Do not buy this for the Steam Deck. Despite being Verified, it is broken and unplayable. Trying to load a level in Story mode will display a white screen where a cutscene should be playing. After 20 seconds or so, the game crashes. Tried multiple combinations of recommended launch arguments and Proton-GE versions, but nothing works. The Verified rating should be revoked.

I've always loved the Bomberman series since I played Mega Bomberman on the SEGA Megadrive/Genesis way back in the 90's. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend buying this game unless you have an intense craving to play Bomberman on Steam, as this is the only iteration available on the platform. The negative review is because there are some SERIOUS problems with this title, as outlined below. PROS: - True to the original …

The good: It's Bomberman, FINALLY! You can mute the voices The bad: English voice acting is cringe Can't (officially) split voice to Japanese while keeping text as English An in game shop for cosmetics, characters, and stages. Can't play higher than 1920x1080 The ugly: The price, wait for a 75% discount or more The in game shop, it would take over 42 hours to earn enough in game currency to buy everything.

The online of this game is DEAD it's really good for the storymode, local co-op. Don't come for this one expecting online For the Online part play the F2P Online version (that only the Battle 64 is f2p though)

I will mention that this game does have bad qualities to it, but I will get to that later. In my opinion though the good qualities for this game, and that is what really matters, FAR outweighs the bad ones. Because you don't really NEED to focus on the bad if you mainly focus on the gameplay. And knowing Bomberman fans, that is what TRULY matters. The Good: * Classic Bomberman Battle action, which features 8-player …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Nintendo Life's preview stated that "Super Bomberman R isn't going to break any ground with its familiar explosions and mayhem, but it doesn't have to; sometimes, colourful old-school gaming is refreshing in this era of progressively darker and more complex titles." This was reiterated in their review, with Steve Bowling describing it as "no-frills", but "the go-to multiplayer launch title" for the Switch. Super Bomberman R received "generally mixed reviews", according to review aggregator website Metacritic. The main point of criticism from critics was the game's lack of innovation from previous Bomberman titles. Ryan McCaffrey, in a mixed review for IGN, said its multiplayer options were…

The game took more of an exploration approach to the worlds, allowing the player to explore an open area before engaging in battles! The battles got intense at times, and the soundtrack was bumping! It was a fun time!
positive · AI labelView post →This track is called "Boss Robot"! Super Bomberman R was an awesome game! It was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo Switch, and it was a fun time! I enjoyed playing through the story and trying to do no-hit runs on expert difficulty 😊 it's sequel, Super Bomberman R 2, was a good time as well!
positive · AI labelView post →Absolute trash, i bought the game after testing it on Google Stadia, really loved the online part. This CRAP steam version doesnt work online and apparently they are not going to fix it. DO NOT BUY
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's good but should be cheaper
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bomberman on steam was just what i was missing in my collection of classic titles. Super Bomberman R comes with new characters, a new mode which is based on teamwork. Local & online co-op to 8 players. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52WDTBenxXI
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been looking for something to fill the void left by Atomic Bomberman, which was a game we played at LAN games for over a decade. The lack of IPX network in Windows 7 onwards killed that years ago. We've tried multiple different bomberman clones over the years, but this looked like it had potential. Alas, the input lag when playing multiplayer is unreal. It feels like you're gliding on glue. Maybe the campaign is better but I don't care about that, all I wanted was a frantic,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Online play is broken and Konami never fixed it. For the full multiplayer experience you will have to play local only. Cannot recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant game but single player doesn`t work on steam deck and no sign of fixing i despite multiple people raising it. don`t buy on steam deck
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Konami finding success with Super Bomberman R, deciding to revive Suikoden right after in 2017, then ending up on a mobile game with Star Leap could've been a tragedy. The fact that they realized "wait nobody cares about the IP anymore" and worked backwards with the remaster and anime first is cool.
neutral · AI labelView post →game shows deck verified but game crashes. I tried online fixes but does not work. would not recommend for the deck.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PS1 ver have way more features 1..after match menu (status , who killed you "p2/p3" which caused so much players fight back in time ) you [YOU KILLED ME !!!] that was fun :c 2. so much cuter and fun maps "in this one" it's barely have any maps 3. ps1 have eggs hatching super power |mount|" bunny or rhino it WAS THE BEST.. sadly it is not included 4. the Bomberman voices were iconic and squeaky now they sound sonic-like. lost their characteristic voice
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do NOT buy this game if you want to use it for online battles against your friends. We tried everything we could think of or find on the internet and still have not managed to get into a single functioning match.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Online doesn't work at all. Friends and I got it to play together but it just doesn't work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IT IS a super bomberman game for anyone who understands what that truly means. If you don't know what that means, imagine yourself sitting on a couch arguing with your friends who gets next turn when someone loses. The upside is that online is free, the downside is that you have to purchase online separately if you intend to play against friends in organised battles. Wait for a sale. Wait for a sale. Wait for a sale. This is not worth full price. Wait for a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are better games out there for the same price. The single player aspect of the game works just fine. As of December 2020, the multiplayer portion has yet to work for me. It appears the online community just isn't as active as it may have been before, I bought it thinking more PvP rather than just going campaign mode Overall I'd give it 3 stars out of 5. Not terrible, but not the best allocation of your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game may scratch that Bomberman itch in a pinch - it for me really misses the mark and I deeply regret buying in without any prior research because I thought "well they can't mess up a bomberman game now, can they"... boy was I wrong. I personally really don't see character abilities as an interesting addition and what really boggles my mind is how there is NO customization of powerup drops whatsoever and many powerups from the earlier games are missing entirely (wobbly bombs?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a very good game. Insane price. Emulate it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this game to play with my friends and that was a mistake. We cant even find each other's lobby. The network needs optimization. Waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't worry about old reviews. They devs don't care about this game and it will stay dead. Buy a classic bomberman for some real entertainment

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fine if you like single player, or if you have a friend to play co-op. hopefully they can grow an online community. but...online is not so great right now. fingers crossed - i love bomberman as a series, but can't recommend this one for online.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DONT LISTEN TO ALL THE BAD REVIEWS! JUST MAKE A FREE BATTLE LOBBY AND PLAY WITH 1 OR MORE FRIENDS ONLINE OR LOCALLY! REALLY REALLY FUN GAME! BUY THE GAME WHEN IT IS ON SALE!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Bomberman R: This game gets very mixed reviews. But i do not really get why... It is probably because of older versions of the game. The game runs at a consistent 60FPS on my computer and laptop. The story mode is fun to play through and they now even added a Grand Prix mode. The online is indeed dead but if you have some friends who want to buy the game as well Free play mode is really fun and the main reason i got the game, my friends can easily join my lobby by entering the code of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Single player levels are a slog to actually finish since you have to finish 10 levels and 2 bosses in the allowed # of lives (depending on difficulty). Multi-player is superseded by Super Bomberman R Online. So, not only did they manage to make single player not fun, they didn't fix the multi-player and managed to gut the title of any value after I gave them my money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, pity not enough players for online stuff nowadays so is dead. Needs a revive
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! This one is a serious pooper! I thought "Bomberman", nostalgia, great! Well, I refunded the pooper before even half an hour has passed. It's clunky as hell, weird camera-angles, and not at all the nostalgia i was looking for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saw the reviews, figured, let's try anyway. It appears to have less level and multiplayer features than Bomberman for Wii and the gameplay itself feels less responsive and levels looks duller, not as colorful and character movement feels off. Didn't like the feel and as such, it won't get more play time from me. Have played Bomberman a lot in the past and was looking forward to revisiting, but not like this. Starting story mode, it feels like most time and money has been spent on making story…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic bomberman is better, but this one is not bad
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Goe-Trivia #23 The character of Goemon Bomber debuted in Taisen! Bomberman, a mobile game released exclusively in Japan in 2016 that no longer exists. He would later reappear in Super Bomberman R, although redesigned.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is a travesty for connection issues, though SelenFPSVtuber saw me as a threat today so that was cool. 6/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good but not as good as the old Atomic Bomberman
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun story mode and Bomberman experience especially for those who played in the early days. However the game fall short with it's steep price and bad optimizations. Your remote play partner will lag during story mode, the servers can't handle online play and the voice acting could have used some work. Let's be honest this isn't the first time Konami has let anyone down, it won't be the last. Pros: - Good Co-op experience and decent party game for both teams and competitive play. - Fun…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a mixed review. I actually really like this game. It's alright, but overpriced. Buy it only when it's on sale. And if you have 2+ gamepads. Gameplay and graphics are fine. It lacks some basic quality of life features though, such as rebinding controls for example. QWERTZ layouts suffer from that, and while you can change your keyboard layout to QWERTY quite easily, it shouldn't be necessary. I recommend a gamepad until you can actually rebind controls, and if you want to play with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy hell! This is one of the best bomberman out there! Why does it have mixed reviews? I don't understand Pros: - It has a Story mode which can be played solo or 2 player local - Every character has a different personality - so they are not just a color - Voice acting - Maps are Unique - Lots of gamemods - Up to 8 players - No microtransactions (everything can be unlocked by ingame currency) - It can be played with AI Cons: - No players are playing this game :( - Expensive (Buy it on site…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Single player content is bare bones, and i really don't like the approach of the "cinematics". No one plays online. Only buy if you have local friends to play with or if it drops to like $5.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a good version of Bomberman. Slow, dull, very long script that is a bit too in love with itself. Most importantly, the odd camera angles make is surprisingly annoying to control. Almost anyone buying this game has already played many better versions of it. This feels VERY phoned in.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unplayable online
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#games #bomberman Today on games I love, Super Bomberman R. I've always known vaguely about Bomberman, but it's the first actual game I played… it's pretty fun AND funny, in a Saturday Morning Cartoon way. Phantom Bomber is a fav for obvious reasons. One minus. Elegant Dream. If you know, you know.
positive · AI labelView post →I can't quite recommend this Bomberman title. Bomberman hasn't changed it's formula too much in a long time, only changing the color paint that covers another layer of paint before it. Same old, same old. Doesn't matter if you're playing Bomberman back in 1983 or to current day, you're still getting a Bomberman experience. But I have to chalk Super Bomberman R as one of the weaker entries. I cannot get over the awkward diagonal view in the game play. Neither can I get over how bad of a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 3D environment doesn't really blend that well making it quite confusing to navigate it, and the gameplay can feel unecessary long when nothing much happens (Specially bosses). The voice acting is also kinda annoying but at least you can disable it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ever played any of the classic bomberman games, this is okay, it doesn't live up to what it could be though. Also make sure you get it on sale because 40 is just not worth it and this is coming from a big bomberman fan. Same typical bomberman mechanics. There's a typical campaign mode with a decent amount of worlds. Sometimes I find that the camera angle is a little weird on some levels but it's usually not an issue. Local multiplayer is incredibly fun (as it should be, its bomberman)! I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful. Multiplayer is just dumb to setup with a friend. Took my friend and I about 10 minutes on Discord to figure out how to play with each other. We finally figured it out, and then he got booted 3 minutes into the match. Asking for a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Prefer the bomberman in SEGA SATURN where you can ride the dino. The full price is not good for the amount of level it had.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, this game had it rough from the start with the online play being kinda dead and overall it wasn't that great of a deal, but hear me out. Steam Remote Play has breathed new life into this game- now you can remote play with friends over the internet, and only you have to own the game. That means the pretty great story mode, and fantastic party modes now have actual players whenever you want- and of course, playing local multiplayer is always a blast as well. But really- get some friends on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Local Co-op WORKS Out of the box Plug and play! Don't believe the hype. STEAM controller and Logitech Playstation 2 controller. I didn't have to set up any options. This game is Japanese & doesn't take to kindly to Xbox controllers. Controls feel spot on from SNES Super Bomber days. Had a great hour play session introducing my Girlfriend to a relic from childhood. The music is the usual cheese, as is the story, but it's funny and mocking the likes of Power Rangers, Ultraman, etc. so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Bomberman games out there and still better than all of the clones that have emerged on Steam. This is a well-rounded Bomberman with a co-op enabled classic style campaign featuring fully animated cutscenes and a classic multiplayer side mode featuring the standard array of items, customization options, and a ton of stages and other unlockables. Any items missing from the game can be found as the special abilities of the unique Bomber characters you can unlock and play as. It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, for the current price there is no way to recommend the game. If you want to try it, wait for a big promotion. As for the game, it's a shame the series has evolved into this. Bomberman has always been an iconic franchise, even with the games not as good on the PS1 as they were on the SNES. In Super Bomberman R, don't expect the same experience as the aforementioned SNES predecessors. Many mechanics were removed or had their customization reduced. You will start with very few…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stick to making Pachinko machines Konami, you are dead to the world at large! I was gifted this game by a friend on Humble Bundle, they were going for $15 a copy, and in the end, it was like throwing $30 in a fire. We got it for the sole purpose of being able to play a modern version of online multiplayer Bomberman. 4 of us tried to make a room to play online together, 2 Canadians and 2 Europeans, and the servers are just absolute trash, they may as well be non-existant. At best we could…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know about the rest of you but for me the online multiplayer aspect of Bomberman is the MAIN draw for me and this game has ZERO online members. The online play was SUPER buggy on launch and basically scared all players away. I would have returned the game but I kept it thinking they would repair the problems with online play which they either never did or took so long that no one wants to play this anymore. Biggest waste of $50 for a preorder I've ever made.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have IRL friends, you're gonna have a good time. Otherwise, sorry. Even with good online play, it'll never be the same.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The discounted price I bought this game at should be the actual price. There's just not enough content to warrant the $40 price tag.
