Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (3,163 of 3,969 positive).
Players praise Trail Out as a chaotic, fun arcade racer that successfully channels the spirit of FlatOut. [1][2][3] Many note the game is rough around the edges with poor voice acting and janky physics. [4][5][6] Some reviewers find the driving physics frustrating and a deal-breaker. [7][8][9]

Oh boy! I want to love this game so much because the butt-rocky music, the many serious and ridiculous cars that you can use and the insane variety in tracks and modes make it really charming. But it is all drowned out by this insane anger that boils up in me whenever i shoopdy-doo to the left and shivey-dee to the right in any car i use. Every surface feels like jesus took his sponge and Vaseline and went to town …

This game is brimming with content, it might just be one of the most content rich racing games out there. It's just that none of the content is all that fun. The mere act of driving is really not fun. All cars feel like go-karts, they have no weight and they steer so hard it's jarring everytime you take any sort of corner or even a light angled turn. The maps you race on are plentiful, and they have a huge variety …

This game is completely mad but clearly a labor of love. It's not just a FlatOut clone, it also contains Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Blur, Destruction Derby, Dirt Rally, bits of MotorStorm and I wouldn't be surprised if it suddenly turned into Wipeout. You'd think these modes would feel half-assed, but they don't, they're perfectly fine as an arcade racer. I even prefer this to FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage, the physics are …

I have completely beaten the game, put over 50 hours into it, and immediately recommended it to my buddies. It is a matter of taste: one of them absolutely loves it, the other not so much. If you miss FlatOut 2, you simply have to grab this! I am also super excited for Trail Out 2. Forget Wreckfest, that is a clean simulation. Trail Out is lightning-fast arcade chaos with massive Hollywood explosions. I highly …

Right. This game is insane. Genuinely insane. Somewhere in Ukraine there was a design meeting where a grown adult said "what if your best mate was a BDSM enthusiast?" and instead of phoning HR, they gave him a budget. And here's the truly mad bit: that's not even in the top three weirdest decisions in this game. The gimp is mid-table. He's the SANE one. Let that sink in. If I didn't love the driving so much, the …

60 of 206 · most liked firstThe majority of this game is Flat Out or Wreckfest with odd characters and a bit of a sense of humor. But for some unknown reason the devs decided that you had to have unskippable rally events blocking progression. If you enjoy both Flat Out and WRC or Dirt Rally 2.0 then have at it. But I can't stand rally racers (I would much rather have a mini map than rely on someone speaking to me in code while I'm trying to drive) and so I am deleting this game and advising others against it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible physics, driving, graphics, audio, story, atmosphere and voice acting. This game feels like a cheap parody of a game you see in another game, but it's even worse, somehow.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cheesy, rough around the edges, new gen copy of flatout, but damn it is a chaotic and fun game filled with ridiculous pop culture references
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A spirtual succesor to Flatout that comes with all the Eurojank it should. The game it's story is stupid and corny, mixing a boat load of racing games their stories and gameplay gimmicks. It essentially feels like a spoof film in game form but with actual substance on the gameplay front. Pick it up, its a good indie arcade racer !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's the perfect spiritual successor to Flatout, if it didn't have the most abysmal, garbage, floaty, glitchy, jittery, trash handling. No changing the steering settings can fix how terrible it is even after how many handling updates. it would be a 10/10 otherwise, it has such unique gameplay elements that's just straight up ruined by bouncing up and down using a car that feels like it is made out of paper and weighs five pounds so it freaks out off of every little interaction. Other racers…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried out the demo back in 2022 and oh man has this game evolved. This game is literally a mix of tons of racing games from early 00s. You have Flatout (obviously) but then comes... Need For Speed (some of the car choices, there is a M3 GTR DLC even lmao) Colin McRae rally (There is a rally mode with codriver) Carmageddon/Twisted Metal Road Rash (bikes with combat) BLUR!!!! (There is literally a whole game mode 1:1 to blur and even more stuff added, same powerup racing as back then) There…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Intentions are good but the way is optimized AGAIN, common problems with Unreal Engine games it really takes away from the experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little rough round the edges and gives a dodgy first impression with the beginning car's handling. Push through the first hour though and it's basically a new flat out game. Look forward to the next one
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a good homage to all the Flatout fans out there there were missing a next installment. Trail out has all the gamemodes from the Flatout series + MANY more that are super enjoyable to play through. I have had many laughs in this game and enjoyed every moment of it. Don't take the game seriously it's an arcade game with an added story! Game is a recommendation from me! Attaching PC specs for anyone looking for performance numbers. I had about 100 FPS on all MAX Settings 1440p.

Content Know what? i appreciate the chaos and the ambition. There are a lot of modes here, and you might not enjoy everything it has to offer: simple races, pursuit events, demolition, arena, weapons/no weapons or even a big open world zombie game. But it's enough to keep…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is what a modern FlatOut should look like. It’s packed with cool references to other games and memes. The tracks literally make you feel like you’re playing FlatOut 2 (or Ultimate Carnage) - the nostalgia hits hard. It features interesting game modes, like Roulette, which deliver random hilarious outcomes. Rally mode is meh, but doable. Soundtrack is fire. I’m glad I waited to buy it, since the devs have really cooked up plenty of content. I’ll definitely buy Trail Out 2 upon release!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can tell the budget behind this game was a single string, a paper clip and some belly button lint, BUT... Despite this game having some of the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ voice acting i've ever had the misfortune of hearing, cutscenes that are held together by banaids and the worlds most confusing story ever, i have never had so much fun playing a racing game EVER!!! I dont usually play alot of singleplayer games without loosing interest after like 2 hours but Trail out actually had me coming back after…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to finish the game for the achievements, but the longer I played, the less enjoyable it became. The controls frustrated me to the point where I couldn’t tolerate them anymore because the cars feel like they’re made of paper, flipping from even the smallest touch, and that completely killed my motivation to keep going.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nowhere near Flatout or Wreckfest. Stupid driving feel and trash engine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really really wanted to like this game. I'll try and keep it simple. Physics are wacky and not in a good way. Some cars will enter a near-permanent drift that you can't accelerate out of; some cars don't drift at all- or even turn for that matter. Sometimes you'll steer and randomly turn on a dime straight into the wall. You'll be mashing the RESET CAR button. Some of the track designs are awful. Very poor visibility or indication of where you're meant to go. Several blind corners or jumps…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trail Out is an hidden gem for sure, it's a very good game, along Wreckfest and FlatOut Ultimate Carnage, they're the best among their genre. Trail Out is more arcadish than Wreckfest which makes it a bit different than Wreckfest but if you loved Wreckfest, you should love this game too except if the more realistic gameplay of Wrekcfest is a necessity. - Has a good amount of cars and different types (bus, gokart, sports cars, bikes, motos, etc...) - Driving is pretty good actually, better than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Driving physics are awful. Try flatout or flatout 2 or flatout total carnage or crashday or world racing 2. all better than this junk
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New Game + actually ruins the game, don't even try it. Just play through the game normally. Actually very enjoyable slavjank verion of Flatout with bad voice acting but overall very good driving and crashing physics. It has quite a bit of content and a lot of different game mode, some are better and some are worse. It's a bit buggy though but you can easily look over it if you are into a more crazy version of Wreckfest and Flatout.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steering is very weird, car loses control easily even on best grip tires for the desired track. Roulette mode is a nightmare. The driver's assistant on rally races is talking too slow and most of the time it's too late for you to react because you already passed or crashed at the turn that he's just now talking about. The "New game+" is just a hardcore, no-damage (or avoid any of it) full run, mode with useless mechanics and no fun guaranteed there. Also, when you launch the game, it has lots…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New VP Post! Some shots on the game "TRAIL OUT", such a cool Photomode (I mean the magic button wich improves graphics👌 and the banger OST wich still plays inside) Do theses shots makes you want to play the game? #virtualphotography #thephotomode #trailout #unrealengine
positive · AI labelView post →Wow, it is my opinion that this developer has just BORROWED incredibly heavily off all of Bugbear Studios racing titles. When i first opened and played "Trail Out" only a few minutes after playing Flatout Ultimate Carnage (Still available on steam) I was shocked to be playing an almost identical level in "Trail Out" (I genuinely had to check developers) but a poor facsimile with terrible physics, It was a farm level... bridge, barn, corner, barn, greenhouse, near identical, the elements used in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the kind of game you just don’t see much anymore—and that’s exactly why I love it. Trail Out feels like a throwback to a time when racing games were all about chaos, personality, and pure fun instead of just realism and polish. From the moment you start, it’s clear the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. It throws you into wild races full of destruction, crazy tracks, and over-the-top moments that keep you smiling the whole time. There’s a real sense of energy and passion behind…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The handling is garbage, the visuals are bland and washed out. Not fun at all
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get, even on offer. Doesn't matter what price it is, as even free to play would still be a scam of your time. The car selection is not horrible, but the start of the game is brutal and unfun. You're stuck with either a Lada, another Lada, or a VW Beetle (which I regret not going for) for while, until you get another Lada/Volvo hybrid. Yeah we get, it's a Slav-made game, but damn. No customisation either, so get ready to be stuck in a s---box car for a long time. The handling is great -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game it's the FOJ Community Mod for FlatOut 2, the only thing is that they need to fix the control issues - sometimes the xbox controller unsyncronizes, But nonetheless, i like this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the old Flatout but bad. Unpredictable handling, poorly optimized, janky. For the same price you can buy Flatout 1, 2 and UC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Flatout 3!?... How didn't I know about you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WOW it's surprisingly bad Since the early development videos I saw on reddit, where the driving looked so off, it was the only red flag I needed, the other one is using Unreal Engine for a game like this. I thought to give this game more time to cook as it was too early on development, so I waited 4 years: After playing the intro and jumping on the first "race" I just couldn't keep playing. Everything is so cringe it hurts to watch. I would suggest you to look for the intro video on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to be lenient and highlight the good features and ideas during the playing, but unfortunately, destructive races, causing frustration from every collision, forcing players to avoid others, instead of enjoying the interaction with both NPCs and the track? As I mentioned, the game contains good ideas that enrich the genre, such as collecting fans based on performance, comments from opponents. some form of storytelling (however honestly, I wasn't sure if the low quality was a purposeful…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it would be a fun enough arcade racer if it didn't crash constantly. 6.5/10 if it worked. 0/10 since it does not work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me, this game is a blast.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This had potential but the driving physics are awful. There's hardly any weight to the cars. Turns and drifts always end up rolling over or spinning out of control. It's impossible NOT to take heavy damage finishing the race. In fact half the time, I end up crashing out completely disqualifying myself before completing the race. That makes it difficult to enjoy even with the amount of content provided. I guess the only way to really enjoy this game is with friends while being stoned or drunk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was excited for this and after playing it for a while I basically found the physics where lacking and also the game has ALOT of bugs that need to be fixed as well as performance issues that are out of the control of a users hands. disappointing really. Altho the game looks great and story has the cheese. crashes etc events are kinda cool on the good side of things.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TRAIL OUT is not perfect, but it’s a lot of fun if you miss old-school destruction racing games. It feels like it was made by FlatOut fans for FlatOut fans — chaotic races, big crashes, derby events and that crazy arcade energy. The driving can be wild sometimes, but that’s part of the charm. Recommended, especially if you liked FlatOut.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game that FlatOut 3 wanted to be, or rather, should've been! It's a true love letter to FlatOut and not just that, it somehow manages to be a tribute to arcade racing as a whole as well. The base feels like a true sequel to FlatOut but it also has elements and modes from games such as Blur, Burnout and even Road Rash, all blending together into a total, perfect carnage! The driving physics are not perfect but they are still very good, a story exists and is just as nonsensical as you would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is actually pretty good. I love the interactive environments, the garage nonsense isn't too complicated. All the tracks, cars and props seem very high quality. I don't usually play racing games, except for some vehicular combat ones, but this one is fun to me. So a fun racing game for people who don't really play racing games, which is not something I've seen in decades. I don't really understand why the reviews are so low. Maybe it's anti-Asian racism.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →third class...i didnt enjoy it after few hours ..and they did lot of changes from the earlier version
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely awesome but needs wheel support! Wreckfest 2 has it and Trail Out doesnt. Please fix it!

positive · AI labelView post →It’s time for Turismo Tuesday, and today we’re playing a racing game I’ve been addicted to as of late called Trail Out! It’s an awesome Flatout inspired indie racer! Come hang and chill 💚 twitch.tv/WolfPlisken
positive · AI labelView post →Really fun game, played maybe 65ish hours on windows to go through story, NG+, Dead Out & some jonkler races. Took a break for a few months and tried it on linux this past week. It's an even better game now with the changes to the tracks, & the new game modes. Only issues I've had is with tokyo, it doesn't run as well as the others, but nothing that will make you lose a race because of it. The bots are fun to race against, as long as you don't make yourself TOO fast (figure 8 caged race w/ a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bad bad game, only in game music is good. Don't buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pleasant surprise, didn't have too many expectations one way or the other, but this game is turning out to be a blast. A lot of variety in game modes and an appropriately cheesy B-Movie style story. The destruction is beautifully rendered and if you are a UEVR user, this is awesome in VR!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The FlatOut series is one of the games that I love and I still enjoy playing it to this day. This game , the songs, the not optimized graphic , the fake car hits and many other things i didnt like because i cant stop comparing to Flatout. Maybe the problem is that I played a masterpiece like FlatOut 2 and FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage, that feeling of high speed when you hit the nitro or the feeling of the car being crushed when you hit the opposite car on the corner of the wall or pillar and saw…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely over-the-top arcade racing game that plays like a parody of several other racing games that surprisingly works (most of the time). It is closest in gameplay to Flatout (or Wreckfest) but there’s also power-up races like in Blur, rally stages or even Tokyo highway duels. It is a game where you can race “not Big Smoke from GTA” in a “not Fast & Furious cars” on a circuit track that is totally “not Nürburgring”. And right after that, you can for example, race a tank while on a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like FlatOut 2 but better!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A parody of Wreckfest and Flatout. The racing isn't particularly enjoyable, and the game also pushes a narrative and cutscenes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game might be fun, too bad I couldn't get past the first campaign due to low fps and high latency. Apparently r7 5700x3d + 3060ti is not enough to run the game even at the lowest settings. The only good thing about the game are memes, other than that it's your average mediocre game by an unknown studio just as FlatOut 3.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is absolutely brilliant. It’s got action, chaos, destruction, explosions, and pretty good graphics. I’ve been looking for a game like this for ages and I’m completely satisfied with it. And with split-screen mode, it gets even more chaotic. The controls do take some getting used to and the game buggs sometime, but for me that’s perfectly acceptable given everything else it has to offer. In my opinion, anyone who likes Flatout and Wreckfest should give this a go. Above all, it’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Insane gameplay with decent graphics. A small team made this game so even if there's some bugs it still impressive. I have a lot of fun playing split screen with a friend. There's lots of modes, also the closest we have to a good Road Rash. I confess I used to play the GOG version that I downloaded for free, but then I bought it here with some DLC to support on the making of Trail Out 2.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runs bad. Plays Bad. Not worth ten cents.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulful eurojank as its finest! Highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun and bizarre game! Lots of gamemodes and vehicles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dunno man, I really wanted to like this game and tried it when 1.0 released...but it felt kinda janky, terrible UI, controller disconnect issues, my car flying all over the place. Decided to wait until 2.0 but again...complete disappointment. Noticed 5.0 coming out and was really excited the dev was keeping up updating the game and making it better which they get huge credit for, surely now it's in a fully polished state that feels and looks great. Except it doesn't. The good news is my car…
