Poor man's Monster Hunter clone. The port isn't great, crappy textures, frame rate loss in some areas. The combat is nowhere near as good as MH. It tries to stand out with it's fast flashy attacks probably taken from DW or SW. Spend your money elsewhere, especially since Koei never drops most of their games past 50%.

In short: it's ok. If Steam had "meh" rating, that would be it. Take a look at Toukiden 2 first, it's better in almost every way. Hunt giant monsters, craft gear from their bodies, hunt more giant monsters. Rinse, repeat. Sounds like Monster Hunter? Yes, it does. Only monsters are Oni and there's a lot of semi-historical Japanese fluff all around. And multiplayer is somewhat stilted compared to MH. The single-player …

Seems like the people who don't like this game only want to complain about framerate and graphics and such. These are the people that don't get that graphics and framerate have very little to do with whether a game is fun. I was on the fence about getting this one, except I noticed most of the reviews are all about framerate, or that you need a controller, or about porting this from a console. I got the game on sale ( $30 ) and just have fun fightning monsters and such. Some people don't…

As a monster hunter and Dark Souls fan, this game is worth it. While, on its face, one might readily assume it to be a Monster Hunter Clone ported to PC, there's a lot more to this game than that. Saying this is a "just" a Monster Hunter clone is like saying Pillars of Eternity is "just" a Baldur's Gate clone. When, in reality, both of those games are building on the series they reference by adding new mechanics and systems and building on the game design. Rifles for example have been…

I wish steam had "neutral" review feature. Either way, review time. You should probably buy Toukiden 2 instead. This game ain't bad. However, Toukiden 2 is superior to it in every single aspect, so if you're looking for a monster hunter experience on PC, you definitely should go and grab toukiden 2. It is much, much, much, much, much better than this title. Now, if you're dead set on buying this game and not Toukiden 2.... Have you ever heard the saying "being pecked to death by a duck?".…

The game looks promising but there are many issues that must be addrressed before playing. The game has the option for very high detail but if you raise it all the way it will most likely not work well since the game wasn't intended to be thar high quality. The controls are restricted to controller so just trying to make a character took 25 minutes for me because I had no Idea what my keyboard keys equaled up to when comparing it to a xbox or ps3 controller. If you go into seetings you can see…

I think of Koei-Tecmo as a kind of two headed ogre, the ungainly fusion of two wholly separate giants I remember roaming the land of my memories of youth. On one hand, Tecmo is known for over-the-top, unforgivingly fast paced games like the Ninja Gaiden series and cheesecake/beefcake heavy fighting franchise Dead or Alive, while Koei is best known as a publisher of borderline educational and contemplative "historic simulation" strategy games, such as Nobunaga's Ambition, with some forays into…

In the first few 10's of hours I couldn't help but feel like I was playing a lesser Monster Hunter(MH) game. As I put more time into this game I came to realize it has a surpringle deep combat system and the macro strategy(in town) is very different from MH. Armor crafting in particlular is very simplified compared to how MH does crafting. The whole crafting and gathering of non boss materials is streamlined in comparrison to MH. If you really enjoyed taking pickaxes out on gathering quests and…

To get rid of several problems (including crashes) even with Windows 7 installed, compatibility-mode for Windows 7 is recommended; aswell as the usage of a (XBox-)controller, because it's nearly unplayable without one. It also has a 30 FPS-lock. Just try out if you can play it properly and, if not, refund it before you played more than 2 hours, but don't expect to get a deep insight to the game in those 2 hours. English is not my first language, sorry. I'm playing with a friend and we are…

Toukiden is one of my most beloved games of all time. I've clocked well over 200 hours on Toukiden Kiwami on ps vita alone and this is my third time buying it and now I'm going through it on PC. The vanilla release Toukiden has about 100 hours worth going through the main story and quests, then you have the expansion Kiwami, which includes the base game and adds new weapons, mitama playstyles, and another 100 hours of content. Imagine porting a PC game to console and making the analog sticks not work, and making you need a mouse to look around instead. This game does that, but the inverse. Keyboard controls, but no mouse controls whatsoever. Clicking literally minimizes your game. There's no controller control layout. And the tutorial doesn't teach you jack about how to do anything. You have to spend two hours on google to understand anything about this game.

Many people say this game is nearly a copy of Monster Hunter, this is true but personally I think a combo of Monster Hunter and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is more accurate. The game itself is Solid, The fighting is well made and lack of invincibility frames makes the game very challenging due to the fact if you get hit by one ability, chances are you are getting smacked till death. Similar to the Monster Hunter series in reguards of Weapon types and overall combat types this game can stand out as its easier to customize your fighting style with the "Mitama" which are the spirits~ usable in your weapons that can alter your fighting styles. As an Omega fan and a HUGE Dynasty Warriors fan, I paid full price of £50 and I was expecting big things from them with a Co-op hack and slash. However this falls short for a few reasons: 1) The combat is fixed and not fluid - for example, it is hard to direct your attacks after you make the initial swing 2) The inbetween battles is very much like DW empires, where you upgrade weapons etc. Very boring 3) In battle, you have the smallest arena to fight, and there is a loading screen between…

While the gameplay is enjoyable, the game's status as a port becomes glaringly apparent, with technical issues hindering the overall experience. The controls, originally tailored for handheld devices, feel clunky and unwieldy on a standard gaming setup, making it evident that the transition to other platforms wasn't seamless. Moreover, the steep price tag doesn't align with the game's apparent lack of polish and originality, feeling more like Koei Tecmo's attempt to replicate the success of…

I've also played the original version Age of Demons (PS Vita), and Kiwami (PS4) for over 100 hours total. Kiwami is basically an expansion of the original AoD with tons of improvements throughout, better team AI, more weapons, more mitama, more features, etc. This as a port is missing a few things for a PC release. You still can't really customize controls, and it's probably still best to just use a controller. And it's locked to 30fps since the animation is tied to framerate. You can play…

Please Tecmo, if you really want people to purchase and/or even want to try out the game, you have to recuce and price and make it more affordable. For a game that retails $60, the graphics are rough, the gameplay is repetitive, the dialogue isn't very interesting, and I found myself running through levels just to get them finished without any intention of killing everything on my screen because it got boring waaaaaaaay too fast. The game is shallow on just about all fronts. The traditional Koei -…

Solid monster slaying game, great button mashing fun with plenty of content! Worth getting if you enjoy the "game loop" of the "Monster Hunter" series. Interesting setting and story as well if you enjoy that sorta thing but no, it's not really that relevant though. Cut up all them Oni's, get loot, repeat. Please note: The game has some technical issues when played on Win10 systems (This is easily fixed with compability mode set to win7). Also noticed lighting flickering between missions but…

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. This isn't a Monster Hunter clone. Monster Hunter was a lot better than this. No, this game is a Phantasy Star clone with the Monster Hunter crafting system tossed in. Not really a bad thing, it actually works pretty well, BUT... -Being locked at 30fps and dropping in town or certain areas, WITH the physics engine tied to the framerate is a dealbreaker in this game. -The fights all play out the same, you take a weapon in, you slaughter a hoard or boss,…

Well, I guess the negative reviews here are not that relevant. If you love Monster Hunter and nothing but Monster Hunter you shouldn't get this. But if you love Monster Hunter and if you're ready to get an awesome Monster Hunter-like game - you should get this. My PS4 Controller works fine on it. !!!!!! YOU SHOULD NOT BUY THIS IF YOU DONT OWN ANY CONTROLLER!!!! Anyway. I guess it's worth the money, when it is on sale... Not as much content as, lets say Monster Hunter 4 but it does have…

Toukiden: Kiwami is a substantial hunting action RPG that combines large-scale monster battles with Japanese mythology, historical influences, equipment crafting, character progression, and cooperative play. Developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., it casts the player as a Slayer responsible for protecting humanity from enormous supernatural creatures called Oni. Its basic progression loop is easy to understand: accept missions, defeat enemies, collect materials, improve…

This game is the combination of the original game Toukiden: Age of Demons and the expansion Kiwami. The story mode has 13 chapters with most chapters having around 20 missions. You play as a SLAYER who has recently come to the village as a new recruite. Off the bat monsters start attacking and you quickly prove you are no normal fighter. As you progress you find out why these monsters are attacking and the backstory to all the other slayers in the village. As far as story goes, the game does a…

Toukiden Kiwami ("TK") is perfect for Monster Hunter ("MH") fans. Here are the similarities and differences that I find between TK and MH: Similarities: - Hunt monsters for body parts to craft stronger armors and weapons - MH have water, thunder, fire, and ice elements. TK have all of them with additional elements such as earth, wind, and sky. - Complete quest, each phase introduce new and stronger monsters. - TK has 3 Non-Playable Characters ("NPC") as your hunting companions. MH: your…

I don't understand. I bought this just because I wanted to play a Monster type Monster Hunter game even if the game was broken... and... It not broken for me. It actually works perfectly... The hell? I'm using Windows 10.... >When started the game, it popped up a launcher >It was in Japanese? I clicked on the 1st right button, which turns out to be a reset button >It switched to English and I changed my resolution to 1280 x 720 / 1280 x 768 > Changed all the textures to high Game settings:…

Toukiden is about as close as Steam users will get to playing Monster Hunter on PC besides God Eater. (EDIT: Hey Monster Hunter is on PC now!) That isn't a bad thing at all, because Toukiden is a super enjoyable game. Its very easy to learn how to play and extremely challenging to master. The PC port had a ton of issues at launch (most of which have been fixed) and I had a few crashes using Windows 10 but once I switched on Windows 7 Compatbility Mode I haven't had a single issue with…

the rare moment in time when KT puts Toukiden 2 on sale. Very cool early open world hunting game that swung for the fences and didn't quite hit a homerun. store.steampowered.com/app/551730/T...
