What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 84 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (109 of 203 positive).
Some players praise the classic Bomberman gameplay and recent updates that improved online modes. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the game as a repackaged version of the defunct free-to-play Bomberman R Online. [4][5][6] Several players report that online matchmaking is dead, often populated only by bots. [7][8][9]

Ok, I have changed my review to POSITIVE as Konami did listen to the community, they've released an update that adjusted online modes to a more sane model and now everything seems good to me (price is still a little high but at least now you get what's advertised). Good ole Bomberman, you love it or you LOVE it. I can't judge other modes (story, castle, crystals, grand prix) as I don't give a f'k but classic and …

The game is great and so far the game is very fun and I really enjoy it. Do note that I wasn't here for the release of the game so I didn't meet all the initial problems people had, but from what I read and experienced, it looks like Konami fixed most of the issues with the game. I only got it yesterday and played online for 4 hrs straight and I was able to face people online. It was mostly Korean and Japanese …

They took down the F2P Bomberman R Online and repackaged its content with barely anything new for $50. Took away the freedom of choice in the online multiplayer from the original R in favor of a rotation based ranked mode. No way to find and join private lobbies from within the game instead requiring a code. Also since there's no F2P option and Konami barely marketed the damn thing good luck ever finding a full …

Very disappointing. Story mode is boring. Online play never matches with anyone. Offline battle is good, but not going to keep you coming back for more and more. Overpriced even in the sale.

They deadass just took Super Bomberman R Online, which was an amazing free to play game they shut down, repackaged it for $50 with a stupid level editor. Even with crossplay, this game is so dead with only BOTs playing it. At least SBRO had actual players.
Summarised from 34 of the 181 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
45% of the 84 Steam reviewers we collected recommend SUPER BOMBERMAN R 2. The complaint that keeps coming up: game is overpriced for what it offers. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received "mixed or average" reviews according to the review aggregator website Metacritic. When previewing the game, Ian Higton writing for Eurogamer claimed the Battle 64 mode was too similar to justify the shutdown of Super Bomberman R Online. Upon its debut, the game was the best-selling new release behind Pikmin 4, selling a total of 11,588 copies. It remained among the top ten best-selling games for another week at the tenth position.

The synths are high energy, the guitar is shredding, and the drums are bumping! The buildup to the drop sounds so awesome, and all the instruments on this track mesh really well together! It's a bop!
positive · AI labelView post →This track is called "Btl Arr Bk King"! Super Bomberman R 2 was a cool game! The game took more of an exploration approach to the worlds, allowing the player to explore an open area before engaging in battles! The battles got intense at times, and the soundtrack was bumping! It was a fun time!
positive · AI labelView post →This track is called "Boss Robot"! Super Bomberman R was an awesome game! It was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo Switch, and it was a fun time! I enjoyed playing through the story and trying to do no-hit runs on expert difficulty 😊 it's sequel, Super Bomberman R 2, was a good time as well!
positive · AI labelView post →As a long time fan who has played Bomberman for over 25 years... wtf is this game? I almost want to say this game was falsely advertised. So many features made to sound better than they are. This game is just SBRO with extra features at a 50$ price tag. "All new story mode"... with 3 boring levels and lazy still frame cutscenes featuring bad voice overs. "Create your own maps"... only for castle mode AND using pre set templates only. "Couch multiplayer"... only with a few bland stages, no team…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a longtime fan of the franchise, I'm not sure if this the worst game in it's catalog, but it's certainly the one I dislike the most. I don't know where to begin with this game, game development is tough and I hate using this term because I understand things regarding it aren't so simple, especially with publishers and deadlines, but SBR2 feels worthy of the claim regardless, this is one of the laziest releases in a long time, and I'm positive the series niche status is the only reason why…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I do not absolutely hate what I've played so far, I don't think I can in good heart recommend this game. So basically this game compiles the three game modes seen in Super Bomberman R and the now defunct R Online, plus a new mode, Castle mode, exclusive to this game, and they're pretty lackluster compared to what other Bomberman games from the Hudson Soft era had to offer. Standard battle of course is simple by nature, as it always has been in prior titles, but here the stage and gimmicks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In terms of gameplay, graphics, music and story, the game is good, but playing online you will only find bots in the majority even with crossplay activated, the graded match pits newcomers against veterans, when it should be a mode for those who decide to compete, with another mode for casual players, the rotation of events in the graded mode is ridiculous, we can't even choose which stage we can play on. They didn't add new stages to the classic battle, they didn't add more louies, it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good grief Konami, if you're going to be this lazy with bomberman can you at least just port one of the good games for twenty bucks or something? I can't blame people in the slightest for not wanting to pick this up, for some reason they thought the rotating mode selection from splatoon would be a good idea when they don't even have a playerbase to fill the modes with. If what you want to play isn't up, too bad. Hated it in splatoon with salmon run and hate it here. Storymode is nothing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bro i gotta stop giving konami second chances because this game makes me immensely upset as a long time bomberman fan. The story mode is extremely grindy with no progression, the previous games especially in the HUDSONSOFT era had various fun locations to see and you would traverse worlds with powerups you would collect over time each with their own unique enemies. But here it's just 3 big flat, bland, worlds with 4 unique enemies per world (yes! really!). You collect exp to then level up to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I love the Bomberman series, it makes me sad to say this feels like another lazy entry that has such potential to be a good game. Starting off with the price... yikes. The price for this game as of reviewing is $49.99 when not on sale. I believe I bought it for $30 when on sale recently because I love the franchise regardless and want to support the devs whenever a Bomberman game comes out. However, I just can't recommend this game to somebody who isn't a Bomberman fanatic for either of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- No Steam Cloud means that coins, shop purchases, and profile customizations don't sync between my PC and Steam Deck. - The hourly mode rotation for online is annoying. I just want to play standard. I want to play Bomberman with online friends, but I simply cannot justify having them pony up $50 for what this game offers. I miss Super Bomberman R Online's price model where only one person needed to purchase the $10 premium pack to create a lobby and everyone else could join it for free. While…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Failed franchise ever since Hudson's end. No player base, 0 online gameplay happening. It's a bummer that kids these days won't have the opportunity to grow up with the fun exploding game that was Bomberman back then.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The online is dead. I do not know who the story mode is for. Very mind numbing, and when you finally get to do a castle, heavens forbid an ally wins because that means you actually lose and have to re-do the battle. I do not know who this game is for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible game. The free Battle 64 mode is locked behind this paywall now and it's littered with mostly bots if you're not in a server that populated. And you can't even change region servers after the 1st time. Don't see much replayability at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle 64 was (and is still) the only fun mode. The new ones are terrible. And because the 4 online modes rotate each hour..when you log in, you have a 25% chance of getting Battle 64. This is trash. But lets say you queue up anyway, which can take a couple minutes... Then you finally get to play, and its all bots. Its all bots. Nobody is playing this game because its 50 dollars. You paid 50 dollars to play "online" with bots.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looking past the online timed rotations and lack of public lobbies, the story isn't that great either. I did a 100% completion and man it was a let down compared to the first Bomberman R in terms of gameplay. TL:DR, story is a grindfest and repetitive with forgettable boss fights. The story itself is basically on par with the first game, but the gameplay gets way too repetitive and grindy. Instead of collecting power-ups on a board, you collect experience and level up which gives you your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not traditional Bomberman. I grew up playing Bomberman on SNES, Turbografx-16, Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, etc. I've played a lot of Bomberman and I'm one of the few who play Bomberman for the single player experience. I like the individual levels, powering up, meeting the goal, getting too powerful, blowing myself up, eventually fight a boss and then move to next world system. This is not that. This you have a base that you have to build, worlds to explore for the purpose of building…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Update: I still really wish I could refund this game one day, it is just completely dead. I would have been playing SBRO if that part was not locked behind the 50$ paywall.) Honestly, I was really looking foward to being able to play Battle 64 again, so I bought this 50$ game (Not worth the price) and im actually really disappointed. It is near impossible to actually find real players in the gamemodes, as they are all just bots. Konami really needs to add an option to ONLY search for real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did you know Konami made a sequel to Suikoden II? It was called Super Bomberman R 2 and features the Hero and Luca Blight as playable characters!
neutral · AI labelView post →So, you can't actually play classic bomberman mode with items, against random people online. You can only play the new modes, or ranked. Ranked is the most boring mode, where there are no softblocks or items, and you fight 1-vs-1 with nearly full bomb power in a square grid. This game is kinda useless. Hopefully more people go on R 1's online now that this one stinks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this on 40% sale. The single player story is immediately soporific. The battle mode is really no better than free fan recreations of the original games. It's too expensive for what it is, considering there is a lot of boring content. I also am less of a fan of the 3D art style compared to the classic pixel art. Big thumbs down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the story is well quite short being 3 long levels, like yes there are 15 zones per world but like i said it's really just 3 big levels with mild backtracking not that you really need to much but feels disappointing and the music barely changed between the later zones of the levels and there are only 5 enemies at most with re-skins and for the boss fights well bomberman's bosses have never been hard but they still felt super easy that you don't really need to try. It just felt lacking to what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wait for a sale if you really want it. The game is too expensive for what it is. It should be around half the price at best. Assets are mostly recycled from previous couple of iterations which is fine but then why omit things and not include the rest? There are playable characters from previous games that aren't in this one for example. I've only been able to play against bots online so can't comment on how well it really works. Story mode is more boring than before. The new Castle mode tries…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worse in every way than Super Bomberman R Online as a competitive game. There are four competitive modes. 2 of those modes are complete ass. 1 of those modes is mostly ass due to god awful maps with seemingly no map rotation. the last mode is Battle 64, which is the only actually %100 good mode. But you're only allowed to play two modes at a time, and the modes rotate every hour AND the mode you get is random. So if you just wanted to play regular bomberman during the two hours you have…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still not as good as Bomberman '94. They finally updated this game. Konami is breaking new grounds by letting you pick which game mode you want to play! But too little, too late. This game is dead. You're MUCH better off playing Bomberman '94 / Saturn Bomberman / Power Bomberman.

They added the new modes which is fine, I find them boring and awful but whatever. But then you are FORCED to play them in the battle mode rotation. Unforgivable. Refunded.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Multiplayer is a ghost town, never found a match. Story mode is just bad. PvE is not as fun as I'd hoped. It's just not as good as classic Bomberman. I gave it a try on sale at $25 and TBH I'd only have kept it at $5 or less.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is such a disappointing sequel. While somethings here are better than the original (better PC port, better online), most other aspects are about the same as the OG or worst. Heck, this game is missing a whole stage from Super Bomberman R Online! There are less characters than the original, less stages than the original, local play feels way worst to set up in comparison to the original, the story mode feels way too boring and is less replayable than the original's (along side lacking…

The idea is that you organically learn how to play across the course of the single-player game (and the game does a good job of teaching this), and then take those skills to the battlefield after that. Indeed, Battle Mode takes up more space on…
