I realize this game is old, and I might get autistic dopes who don't leave the house give me sh!t... but this game sucks. Forget the fact that enemies have perfect aim and can 1 shot you, they blend in with the outdated pixel graphics of the map. You will die before you even see them. The keyboard layout is kind of wonky too, but that's nothing compared to what I mentioned first. I don't expect a Call of Duty type …

When the name Clancy meant something instead of being the usual Ubisoft slop with his name slapped on it. The best Ghost Recon and it isn't even close.

Still one of the best tactical shooters i only gave it a chance because it was the only ghost recon that didnt require an ubisoft connect account so i gave it a try. And hell yes it’s worth a buy just for the mod heroes unleashed it adds all expansions for free! No need to buy desert siege and island thunder. It adds : Over 400 maps and 300 missions, including solo, co‑op, and multiplayer scenarios. Every mission …

me and my brother started playing this a few days ago and have had it as just our little bonding game or whatever you wanna call it, and honestly even with just a 2-man squad, this game is really really really good. It's not like other tactical shooters where you can use tactics but aren't necessarily required. In this game, they are indeed required. the AI is really really smart for an early 2000's game, as …

The original Ghost Recon is an amazing and hardcore tactical experience that differs greatly from its more modern sequels. You start each mission on the loadout screen where you can choose the ghosts you want to send out, each of whom have certain skills and equipment that others don't. You have to plan carefully depending on the mission description. If you choose the wrong loadout, you could be in for a world of …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Does not work. Stuck on main menu and black screens. I'm sure there is a community mod that will help me experience this piece of gaming history, but the modders did not get any of the money, Ubisoft did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic with a campaign that affects unit achievements and losses. We are sorely lacking titles like this one in the 2020s.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get the Heroes Unleashed mod to add hundreds of new levels, gear, weapons, units and randomized objectives for endless replay value, along with vastly improved ai. Vanilla Ghost Recon is GOATed but this mod takes it to another level.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original Ghost Recon is the best tactical shooter in existence, at least in my opinion. Managing your squad from where they move, what they do, to the loadout of your team is a fun and engaging challenge. The gunplay is top notch as is navigating the map in a thoughtful manner to achieve objectives, eliminate the enemy, and not get yourself killed. I continue to have fun with this game and cannot recommend it enough if you want to dive into a tactical shooter with a Tom Clancy styled grand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s been 25 years since this gem first dropped and it still absolutely SLAPS! It is incredibly eerie how accurately the original Ghost Recon foreshadowed real-world geopolitical events. Pretty sure Tom Clancy had a time machine, because he nailed the 2008 Russo-Georgian conflict seven years before it happened. The modern-day tactical warfare games we see today only exist because games like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon built this town. It's 2026 and the atmosphere is still top-tier, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played this game alot more hours than steam says. I played it alot on boarding school with one of my current friends - so many good memories with this game. Of playing in co-op and using tactial coordination to complte mission together. I wish Ubisoft makes a modern remake of this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is legitness having finished all 3 campaigns, i can safely say that ghost recon was ahead of its time, these games hold up pretty much perfectly 25years later, if you slapped modern graphics, and first person player models, it would be impossible to tell that the actual game was made 25years ago.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my top picks from 2001. I don’t remember much since I was young, but I eventually managed to find it. I discovered it through a Computer Bild Spiele magazine, and it gave me countless hours of fun (and held my hand when mom cut off the internet for playing too much). Later, my favorite came in 2010 with Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, which I got from the Computer Bild Spiele Gold edition. It’s a real shame it’s no longer on Steam, as it holds many great memories.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for the 1st time 20 years ago and my love for this game didn't change. Go silent and detect the enemies and assault them with three full teams, they never seen us coming and that's why we are the ghosts. Tips: Don't rush the enemies or you will suffers losses, the best combat points to upgrade your soldiers are weapon ability so you don't miss a shot and your aim is more stable and endurance so you can take much more hits before dying. Stealth seems to make you invisible to certain…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd like to point out 100% Steam Deck compatibility, full resolution, super sharp and smooth, out of the box no tinkering, with a solid comunity control setting, only thing I needed to do was to set lowest mouse sensitivity in the game and set higher sensitivity of joystick mouse in steam deck. Otherwise joystick mouse is choppy, this way is butter smooth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hardest bullsh*t I have ever played. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorites of all time. Nothing beats coordinating squads on a map while controlling any operator you want during the mission. The perfect mixture of strategy, difficulty, locations, and gunplay. We need modern clones of this because the latest Ghost Recon games are nothing like this -- and this one's easily the best.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game in a bundle, but the game didn't work, not even after a week of back and forth with the developer to see where the issue was. I wanted to return the game (I played less than 2 hours, 5 minutes at most and all of it was spent on attempting to open the game, which my pc turned off imminently after starting) but Steam didn't allow it to do so because I played more than 2 hours in one of the other games in the bundle and I can't refund one game when you buy in bulk, you refund the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man this game was so ahead of its time that it predicted Russia's invasion of Georgia and also predicted Russian aim kids who can one-tap you at 150 meters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Aged well. Yes ai/bots were terrible back then, still are after the new patches but I still personally like the game. Ai, is inconsistent, doesn't listen well, makes weird formations, doesn't follow orders well and the enemies have a insane aimbot but I still like it. It's challenging for once. COD on hardest difficulty is not easy but a lot easier then playing this game on the hardest difficulty. Here you can actually make strategies, have to think from the top of your head,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember my father playing this game on our PS2 back in the days. This year I had the opportunity to play it myself for the first time. It reminds you of the times when Ubisoft used to publish great titles. The gameplay is fun, the squad mechanics are cool, the combat hasn't aged badly. The story is the usual US propaganda but at the end of the day all these things blend smoothly. I recommend the Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed mod. It makes the game even better. Sure, friendly AI can be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, remains one of the most influential tactical shooters ever created. Released in 2001, it bridged the gap between the slow-paced precision of military simulations and the immediacy of first-person shooters, setting a new standard for realism and squad-based strategy. The game places players in command of an elite special operations unit known as the Ghosts, a covert U.S. Army team deployed to handle missions…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a free roam game. you can follow the intended path, or choose your own. old graphics, old engines, still a good first person shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old, classic strategic game that still makes a person think, plan, and allows for having a great time with friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was wayyyyy ahead of its time. The AI are hard to beat and you can't just go around and run like COD. You have to think of your strategy which make this game really enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still a solid game after 20+ years. Heroes Unleashed is a must for returning fans
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a lot going for it, but the poorly designed AI holds it back thankfully, mods can make a world of difference.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was not only very surprisingly a good game, but also may be my favourite tactical shooter now (Sorry RS3). The game has good difficulty, great levels, and a brutal difficulty. Just about everything I want from a tactical shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When Ubisoft used to be cool this game was made I even heard that it was used by the military as training
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Controlling teams feels seamless. Good solo or co-op.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the greatest games of all time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's be clear: this game did not age like fine wine. It aged more like vinegar mixed with manure. The AI is all over the place, and for all the wrong reasons. The enemy's aim is so godlike it feels like playing CS:GO on a cheater server. You raise your head or peek around a corner... BLAM! You're dead. One shot, one kill. Random mooks standing in the open, armed with an unscoped AK-47 that's been around since the Vietnam War, are perfectly capable of headshotting your elite sniper clad in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing the original Ghost Recon in 2026 hits completely differently when you realize Ron was my kind-hearted woodshop teacher, and happened to be a Green Beret. The game's “Ghosts” are fictional, but they're heavily rooted in the world of U.S. Army Special Forces. So while I'm crawling toward rebel guard posts and clearing camps in this game, I'm suddenly thinking: holy freaking cow, my high school woodshop teacher was actually from the kind of military background this game is trying to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely playable, tried using some mods and eventually in the campaign it started to take a ♥♥♥♥.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →close quarters fighting is literally unmatched in any shooter since. modding community is great. only real issue is the graphics but thats understandable of course. out paces arma 3 in many fields. edit: ai sucks buts let be real it also sucks in most other games including "cutting edge" shooters. ill take occasional stuck bots over the phasing through walls and failing to follow simple waypoints that modern titles give us.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wish I could give out a mix review but it is what it is is this game good? yes will I ever replay this game again? ♥♥♥♥ NO the enemies are super human in this game and its expansions. they can hit you with an LMG from across the map and still hit you with pin point accuracy if you want a better experience check out the heroes unleashed mod for this game I sometimes open up furry porn in public
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best tactical shooter i've ever played. hands down. I wish ubisoft didn't make the series more arcadey, this has really good gameplay that still holds up today
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game will turn you into a sexual tyranasaur, just like me
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played on consoles first, but once I played on PC I realized that was the true way to play. Even with how old this game is I had so much fun with this and the 2 extensions (Desert Siege and Island Thunder). The maps are pretty massive for the time, and it's seems the way to accomplish that was with a silent hill type fog system (Or night/rainy levels). I'm kind of a perfectionist with these games, trying not to get injured and resetting on a team members death. Also I personally had more fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is broken. Friendly tanks do not move, which makes it impossible to finish the mission where you have to escort friendly tanks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant shooter from when Ubisoft actually made good games that weren't open world and monetised beyond recognition
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d only recommend this game to those feeling nostalgic for this game as there’s several problems with its gameplay. First and foremost, the combat is just not fun. This game attempts to be realistic by making bullets lethal in one to two shots, which is a good thing. However, this combines with classic AI issues meaning that some enemy AI will just laser lock you from render distance, and AI close quarters will target you through the walls and shoot you the moment you peek a corner. These…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic. Tactical. Difficult. Rewarding. Play it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old, clunky, unbalanced Enemy encounters are as brutal as Sniper class is OP. Engage in fair combat - you will take losses. Take a sniper and solo wipe out the whole map - you win. Have a mission where you have to rely on other troop members to defend certain position, when the enemy count is too high - well, on max difficulty they will just die regardless of what you do. You have to defend that stupid position, so you leave troops there, and you can't solo the enemy army properly in time,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work on Windows 11. I was really excited to play this on my brand new gaming pc. I had only played both PS2 and original Xbox versions. I was so disappointed when I realized the game doesn't work on anything other than the base low resolution. If I tried to change the resolution to anything higher, it would go windowed mode, then crash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a lot of this game on the original Xbox and this version works fine. No complaints there. This version looks like it's better than the Xbox version was. All that said, sorry, but it just didn't age well at all. Mostly it's the AI being able to ignore cover and take impossible shots. Back in 2002, 2003, that was an issue too and I remember people complaining about it, but if you got good you knew how the AI worked. I knew to shoot and then move back and bait the AI into looking for me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mission 1 done. It's very old. Like, very very old. The textures are ancient, like your wrinkly old grandma. It's so old that it screws up your screen resolution and moves your windows around. Runs on Win10 okay. The squad gameplay is okay. It's a bit more arcade-y than Arma, but also plays more easily. Less detailed and simpler than Arma. The enemies have perfect aim and immediately know where you are... sometimes? But then sometimes they seem to forget in the middle of a firefight? F6 to…

I am very very fortunate that this game still exist and I am able to play it on my new hardware. Its a action packed shooter with realistic gameplay and mechanics. I still enjoy every moment of this game and every area from my heart. I just love it. Try it out and you won't be disappointed.
