This game has a really cool gameplay idea but either I'm missing something or it just doesn't end up working well. If you use the "Shift+WASD" to move like the game suggests, that means you're straight up not typing anything while evading enemy attacks (and you'll be evading more and more every fight), and if you use the arrow keys to move, it kinda works as long as the letters you have to type are from the left …

The Textorcist is an extremely mixed bag. The concept on paper is fairly brilliant: bullet hell shmup mixed with a typing game. The only problem is, bullet hell shmups are too high octane to involve dodging AND typing, making Texorcist more frustrating than fun. The first few levels are fine, where the bullet patterns are relaxed enough to make it a fun venture, but during the endgame when it goes full Touhou Spell …

I have to put in a positive review for this game, because every negative review is the definition of skill issue. Textorcist takes a precision genre (bullet hell) and adds a twist - you need to type out words to do damage while using WASD to move. This isn't a big deal in the standard mode, but there's a hard mode where things get pretty challenging. It's very easy to mix your hands up between typing and moving, …

Textorcist - A typing game whilst also being a bullet hell. If you’ve ever wanted to battle demons while typing like your life depends on it, "The Textorcist" is your game! It’s a chaotic blend of keyboard smashing and ghostly exorcisms that had me laughing and sweating in equal measure. Who knew saving souls could be so hilariously intense? I have to admit, it got insanely difficult in the later parts of the game. …

This is an absurdly hard game that has no right being so difficult. Expect to have much more hours than me. That said, to enjoy this game, you must be a good typer. As in, 100wpm+ touch-typing multi-tasking good. Unless you're a masochist, of course. Some parts of this game use Latin, so you can't rely on it being only English words. The game itself is a bullet-hell of epic proportions, even if at times, a bit …

Players who liked The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia talk about unique combination of typing and bullet hell; those who didn't talk about extreme difficulty spikes in later bosses. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The Textorcist received an aggregate score of 78/100 from Metacritic. Holly Green of Paste Magazine compared the game to Mavis Beacon, calling it "a nice change of pace" as it challenged her despite her typing skill due to its difficulty and emphasis on precision. She called the game's mix of genres "inventive", and the plot and setting "deliciously sacrilegious". Luca Forte of Eurogamer Italia rated the game 8/10, calling the game a tribute to Italy, as well as "ironic" and "irreverent". Saying that the game's music is "extremely catchy", he also called the humor a "godsend" for Italians. However, he stated that the game was "niche" due to its difficulty and gameplay. Simone Tagliaferri of…

60 of 201 · most liked firstThis game was made by Satan himself. How come no one before thought of combing typing and bullet hell. It's hard to pay attention to moving projectiles while typing with 10 fingers. I didn't make it very far as of writing the review and I'm not sure if I want to continue. I don't think I have the balls to become an exorcist.

You move to dodge bullets and such and type text to perform exorcism. Humor is top notch and you gonna find yourself in quite peculiar situations... Music is pretty good. Visuals are pixelated but ok, there's some attention put into details. Recommended if you like typing games with a twist. Make sure to watch out for evil pope with red eyes (rage mode activated)!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I sadly can't recommend this game, even though I like the idea. The game doesn't have good settings and it wants you to type "settings" to go into settings, which does fit into the games theme, but was so unexpected that it took me a while to figure it out. You can't mute the game in the background, you only have one single option for windowed mode, can't resize the window and the intro scene already has the texttempo going way too slow imo. There aren't many cutscenes like that, but I'd like…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfect game for those who love bullet hell and typing games. You play a badass exorcist who tries to quickly read Latin Bible verses while exorcising demons from possessed people. How could it be more unique than this? The game mechanics are also pretty crisp. Cons: -Minor bugs: While fighting Enoch Varg, Varg casts a spell on us and forces us to read his vegan black metal lyrics. The game does not input the first letter of those lyrics every time. Also for some reason, the camera zooms in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a typing + Bullet Hell game, it's better than expected. BUT, every time the game is redownloaded, the save files disappear. This is such a disaster due to it's difficulty. The game often crashes during or right after a battle, which means lost of progress, did quite some physical damage to my keyboard.(From my smashes :/ Unless people spend time fixing these issue, I won't recommend buying this game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel like the devs didn't test their own hardcore bosses. If you don't get good RNG, the fight is as good as lost. You get hit at the wrong time, your book flies into the middle of a pile of projectiles that are impossible to get through without dying, and you restart and hope for better RNG the next time. The premise of the game was cool to start, but trying to finish the hardcore bosses are not enjoyable at all. Great premise and time if you're not trying to get all the achievements, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a mix of bullet hell and typing games. I'm not sure if that combo could work, but in this game it definitely doesn't. You want to have your fingers on the home row to touch type quickly, but you always have to move them off to either move with shift+wasd or the arrow keys. It's easy to mistime releasing shift and type an extra a or d when moving around, this moves you back one letter in the word, which means that if you then blindly type the rest of the word while you're looking at the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game isn't just hard, it's unfair. Score penalties for taking the trinkets they give you? Fine, okay. But they're almost mandatory to get anywhere and that it's presented as a minus (versus, say, a score bonus for having empty slots) psychologically makes the player averse to taking the handicap. There's little sparkles that follow Ray around on the map as you fight, I assume as score or something but it effectively always makes you feel like you're being followed by enemy projectiles. If…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun game for as long as you can beat the mob. Textorcist is a brutally difficult game that doesn't have any ability to alter the difficulty. It has one setting and that setting is "one handed bullet hell". Like many folks who use a computer to game, I also use a computer for work and have lots of experience typing at speed. This game doesn't care - it will frustrate you with impossible bullet patterns that cause you to lose your place and start the entire incantation over and over and over.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun and experimental game, but unfortunately it's best played with both hands on the keyboard and your foot on your controller's thumbstick. Controls are just, awkward.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dodging bullets with the arrow keys while having to type sentences that use BOTH halves of the keyboard would work perfectly fine if we had 4 arms, but we don't so its annoying, difficult and only gets worse over time. neutral · AI labelView post →The game just don't work for me, I don't understand who it's made for, I like typing games but this game require to type with one hand and to control movement with the other, it just doesn't click for me and most of the difficulty comes from me not knowing how to type with one hand. And the sense of achievement is also gone due to the fact that you can cheese the whole game by plugging in a controller and a keyboard at the same time and having one person control the movement and another type.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried hard to like this game. The concept and music are awesome, but the execution is miserable. It's nearly impossible to type huge words while dodging tons of projectiles. It's like the worse of both worlds (bullet hell and typing), when it could've been really good if they just stuck to one side. Also no difficulty change or lives, if you die on the phase 6 boss you gotta go allllll the way back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →im not even gonna complain about the mashup of bullet hell and typing. it can geninuely work its just executed in such a stupid way in this game. your left typing with one hand while there is a constant stream of bullets towards you. theres also periods where bosses disappear and become invulnerable to typing and to top it all off you have to stay within a certain range of the boss so you can type in general thus making the already hard dodging even more annoying. this game would work much…

positive · AI labelView post →I just got "The Textorcist". Really unique, being a bullet hell typing game. Has been a pretty enjoyable experience, and I'm thinking about 100%-ing it if I can.
positive · AI labelView post →Other than the writing being quite juvenile I just don't find bullet hell to mix well with text combat input at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a cool game! the design and gameplay loop are engaging. The music goes way harder than it needs to. This is a surprisingly good co-op game with one person controlling the shmup movements and the other typing the sentences...honestly I don't know how I would play this single player.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is impossible to play on a laptop. You have to use the arrow keys to dodge bullet hell while trying to type out a sentence. And if you lose your book you have to start over again. I couldn't get through the first fight. I can type like a madman but I am not that coordinated.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It does have two big difficulty spikes, but honestly, i did have fun with it. The story and humour can be hit or miss - the church runs more or less everything in rome and they have their own version of google called godle, i think this should give enough of an idea for the rest of the game. There is a setting to change fancy font to plain one which does help quite a bit with readibility on later stages when you have to type in a lot of difficult latin words. Yeah, that's kinda it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How you can play this without third hand is beyond me. It would be way better if you had to avoid projectiles first, and then had a chance to hit back by typing, during some kind of a pause. Otherwise it's just... strange, to say the least.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Typing as a mechanic in video games is not common, and this game manages to do it well. This game's ending gets very hard though so be prepared to try hard.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cons: 1. Wish your bible didn't have to bounce far away when getting hit. 2. When making typing errors, you're penalized for having to retype the previous letter(s). Overall, enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My friend bought me The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia in the Steam sale. It's a typing whilst dodging game, with a cool pixel aesthetic and funky soundtrack. 📖⌨️ So tricky, yet satisfying when I finally defeat a boss ✨👹
positive · AI labelView post →Great game, dont listen to people saying the gameplay is to hard or that idea of typing and bullet hell is made badly, they probably have skill issue. This game suppose to be challenging, and going out of comfort zone trying to try dodge and type is part of it and its fun. Difficulty progresion is alright. I think there is bit of bigger jump after 5th boss, but that isn't gonna throw you right into hardest fights
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game for "touch typists." If you can type very quickly without looking at the keys, and if all the other typing games out there are too easy and boring for you, >>THIS IS THE ONE<<. It is incredibly fun, but SO. DIFFICULT. The shift-WASD controls for moving your character are very creative and pretty intuitive. The movements are super accurate for a game that asks you to dodge dozens of attacks while also typing. I am currently stuck on one of the last hardcore levels... The game is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Unique concept, good as a bullet hell, satisfies the typing niche, challenging in a bite-sized way (on first play). This is one of my favorite bullet hells! I'm still on playthrough one but at just around 2 hours I'm almost done. If I wasn't going for achievements this game is probably under 2 hours in length. This is a bad thing for the "casual" gamer because of how the games replayability is tuned. So 2 hours of campaign, not 2 hours of gameplay/content. There's hardcore modes I…
