What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (374 of 434 positive).
Many players say it's a charming Sims-like with great potential. [1][2][3] Some find it too barebones and lacking content for the price. [1][4][5] Players praise the developer's responsiveness and inclusive features. [2][6][7]

I have a few hours of playtime now, and I've owned the game for a few years. I honestly would not recommend it as a competitor to other life sims in it's current state. Here's my honest review of it while being an active member of it's community for the past couple of years. PROS - You can run this bad boy on a microwave -Lots of inclusivity for POC and lgbtq+ Identities - Soft and cozy artwork and sound track, very …

Absolutely outstanding game. It's obvious the developer has put a lot of love into Tiny Life. I've played for a few hours and in that short amount of time I cheated on a significant other and tried to get the side piece pregnant, broke a pc in the library and got zapped trying to fix it, and called my boss to quit my job before going to work the first day but got fired instead lol The solo dev is still actively …

This game has potential but at the current state its way too barebones, so many things are missing and it's not exactly the most polished experience either. If you want a finished product I would wait for a couple of years but if you want to support a small passionate developer and see how the game grows it's totally worth buying.

This game has a ton of potential. Very moddable, very flexible, and with real future prospects. Multiplayer is part of its roadmap, and LAN multiplayer has been explicitly confirmed, along with a GOG publication, this is one of those future proof games that care for their own preservation.

84% of the 188 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Tiny Life. The complaint that keeps coming up: limited clothing, furniture, and activities. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its the closest i can get to the sims without having to make an EA account
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a game worth trying, Gives you some sims 1 vibes. But the limited amount of furniture, decoration, and more makes it hard to give this game a pass. Every new map added is very small compared to the first map. Not sure if that's the intention or not. They also claim it has over 100 clothing items on the store page which the game does not. The clothing is extremely limited. It feels they are going ideology over gameplay. I will update my review sometime in the future after the game has had a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to give this game a thumbs down because I still hope it can be made into something good, but even for $10 there just isn't enough here. Like not even a few hours worth of fun. I tried it when it first came out and it was very boring, but heck, it was brand new and just needed to bake more. Tried it again 16 months later and... still missing a ton of features. Not a lot of jobs, skills, activities, etc. As far as I can tell you can only make money from the jobs and not craft skills. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Created a lumberjack family with a quaint cottage in the middle of the woods, 5 days in wife gets pregnant and husband gets electrocuted trying to fix the tv. Now she's a widow with 1 baby daughter. What else is there to say, its pixels sims minus the microtransactions and constant crashes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing the Sims franchise since I could remember, the Sims 1 was actually the first videogame I ever played back when I was in first grade. Since then it was love at first sight, and I played thousands of hours of each sequel after that, even going so far as to play many of the spin offs. So when I saw this game in the steam store, with is strong resemblance resemblance to the Sims 1, I had to check it out. I want to start by saying that the fact that a single dev has taken on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering the art style, I was expecting something more akin to the sims 1. It's very inspired by the sims 4. And there is nothing wrong with that, if you're into the sims 4. But it means babies are super annoying. Adult will forget everything you asked them to do to check on their child or let them out of the crib, seconds they put them inside. Children can only get up to level 3 in skills, making them quite uninteresting. You can't have accidental death either. No fire while your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This VS Sims: As an avid sim franchise player, I was curious if this game would be just a rip off or something different. I will say that while the day to day play of the game is very similar to Sims, I feel like the simplicity of it brings it into a new light. It is a lot like sims 1 or 2 but those games are no longer available unless you still have the disks. Its a fun throwback for sure. I've also been in a bit of a burn-out with the sims lately with their bugged expansions and ripping of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remove the pronouns from the game, don't make fools out of yourselves.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right now, it's ideology over gameplay. For example: there are only 2 fridges in the game, but 12 different pride flags. That wouldn't be a problem in and of itself. It just shows the direction of the whole game. Yes, of course it's early access. But it seems pride flags are more important, than furniture, that has actual use. Let me give you another example, which makes the game just not fun at all to me. Imagine you're playing a guy who wants to find his future wife. Ok, you go out and meet…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Strike 1: I hated the pronouns, but decided to tolerate them because I thought our Tinies could be edited after creation at least. Strike 2: When I found out they couldn't be edited post-creation, I still forgave the forced ideology and kept playing. Strike 3: After many hours of gameplay, I wasn't really paying attention to my adult children's reproductive abilities because I thought the pronouns would auto-correct their genitalia. Silly me for having common sense, right? Cut to me with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's "The Sims: Even Bigger Pixels Edition". Really, it plays very much like The Sims 1, from 2000, but with big chonky pixels that sorta emulate running at 320x200 or something akin to it. The graphics style makes me feel like I'm playing a very odd X-COM UFO Defense mod. The game is nice and simple and straightforward, like the original Sims was without expansions. It's a little limited at the moment, but hey, early access.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks so much for the platform 🥰 Tiny Life is a life sim game inspired by the likes of The Sims! It uses an isometric pixelart style, and its characters (Tinies) are deeply customizable for LGBTQIA+ identities, including asexuality & aromance! 🏳️🌈❤️ It's on itch and Steam! tinylifegame.com
neutral · AI labelView post →I wanted to enjoy the game, but unfortunately there is no way without stepping into this"pride' ♥♥♥♥ anywhere u go. This game isnt the exception. It looks so cosy and cute and i had my hopes for this game but again the issue of mentaly unstable people killed all the mood. I wish the developers all the best next time go easy on people who just want to enjoy a life simulator without gayness promotion. Thanks!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its like the sims 4 but in a simple style and takes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY less storage!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is LGBT-inclusive: If you want to play a woman, you can choose your pronouns (she/her) and that you are able to get pregnant. If you want to play a man, you choose he/him and that you are able to get someone pregnant. You can have the trans flag as makeup and choose to be asexual or aromantic for your sexuality. I'm not here to advocate for or against any of this, since this is a game review and not a political debate. I don't consume "inclusive" media in any shape or form, therefore…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sims 1 but modernized is the best way I'd describe this game. The way this game captures the Sims 1 vibe made me feel like when I first played Sims 1 as a kid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(EDIT: I wanted to revise my review a bit after speaking with the developer more. Again, very transparent!) I've delayed posting a review of Tiny Life to make sure I've grasped everything about the game. I then realized I now have over 300 hours in this game. Needless to say, a review is overdue, lol. Before I list pros and cons, it goes without saying this is an early-access, solo-developer game. So, "lack of content" isn't something I consider a negative since it's uncontrollable. My…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Take all your childhood memories of playing the sims, remove all of the stupid things you had to pay extra for (they're in works- and not for extra $$$), and then put it all in a cute pixel format and you have TinyLife. Yes, it's still early access, but it's becoming better all the time and the developer is constantly updating it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tiny Life is one of those games that just hits differently. The art, gameplay, and vibrant community make it a truly enjoyable experience. The freedom to upload builds, worlds, and mods to the Steam Workshop transforms the game into a universe of its own, rather than just a game you play. ---- Pros - Modding Modding in this game is not only easy to access but actively encouraged. It’s simple to pick up and modify, with a few tutorials also available. Plus, the Steam Workshop is filled with an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game. It reminds me a lot of a certain original maxis game and it does scratch that itch. I'm looking forward to seeing this little beauty grow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the game at least a year ago I think; and even though, I know the developper seems to have a lot to deal with, the development of the game is quite slow. Too slow? Probably. Elders - and death! - have only been implemented recently, which is exciting but also shows the pace of the development. I like the graphics, the system of sentiments is also pretty cool. I hope we're going to have more death, hobbies/skills, and just more complexity overall in the relationships (even though I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, no. Not playing a game with "pronouns". Bleh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game but very incomplete for now, so I would suggest waiting a while. The good : Lots of varied and bright colors for hairstyles, eye colors, and skin tones. You can choose one of three voices for a character, and then adjust the pitch, which is pretty cool. No sex selection, instead you have a selection for pronouns and another selection for choosing if the character can get pregnant, get other people pregnant, or just not get pregnant. Neighborhoods feel alive, npc tinies ai…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could look past the political agenda pushed on the player if the game wasn't so shallow
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very barebones. Essentially a pixel version of the Sims, but now with the political gender identity stuff that there's no way to filter off if you don't want to deal with it. Controls are clunky and camera only rotates to four positions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SUCK IT EA! I've had far more fun with this game than I have playing Sims 4. And plus there's NO MICROTRANSATIONS. Please don't sleep on this game! It's wonderful!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a ton of potential. Very moddable, very flexible, and with real future prospects. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Happy Transgender Day of Visibility, everyone! We want Tiny Life to be a game where everyone can express themselves and their identity freely, including their gender, and feel safe and accepted. ❤️🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈❤️
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is not ready, buuuuuuuut that's why I bought it. To help the team work on it, because this is worth it. Sims 1 energy, but upgraded gameplay with a soul.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game seems fine more or less but I spent like 3 hours just trying to build and couldn't because the grid doesn't stay or something...yes I am ocd so I was finding the center of the lot to build out from but every time I would rotate the camera everything would get thrown off and nothing was where it should have been in the center of the lot. I couldn't install ceiling lights because it kept saying there wasn't a ceiling even though there was but only if you rotated the camera around, if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's the isometric sims but with sims3 style open world we've all been craving!! Seriously, as a kid I often preferred Sims1 to Sims2 cuz I *loved* the aesthetics, this is right up there with it!! Y'all gotta check it out!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing replacement for the Sims tbh. I've been trying to find one for ages now, especially since EA's recent bs, and this has been SUCH a balm to the soul omggg ! It's so cute, fun and super queer friendly! I can't wait to mess around and harrass my Tinies some more soon hehe
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →would not recommend. Just play the sims. Came in with a open mind but the graphic and lack of detail make the game hard to maneuver and less enjoyable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit on 5/9/2026 On April 1st, 2026, Ellpeck, the developer, decided to mock traditional ways of relationships just to gain approval from supporters of the woke social terrorism movement. It seems he acknowledged the criticism points I provided in my review, but sadly he doesn't understand nor have the mental capacity to realize that the direction he's taking with this game won't benefit him in the long run. I do not endorse his behavior, and these kinds of behaviors have led to actual…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →way too pixelly for my taste.. its hard to read the game if u zoom in too near.. everything becomes too blocky... Sims 1 at least have more pixels so u can actually SEE stuff... a No-go for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure how the game got the “Verfied in steamdeck” despite the camera not even rotating with the specified button and several things being binded to the D pad at the same time on the same buttons also when pressing “Save and quit game” the game immediately shot down
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do more gameplay than building in life sims, and I have been really enjoying the gameplay of Tiny Life so far. I also like that it's not super easy! I enjoy struggling for money in-game and having to work my way up. I also love all of the inclusive and queer interactions, and the NPC names are very fun. The little details like the bees and people being on communal lots and out in the world make it feel so alive, too! ❤️
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the best sims game to come out in 10 years
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played the demo, it was epic i just had to get it ASAP i have zero regrets
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOTE: I'm only recommending because I can see a lot of potential, current early access is not very much to play with. The game has a lot of potential and I do think it will be a good game someday when completed so I can't bring myself to say not recommended and give it a bad start with the algorithm, but there's a long road ahead for development and I think for whats currently there, the price is a bit high. I won't be revisiting for a while to give the developer time to add some more to it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Last for the day is our feature game Tiny Life by @tinylifegame.bsky.social ! This pixel sim's like is really charming and I loved the demo when I played it a while back. Excited to dive into the full EA game and see what these characters get up to. store.steampowered.com/app/1651490/...
positive · AI labelView post →love the direction they developer is taking. Cute and simple but becoming more defined, detailed, and open ended
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like how even though it is clearly inspired by the original Sims PC game, it has its own charisma and charm that makes it stand out as its own thing. I started playing Tiny Life as an alternative to Sims, but now I'd play Tiny Life as my first pick. The style of pixel graphics is also really good for being the exact right amount of feeling very customizable, and therefor very immersive, but also smooth and simple to play without feeling overwhelmed or cluttered. I recommend this game if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only played 7 hours so far and I have yet to see everything there is even in this early access game. I need a new life sim to involve myself in after the Sims falling off and I love where this is going! The style is simplistic, but don't let it deter you! There's plenty to do for early access. Don't overlook this game just because of the pixel graphics!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a competently put-together life sim game. It runs well and it's easy to control which already makes it better than the Sims 4 imo. I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the lack of cosmetic options, but I'm sure there'll be more colours and clothing later down the line. I'm personally more interested to see substantive additions like pets, lifestyle options, etc. Keep up the good work devs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WTF!!! It took me off guard its practically sims 1 and 4 without any dlc and im happy to support this dev! Please take my money and my glowing review! Its in early access and it has a bright future! Please eventually add pets i wanna pet 2D doggo :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far I've logged about 6 hours in this game and truly love it. If you're looking for a game that allows you to get back to the basic dollhouse style of life simulators and has a Sims 1-esque feel to it, this scratches that itch. I just love how adorably goofy the tinies look and all the different skill options and career options make it interesting. I have yet to discover everything this game has to offer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**Update note at very bottom. The rest of this review is from my original. I'll be honest, I'm super on the fence as to whether or not to recommend this game. I keep changing but I think I do because it's still playable. Quite minimalist for a Sim Life game, but it's possible that's just because it's early. To go into a bit more detail: It's a good game. I like the pixel style. It's quite like the sims with some minor game play differences. A lot less furniture options for sure. Building…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a lovely relaxing game with just the right amount of challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely loving this cute little life sim! I've been desperately searching for a new game that would scratch the Sims 4 itch for me, and this definitely does the trick (and honestly raises the bar in a few ways)! Really excited to see how the dev continues to improve the game as time goes on. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like a love letter to the Sims 1, love it!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It took me two hours to get bored. It feels like there is relatively little narrative or events happening. You narrate 90% of what happens on screen in your head, and there is little to help you construct the story. Most of it seems to focus on basic life simulation features, such as finding a job, finding a partner, and having kids.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i tried this game a year ago and recently tried it again. i am very much pleasantly surprised by the amount of things were added to the game! i now have more confidence they will continue to improve and add more stuff. dev if you see this, my wish is to see a bigger map with 100 (ok maybe 20 to start) households with story progression and family trees.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy this game, it's simplistic nature makes it easy to pick up, the camera may need some getting used to bu overall it's a good game, it's constantly getting updates and is developed by someone who cares about the game *cough* *cough* *cough* EA *cough* *cough* Sims 4.
