Seeing this was on sale again, felt like I should make a quick review of it. First off: The online multiplayer doesn't work. The game's been out for years, but hasn't been patched at all. Obviously the online is pretty dead now - but if you're planning to play with friends, you might not be able to. With that aside: I'm a big fan of games like this and Monster Hunter. Toukiden has some cool build variety due to its …

Toukiden 2 is by far the most interesting Monster-Hunter-Like. You may be wondering why. Because it actually innovates on its own series mechanics, and the genre's fundamental mechanics. An accomplishment that very few MH-likes manage or even try to achieve. Toukiden 2 is also the most depressing MH-Like because the game is dead. Even during publisher sales Toukiden 2 remains a staggering 66.49 CDN. For reference it …

After putting close to 350 hours into the game, I feel like I have experienced enough in it to write this review. (I don't write them unless I've truly played them through.) Most people will be looking at this game as a MH clone or some other copy. To which I would say yes it certainly has similar gameplay features, if it means being a human fighting some large creature, then yes. However, this game does stand out …

This game lets you rip a demon’s arm off and beat it with it. You have a magic ghost hand, anime swords, and a map full of eldritch nightmares just begging for a whoopin’. Open world? Kinda. Story? Who cares. Combat? Chef’s kiss. More limbs fly off than in a Mortal Kombat tournament. KOEI TECMO, I’m begging—Toukiden 3 when??

It's dated and a little janky because of that, but one of the few MH style games to really experiment with the genre. The movement abilities, weapons, monster styles, and dismemberment mechanics are great fun, giving it a fast action feel while making the oni still feel like a threat. I'd buy Toukiden 3 in a heartbeat.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, if you like Monster Hunter, you should try this game, but mind you this is more action focused than the latter. And if you hate new gen Monster Hunter like me, this is a great option to that 😎
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MH Wilds wishing it was half as good as this godtier game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels more like Toukiden 1.5 And not in a good way, I loved the first one but this one feel as old as the first, clunky gameplay and horrible graphics. I had to ask for a refund, the game feels and plays worse than the first one, looks like a PS2 game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a old game, that has some flaws to get it working right, but if you take the time to do so, its a realy fun game! I have it physical on PS4 and PSVita! <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grind paradise First, we need to address the elephant in the room - constant Monster Hunter references. It's obvious that people will compare it to the much bigger franchise due to the similar idea and mechanics but i think it should be taken as a compliment. The core gameplay is focused on fighting with monsters - they are split into few groups, small, medium and large and the last group is the one you will constantly hunt for. Every monster has its weakness which you can exploit - cutting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would def recommend, but I'm a little confused about the difficulty. When doing things with the main quest line with the main characters with you, the fights are all a breeze, but then the minute you go out exploring and have to solo a real boss, suddenly you're scrambling for your life, so it makes it feel like you're being carried by the npcs, which is more than a little bit embarrassing. So I'm confused. Is my gear ass? Am I tackling these bosses before I am supposed to? what's the deal? Am…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some people might compare this to Monster Hunter. They would be right. But I think it's closer to God Eater than MH in terms of combat feel. Some would also comment that it looks like Samurai Warriors. They would also be correct. Weapons feel floaty. The attack weights of the sword and the club feel exactly the same. There are loads of particle effects on screen when all four members of the team whack something in the face. Pair that up with skills effects emanating from the team, you will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Monster Hunter with japanese demon (Oni). Well after playing Monster Hunter Rise it feel so similar with grappling etc but bit more Fast-Paced. and i feel bad just found out about this game recently
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really fun and I like it more than MH Wilds in some ways. Companions you can level up and get their unique weapons, characters are more interesting, story is actually decent, weapons are super fun and the mitama system adds a lot of versatility to the experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely not on Monster Hunter’s level, but still a solid alternative. A decent experiment with an open world.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →T2 is an excellent action game, similar to monster hunter, but with a better, more involved story and a (mostly) open world to explore. The world is divided into Ages, and you must get X far within each one to unlock the quick travel to it, in order to complete the quests contained within. The npcs/teammates who accompany you on your missions, and the story are better than the MH series and play a big part in keeping things interesting rather than just the hunt/carve/upgrade cycle. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like Monster Hunter? This is the question that should be considering when you are thinking of getting this game. If your answer is no, then please stop reading here. This game won't offer you a new experience that will change your perspective. Gameplay: TLDR: You kill demons (oni). You harvest the body parts by "purifying" the parts you cut off. You make gear with slightly bloody demon body parts. Rinse, repeat. Monster hunter, but with demons. There are multiple types of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toukiden 2, developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., is a compelling action RPG that builds on the foundations of its predecessors while introducing new elements to create a more expansive and immersive experience. Set in a beautifully crafted world besieged by monstrous demons called Oni, the game places players in the role of a Slayer tasked with defending humanity from these deadly threats. Unlike many games in the genre, Toukiden 2 embraces an open-world structure, allowing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In case people complaining about how terrible the optimization of this game. Check first if you are running this game with your GPU. At default, Toukiden 2 will run with your integrated graphics. Go to your System Settings > Display > Graphics, and add Toukiden 2's exe file and set to high performance. If that fixes your issue, you're welcome in advance. Anyway, for my review. This game is a 10/10 to me. Below is my detailed scoring. ---{ Graphics }--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☑…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game if you're looking for a fast-paced RPG-ish game that's all about killing big monsters Basically, you spend 5-15 minutes beating the living daylights out of gigantic monster with a group of friends (AI, unless you have friends who play this), ripping off its limbs only to later use them as material for new weapons and armor. If this sounds fun, this might be a game for you. Doesn't matter if you don't have friends, since the AI is very competent. Almost too competent. Not only is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the rare moment in time when KT puts Toukiden 2 on sale. Very cool early open world hunting game that swung for the fences and didn't quite hit a homerun. store.steampowered.com/app/551730/T...
neutral · AI labelView post →It is an ok hunting game. However, it has no mouse support and you need three hands to play it with keyboard.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can't save manually after doing ruins-dungeons or whatever just go to the overworld and fight a world-boss, can be any type in any zone,... After the figth you can save... There, I saved you a lot of progress, gg.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you can collect tiny foxes. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toukiden (TKD) 2 is a decent monster hunting game that has a good story, fast paced action, less tedium and just as grindy. In this game, you hunt Onis, rip their parts off (and gloat), only to realize that they've suddenly become even more dangerous! TKD2 has a compelling story and its storytelling is well executed. This is supported by a cast of likeable characters and great voice acting (♥♥♥ dub only) that kept me wanting to see more of it - imo, the biggest strength of the game. The story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old monster hunter but faster. Though it kind of feels more like a traditional RPG than a MH-like. The goal is to drain the monster's HP before you run out of resources, instead of dancing with the monster, sneaking in hits, and punishing openings. I'd recommend MHW over this, but this pretty decent if you're just looking for more hunting content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After seeing Monster Hunter go downhill thanks to Capcom making the stupid decision to allow woke localizers into the development centers, causing their games to be loaded with ESG DEI ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I, as a longtime Monster Hunter fan who had to STOP playing Monster Hunter Rise & World after having just gotten started on both after learning they were retroactively adding Denuvo to all their games specifically to PREVENT modding in any form, even just AESTHETIC modding, I bought this game & all its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a world overrun by Oni. A group called as Slayers devote themselves protecting lives and eradicating the menace. Born in this is the strong friendship and will to overcome each obstacles. The game itself has strong world building, satisfying gameplay, captivating soundtrack and positvely emotional story. The mechanics are simple and easy to grasp, with the twist of having the aid of the spirit of "Mitamas", cards containing portraits of historical and fictional characters from japanese…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's too much unsubbed dialogue that's not combat banter, allies are sharing contextual information and you don't know what they're saying. That coupled with the high asking price (it should be 20$ cheaper) means I just can't recommend the game. A shame since the game is a serious improvement on the previous entry in every other department.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where to begin? The first thing that struck me about Toukiden 2, other than the incredible art direction, was the rich character creation. There are seventy-three hair styles alone, and it should be noted that you can freely redesign your character from your home, whenever you wish. Ease, and joy of play, are recurring themes with this game. It's fast, easy to grasp, and immediately rewarding. Conventions from similar games such as crafting, enhancing, even inventory management, etc. are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a lot of fun with this game. It's janky and feels dated, but the story is good and the combat is enjoyable. Buy it on sale, not worth the full price, though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While there are some things (quest area markers) that would improve the game a tiny bit, its honestly a fun game. And the story line itself is amazing. I have had this game on PS4 for years and my PS4 crapped out on me and I couldn't play it anymore until I finally found it on Steam and have relished the chance to play it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play this game years after its original release date, but I can pretty much say that it's like timeless franchise that will give you the same excitement no matter what era of video game you are living in. (no pun intended cuz.. it's touki(time) den (journey).. get it?) ANYWAY.... The graphic looks amazing for the game standard in its time, the customization is diverse, the costume/fashion is insanely creative and limitless (there is actually time for me to spend hours just to hold fashion…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow start but surprisingly addicting. I find it fun and an excellent time killer. Looks somewhat dated but forgivable considering the amount of fun I had.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked this up because I wanted a game with a Japanese setting and atmosphere, but didn't feel ready to tackle Nioh or Sekiro. I'm satisfied so far, but I'd add a few caveats, at least up to the point where I am at the time of writing this, a couple hours into the game. I did get my fix for the atmosphere of a fantasy Japan I was looking for. The buildings, NPCs' costumes, Oni designs and voice work really helps put players in that setting. The voice work is noteworthy for not having any of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite some jank, outdated visuals, plot conveniences, dull moments in the open world and repeated regular enemies, this is a great time for a Monster Hunter fan. Different weapons with unique playstyles, lots of huge bosses with variety of locals, coupled with interesting mechanics like cutting limbs, grabbing/attacking enemies with a semi hookshot. The story actually is interesting, albeit, it falls into some anime-esque moments and dialogue, with characters ending up like archetypes. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →monster hunter but based and with cooler weapons
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →okish, but ... Monster Hunter > God Eater > Toukiden
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoying it so far. Similar to Monster Hunter games, but with a much more fast paced combat. Different weapons have very different movesets, good variety of possible styles. Armor is a lot less interesting without all the armor skills, but we equip "souls" with skills (both passive, active and triggered) instead so it makes up for that. One big positive is that the story and characters so far are at least decent enough to hold my attention, which is a trillion times better than any Monster…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game because I thought it looked like a great way to segue from Monster Hunter. And I ended up being incredibly disappointed by it. I do not feel it did anything well. It wasn't horrible per se, but it was just incredibly bland. The gameplay was very floaty and completely unsatisfying. It just felt like a slog to get through. It also had a really intrusive story I did not entertaining at all. If you thought MHW's story felt tacked on, you'll absolutely hate how in-your-face and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the kind of game that you can just replay and replay and replay. It is very much a fun, lore rich world, with interesting enemies and a beautiful art style with unique weapons and mechanics! While yes it does not compare graphically to other games, this game is a good example of when graphics do not matter, for the game is just too much fun to play. I originally had this on Xbox 360, and when I found it again on Steam, you bet your keesters I bought it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Co-op completely unsatisfying. Desync means you and your friends may as well be playing alone and just describing the fight over voice chat. No use to me.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've noticed a pattern. So far Both Wild Hearts and Wo Long had like 5 fps when attempting to play them on steam, but we can now officially add Toukiden 2 to this list. That's THREE games from Koei Tecmo that have run absolutely abysmally so far from this same developer. Now at first I thought "Oh wild hearts and wo long are new generation games and thus maybe they're using unreal 5 and my computer just isn't good enough to play these games", but Toukiden 2 came out 7 years ago. Toukiden 2…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game. And a fun game. But if I was you, I'd play Nioh 2 and take a break for 1 year and then play this one. Also, this & Nioh 2 are better than Monster Hunter. Though, God Eater 3 might be also fun for you. So I'd maybe do: Nioh 2 -> Toukiden 2 or God Eater 3. Code Vein is similar, too, though. So you're spoiled for choice. They all scratch a similar itch, so you can just play one of them and wait 4 months and then pick another from the list. This has the best story out of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda like Monster hunter but less annoying. Pros + No handler. + No loading screens. + Can see enemy health bar. + Can see how soon parts will break. Con - I just can't make my character look good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will Continue Review Later, I use a PS4 gamepad and this game is very fun. I like the gameplay very much. It's an open world version of Toukiden, which I find much more fitting that the usual spawn in kind of maps from Tokiden: Kiwami. I am sad that the Kiwami characters are missing, but it's cool that you can wear the classical characters' outifts.
