At first, the game feels okay, but the deeper you get, the worse it becomes. "Your pet is fleeing. Your pet is hurt. Your pet has fled." The pet quickly becomes practically useless on hard difficulty. This is hardly a reliable companion, but rather a sad parody of a mercenary. The small inventory space fills up with stacks of potions, scrolls, and runes, which leaves you with little room for anything else. The …

A great game at a great price, you can't go wrong with Torchlight. With lots of gear to pick up, including rare and epic level items, you can really go loot crazy, but at the same time leveling and skills play an integral part in how your character plays the game. Torchlight definitely shows its age, but at its core it's still quite fun to play. Grab some quality-of-life mods, and maybe a texture pack, then enjoy a Diablo-like from back before everything became an online only live service game. 💁🏻‍♀️ If the game feels too easy for you, give the "Very Hard Hardcore" run a try. 😉

Torchlight's a very fun ARPG with great combat; it's pretty easy to pick up and play, and it has stylized graphics, so it aged pretty well; it has a superb soundtrack composed by Matt Uelmen (who also worked on Diablo 2); it has 3 classes to choose from, each with their unique skill trees and even pet companions that can be used to sell your loot without returning to town. Plus, there are mods if you ever get bored …

Critics, per Wikipedia

Torchlight received positive reviews; the PC release currently holds a score of 83 out of 100 on Metacritic while the Xbox 360 release holds a score of 81 out of 100. Writing for RPGamer, staff reviewer Anna Marie Neufeld praised Torchlight's "phenomenal music and great art direction" as well as its addictive combat but criticized the game's storyline as shallow. Rock, Paper, Shotgun reviewer John Walker found the core gameplay to be a highly focused and engaging refinement of the dungeon crawl genre, albeit one with a "tissue-thin" story and quests. In his review in Game Informer, Adam Biessener listed responsive controls, attractive animations and effects, and clever enemy designs as some…

In the Steam post about the new updates, the new dev team is pretty open about using AI, so it's not putting words in anyone's mouth. Just an FYI. Another thing I found interesting is that these new devs are the same ones that work in Torchlight Infinite. I know that game wasn't well received at launch, but if it's still going, maybe they've fixed their issues, so there could be cause to be hopeful about them fiddling with the old games.

Torchlight is basically a hybrid RPG of Dungeons & Dragons, Diablo, and Warcraft... only extremely light. You choose one of 3 classes: Destroyer, Alchemist, and Vanquisher... It's 100% single-player offline (no online features, BUT you can add mods). You gradually level up as you progress! At a certain point, it's enjoyable to play, and it's worth it because it will take MANY, MANY hours to get 100% completion and platinum! For lovers of D&D, Diablo, and Warcraft... there's a good chance…

Torchlight is a fantastic ARPG experience that keeps things simple yet fun to take part in. The graphics are cartoony style, akin to the time it was made and overall stand the test of time. Its quirky yet diverse in its build options with multiple ways to branch a character. The level design is simple and doesnt stray too out of the realm of safe, but a endless dungeon available at the end. Overall if your looking for a fun yet simple ARPG to dip your toes into, this would be the game.

You got some decent answers, but let me give you a more direct one. *NetHack* is a derivative of *Hack*, and together they are the most successful "Roguelike." A Roguelike is a game that is literally like *Rogue*. *Rogue* was the basis for Hack in the same way that *Wasteland* was the basis for *Fallout*. Everyone knows *Fallout*, not many people know *Wasteland*. *Rogue* came first and set the standard, then *Hack* came along and made it way better. Then *NetHack* and that's what we have now.…

Torchlight This review comes from someone who has played many ARPGs but isn't a hardcore player or a completionist. Here are some of my thoughts. I played as a Destroyer on hard difficulty, using Berserker and Spectral skills. Pros Clear UI. Can get pretty addictive. Has all the mechanics and features you'd expect from an ARPG, although the systems themselves aren't particularly deep. Large variety of skills. My only issue was that putting points into some skills…

One of the best Diablo clones out there. Torchlight was a nice surprise in this genre that was mostly dominated by Diablo 2 for decades. It plays similarly, in a isometric view but with 3d visuals. The plot is about a magic element called ember that gives magic powers. People coming to harvest it get down in the dungeons and find how the ember also corrupted past civilizations and are now creatures of all kinds. The game is splitted into 35 floors, with zones or regions changing every 4…

Actually, it is almost identical to Diablo 1. Even the music seems identical. But I do know that TL does have some of the same people working on it and it was made as a homage to Diablo (or similar games) that came before it. So I thought it was brilliant. While it could have had a bit more depth and a less cliched story, it still holds up quite nicely. As a single player dungeon crawler I really can not fault it much.
