Players widely compare it to Portal, praising its puzzle design and time-rewind mechanic. [1][2][3][4] Some find the story engaging, while others criticize it as uninteresting or too similar to Portal. [1][2][3][5] Opinions on difficulty vary, with some finding puzzles too easy and others too precise or frustrating. [1][6][7][5]

This game really wants to be Portal. And that isn't a bad thing, I really want to be Portal too, but if you really want to be Portal the first step is to bring something to the table. The Entropy Centre tries to, and it is a commendable attempt. The concept is interesting; interesting enough to get me to buy the game and play it. But it falls far from the mark. SOME PROS: Game looks great and has a consistent art …

If you like Portal then you'll like The Entropy Centre. The story is interesting, there are plenty of puzzles to go at and generally the balance between puzzles and narrative / story events is well balanced. The positives: The puzzle progression is really good, slowly ramping up the challenge with the introduction of new puzzle elements which should be very familiar if you've played Portal 1 + 2 before. The story is …

I absolutely loved this game!!! It really scratched that portal 2 itch that I had for a long time :))) The beginning is a little slow to start off, I had really thought it was going to be easy all the way through, but it did get harder, a lot harder. Better yet, the game didnt overstay its welcome, it was all fun and no bloat. The mechanic of doing everything in reverse really messes with your brain, and it was a …

TLDR: It's just like Portal 2 with two big differences - very different main mechanic and much more cringe dialogue. But that still means that this is an amazing game! From the very beginning, you can't escape the Portal 2 comparisons. You wake up in an abandoned research facility and you're tasked to solve puzzles by an AI sidekick. The game basically plays just like Portal 2 (and that's a good thing). The main …

It definitely scratches a Portal itch! The story is engaging enough, the premise ridiculous enough and the dialogue is funny some times. Game play, mechanics and puzzles are in a great spot. Very fun. Pretty inspired. It gets the larger picture stuff right, but falls just a bit short on the small stuff. Like in Portal, you could pick up things, interact with non-puzzle mechanic stuff. Pick up a radio and toss it in …

The Entropy Centre sits at 78% positive across 232 opinionated reactions from 4 sources. Fresh or rotten — where do you land?
Critics, per Wikipedia
On Metacritic, the Windows and PlayStation 5 versions of The Entropy Centre received positive reviews; the Xbox Series X version received mixed reviews. Although Game Informer greatly enjoyed the puzzles, they felt that the narrative elements were not paced as well. IGN's reviewer enjoyed the first 10 hours, but subsequent puzzles struck her as not creative enough. Conversely, Push Square felt "everything is constantly updated and feels fresh". However, they criticized the game's asset reuse, which they felt made interiors look indistinguishable. MCV/Develop nominated The Entropy Centre for most innovative gameplay of 2022.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Solved: The Entropy Centre] First person time manipulation puzzle video game inspired by Portal. It was released a few years ago. It's not Singularity and not Timeshift. The title was short, two or three words, and I'm pretty sure it was some kind of physics technobabble. The game follows the Portal formula where the player has to solve a sequence of self-contained cube-and-button challenges in a decaying facility, except it's on a space station. The player has a device that can reverse time…

Especially in puzzle games. Because of this, the game can force you to rewatch the exact same cutscene multiple times. Keep that in mind. Many people here compare this game to Portal, and for good reason. Almost all the assets and puzzle mechanics from Portal 2 are present here, just with visual tweaks. However, there are a couple of…

neutral · AI labelView post →I wish I could give a neutral recommendation because I genuinely can't say its good or bad. I should also stress that, at the time of writing this, I have not completely finished the game, and I hope my review explains why. Its definitely a respectable entry in the "portal" genre as it doesn't make you think with portals, but rather with time. Specifically rewinding and freezing time. Its a fresh take on the genre's puzzle solving gameplay, however my personal issue lies within the fact that…

neutral · AI labelView post →The puzzling is quite good in this game but the problem is the length of sections between puzzles and the uninteresting story that drags the game down. It clearly takes its inspiration from Portal but it suffers from the comparison. The puzzle difficulty ramps up very slowly and, ultimately, I found myself getting bored unfortunately.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Entropy Centre is a largely Portal-inspired game that will require you to plan out what you're doing even more than Portal. (Note: there are a few chase sequences and a few battle ones that break this pattern.) And there's a cute robot called E, and your portal-gun-equivalent has an AI too. Basically, it's Portal but the AIs are friendly. And then there's The Talos Principle series, which is even more like what you're looking for.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Entropy Centre is a very good game. It is very similar to titles like Portal and The Talos Principle (especially the latter, in my opinion, including its environments and soundtrack), though it still stands out with its own distinctive features. The time reversal mechanic for objects is particularly interesting and very well implemented. The only things that frustrated me were: - The time limit for rewinding objects can be a bit of a hassle. Although it encourages you to move items…

positive · AI labelView post →Decent puzzle game, although the difficulty is all over the place - in my case the last two chapters (except one chamber) felt way too easy for the final puzzles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man what a cool game. Obviously heavily inspired by Portal but instead w/ time being the main driver. I bought this and sat on it for quite some time & I wish I played it sooner. Highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, when I first saw this game, I wasn't sure what to think, because it seemed like a knock-off of Portal at first glance. However, while the 'puzzle' premise is similar, the storyline is very different, and engaging. I'm really glad I played it, the puzzles are sometimes difficult, but not impossible by any means, and the pace is very well done. If you like puzzle games in this style, I highly recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It took me about 12 hours to complete this game. That isn’t terrible on paper, but honestly, I found myself wishing it were shorter. For the story it’s trying to tell, the game feels like it’s trying too hard to be Portal. The puzzles do get harder as you go, which is generally a good thing, but as someone who is usually fine with this style of puzzle game, I struggled far more than expected. I had to look up a walkthrough multiple times. Eventually, I found myself relying on the walkthrough…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →> Like, there is an in-universe explanation for why you are solving puzzles. That observation actually made me go through my library looking for more examples and, yeah, it's surprisingly few. There's 'The Entropy Centre', which also falls into the "You're a test subject" category. Other than that there's the Zachtronics games, where the reason for puzzle-solving is because it's your work.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Entropy Centre and Risk of Rain 2, bought more but those are the two I'm gonna play first.
neutral · AI labelView post →I highly recommend this game! The gameplay and puzzles were just right in difficulty for me, the longest time for any puzzle took me only 20 minutes, and I never needed to look anything up. If you like puzzle games like portal, then this game is for you. I also love the premise of the story, it kept me engaged during the playthrough and incentivized me to keep going till the end, although I did guess almost the whole thing relatively early on. 9/10 game for me. There were some minor visual…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall is great, a few levels in and the central rewinding mechanism will start to make perfect sense. Most levels are easy but still satisfying to solve as I feel like I am rewinding like breathing: The game managed to educate me to think in reverse as naturally as think forward. ~5 levels are harder and very memorable as they require careful planning and mastering of all properties of the game world learned so far, especially on how the world handles the "forking of timelines". With…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an infinite loop of hopeless and meaningless existence. i've cried at the end, this game is wonderful
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend. I wish I could but the game gets repetitive fast. The puzzles are interesting but the control the movement doesn't complement your intent. There are some puzzles, the where you could solve it if the player could jump but if the game doesn't think you should jump, it won't allow you to jump, etc; which is frustrating because the player can jump in the normal course of play. I have never left the game and walked away due to frustration (the reason for inflated playing hours)…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game really tries to be like portal 2 but ends up falling flat on it's face because of it. The rewind mechanic is not as intuitive as something like portals and ends up making you do the exact opposite of what you intended often. Puzzles feel extremely boring, tedious, and samey, put something on a button, move it to another button, walk to wherever you need to stand, rewind. I ditched the game, came back maybe half a year later and still thought it was boring. I did not care for the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having completed the game, I feel I need to give this game a negative review for one main reason: Many of the puzzles are precise . And not in the manner of a whole bunch of things all coming together, but rather in a pedantic, almost petty way. Like if the game asked you "What is eleven plus eleven?", It would tell you that you're wrong if you said twenty-two because the "real" answer (and the only one that actually lets you progress) is actually "two tens and two ones". Which ties in to an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is enjoyable FPS puzzle game. It's similar in style to Portal, but obviously using a different mechanic. You have one gun for the entire game, which allows you to rewind time on particular puzzle elements (such as cubes), or in some cases on falling debris in the environment. The puzzles are pretty easy for the most part (particularly when compared to a game like The Talos Principle or The Witness). They're generally straightforward since you are only manipulating time, so in your mind…

Unfortunately, the giant super-expensive world-saving machine doesn't run on hopes and dreams, so you'll have to work for it... mostly by solving a whole lot of puzzles involving cubes, switches, and the casual manipulation of time itself. You know. Normal office stuff. The Entropy Centre is a first-person puzzle game that comfortably sits…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is to Portal, as Back 4 Blood is to Left 4 Dead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game BUT.... I bought a puzzle game. I hate the parts where I need to fight the bots. I do not sign in for FPS :( But if you liked PORTAL this is similarly engaging. For the most part, it's even better, not requiring any reflexes, but then they hit the dam bots shooting at you :(

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The atmosphere, playstyle and artistry of the game lends heavily on Portal. However unlike Portal the puzzles became monotonous and a chore by the end. Pro's Can be charming and quirky at times, thought provoking terminal entries. Con's What was most disappointing after pushing through was the lacklustre ending making the experience futile. The game mechanics are very clunky and unforgiving, there are multiple puzzles where the same block has to be used in multiple use cases and if you don't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is genuinely psychotic to play. Imagine if you tried to play a poor man's portal 2, but on top of that you have to obsess about doing everything exactly right or you need to do the ENTIRE PUZZLE over again. It wants to be a puzzling great without putting in the work to actually be anything other than easy portal copy pastes or frustrating BS (and of course there's a boring story, over engineered setpieces, etc etc). If you're considering giving this title a glance, don't. there are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want a game with concepts similar to the portal games, this game has it, but if you are looking for a game that is half as polished as the portal series, you will be disappointed. There are many bugs in this game that makes me think that this game wasn't playtested at all, all the "puzzle elements" are just retextured model of the same cube, and the story is as cliché as you can think of. From the moment they introduced the conveyor belts I lost interest in playing the game, conveyor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Truly some of the worst, most cringe-inducing dialogue I have ever experienced. It's like they asked the front page of Reddit to write it. Cat jokes... seriously...? And there's so much of it. More yapping and waiting around than actual gameplay. Got to Act 9 and now there's mandatory chase and stealth segments, in a "puzzle" game. Yeah, no thanks. The graphics are nice and the time manipulation is interesting for maybe 5 minutes, but other than that there's really nothing else here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very simple but fun puzzle platformer which takes some very obvious influence from games like Portal, QUBE or Quantum Conundrum. A talking companion which provides levity and banter as you travel through a dilapidated facility which still contains a number of working puzzles in an attempt to escape and save the world... Its a fairly simple concept and story, but the puzzles are what you're here for anyway. You won't find anything too challenging and there aren't any philosophical…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely the best spiritual successor to Portal type game I've played. Reminded me a lot of Control in the visual style (read, fantastic), and even though it's UE4 it has that source engine feel (meant positively). Ran well, wish it had more modern AA options but not a major gripe, not sure I really get the story but it was compelling, interesting, and drove the game along very well. Overall worth the price and it's a steal on sale. Also, even though you don't go there, the fact that it had…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(NEUTRAL REVIEW) This game wants to be Portal, very, very badly. While i understand why it has such a positive rating, I personally feel that it isn't quite there. The dialogue is very janky, and at times, very hard to listen to. The gameplay mechanics, while fascinating, are also quite basic. I have also encountered some minor performance and visual bugs that have lead to me putting the game down early. Before you buy please keep these issues in mind.

neutral · AI labelView post →This game shows what a good inspiration paired with the clever execution can produce. I don't want to compare The Entropy Centre to Portal that much (it is really obvious that developers wanted to make something akin to Portal), but I respect that and I should also give credit: they did good. Like, really good. The Entropy Centre is a really charming game. Simple yet memorable from the design perspective; shallow, but not boring from the gameplay perspective. Advertised as a puzzle game, it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the realm of Portal-like, room-based puzzle adventures, I'd say The Entropy Centre reaches about seven-tenths of the way to Portal 2. The basic premise is trying to avoid the Earth exploding by way of solving puzzles. The puzzle solving itself is diegetically helping save the Earth. An odd premise, but it mostly makes sense within the world's logic. The main tool is a gun that rewinds objects to previous states, be that state moved, falling, rising, or even crumpled or expanded. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game is a solid puzzle game, so if you enjoy games like Portal, and don't care much for story, you can ignore this review. Without spoilers though, if you do care for the story of a game, this story had so many holes to it and took such aggravating turns that just left me annoyed by the end. Overall, if you only care about gameplay, go for it, but if you want more, I can't recommend this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Portal 3 this is not. Maybe that's not entirely fair, but it's hard not to make the comparison when you make your game as "spiritual successor" feeling as this. The beats are there but ultimately the execution feels like they missed the mark. That's not to say this is the worst game I've ever played. I can see a certain type of gamer that loves this - the game maintains a Very Positive rating here on Steam and that's fine - but if you've played other games in the genre or are a huge fan of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A complete rip-off of Portal down to every little detail, but using time mechanics for the puzzles. Fun in many way, loved the AI gun companion. But the puzzle design is awful, jumping from simple to incredibly complex with nothing in between, and throwing far too many variables at you. I gave up in frustration when I encountered a broken puzzle that couldn't be properly solved even after following video walkthroughs.
