What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 198 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,871 of 4,536 positive).
Players praise the game's immersive survival mechanics and unique time-skip crafting system. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note bugs and crashes that can break the experience. [4][5] The game is seen as a solid survival title with a compelling story and exploration. [2][6][7]

Great at first, but with catastrophic game design decisions in every mechanic Survival: Fountain of Youth made a really good first impression on me. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere works, exploration is rewarding and the whole castaway fantasy is genuinely well done. The first hours are great: finding water and shelter, crafting your first tools and slowly learning how to survive is very satisfying. For …

Caribbean Durability Simulator. Don't get me wrong, I like this game. One of the best single player immersive survival, base building, and adventuring games around. It's too bad it didn't get more visibility. It has a unique crafting mechanic where there's a "time passing" element. So basically everything you do takes time. If you want to craft a knife, it might take 20 minutes or so. If you want to turn your …

Survival: Fountain of Youth — A Sleeper Hit Worth Discovering TL;DR: If you enjoy classic survival mechanics with a unique 16th-century explorer theme and don’t mind a few indie rough edges, this game is absolutely worth your time. Full Review: Survival: Fountain of Youth is a sleeper-hit survival game that I somehow missed until recently. I’m a big fan of Green Hell and Stranded Deep, and I’ve been looking for …

When I booted up Survival: Fountain of Youth, it had that style that made me a bit wary of it potentially being one of those janky indy games. But I’m happy to say that, while its not perfect by any stretch, the game is solid enough for me to have put 80 hours into it and enjoyed the trip all the way through. That’s not to say the has no jank, quite the contrary, but its got plenty of polish and a gameplay loop …

Took a few attempts over the last couple of years for this one to click with me, but once it did I thoroughly enjoyed it. The way it handles time is a little odd to get used to, and there's some jank here and there with various things, but overall this is an incredible enjoyable survival game. A special note here is that I think this is one of the best integrations of a narrative as motivation in a survival game. …

neutral · AI labelView post →I think Silver Pines might be the best Survival Horror game this year, I already had pretty high expectations off the back of that demo, but the full game has surpassed them. I do want to finish the game on stream before I give it the official thumbs up, but honestly? Hop on and don't wait for me.

positive · AI labelView post →Bare in mind i haven't played for a long time, but coming from other crafting survival it lacks in the interaction part. I am sure this will hit the spot for some players, but it didn't for me. The main issue i have with the game is purely because everything is done through menues. What I mean is, cutting down a tree is done by going up to the tree, opening a menu, pressing a button and the tree falls. I breaks the immersion of the game to the point where half of the game is a menu. If you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The time skip mechanic is tolerable for some things even trees, but having to skip 45 minutes to cook something in the fire instead of doing chores around the base or cutting wood while the food cooks is unacceptable. Most of these things should be simulated. At least have a shoddy icon and timer like the forest does, but preventing me from doing anything else for 45 minutes, as if the character would spend all that time staring at the fire while the food cooks is lazy design and makes no sense.

(Yes I know everything here can be looked up but a bit of discussion churn is nice) I’m just about wrapping my head around the different versions now. The Anniversary Edition doesn’t appeal to me at all and I don’t really want to buy it, but I’m surprised that some mods seemingly require it as a dependency. Do I need that? Robbery.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Do I want to enjoy this game? YES! Am i enjoying it? Somewhat. The game itself is fine but there is a game-breaking bug since launch that they refuse to fix and occurs way to often. This bug is where when you are building or crafter your character has a chance to hurt themselves and if they do the UI/Character locks up preventing you from doing anything while the game is clearly progressing in the background with time passing and the stat meters dropping, This has been reported repeatedly by…

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to like this game. I really do. But there is so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ artificial difficulty. Gimmick after gimmick designed to get in your way every 30 seconds. Constant pest attacks interrupting what you are trying to do, forcing you to start whatever task you were trying to do all over again. Equipment degradation system is a hassle to deal with and eventually makes your hard to make equipment useless making you spend an hour+ (real time, not game time) just to remake it. So. Many. Crafting.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed what I played at first, but I can’t recommend it in its current state. I was actually having a good time with Survival: Fountain of Youth during the little time I got to play, but the game has become completely unplayable because of a bug. Every single time I try to use a bandage, the game crashes without fail. It happens 100% of the time, so I’m basically stuck and can’t continue playing normally. It’s frustrating because I did enjoy the game, but a game-breaking bug like this ruins…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is just...not very good. Animals are extremely plentiful and hostile, and the "combat" is terribly dull and repetitive. Lots of semi-arbitrary injuries and conditions impact gameplay. Tools and equipment degrade rapidly. All of the survival aspects are exceedingly grindy and tedious. The story might be somewhat interesting, if it weren't so sparse and hard to reach. Not enough people play the game to have any sort of knowledge base available online. If there were any kind of library…

neutral · AI labelView post →In the year of our lord 2026 (or thereabouts), the Survival: Fountain of Youth developers decided to protect their single-player game from its own customers. The only thing a mod can do in this game is help a paying customer enjoy it longer. The developers examined this situation and wrote code to stop it. I want to be fair: maintaining a mod-blocking system takes real effort. Effort that could have gone toward new content, or the accessibility toggle players have politely requested for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game to the end, but I can only recommend it to a limited extent. For absolute survival fans, it will probably be okay. People who only play this genre occasionally will despair here. The story is mediocre, the combat system is absolutely terrible, and the worst part is the crafting system. I personally do not recommend it.

neutral · AI labelView post →So I recommended this game, but I hope they will change what I put in here and make it a really good game. I've played this through a few times, and its usually a year or two between each playing. But just finished it I think for the 3rd time, can't remember. But I usually get to towards the end, knowing there was something that made me stop playing this game, but its mostly pretty good. Then it hits me. After I make the Ark I remember that it is slower than the other ships. Or at least a…

I am a survival enthusiast and I have been keeping an eye out for a game that has realistic survival scenarios but that isn't overly complicated. So let me tell you about the snake. There are other things that make this game awesome, but this one is the best example: I was at half-health, and desperately trying to find sticks so I could make a fire so I could make some food. I see something in the grass and think "oh, that could…

Once memorized, you can harvest a tree in a second, making it instant resource gathering. But the tree or bush still looks untouched, and you wait 30 days for refresh. In 7 Days to Die it takes ~10 seconds to chop a tree; here it’s instant, but buried in menus. I was hoping for realistic survival like Valheim, Green Hell, or The Forest, but instead it’s menus…
