Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 78 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (118 of 145 positive).
Some find the game repetitive and shallow, with a lack of enemy variety. [1][2][3]

repetitive. shallower than it looks. +voice effects -few cards. similar cards every encounter. -encounters feel too long. -slow-paced.

EDIT: since posting this review, a lot of the criticism I had has been addressed and fixed by the developer. The game was already good but now it's shaping up to be amazing! Great work! TL;DR good space card game. Strange mix of deckbuilding and Faster Than Light visuals. Good atmosphere. Great music. Some bugs and a few questionable design decisions. Terrible English voice acting. Yes, overall I recommend the game …

The visuals are stunning, the sound design is very rewarding. It's a game with personality and it doesn't feel like something you played before. I was playing looking forward as much for the jumps and the action as I was looking forward to see the interactions that would happen when I would hit the com button. Had a great time on my first playthrough and couldn't stop until I bet too high on my luck and lost my …

Great game! Pure heart and vision. You can see the inspirations the world and gameplay draws from, but it never feels derivative. The visual design, SFX, and soundtrack are wonderful. I also really love the narration—it gives a sense of radio chatter you pick up while lost and lonely in space, but the space chatter also happens to be a regular guy who wants to be your DM. Very fun. I'm personally not a big …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: addictive gameplay, cosmos atmosphere, there is a story, comic book style cons: complexity and a lot of effects, I'm not epileptic, but even my eyes hurt. I can't play the game for a long time.

neutral · AI labelView post →"Not Quite the Adventure I Hoped For." Takara Cards makes a fantastic first impression. The visuals are vibrant and expertly crafted, with a style that immediately draws you in. Every area feels alive and thoughtfully designed. On top of that, the music pairs perfectly with the aesthetic, creating a really distinct vibe that makes the game feel special from the moment you hit “Start.” At first, the mechanics seemed deep and promising. The card-based movement across a grid is a clever idea,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have had a conflicted time with Takara Cards. I really enjoy the atmosphere and world the game sets up, and the mechanical foundations of the game are very solid. However, the game gets to be extremely repetitive extremely quickly. There is a distinct lack of enemy and encounter diversity, and it leads to the game feeling stale overtime. I would love to see some new enemy types and obstacles with different drawbacks / rewards. When I got to my act 2 boss and it was the same as the act 1…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm still honestly a little confused about where I stand with regards to Takara Cards. On the one hand, the game has a few positives- I love the art, adore the music, the gameplay is really entertaining but simple- I think, for a roguelike, it has a lot of potential. The lore is also really interesting, I like the usage of standard fantasy races and I like the way that it portrays it's world. You can tell a lot of love and care went into the game. The core of what's here is really good and I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this game based on the store description, looking forward to a deckbuilding RPG. Should have checked the tags more carefully because the roguelike I got is both familiar and disappointing. The mechanics feel shallow and at times frustrating. The draw of a roguelike is usually being able to replay with varying builds and options, but I never felt like the cards in my deck changed my general strategy and usually just wished I had more consistent options. The loss of cards to extreme…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a early access review You can feel the FTL/Slay the Spire DNA running through its veins in this very interesting card/roguelite/puzzle(?) game. Its sorta of a next step from the formula created in NEXT JUMP:Shmup Tactics, Post Mortem Pixels previous game. There is a lot of cool mechanics that make each playthrough very unique and rewarding, from the various classes and the Karma system which grants you various buffs and debuffs as you go along the jumps. But the bulk of the gameplay…

neutral · AI labelView post →Important note: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3441540/Takara_Cards_Academy/ There's a free "prologue" available (you probably know this type of demo by now) Stealth sequel to critically underappreciated "NEXT JUMP: Shmup Tactics" Both are turn-based Shmups, but while NJST was much more of an FTL-like with its fairly fixed stable of ship and equipment-defined moves, TC is entirely card-based: Yes even the traditional Ship Equipment, available every turn, is served in the form of cards!…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game for anyone who loves collectible card games. The variety of cards and the exciting gameplay make the player come back to the game again and again. Lots of interesting cards.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a delightful mix of strategy and creativity! Building decks while exploring the cosmos is incredibly fun, and the unique characters add so much depth. Every playthrough feels fresh!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SERIOUS Toonami Vibes. The art direction in this game is seriously stellar. As for the gameplay itself, it gives me an expertly polished Triple Triad feeling with a very addictive survival loop in between Jumps. This game is a gem of posh-nostalgic sensibilities with pitch perfect execution. If you understand the vision, you will see how precisely they nailed every detail. I am super stoked to add this to my slow-workday routine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you might forget it's a roguelite while playing cause it's got big rpg heart packed into it. the visuals are straight up galactic neon vibes and I adore it. the game is minimalist where it needs to be and oozes style all from the cockpit of your very own spaceship. Give this one a shot Cadet!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This does not feel like a deckbuilder. And the overall feel of the game is not good. The tag and the reviews deceived me hard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you missed it,Takara Cards is released now! It's a great game, go check it out! Also made in Godot
positive · AI labelView post →Its fun, but too short, too easy (you get a lot of redoes and ways of getting out of situations where you should die), and still has a few (minor bugs (you can alt f4 at any time and loose no progress so no issue really)). Overall fun... oh and by the by my first six hours of playtime (and what im basing this review on) was only my first run...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for over an hour without enjoying any of it. Combat is way too simple and the rest of the game is not very well explained. Not sure what the overall motivation is to play. You toss your ship around a 3 x 3 grid for some reason to crash into other "enemies" with your shields to destroy them. There are attacks but it seems more geared to just using your ship to smash into things. I purposely destroyed my ship to see the outcome and it gives you an SOS ship to continue play. Um, no thanks,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a fan of deck building, roguelike games, and this one has it all. Some mechanics are not clear at first but over time, I got the hang of the game. In short, you have to try and kill all enemies on screen, while taking into account that new ones will spawn from the top and the existing ones will move. I sometimes got lost finding out what enemies would do, so the UI could use some improvement. Bear in mind this is an early access game, so I am looking forward for the new races and better…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there are so many deck builders out there, and there are so many not worth your time...; this one is tho.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EVERYTHING is very specific. There is no throw away cards really. Builds cannot be broken, tough. I yet to find something where I wasn't on the edge of my seat. This also makes it hard to describe. It is a PERFECT game just to throw at yourself at, without goals. Just play and spend some time with a fun stuff. Thats it for me and should be enough for anyone, especially for this price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing game! Greta art, solid music and a game play loop that keeps me coming back.

neutral · AI labelView post →What a delight! Quirly and unique roguelite deckbuilder. It has charm, and the bad stuff you might find is charming (like the voice acing). It's not the best but it strangely works. I would certainly suggest taking a look at this one. Check Out Our YouTube channel for more: https://www.youtube.com/@thestrategyinformer

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi (and thanks Rami!), I'm Filipe Dilly, a 40-year-old Brazilian game designer. I have been making games for the past ten years under the label "Post Mortem Pixels". 💙 My latest game is Takara Cards: store.steampowered.com/app/1932210/...
neutral · AI labelView post →Really great production values and some super interesting gameplay ideas! The movement puzzles the game creates are really interesting and moreish, and I can definitely recommend it if you're looking for a slightly thinkier puzzly roguelike :) Some feedback though - with how incredible the game looks and feels, the more amateurish voice acting felt super jarring and I never got very used to it. More than that though, I can't wait for some more quality of life patches to the game. I think the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a bit of a gamble for me, as deckbuilders aren't my forte. I like Slay The Spire well enough but deckbuilding just doesn't come as naturally to me as it does to some of my friends. Still, the interactive narrative elements of Takara Cards intrigued me enough to check it out. The art style is gorgeous and the music suits it well. There's a nice mix of heavyset dwarven avatar designs, with some diversity in skin tone and gender presentation. Despite the core focus on strategy, I had…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Takara Cards is a single player roguelike card battler experience where the visuals of the game are stunning and I like the card design of the game. It is bright and has some personality to it, perfectly blends in with the whole space theme without looking too generic. The sound design of the game is amazing as well and I absolutely love the snapping sound whenever you travel in and out of a space sector. Takara Cards is a challenging card game to play, but it is a fun and refreshing take on a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is sweet, simple but challenging gameplay. A recommend. Takara Cards does many things right. This is a simple card battle in a grid-based battlefield. There are many things could influence your card, like karma and equipment so even with the same card it could give you different result based on RNG. You improve your karma by interacting with the world at each stop after each battle. Each starting race also offers unique playstyle so if you get bore in 1 character you could create…

neutral · AI labelView post →Hi, how do you switch languages in the game? I can't seem to switch it... "I have to give a shout-out to the dev team for being so responsive to player feedback. It's clear they really care about the game and the community. They've been actively listening to suggestions and implementing changes, which is awesome to see. Keep up the great work!"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I liked the game. It has a very unusual plot and cool graphics. But that's not all the advantages. The gameplay is exciting and not boring, unlike many games now. I'm happy with everything and boldly give this game a plus rating.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi Andy! I'm finishing a deeply puzzly card game, Takara Cards: store.steampowered.com/app/1932210/...
neutral · AI labelView post →Complex, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played anything like this one, it's a very clever use of cards positioning and random events, that keeps every turn fresh and challenging. The text is especially amazing (at least in PT-BR)! Although it's in early access, there's already a lot to explore, and you'll want to explore, because the loop is very addictive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fascinating game, lots of promise.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everything feels so good: Sound and music, UI, animations, writing, fun and challenging strategic card combat, deckbuilding, etc... all of it feels well thought out and cohesive, it really comes together to create a beautiful universe
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool game. It has intuitive controls, which makes it easy to play. The art is wonderful: drawings, animations, VFX, everything. Sincerely it is not the type of game I used to play, but it made me review my choices. I highly recommend this game. Give it a try, it has a fair price and you will love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good. Lots of fun cards and events. The art is different and cartoon based. A very fun indie game indeed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Takara Cards is a nice twist to turn-based card games, in which learning where to best position your ship and watch out for your resources influences heavily on your decisions. Although it's focus revolves on tactical combat, the game also look alive between jumps as random events pop up here and there and the player can choose between a range of options - and your choices will have consequences! Despite being an early access game it already offers a lot of content as it is, and it you like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love the snap and clickyness of the ui, great for that alone with the cute painted style for characters + actually having ones that arent exclusively skinny for the player character is great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an awesome turn base card game in the best veins of Slay the Spire, Inscription and Card Crawler Adventure. Really fun to play I can't wait for the release of the other races :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Takara Cards is a stylish and ambitious blend of deck-building, grid-based tactics, and roguelike exploration, wrapped in a pulpy space-fantasy universe that immediately sets it apart from more traditional card battlers. The game begins with you choosing a Cadet from one of four races—Humans, Elves, Dwarves, or Orks—each piloting their own ship and bringing distinct personality and strategic nuances to a run. From there, the adventure takes shape as you travel through procedurally generated…

neutral · AI labelView post →Unhelpful UI, unfun gameplay
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No exposition, the training takes you straight into the map with your ship on it. It doesn't really explain what will happen each round, what you should aim to do, what the enemies are. Throws you in at the deep end, but doesn't give you any reason to keep going. I got bored before I finished the tutorial. Feels unfinished. The ratings tricked me, hopefully this negative will redress the balance a bit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting and cool!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi! Game designer and dev from Brazil! Made three games already, including soon to be released Takara Cards: store.steampowered.com/app/1932210/... I would love to be on the list! :)
neutral · AI labelView post →Takara Cards is a fun space-themed game, but with cards. The gameplay is intuitive, but offers enough depth to keep even experienced players engaged. Players can employ a variety of strategies and playstyles, allowing each game to feel fresh and dynamic. And nice graphics in neon colors and a cool soundtrack will make your time spent enjoyable. Whether you’re a casual player or a card game enthusiast, Takara Cards is worth diving into for its charm, strategy, and interesting lore. If you…
