What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,356 of 1,530 positive).
Players praise the charming hand-drawn art, witty dialogue, and engaging story. [1][2][3] Many reviewers find the puzzles frustratingly obscure, often requiring the hint system. [4][5][6] Some players report technical issues, especially on Linux, including bugs and missing cutscenes. [7][8][9]

Here's three reasons I wouldn't recommend this game: 1. Many of the puzzle solutions were so random I had to keep using the hint-system. (I read through a bunch of other negative reviews saying the same thing so it wasn't just a me-problem either.) 2. Most of the jokes were dry and unfunny, and many were even misogynistic. 3. The ending. First, the Conroy shooting scene repeating ruins all immersion you might've had …

point and click more like click and hint. I like it. without the hint i would not have finished the game. maybe i used hint 50% of the time or more. its very hard to figure things out. beside that i do enjoy the story, silly humour, art style and voice acting. overall 3.75/5

The Inner World is an engaging point-and-click adventure game that combines great humor with an intriguing story. Players follow Robert, a naive yet lovable flute-nosed character, as he embarks on a journey to uncover the secrets of Asposia, a world where the only source of air comes from three mysterious wind fountains. Pros: - great sense of humor - various witty dialogues make the game entertaining - engaging …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An average point and click with a decent story. However, it does not work out-of-the-box on Linux. I forced Proton to get it running. Text is cut off and the interface does not always display after click. Movement speed is extremely slow and there is no double-click to move more quickly. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very nice point and click game. It has nice visuals, it has a nice soundtrack, it has nice dialogues and a nice plot. Whole game is nice. Three things that are the best features it has for me are the plot because towards the end you can actually see a very relevant topic that comes up very often, Robert and his dialogue options ( so kind hearted and with a good amount of character development ) and lastly the whole mechanics in the game. A very frequent problem with this type of games is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Inner World is a decent but far from perfect point-and-click adventure game. Graphics are very charming, and voice acting is mostly well done. I didn't encounter any major bugs, besides some translation mishaps on written elements vs. the spoken dialogue (probably the person who translated the script was not the same one who translated the in-world graphics). Writing is mostly okay, with a nice story that goes by pretty quickly, some decent jokes, and some meh ones. Overall I couldn't fault…

positive · AI labelView post →The Inner World is a really delightful and cute point and click game. It follows a little boy on his quest after finding out a shocking truth. The personalities and characters are strong and memorable. I liked the story and graphics as well. The puzzles can be a little confusing sometimes but I also like that you can get creative and it might just work out. Had my fun in this game, recommended.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh wow, i can't believe I didn't review this. This was a fun little game. I didn't 100% complete this, but that's largely since I LIKED the game but not enough to really replay it. I got my enjoyment out of it the first time and one of the cons is how slow it is. But beyond the slowness, the music is good, the voice acting was largely good (main character kept making me think of Salad Fingers). The story was also okay even if it didn't make a ton of sense. I largely enjoyed my time in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is rather bugged, and it's truly heartbreaking T_T The art is awesome! The plot and the universe itself are pretty unique and addictive, but THESE BUGS ARE HORRIBLE! They literally make it impossible to play the game. And there are several (just check the discussion feed). My personal one - after cutscenes the game freezes and won't let me do anything. All I see is the crossed circle icon every time I try to click on something. Such a bug has not been described anywhere (steam, reddit,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On Linux (NixOS), the game is unplayable without doing the game developer's job. I've spent a while hunting down missing dependencies (the "openjdk8-bootstrap" pkg helped) for it to boot up, but after encountering my first black screen bug, I had enough. For those looking to debug it further, the game uses libGDX, and you can check the game's Java error logs by starting Steam from the command line or by starting the .jar file from /steamapps. The in-game characters and items are funny, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly not very funny, imaginative or intuitive. Lot's of unnecessary cringy dialog that does not help the story at all. Quit after about an hour. The artstyle is nice atleast.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was one of the most fascinating story based point&click type games I have ever played. The storyline behind the game was so strong and pretty good. Moreover, the character designs, the animation behaviours alongside actions and conversation were perfectly balanced and quite harmonious. The puzzles and going through the story are needing a little effort to solve was also good. The only challenging thing in my opinion was the Steam achievements to get. Although some achievements were pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is nice but the ending was pretty awful. You don't get to kiss someone who's not in a state to consent and then say it was worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love point and click adventures, but I can't really reccommend this one: you will encounter moon logic puzzles since the very first screen, and a plot-breaking bug in act 3 that forced me to recover save files online just to keep progressing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crashes quit often and sometime duplicates items that can soft lock you. I had to remake my game because it duplicated an item and the thing I needed to combine it with was now gone or more specifically the state of the object had changed so I no longer could use the object on it. This caused me to have to delete my save file and start from the beginning. I did 100% it so it's not completely unplayable but it was tedious. The game itself is okay. Some of the puzzles are nonsensical…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: 5.5/10 This is a game where I wish neutral was an option. It is a very mid, short (~4 hours in total, my game time is messed up as I started this a few years ago but then gave up as it was boring) point and click game. In the end I have chosen no, as at it's main price point this game is not worth it. If this was £5 then yes I would recommend it. It just doesn't match up to similar games in the genre at this price. There is a plot, but it's not very gripping and it seems rushed at times.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't a complete condemnation of the game, as there are certainly several positive aspects to it, but overall I can't say that I can recommend the game either...... Positives: Dialogue -- The script is absolutely a joy, and I had a smile on my face for much of the game; really, it is that pleasantly humourous! Voice Acting -- Maybe not earth-shatteringly good, but it does swing between delightful and merely adequate, so overall a positive experience. Hint system -- Very robust and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Entertaining, yet unremarkable point and click game. Some of the solutions are a bit archaic and there are minor glitches. Recommended on sale if you're interested.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is such a lovely game with an interesting story-line. I enjoyed the puzzles, though they weren't difficult, but some required some creative thinking or trying random things. I think I got stuck once only because I didn't see one of the inter-actable things on the screen. I enjoyed this game so much, I played the sequel directly after finishing this one!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Inner World (point-and-click puzzle game) has an achievement for using the hint button too many times, and I feel insulted, but also, like ... yeah, that's fair.
neutral · AI labelView post →nice game, good visuals, pacing and humor. So why the thumbs down? well, the screen blacks out after chapter 1 cut-scene, and game gets stuck. seems to have been a problem for years that never got patched up. there used to be a solution where you can download the save files from a drive, but the drive is now locked and inaccessible. So right now this game is basically a demo, since you can't access the main parts of it...

neutral · AI labelView post →This is the second time I've purchased this point and click adventure. I 100 percented it on X-box and is currently in my Steam game backlog for another run through. The art style is great. The story is great. The puzzles are great. It's a win. Definitely get it on full price or sale. 9/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Inner World is what happens when a Saturday morning cartoon and a point and click puzzle game decide to coparent a very confused flute nosed child. The art is adorable, the humor is wholesome‑weird and the puzzles range from neat to "why is my brain buffering like a 2006 YouTube video". It’s cozy, quirky and occasionally makes you feel like that meme of the guy staring at math equations. Good vibes overall, even when my last two brain cells were fighting for custody of the correct answer.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi Guys, this game is kind of a decent story but it will get boring after the forest segment which where I stopped playing! Puzzles sometimes great sometimes boring after the while you just want to get over the game after some while.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sweet and lively, with memorable plot and characters made alive by the endearing writing. Some technical issues hurt the experience a bit but the story was absolutely worth it, and with generous checkpoints it was little bother to restart whenever the game got stuck. Flute-nose is the conductor of my heart!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game overall, but my main complaint is that the cut scenes did not play 70% of the time. The screen would just turn green, and I could hear the audio but see nothing. It was a real shame because I was enjoying the story, and also sometimes you had to rely on the cut scenes to know you messed up something and needed to make an adjustment, but since I could not see what was going wrong, it was tough to determine what I needed to adjust. Other than that, it was a cute little game. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy Fosfos in a can ... A lot of fun with quirky humour and endearing characters. The colourful graphics are very well done. Excellent voice acting, especially that of the main character. I normally turn off game music. A lot of the time it's annoyingly repetitive and sounds horrible. I'm pleased to say that I really enjoyed listening to it this time. I wish there was more save options though. There's also a bonus music game that's separate to the main game. That's a lot of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Hidden Gem Full of Heart and Whimsy The Inner World completely charmed me from the very beginning. Its strange, upside-down world of Asposia is so creative and lovingly hand-drawn that I couldn’t help but get lost in it. The art style is whimsical, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the story—while quirky—is surprisingly meaningful. Robert, the naive but kind-hearted protagonist, quickly grew on me. His journey of self-discovery is both funny and touching, and the dynamic with the sarcastic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute in all respects, but it's a throwback to an age of point-and-click games where the answer makes very little sense. Just not a fan of having to randomly try and throw things together and hope they work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely loving this game, so far. It's got Monkey Island vibes with less frustration and a charming little world to explore. I highly recommend talking with everyone and looking at everything, not just for completionist/puzzle reasons; they're also a hoot!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent point and click game with a wonderful protagonist in Robert who's so kind and stupid that he quickly became endearing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid adventure/point and click game with a lack of polish that will sometimes irritate but not ruin the magic outright. Also, don't mistake the aesthetic with thinking this is aimed at younger gamers, the story beats, difficulty of puzzles and humor are more suited towards teens and up. Pros: * Fun characters * Unique and interesting world building/setting * Alright story * Fun puzzles * Good hint system that is as capable of dropping you vague hints as it is outright telling you the solution…

positive · AI labelView post →Sights & Sounds - There's a strange duality to the look of The Inner World. On one hand, the detailed background work depicting the dim subterranean world is imaginative and nicely drawn, often featuring whimsical, almost Seussian architecture and landscapes. On the other, its shapeless little carrot-nosed inhabitants look like they were pulled right out of a Newgrounds game from 2003. Kind of a mixed bag - It's not just the characters' designs that look a decade older than they are; the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cute game, I loved it but it was so buggy. It crashed a lot, then one day I came back and my save file was way back at the beginning of the game. So I can't comment on the full game because I uninstalled it out of frustration.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One awful puzzle killed this game for me. The theater puzzle. So up to this point, I had not used a hint or looked at a walkthrough. Frankly, the second I cave and look at a walkthrough, I stop playing a point n click because I've already lost the challenge, and I lose interest. So i basically try to never cheat in a point n click or use a hint system, so I stay interested. I had figured out basically 95% of this puzzle on my own, but what I didn't know is if I have to do the scenes in order.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update after 2.5 hours of game play... NOOOOOOO!!! I have the dreaded black screen bug after Laura's hideout and can no longer progress in the game. :( Update 1 month later: It's been a month since I asked the developers for the "save game" file, which is the only way to proceed if you have this bug, which seems to be a random thing that some people get and others don't. I haven't heard a reply so I am now changing my "thumbs up" rating to a "thumbs down" rating. So sad :(…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Inner World is the first 2d point and click adventure game i played and i was genuinely surprised how good a point and click game can be. the story writing is very interesting and dialogues are funny. the puzzles in this game are not very hard and really simple but will still take some brain power. overall i am really impressed with this game . 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Point and Click adventure game - Buggy game, had to reload it multiple times. "If you can tolerate the bugs its a good story with a great hints system"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Constantly black screen or stuck screen after I tab out sometimes, it's starting to get on my nerve! How can a game get bug so many times like that? It is fun solving but really annoying I have to alt f4 to close the game every time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →But have you heard of "The Inner World?" because that was mine. Probably. Unless I'm forgetting a Jump Start game from childhood.
positive · AI labelView post →Charming point and click world. I love games that give you a completely unique world. The main character is charming and cute which is important. The puzzles can be fristrating or hard but they DO expand your mind. You KNOW the objects or type of objects you are looking for. But you just have to use substitutes to build them. FOr instance...need a slingshot but got no string? Use a worm instead! That kind of thing. And of course there are always guides. A good story with fun characters.
