"not really?" well, japan did, they fucking loved it, and one developer made themselves a new, creative, branching metroidvania inspired by it, built for replays. store.steampowered.com/app/2996540/...

neutral · AI labelView post →[後半に日本語レビューあり] A money-making metroidvania with a debt-repayment deadline The boys' adventure looks like a classic exploration game, drawn in atmospheric retro-style pixel art... but at its core, there is a factor of "repaying a specified amount of money by the deadline." Alongside the fun of gaining access to new areas through new characters/actions, the priority of money-making and risk management under the time limit (a system where time passes when you make mistakes) are always present,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Good Old Days! 12 hours in! Currently starting run 5, ngl run 4 made me realize and appreciate how nuanced and well designed the map is! Every character has different abilities used for navigation, and the map is designed with this in mind, it's really well thought out and fun to explore!

neutral · AI labelView post →And the one I'm currently chipping away at is The Good Old Days, a very non-linear metroidvania reimagining of The Goonies (the game of the '80s adventure movie, inexplicably far more popular in Japan than America), with a story that unfurls over multiple playthroughs. And this is JUST ONE GENRE.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Good Old Days is a wrap! Took around 14 hours for 5 runs. This game was pretty fun! The world was fun and felt natural to explore, the graphics were cool and the OST was chill! The vibes were unique as well, they reminded me of Earthbound and moon! It was an enjoyable lil Metroidvania!
positive · AI labelView post →The Good Old Days! 8 hours in! I'm on run 3 and still having fun! That being said, they added this filter to the game and it's kinda ugly fr 😣 the game has a roguelite hook tho! The map stays the same with minor differences and items carry over, which is kinda addicting lmao it's a cool experience!
neutral · AI labelView post →They're all pretty good tbh! Disney Illusion Island is a pretty colorful game, but decently easy since it's made for kids 😅 The Good Old Days is a roguelite take on the Metroidvania genre, and Crypt Custodian blends Zelda elements with Metroidvania elements, all three are a ton of fun tho!
positive · AI labelView post →The Good Old Days! 4 hours in! This game is sweet! It's a Metroidvania that has some roguelite elements to it, it's fun! It does have a time limit, but it doesn't feel restrictive, I was able to achieve the goal on my first run. The second run has some differences, so I'm excited to keep going!
positive · AI labelView post →ngl I feel like my problem solving approach to obstacles in a game is to attempt to break the game in every way possible before actually trying to figure out the proper solution lmao like I'm pretty sure the devs didn't intend for you to do this 🤣 Game: The Good Old Days by Yokogosystems/GRAVITY

neutral · AI labelView post →Very fun metroidvania with a nice style. Has looping ng+ with more story and you keep your traversal equipment and it gets slightly harder. Good graphics, simple yet addicting trying to search every nook for money or hidden passages.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is very clunky. -Jumping up into the side of a platform cancels all your horizonal movement making you incapable of landing on top, most of the time. -There is a lot of character switching to access various abilities, which doesn't feel as fluid as I would hope. -Feels like much of a play-thru is spent waiting for a dropped bomb to blow up the hundreds of doors. -Bosses are often menacing due to their speed and contact damage being much more dangerous than your clunky movement and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Goonies is one of those movies that, if it were on WPIX on Saturday morning while channel surfing (please, please do not make me explain that), would remain on until the end. If you are wondering if there are Goonies video games, there are several in fact!. Konami released The Goonies I and II for the Famicom, with the sequel also available on the NES. Even the Commodore 64 had a Goonies game. If you are old enough to remember these, you know they were action-adventure/metroidvania-style…

neutral · AI labelView post →The Good Old Days is a neat-seeming game but also man that title stinks. We like games from the 80s a boatload but nostalgia is such a boring basis for anything. You don't even need to not have it be Goonies 1 that part is great. Fuckin Goonies 1, the first Goonies. The one we didn't get here
negative · AI labelView post →A fun game, with the only minus being the unfortunately stiff controls that make any precision movement a chore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a Metroidvania that encourages replayability and gets deeper the more you do, and it also plays like a dream.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"i want to make a game in a year with a small team like the GOOD OLD DAYS" ok great. you can literally do that.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game was a challenge! I didn't understand you needed different characters to get through certain areas but it was pretty intuitive after I realized. Will continue to play for all the endings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo before buying and the content is very generous, perhaps even overly so. The pixel art, music are a big plus but the controls and story are a bit lacking. The goonies reference is cute and I admire the inspiration. Get it for the vibes and a good time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game’s got some solid potential. The visuals and gameplay have their charm. That said, it still feels a bit rough around the edges. Movements can be kind of janky, and some visual cues are easy to miss. Still, I’m giving it a thumbs up for the overall vibe. It really gives off that classic Earthbound feel on SNES.

neutral · AI labelView post →Remembering “The Good Old Days”, 1962-1970 when I’d rush home from school and hopefully catch the last couple innings of a Cubs game. That was back before Wrigley had lights, so all games during the week started at 1:20pm. Now games are unaffordable to attend and getting more unaffordable to watch.
neutral · AI labelView post →Ahhhh. The Good Old Days. Remember sitting around waiting to play more video game while you play video game

neutral · AI labelView post →A friend recommended this to me and I love the pixel graphics. The difficulty is more challenging than I expected and a controller is must! Looking forward to seeing all the endings on this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why am i paying off debt in game instead of irl? i dunno peak escapism
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Good Old Days hits that perfect nostalgic vibe. The pixel art and music feel straight out of the ’80s, yet the gameplays smooth and modern.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s short but leaves a warm feeling like stepping into an old movie you once loved. Worth it to get on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got dizzy halfway through the game but it was pretty decent fyi controller is way better than keyboard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed the unique premise and the freedom of exploring. Had a great time playing mini games to make monies $$$
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun retro inspired platformer with a lot to explore, worth tryin out if you liked the old metrodvanias
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played a "metroidvania" game in a long time. This one has a really interesting pixel art style that feels fresh, and a lot of cool exploration mechanics that I've never experienced in other similar games. It definitely feels well-made and has a lot of love poured into it.

neutral · AI labelView post →You run around collecting money to pay a debt. Finding secret passages is a big thing in this game - a secret passage leads into another secret passage, and before you know it, you are 5 secret passages deep. This game reminds me of "The Adams Family" for the NES - money was hidden in every corner of the stage. The sprite work is really good. Controls are clunky. I completed the game once in about 2 hours. Then the game invites you to do it again, but better. Except that you have to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little retro platformer but way too short for the price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a GROUND HOG DAY kinda MV.... Addicting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Good Old Days has potential but i am very bad at it! I got stuck to the point of no way to get further as far as i can tell. I give it a 7/10 because the art is good and the gameplay is fine but i'm just stuck and cant get any other characters
