the sever, interacting a bit in the community and was so excited for it to be released. I was very disappointed when it didn't end up on switch but was alright with playing on the PC. There was a bit of lag on the character creation but it was manageble. As soon as I actually get into the game? It's unplayable. My computer runs much heavier games then this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After following this game through development, it really seemed like the devs just gave up towards the end. At a certain point, it just stopped getting better. It is far from polished, the quests/story took very little time to complete, the map feels a bit empty for how large it is, etc. It just seems like they had so much planned and never followed through resulting in a game that lacks depth and feels like it doesn't have enough to do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many people would of already seen my 'Sunnyside World' game asset pack before. Some might even of used it for prototypes here and there. But I dont think I've ever mentioned the assets origin!.. I was comissioned to do a small visual exploration for a potential game project... ... #pixelart
neutral · AI labelView post →i followed the development on this game and bought it on release and all i can say is: i wish i got a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crashes way too often, you lose progress and the graphics are pretty bad too. Good in concept, not so great execution.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is enjoyable and beautifully made with addictive soundtracks that i started listening to while working. the depth of the farming mechanics feels almost too real and I was excited to automate farming and production but then came the crashes... oh the crashes... since this is a sleep-to-save game, any progress made since your char woke up are lost if the game crashes. the game has crashes often enough that sadly, it has made me stop playing the game out of frustration
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs dropped this. I dont know why, but thats maybe why it's in this unfinished state. This could've been a cute farming sim, feels everything was done mediocre / not finished. I can't recommend this :( It's filled with bugs and glitches. Tutorials / Quests don't fully explain everything, if you screw up driving your bicycle you get stuck in the bamboo forever and have to force load. Story is.. okay. I kept trying to play, cause maybe once you unlock more things and progress it would get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while I love this game and hope that it isn't the case, it seems the developers have abandoned this game and it has been about a year since the last update. There hasn't even been word on any of their social media about updates or progress on the game. If there was talk about progress or even small updates I'd have hope that the game may one day be in a playable state but that just isn't the case. The day we get an update, if we get an update, I will change my review. for now its unplayable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Held off reviewing this hoping a big patch would fix some of the issues it just never happened This game feels like it should be in early access I have no clue why it shipped as a full game ~Game runs poorly I have a decent system 9800x3d 4080 Super 64G of dd5 ram and on average I get around 50-60 fps ~Terrible animations everything from walking to swinging an axe to riding a bicycle seem to use place holder animations everything feels bad ~Marriage was listed on the kick starter was…

She's Blake Ortiz from the game Sunnyside, which is by @aftabigames.bsky.social and is clearly a labour of love! positive · AI labelView post →Abandoned game by a company that sold out their customers for a quick buck. Released a game that was a miss-mash of ideas and slapped 1.0 on it when it needed more time to bake in the oven. Wish I could refund this game but sadly no luck. I will never buy another game from these people because you'll never know when they will up an abandoned another game for a quick buck...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An unfinished buggy mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't recommend. I backed the kickstarter for this years ago and now I'm wishing I had saved the $40. Game/controls are sooo clunky and laggy I could barely make it an hour into the game before giving up. I have been an avid farm sim player since like 2009 and between this and rune factory 5 (which I absolutely adore despite its faults) I've been convinced to never ever buy another open world farming sim.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The largest television I have seen not permanently attached to a wall or stadium is out on the street in Sunnyside for the Ecuador-Mexico game.
neutral · AI labelView post →I really want to like this game. It's essentially 3D Stardew with its own takes on things. Really cozy, nice artstyle, etc etc. But the bare minimum I expect is for the game to not have a game breaking bug. I'm not going to spoil it, but basically, in this one quest involving a certain character that has something to do with the caves, there is a certain point where if you check your map after completing an objective within the quest, you get softlocked because the exit map button no longer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead, buggy, & abandoned by devs/publishers. Dont waste your time and play ANY better sim/farming game. Everything in this game was left unfinished and unpolished/buggy/glitchy/ugly. Not money worth!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Metroidvania fans, rejoice 🎉 The sequel to the beautifully-set, award-winning, fire-fighting, side-scrolling platformer Nocturnal is nearly here. (Localized by LocQuest in 8 languages) 🔥 Shoutout to Sunnyside Games for this fun one! Demo out now on Steam, full game releasing soon! 🔜
neutral · AI labelView post →i had high hopes for this one. but major performace issues, the gameplay just doesnt stack up to others in the genre, and them excluding staples of the genre like marriage is just kind of stupid. get this on sale and its fine, but dont pay full price for it. its not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunnyside. An amalgamation of different ideas and dreams held hostage by a never-ending slew of issues. Picked this up last year, don't recommend it at all. Just don't even bother. Reason? Lots. Hurts to say, as I did find certain features the game advertised to be interesting, but my god. I haven't played a game this poor when it comes to performance in such a long time, excluding Steam's usual shovelware. If there's one thing that hurts this game the most, it is the horrible performance. My…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They promised a lot, delivered very little and now they've abandoned the game to start another game that they will inevitably abandon as well. Another unscrupulous cash grab. I'm sorry I wasted my money, don't make the same mistake. Avoid these devs, I know I will from now on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After being stuck in a bit of a gaming runt, this has pulled me out nicely! very cosy but enough storyline to keep it interesting! only frustration is that it does that thing where you have to go to sleep to save :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is great, its beautiful, nicely built. But its just the shell of a game. Furniture makes your person look like a giant. The furniture is extremely limited. I have many mansions that lay empty because of the lack of furniture in the game. It is such a beautifully done game, i just wish they would've waited until the game was done to release. I'm losing interest the longer it takes for the "updates" for the game to release. It was fun during beta, there was a lot more furniture in beta.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game - hate the constant crashes. Don't like having to repeat same tasks over and over again due to game crashing. I did not see a way to save the game throughout the day.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary Don't buy this game, not at least until it gets properly improved. At the moment it REALLY should've been labeled an early access game. Here's my overall explanation: It's performance is terrible takes up more than half of GPU and CPU resources Requires you to let it bypass Protected Folders in documents, when no other game I've had on steam requires that . I'm not willing to do that just for a game. Bugs are currently still being worked out at this point It overall really feels…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I REALLY wanted to love this game, but it feels way too unpolished. Buggy, empty, laggy and overall boring. I was hoping the devs would update and improve some aspects of the game after its release, but they just abandonned it to start working on an other game. Honnestly, I would advise to not waste your money on that game like I did. Very disappointing...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When hearing that this game got original developers back and planning for 2.0, I can see this game having great potential in future. It is already feeling really rewarding to make working farm on RPG mode as I do like when progress is slowish and you need actually plan accordingly what you are doing next, instead of slapping all working stations, animal shelters etc. Definitely want to see what 2.0 will be offering in future.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game seems to have been in a dispute with Publisher who may or may not have forced the Devs to release when the game was probably at best Beta. Now the update news claims that UE5 update will improve performance and stuff, never read that one before. Essentially the Publisher ran the game like its a scam and ran with the money, now they moved price to 19,50. I absolutely got played by dev/publisher and this is easily a refund if I could still get it. This game is an unmitigated disaster.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this game so badly, but it's barely playable half the due to the lags and bugs. And I feel this game is such a shell. There's little point to doing anything in the game. I feel there is no end goal, which isn't in most farming games, but in most farming game there's still goals and experiences worth continuing to play for. I haven't seen it in this game. I also feel the devs are cold and distant and do not respect the community that plays the game. They seem completely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible game. I bought a new PC for 1560$ with 32 RAM, i5 14400, its a legion tower pc. And the loading took forever and it's heating my PC up. It barely ran on my laptop and I was hoping my new PC could at least run it. Game is smooth, but if it heats my PC up I don't want to risk playing. I also can't tell if the ground is just not rendering or if it just looks bad, and changing graphics didn't make it look any different. This game is trash to run. Don't buy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ugh. Where to start... The fact that I'm writing a review after a crash won't make me turn this into a negative review but gosh it pisses me off... Losing an hour of progress? Welcome. Firstly, I really do enjoy the game. One of the best farmer games out there I have ever played cause I like persona vibes, details and being busy BUT the busy part is actually a lot. There are so many things to do if you want to go for every mechanic like farming, ranching, cooking, foodcrafting which overwhelmes…
