Many players love the board game adaptation but report persistent bugs. [1][2][3] Some reviewers praise the solo mode and AI, while others find it too easy. [4][5][6] Several players complain about broken multiplayer and DLC issues. [7][8][9]

Online servers have been down for at least 4 days at this point. I'll be refunding this unplayable mess.

Devs have chosen to deactivate your purchased DLC if you dare to play offline & not logged in to Asmodee account. So you now cant use your paid product on the move for example on a laptop unless you hotspot your phone. Terrible service and just an overall bad taste left in the mouth. Latest update of the app also simply doesnt work half the time, the store page being a glaring example where the store page just gets …

One of my favorite games, but PLEASE fix the bugs. It's been months of it only sometimes accurately counting the tags I play. And it's so easy for people to karma-farm by simply not playing and forcing you to forfeit. The karma system can just be eliminated....

My favorite board game ported to Steam! If you have ever played Terraforming Mars and enjoyed it, then this is for you. The ability to not only play online but also solo has caused my hours on this game to rise exponentially. Yes, the dlc is something you have to pay for, but the wonderful implementation and the genuinely amazing developer team is far worth the price. That, and this game just keeps getting more dlc …

I'm like "I need solutions to generate power" and my entire science team are "Hey I just invented a tardigrade."
neutral · AI labelView post →How do you deal with the situation where you are invited to play a game, only to find it's wildly complex and takes 4 hours to finish, and you find yourself not wanting to play it within minute 5?. This has happened to me a few times. One I remember was the game Alchemist, where I just sat there confused as hell for 4 and a half hours while three guys were all talking about strategies. Tonight it was Terraforming Mars, where I was told it would be a 3 hour game, but by hour 4 we were halfway…
neutral · AI labelView post →So yesterday tried Harmonies again--highly recommended for a quick game good for 2-4--and tackled a long game of Terraforming Mars, which I had not tried. As good as its reputation.
positive · AI labelView post →Still thinking about a major hobbyist game like Terraforming Mars using AI art for their new release. It just devalues the whole industry. Here we are trying to make art and they're just like "Gobble this up, piggies. Eat your slop."
negative · AI labelView post →Remarkable how quietly everyone in this industry excuses Terraforming Mars. Even in offline spaces, people get very uncomfortable if anyone brings up the horrible things people behind this game have said.
negative · AI labelView post →Tonight I won at the board game Terraforming Mars. This doesn’t happen very often, but I still have a better success rate at my virtual attempts than the 0% chance Space X and their god-king will have of their attempts at the real thing. Anyway, it’s a good game that I have never seen explode.
positive · AI labelView post →First time I played DAYBREAK (by the incomparable Matt Leacock and promising newcomer Matteo Menapace) I finished with “this is the game I wanted Terraforming Mars to be” It’s fantastic, feels amazing to win, fosters values camaraderie like no coop board game I’ve seen And made by good people
negative · AI labelView post →I have a policy where I don’t talk badly about other published games It’s a good policy and I stand by it Terraforming Mars is a shit game by shit people Policy intact
negative · AI labelView post →A teenager (17?) is navigating the footpath with admirable swagger. He's got the sideways baseball cap. The low-slung jeans. The neatly ironed 2Pac T-shirt and a clank of silver chains. He veers into a toy shop and heads for the board game section. Terraforming Mars is where it's at. (4)
neutral · AI labelView post →Played another recent euro darling today: 2024's SETI. Very similar in concept and theme to Terraforming Mars (and complexity, but only compared to Mars with several expansions). 10/10 on aesthetics, I love the spinning solar system board.
positive · AI labelView post →Daybreak is a phenomenal game, I can’t recommend it enough!!! I also just love cooperative games. Fun fact: Terraforming Mars is supposed to model capitalist competitive space race, but if you discard the aggressive stuff & play coop you terraform Mars better & faster & make more helpful techs. 🤔
neutral · AI labelView post →/c/BoardGameArena is all about the freemium website with dozens of free board games to learn and play online. It has classics from Backgammon (and its multiplayer equivalent, Ludo) to Terraforming Mars and up to modern titles released this year. Many are totally free to play with just an account. Some are paywalled behind premium access, but you only need one person at the table with a premium subscription to start the game, and then everyone else can participate for free. You can play in real…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely not surprised that Terraforming Mars is now using AI (stands for "art infringment) software to create their game. Always been the company and the brand that was on the bleeding edge of the zeitgeist.

neutral · AI labelView post →What upsets me most about Terraforming Mars using AI art is that it's an established game with millions sold (or at least a lot). They've made money, this isn't some struggling indie trying to afford to make a first game look better. They could afford any artist, they just chose to save a few quid
negative · AI labelView post →Fourteen in attendance over the evening at Glasgow Phoenix. Traitor's Toll, Terraforming Mars, Chain of Command 2 and my own hosted game of Xenos Rampant: Vietnam. Which I failed to take pics of!

neutral · AI labelView post →Purchased only the base game, refunded at 1.5 hours into my first game. I love the board game and play with several expansions. I read the reviews but I figured "yeah I know, bugs, everyone always says that about board game conversions. I just want to play the base game, solo, to scratch the itch. What could go wrong? How bad can it be? People like to ♥♥♥♥♥..." Yeah, I was way wrong. I can't 'spend' microcrobes to gain TR. I can only add microbes to the card. I tried everything, then searched…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several of the tutorials are totally broken, softlocking the game. Another gave wrong info, thinking there was already an ocean on the board. It's a shame because this could be a great game but I can't recommend it in this state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fifteen in attendance at Glasgow Phoenix tonight. 300, Terraforming Mars boardgames. ECW variant of Bataille Empire, Chain of Command, Mordheim(!) and the prettiest game - mine of course - Vietnam using of all things Xenos Rampant. After two attempts, it is working shockingly well.

neutral · AI labelView post →I spent some time this new year season playing the mobile app of Terraforming Mars. I have always struggled with this game but thoroughly enjoyed it. I decided to play through some games of Ares Expedition. I had never beaten the base solo game, until today. Finally! #boardgames
positive · AI labelView post →Mostly Terraforming Mars and Go (an old Chinese game).
neutral · AI labelView post →Keeping the board game theme of my last post going. Here's some custom art I was commissioned to make for some board games. These are from 2021, but still really like them Games are Castle of Burgundy, Catan, Terra Mystica and Terraforming Mars. More info in the alt text
neutral · AI labelView post →Just had a game of Terraforming Mars end with scores of 100, 98, and 91. Holy hell, I played my heart out and came in solid last lol. I've never played a game that scored this high. 😅
neutral · AI labelView post →More stolen vibe-coded games I’ve discovered this morning on the “in-development” section of their website I’ll need more help figuring out what each of these games are. I see Terraforming Mars, Azul, Gloomhaven @cephalofairgames.bsky.social, and Pandemic as obvious ones.
neutral · AI labelView post →I've loved playing this game multiplayer for years.... up until several months ago. Now the last 5 multiplayer games have all crashed within one or two turns of the end of the game. None of us are playing with Colonies so it can't be that. I never post or review but guys whatever you've done to this game has made it unplayable multiplayer. Such a shame, one of my top 3 games now ruined. We left it a few months because we figured they would've fixed it by now but clearly not going to happen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Laughing because I've spent a chunk of the last few weeks turning this list into game mechanics in Terraforming Mars.

neutral · AI labelView post →This game has had bugs since it was launched, but the current set of bugs is the worst. The game will randomly hang and need to be force quit. Or, the AI will get stuck or it will get into some other buggy state where the only way to resolve it is to exit the game and try to rejoin. That used to work reliably, but for the last 4-5 months it's had a bug where the resuming / reloading of a game hangs. The progress meter during loading will get to somewhere between 95-100% and just sit there,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is incredibly buggy. New content often becomes unplayable, for example, fonts jump off the cards. Along with new DLC, the old ones have been locked, and even if you own them, you can't use them. Bug fixes are very slow. As a board game, it's great. It's only worth considering here if it's heavily discounted. And can I not have solar phase obligatory? Now it cannot be turned off in the options - only the choice of whether you want it with or without Venus.

neutral · AI labelView post →Fantastic board game turned into a so-so computer game. The interface is clumsy. Even the hardest AI opponents are way too easy, and online is unreliable and buggy. Timer keeps going even when it's not your turn - and when your time is out the game just chucks you back into the menu screen. What a wasted opportunity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →217th game of 2026 is "Terraforming Mars: Ares Project" by @strongholdgames.bsky.social with @kbowenwriter.bsky.social - we really like this action-following take on the OG.
positive · AI labelView post →The Automa expansion for the Terraforming Mars #boardgames is excellent… and plays you (and the board) in ways that feel “real”. Here’s the end of my loss last night - Terra Cimmeria map with Prelude & Venus Next.
positive · AI labelView post →After 47 hours of playing I've switched to BGA. The bugs copmpletely ruin this game to the point of making it unplayable as a competetive format. You will lose a lot of games to bugs. I would recommend anyone who wants to play Terraforming Mars online go to Board Game Arena. Its free to play and works perfectly.
