The Long Reach is a pixelated psychological horror adventure game. In this game, the player has a chance to explore a mysterious scientific lab, sent somewhere in a small American town and one day everything goes wrong. Wow! It's kind of hard to describe on what I just played. The Long Reach is an adventure game where we control the player using KB only. It's a different kind of horror game, kinda reminiscent to Lovecraft but not that high quality. Still, the story is violent, mysterious and scary. The dialogues are fun with lots of puns. The Long Reach is short but well-written and atmospheric story about the triggering of an apocalyptic event. Having to search for objects and retread the environment multiple times however (in a manner all-too-common to adventure games), does put a damper on the pacing, especially towards the latter half of the game.

The Long Reach is a horror-thriller game, basically a pixel side-scrolling adventure where you go around picking up items and then working out how to use them for puzzles to progress. Sometimes it makes sense, other times it is moon logic. There is a lot of back and forth, which isn’t particularly fun. Dialogue flip flops between excellent and downright awful, it is like someone trying to be edgy has written half of it. There’s a lot of unnecessary swearing, or just flat unfunny, try-hard…

This doesn't happen too often, but thumbs down not because I don't think one could like this game, but because it was a miserable experience for me. I'll try to stay away from spoilers, but at least a little, approximate info is needed at points. What I liked: - The pixelart is fairly decent, and the game deals with light and darkness pretty well - The unfolding story is pretty interesting as story, character details and food-for-thought. The game also uses non-linear narrative to present…

Mixed. I almost quit because movement and running did not work properly, but I read someone's tip about also pressing 'w' to avoid the input lag / stuttering. After utilizing this workaround, I was able to complete the game. While the story is interesting, I cannot say I particular enjoyed the experience with the technical glitches and infrequent autosaves (only when using an item correctly / finding a solution, no manual option) severely hampering the fun. The dialogue options seemed to…

The Long Reach is a horror game that aims to really mess with the player. Story: I'll try to keep this section to a minimum, to avoid spoilers, but it does include spoilers for the main character so this a warning. I think that The Long Reach had more potential if it had changed its setting up. The general story is that there's been experiments going on in a lab, and you, the protagonist, realize that some coworkers are going insane and people are showing up dead. The goal is to save yourself and figure out what is going on and if you can stop it. Overall, a pretty generic science-based horror plot. The first few moments catch your attention, and I was tense for a little bit until about halfway through…

This console game has you bumbling through the usual motions for retro 2D adventure games like Curse of Monkey Island, but the difference here is that Monkey Island tried to be funny and was funny, where this tries to be funny, dark and edgy and isn't. My score is NEUTRAL. But since Steam still doesn't allow it, I'll make it NEGATIVE. This is overall a good, retro-looking, psychological-horror adventure game. It is neither easy or hard, especially for the regular point & click adventurer. I must say; for a retro inspired pixel game, graphics are great, especially the color and the lighting, contributing a lot to the ambiance. Still, the ambiance owes most of its dept and thrill to the sound design and music score. As an audiophile, I was…

Some of the characters look samey, though, because of the thought-out character designs, you don't really mix them up. I could see this being an issue if the game had a much bigger cast, but as it is now, it works. The art style also looks simplistic but really fits the vibe - gives "The Thing" vibes. Just on the verge of greatness, The Long Reach ends up as a good horror-adventure game with an intriguing and creative story and cast of characters, mostly decently designed puzzles, and lastly features great, cheeky dialogue and writing that further add to the specific type of humor and overall sarcastic tone it aims towards, that give more than enough character to the game. Decent, easy going story akin to The Crazies with a mild touch of Stranger Things. Artistic representation is great; characters & environment are nice to look at, no room is the same. It is quality over quantity. Dialogue is very edgy and it's nice that you're given those options but to tell you the truth, responses are rarely different. I'd prefer that the pop culture references weren't as bold and in your face as they are, it felt too saturated at one point. It's a backtracking fetch quest.…

A short dip into a minor apocalypse. A small amount of trying every item with every world-object. An occasional run from a slightly better-armed foe. A compact story, neatly told, that needed to be a played, not watched. Ignore the title, this game is neither long, nor an (over)reach. I does what it needs to do, compactly, and like the best narratives (and potato chips), is satisfying enough that one wouldn't mind a little bit more, but can't identify anything that was missing.…

Honestly a great game to play that has that "Call of Cthulhu" vibe with the early game elevator tricks and how you slowly seep into madness. Puzzle and mysteries that don't require too much thought but aren't merely a matter of gather everything and use it on everything til it works, and even makes fun of you for doing so. And it really does convey one of the SCARIEST ideals in a single cutscene for something that seems like its straight out of the Twilight Zone!
