[1][2][3] Many reviewers highlight the game's chaotic and fun competitive versus mode, though some note the lack of online multiplayer. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the inability to remap controls and the game's limited appeal without local friends. [7][8]

TowerFall Ascension is a super fun local party game. I’ve put several hours into it on PS4, both solo and with friends. It has tight controls, great style, and addicting gameplay. But the lack of online multiplayer is a huge letdown. It’s frustrating that the devs won’t even consider online play. They have plenty of "reasons," but honestly, lots of fast-paced games make online work just fine these days. Instead of …

Stellar game with impecable pixelgraphics and precise and fun to learn movement. Coop is fun, but Versus is where the meat of the game is. I mainly write this review now, because the person i shared those 40 hours i played this game recently decided to leave this world behind and that brought me down the memory lane. There were many hours spent in my 20s just playin with them through the whole night and havin a …

Solid game, but how does this not have online co-op / pvp? Seems like a basic feature a game that pretty much relies on you playing with your friends would have. It was quite disappointing to find out it doesn't exist, so buyer beware.

TowerFall is my family's go-to game for 4-player single-screen couch multiplayer, and while we prefer deathmatch to co-op, both modes are excellent. This game is so finely tuned and brilliantly executed that it's easy to teach to new people but also well worth your trouble to take time to master. The music and graphics are also incredible, and I love the arrow variety and tactics that arise from the simple level …

Towerfall Ascension is a 2d archery-platforming game taking place in one-screen "arenas" with enemies coming by waves. To win, you must defeat all enemies in all waves. The originality here is that you have a very limited number of starting arrows, and it's not easy to get more, so you're constantly scrambling to get them back through agile platforming. Plus the arrows don't fly straight but in arcs for a certain …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Multiple reviewers cited TowerFall as the standout game for the Ouya microconsole at the time of its launch. The Penny Arcade Report's Ben Kuchera called the game "the Ouya's killer app", Polygon's Russ Frushtick and Chris Plante said that TowerFall was the reason to purchase an Ouya. Destructoid's Spencer Hayes said that he did not consider purchasing the Ouya until he played TowerFall. He added that the game had a "deceptive level of depth". Eurogamer described its reputation as "the only thing worth playing on Ouya". The added cost of additional controllers (for four-player local multiplayer) exceeded the cost of the new console itself, and was cited as a negative for the game, though…

60 of 199 · most liked firstWhat genre is Towerfall Ascension, and do you have any favorite examples?. I'm specifically asking about the PvP part of the game. This kind of game is my kid's favorite; we frequently play *Towerfall*, *Duck Game*, *Rounds*, and *Hyper Contender* (from UFO50). It's so hard to find other games in this genre, because I don't know the standardized name, if it even has one, so I figured I'd ask here. What do you call low TTK platformer PvP shooting games? Do you have a favorite?

Plate Up is somewhat simmiliar to overcooked, but is more about process optimisation and not about dealing with the oddities of a stage. Most lego games also offer local coop and are good fun. 30xx is a roguelite with gameplay simmiliar to MegaMan X that can be played by 2 players. Towerfall Ascension is also worth a look. Hell Divers is also a great game, but it had sound issues(strange…

Also played some Towerfall Ascension which is a BANGER local multiplayer game and Days Gone. Forgot how good that game was.

Way different than Mario Kart so it won't be a repetitive experience for them. This is the Steam-based couch coop that's lasted longest in my friends group. **Tricky Towers** Tetris game, but the catch is you build upwards to a finish line and physics play a role, so the tower can lean and collapse. **TowerFall Ascension** Competitive platformer…

One of the reasons why did become a game developer. I definitally have more than 1000 hours easy, considering the 8 players version. He game feels amazing to play, many absurd moments. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Back in the good old days, this was one of our go-to party games when I was still playing on console. Now, one of my friends is moving to another country very soon, and we are going to play it again for nostalgic reasons. The controls of this game are so tight and responsive that you can hardly find other games from different developers that come close to it. Every death feels really fair. You won’t be surprised that this developer later made Celeste after you try this game. There are some…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite couch co-op game of all time. Simple to learn but hard to master. So incredibly well-made, I'm still discovering amazing little details I didn't know about even after sinking 100+ hours into this one (mostly on PS4). I bought it on Steam now too after getting rid of the playstation. Nothing as fun as getting 2-4 friends shooting arrows at each other. We turn on trigger corpses so you can manually explode after you die and can still kill someone else if they don't pay attention…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →!!! DO NOT BUY IF YOU DON'T USE AN XBOX360 CONTROLLER OR AMERICAN KEYBOARD LAYOUT !!! Honestly, trying to play this game for an hour was the worst gaming experience I have had in my life. The problem? You cannot change the key bindings. Like at all. There even is a menu option but not only is it terribly designed, it also does not work at all. What is more, the controls for my Gamepad are entirely shuffled, not one button is where it's meant to be. Like the start button is on RT, jump and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is so good, a perfect party game in my opinion. Controls are really easy to get into but there is still a really high skill ceiling. The singleplayer is really good too, a very big variety of difficult levels. There is also unlockables and funny achivements after each versus round. Really good game, most underrated game in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very easy to learn game that is so chaotic that it doesn't really matter how good you get, there's always the chance of you losing given how much chaos ensues. The amount of times I wave-dashed, into a double wall-jump, stomped on another player, and grabbed a third players arrow then shot the fourth player only for one of those arrows to fall back down and on top of me once more to then kill me and make me lose the point are more than I can count... ... And it was such a blast. 10/10 would…

positive · AI labelView post →KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW Sorry to spoil your cheerings, but I did not find this game to be funny enough. It's a single screen arena platform only playable in local co-op. You are archers. Aim. Shoot. Jump. Power-ups. Pixels. Should be a nice party game... I guess? It's not something I'd play with my friends. Best played with joypad Recommended buy price: 1$ Score: 5/10

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TowerFall Ascension builds upon the foundation of the original game, offering a polished and expanded experience that has become a staple for fans of fast-paced, competitive multiplayer. Drawing inspiration from the golden era of couch co-op games, it’s designed primarily as a local party game where up to four players engage in chaotic, arrow-shooting battles filled with both humor and intensity. The gameplay is straightforward enough to pick up quickly, yet layered with enough depth and nuance…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TowerFall Ascension is at its best when played in couch co-op with friends. It’s fast, straightforward and delivers honest, no-frills gameplay that can be a lot of fun. The simplicity works well, even if it means the overall package feels a bit limited at times. If you enjoy local multiplayer games and want something easy to pick up and play, this one is definitely worth a look.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I already own almost every game in this bundle and I can vouch for its high value for families or people who want to play couch co-op. $10 is a great price. Towerfall Ascension is worth the price of admission alone! It's one of the best local multiplayer games I know, and even non-gamers love it!
positive · AI labelView post →Earthblade - the new game by Celeste and TowerFall Ascension studio @exokgames.bsky.social has been cancelled. See the statement below. I loved both of their games and still have a very special relationship to TowerFall with my friends, so I was really looking forward to it.
positive · AI labelView post →As the precursor to Celeste, Towerfall brings much of the same platforming fluidity to a local multiplayer game. I haven't gotten a full group for competitive play, but singleplayer and co-op are pretty fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Towerfall is great, a great staple game over the many years I have had it. This game is a masterpiece. The ONLY ask I'd ever have, and I'd even buy a pointless 1:1 "remaster" of the game with no additional content for, is true online play. Remote play is great but it's not quite the same. Hell even if it was DLC I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having 100 community made maps installed is a great time. There's a lot of great and dumb things you can add, tho I wish the game had a better way to sort them. Would also love if workshop characters were available, but I'm sure that's not going to happen this late into the game's life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm surprised I've never left a review for Towerfall because it is probably my favorite game of all time. It has been the go to party game for my family and the one I reach for often to play with friends. I'm always taken aback when people say they haven't heard of Towerfall because it is genuinely so good and absolutely timeless. One of the unsung strengths of Towerfall is the variants. Lots of party games have variants or modifiers but very few allow you to choose them per player. This…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent time alone or with friends. Sometimes, it gets a little too hectic. Some enemy patterns are cheap. A few target test maps are needlessly difficult. But it's a good time all around. The moment to moment gameplay and decision making is exciting. If you have a good group of friends, go for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun game to play with friends, and a good challenge in the story mode (especially when doing hard core)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →God, I miss 2014. This is one of the best couch multiplayer games I've ever played. Even though it's skill-based, with low RNG, the game tends to self-balance over time as losing players get buffs and players tend to gang up on the lead player. The mechanics are accesible, yet the skill ceiling is much higher than you'd expect. If you can get the 8-player version, you'll have the best local party game ever made. Maddy Makes Games I'm sorry I took so long to leave a review.

positive · AI labelView post →Gameplay is centered around mechanics trade-offs, which provides a healthy skill ladder and replayability. It reminds me of Nidhogg - simple concept, polished gameplay. This is a well-balanced PvP platformer focused on very fast rounds of gameplay against local friends. The whole map fits on screen, which can be a lot to process visually with 4 players. It also has some good levels of customization in the darkworld expansion if you get it. Cons: This game prefers 60 FPS, 1920x1080 resolution…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Towerfall has Super Smash Bros energy and is very funny to play with 4p couch co-op/versus (with Darkworld expansion), even with non-gamer type people. Controls are simple and smooth. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SpeedRunners, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Duck Game, Towerfall Ascension, and Stick Fight are some of my favorites. Crawl is also really good, but a bit more complex so depends on the age of the kids. Also can never go wrong with a platform fighter, Rivals of Aether 2 is great.
neutral · AI labelView post →One of my favorite in-person MP games of all time is Towerfall Ascension. My family and I used to spend so much time laughing out loud while playing that game. So many ridiculous trick shots with all the power ups. I haven't tried it on Steam Deck, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, assuming you can get multiple controllers connected.
