Players widely agree the vanilla game is a poor VR port, requiring mods to be enjoyable. [1][2][3][4] With mods, many call it one of the best VR experiences, praising immersion and interactivity. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers criticize the full price and Bethesda's lack of effort, calling it a cash grab. [1][5][6][7]

Bethesda owes Skyrim VR’s mod authors an enormous debt. On its own, the game feels like a lazy VR port, with awkward integration and design choices that make the experience frustrating and, at times, almost unplayable. I tried playing without mods, but it felt worse and far more restrictive than the standard non VR version. After installing the Mad God Overhaul modlist, which contains nearly 2,000 mods, the …

Lots of fun, but agree with everyone else. Modding is a must. Plus $60 for a game that came out 15 years ago is absurd. Do not buy this at full price and without the intention of modding. Would give a positive rating if the price wasn't absurd.

Runs flawlessly on my AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GDDR7… smooth frame rates… zero stutter… everything just feels seamless. Stepping into Skyrim in VR… it’s something else… the mountains, the dragons, the sound of the wind… it actually feels like you’re there. Combat feels great… magic casting is super satisfying… even just walking through Whiterun is a whole new experience. If you’ve got the …

Not so great if you play it vanilla, but it is increadible with mods. So many mods. I recommend HIGGS, PLANCK, VRIKs, Spell Wheel VR, Sunhelm Survival, Auto Sneak And Jump, and their requirements as a good starting setup. These will give you a full body avatar instead of just floating hands and will add in physics collisions and interactability thats lacking in vanilla. Tired of those chickens ratting you out to the …

This game is my home away from home 💙
positive · AI labelView post →Wanted to give the unmodded experience a try and my god, you can't even get past the character creator because there's no virtual keyboard. Basically forced to mod this game for it to literally be playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game...once modded. This shouldn't be necessary. Be better Bethesda.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →60 bucks for a game that does not have working controllers by default is a f*cking scam. Everything has to modded for the game in order to be good, first then can you fully enjoy it. Shame on you Bethesda! I want to give it a thumbs up, but the developers ignorance and greed stops me from doing it. All hail the modders who made this game actually playable, you make the world a better place!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shouldn't have to mod your game to an insane degree to get an actual VR game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended only if you're willing to install mods. By itself it is very boring due to the severe lack of interactivity and underutilization of VR controls. But with mods like HIGGS, PLANCK, VRIK and Conduit, it's a lot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was like, this game can't be THAT bad without mods. Well, its literally unplayable. Whoever QAed this game and programmed it should be fired. Bethesda should be ashamed of releasing hot garbage trash like this. 0/10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game ! But as all Bethesda games, you'll need 1000+ mods to have a playable game and a pleasant experience. I highly recommend the MadGod overhaul modlist

Also the whole modding community is extremely helpful and there are solutions for EVERYTHING, these guys restored my faith in humanity.

This one is Sonnet 106 by Shakespeare as read by @reticentduet.onceuponawasteland.com and I loved creating it 💜 #Skyrim #Poetry
positive · AI labelView post →A very happy 13th birthday to my beloved comfort game, The Elder Scrolls V: #Skyrim. 🎂
positive · AI labelView post →It is completely unacceptable for a $60 game to be unplayable in an unmodded form. Being unable to make it through the intro cutscene without the physics breaking is not an example of a good game. Base Skyrim costs less, works better, and has more content without even considering (unofficial) mods.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're going to commit to playing this in VR, you MUST mod the game to experience it at it's full potential. The vanilla version of Skyrim is rough but a good foundation for all the amazing modders out there to work their magic. You will NOT enjoy this game if you play the Vanilla VR port. Hence the mixed reviews, if everyone took their time to download and install a good mod pack before reviewing, this game would be a 11/10. If you have a lower end pc or just want to experience the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bar none the worst vr port for a game I have ever seen. I'm sad that I gave them my money for this cashgrab. That being said, if you want to repeat my mistake make sure you do some research and download the 50 required mods to make this playable. It gets really good with all the mods, however I cannot fathom releasing this game the way they did.

neutral · AI labelView post →Comes utterly broken out of the box. Requires a ton of modding to get it to be playable. What a nightmare. I just want to play. Shame on Bethesda. P.S. If you're left handed, expect a whole new layer of bs on top of everything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for much fun it is, its sad that i feel like giving a not reccomanded but here's why, this port is really fun most of the times and the setting works really well in vr, BUT base game is unpleyable, everything to the implementation of the vr mechanics to the graphics, everything is either borken or unexistent, mod fixes everything most of the time but sice im revewing the base game, it's a bug nuh uh, if u wanna buy get ready to spend a few days looking for an installing mods, bad port, W…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →idek what to say about this. i have loved skyrim for my entire life and when the vr edition was finally on sale i was ecstatic. and then i played it. this is without a doubt the absolute worst vr experience i have ever played. the controls feel absolutely horrible and random, the motion sickness filter by default takes up half the screen, the cuscenes just teleport you to the end location, and dont even get me started on the lack of being able to use your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hands in a VR game. the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy, install, play....urg, this game is crap. Look youtube video, learn about modlist, make my own modlist, crash my own modlist, balance 2000+ mod over thousand of hour of study and testing...best game ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool to try it out in VR but it feels like a cheap money grab from Bethesda rather than a proper VR edition, this is a game with outdated graphics and bare minimum of built in VR interactions, without mods it feels pretty bland, and mod installation process is not very smooth. I think it's only worth to get it on a sale, people on reddit joke that you spend more time on mods installation rather than on playing the game and I guess it's kinda true
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just bad without mods. To interact with anything that is inside the world of Skyrim you have to download mods otherwise you can't. You don't even get to have a body! Just two floating hands in the air. I'm giving it a thumbs only because of I have mods downloaded otherwise it is just pure garbage
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →> Requires 200+Gb of mods just too be enjoyable > Most modpacks are outdated or barely working > Hell, look at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trailer not even the guy playing it for the trailer looks like they were waving fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TO ANYONE WHO SEES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not play this game without mods. The vanilla experience is not great but with the FUS mod pack it becomes one of the best vr games to every exist maybe even the best. There are other great mod packs but I recommend FUS because it gives the vanilla experience with improved visuals and VR gameplay mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally unplayable. Fresh install no mods, the intro bugs out, horses and carts flying everywhere and dying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim! That game just clicked with me at every level- the hype, the release, and just losing myself in that world.
positive · AI labelView post →Downright horrible without mods. An overt cash-grab form Bethesda. However, I can totally recommend this if you really want to play Skyrim VR and are willing to spend some additional money and a lot of your time to mod it to the point of being fun. Bethesda doesn't deserve to make any extra money off this game than that which they made of the the original Skyrim sales. They effectively did the bare-minimum to make the game playable (not enjoyable, just playable) in VR, knowing they would be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent hours researching mods. I went with a list of 20 that people said were essential to fix this for VR. I did this before ever trying the game. It's still broken even with mods. Avoid PC to VR ports even if they claim mods will fix it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy being able to hold nazeem up by his neck and dragging him to the throat of the world and throwing him off.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mods bring this game together, vanilla you shouldn't even try. Get on sale not worth $60
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get it on sale, mod the s**t out of it and get lost in one of the most immersive games ever coded, I have hundreds of hours in the flat screen version, this version will see me far beyond that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They barely changed the game when making this port. They do not deserve to charge you full price AGAIN. Buy a game key or repack.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game...but most of my 40 hours is me tryna get this game to work. Don't even think of buying if you don't wanna pour hours into modding it because this is the laziest VR port of all time, and it needs at least a dozen mods to make it a good vr game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Are you kidding me? Sneaking by crouching down, crawling up behind some bandit, flipping my dagger to hold it under-hand then plunging it into his shoulder?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sad that the game is only playable once you download an entire mod loader and mods, but if u want to play with floating hands and a 2 handed weapon that isnt even 2 handed then by all means lock in on this ported pile of money-grabbed slop. But i can say with QOL mods the game is really amazing and for sure worth the purchase.

neutral · AI labelView post →Vanilla, this game is straight booty cheeks. With mods? This becomes the greatest VR experience on earth, no questions asked.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once you install the essential VR mods like VRIK and HIGGS, this game becomes god tier. I rate it Todd/10, would (and already did) buy Skyrim again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing game developed by Bethesda. Bethesda’s massively successful RPG turns 13 years old today. The game has been ported and remastered several times and sold over 60 million copies to date. Have you played it?
neutral · AI labelView post →You'll be spending a lot of time setting everything up and downloading the required mods. It's a huge hassle but once that's done it's the best gaming experience money can buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are not going to mod this game do not even bother and NEVER pay full price, which is criminal IMO. Even on sale, which I paid 10 bucks from what I recall, it is still a poor VR game out of the box. I think 2 bucks is a fair asking price. Then I would have no gripes as it takes work to make it useable. MODs are its only saving grace, and even then it's not perfect, but it is 100x better than what Bethesda puked out. I appreciate MODs, but I should not have to rely on others to fix…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the greatest VR experiences! ONLY if you overhaul it with VR mods. Otherwise, it's buns. Buy it and get mods, fully recommend. (Ignore negative rating if getting mods).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great assuming you can run it, poor performance and basically requires mods to be up to any modern vr game standards, grabbing objects unlike many other vr titles doesn't use your hand as a hand, its the standard bethesda game grab system where the item floats in front of you, your hands are wands with no weight, collision or any other aspect that you would expect for a medium oriented around immersion. You can't even see yourself , your hands are low poly and just floating, The argument that…
