What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 31 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (57 of 86 positive).
Some players find the game enjoyable despite its flaws, especially on sale. [1][2][3] Many criticize the PC port for lacking graphics options and being capped at 60 FPS. [4][5][6] Several reviewers note the gameplay feels repetitive and the difficulty is unbalanced. [7][8][9]

I like this game. I've never been one for rogue likes, but this is one that somehow keeps me glued to the screen. I'm liking the the main character and the AI she talks with. The gameplay is solid and keeps you on your toes. The controls are extremely smooth. At first the game was really easy, but as I progressed the enemies got harder and harder to the point I had to decide if the risk of fighting them was worth …

Scar-Lead Salvation wouldn't be terrible by 2006 PlayStation 3 tech demo standards, but it's completely overpriced for what it is in 2026. Score: 5/10 - Only buy during a sale if at all. The positives: The main character and weapons control fairly well. 100% native controller support. Generic story but the game's voice actress was doing her best to keep the player engaged. The game actually features a decent Anime …

First impressions of the game is not great. It's priced at $60 but feels more like a $30 game at MOST. Lack of Graphic Settings - Maximum resolution is capped at 1080p. - No support for DLSS or FSR for sharpening. - Vsync on at 144 hz feels exactly like Vsync off (it's capped at 60 fps). Maybe Fps is capped internally at 60fos like a fighting game? Using HDR is a bad idea. It looks significantly worse with HDR …

When i started playing this game I was excited, the gameplay was smooth, the guns seemed cool and the setting was.. OK. As I kept playing, NOTHING changed. The same guns kept appearing offering no reason to switch anything up, the upgrades are shallow and next to meaningless, and the rooms and environment stay exactly the same. I played for an hour, got to the first boss and beat it - at this point I finally got a …

I wish this game had any sense of level design, because the shooting and dodging mechanics are decent. I'm a huge fan of the game Returnal, and I've been searching for any other 3rd person FPS bullet hell game that can even come close to being as good, and unfortunately this just isn't it. It took me nearly 3 hours of playing just to get to the 2nd boss and that's with taking no deaths and playing aggressively. …

53 of 53 · most liked firstNotice: Since finishing the game and reading the credits I think it would be a good idea to add a notice before reading the intro to my review (as I want to keep it as my thoughts still hold true) that the main development was done by Neilo. Idea Factory worked as a support/secondary studio on this title. Update 1: IFI have made the previously Deluxe Edition DLC Weapons that you couldn't purchase separately now available separately and for free. This is a first step in the right direction for…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I saw this game I was shocked to see an IF/CH game that has textures that aren't straight off the N64, so against my better judgement I bought the game. The other reviews are spot on with locked FPS and lack of graphics options, but that didn't shock me much honestly given the usual fidelity of their other games. Anyway here are my thoughts: I played for an entire hour without taking any damage except from lasers. I never used your one ability you get, and I think I dodged about 3 times.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I want to keep playing, I'll refund the game as this is a really barebones PC port. The biggest issues are: 1. Missing mouse sensitivity adjustment for both unscoped and scoped in. 2. Press to aim / Hold to aim toggle setting is not available. 3. Almost no graphics settings. The game is always running at 60 fps, even with vsync enabled on a high refresh rate monitor. It's a unity engine issue that has to be resolved by the developers, should they choose to. There's no way to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Figured to give it a try. From what I experienced, it's not worth $60 for a $20 dollar game. Why? - Guns and abilities aren't really engaging in any way, shape, or form. - After I got past the tutorial, I didn't feel any difficulty unlike majority of roguelikes I've played in the past.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Scar-Lead Salvation Review – A Beautiful Anime Roguelike That Hates You Anime woman with amnesia fights evil robots. That sentence alone sold me on Scar-Lead Salvation. Developed by Compile Heart and Neilo, and published by Idea Factory, this third-person roguelike shooter launched on May 29, 2025 for PC, PS4, and PS5. But after 20 hours of shooting, dodging, and dying, I've got some thoughts. The Premise: Anime Returnal? The setup is classic sci-fi intrigue. You play as Willow Martin, a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Art and voice acting are nice, but the game play, writing and overall design are pretty bad. Put simply, all the components for a decent game are there, but no effort put towards ensuring the game would actually be enjoyable to the player. Some of the other reviewers talk about the game balance feeling off, which I agree with, but which is a little hard to talk about objective. A more easy-to-communicate example is how the dialog (and thus the story and the lore) is delivered to the player.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Id wait for a sale. Game is fun to an extent but after a while most of the weapons and and abilities can be ignored once you found your setup. It its more difficult to die than it is to complete the game. The rooms and environments become to samey after a while. If you check out the other reviews you'll see most of the issues happen withing the first hour as well. If they can remedy the complaints and enhance the experience ill change it to a Yes in the future. Gameplay…

neutral · AI labelView post →A very interesting, fresh, and fun game from Compile Heart/Idea Factory It's neat to see them go outside of their wheelhouse and make an arcadey, action-heavy shooter, and it's impressive how well they managed to nail good game feel on their first go. It's fast, frantic, and responsive, and while the first area is a little longer than one might expect, the gameplay systems expand nicely past that, presenting interesting wrinkles and build possibilities with the unlocked weapons and power ups.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Actually not that bad once the price comes down. It certainly doesn't feel like it should be $60, they were shooting for the moon with that one. Even at $30 it's a bit much. I think if this game released at $20 initially, it would not have garnered such a bad rep. It's actually pretty competently made. The movement feels fine. The voice acting is good, the shooting is okay. Get it on sale and I think you won't have a problem with what you get.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not really what you'd call a modern Roguelike due to a lack of Replayability after 100% Despite that I really enjoyed experimenting with combinations of Skills and Weapons, as well as learning room layouts. Story and world building are ok, gameplay is good and Willows voice acting was one of my highlights (both English and Japanese VA) Not for everyone, but I would recommend giving it a try when it's on sale

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do I like this game more than all of the Neptunia games, for sure 100%. There are some really cool things they did in the game. (breakable armor as an example) The storyline is very "meh" I think they could have gone with a more simple naming method for the histories lore, and the different factions, as like you don't really notice or care enough to remember complex names since you never really meet anyone or interact with anything really relating to the world lore. So the combat isn't bad,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't say the game is that bad as ppl say. I general I would rate it 6/10 or sth like that. As for the very main part of the game, the gameplay, well, it's really mediocre. Going from a room to a room and so, nothing really super special or anything. Though when you find weapons of your like, upgrage character and so, honestly, it starts getting fun to some degree. But still it very does need improvement there, for example animations of shooting and so (put shotgun here...). But to be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo for Scar-Lead Salvation, and it is terrible. Super repetitive, extremely basic, stages look the same, only two characters in the whole game, etc and yet, I enjoyed it? Sometimes all I want is something simple and brainless that isn't a huge epic with a billion mechanics

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked Returnal you might like this one too. Fast paced 3D Shooter with many similar mechanics as in Returnal. There is an additional game mode for tose desiring harder and more fast paced shooter experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get the negative reviews for this but I've found it pretty enjoyable, especially as a handheld/lightweight experience. Definitely get on a deep sale, it launched for way too much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Promising Roguelike Adventure Scar-Lead Salvation is an ambitious third-person shooter roguelike that blends fast-paced combat with an intriguing anime aesthetic. Drawing clear inspiration from Returnal, it throws players into a mysterious military facility as Willow, an amnesiac warrior guided by an enigmatic AI. While the game stumbles in some areas, its core mechanics and stylish presentation make it a worthwhile experience for fans of the genre. Engaging Combat & Movement At its best,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I also think that while Scar-Lead Salvation probably won't turn most people's heads, it's a pretty slick-looking game for them, and I'm very interested in how it turns out. They're also putting Hyperdevotion Noire on Switch, and I just think more people should give that one a try.
positive · AI labelView post →Scar-Lead Salvation is basically anime Returnal, and I mean that as a compliment. The gunplay and combat are easily the best parts of the game. It is fast, satisfying, and works particularly well in shorter sessions. I've found myself coming back most nights to play for a bit, which is probably the best way to approach it. The biggest problem is the lack of environmental variety. You spend a lot of time moving through similar-looking corridors and rooms, and after 20+ hours they definitely…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays pretty nicely and the relationship between Willow and the AI is surprisingly endearing, but the game is not a lot of fun past the first area. All areas have far too many rooms to fight through, there's little variety in enemies and the difficulty feels unbalanced. I was also getting these bad bugs where the audio would completely cut out or sound effects would suddenly get much louder over the music and dialogue, sometimes I'd activate my onslaught ability and it would be kept on until I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh pretty easy and boring, I think it's fine on 8.99 sale or lower. Runs well on steam deck, thank god because you can't change graphics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game won't let you access the main menu or even finish the tutorial. Reaching the second cutscene with all the floating ball robots causes an infinite loading screen. Of course there is no way to tell if the infinite loading screen has anything to do with the settings since changing them requires the main menu, which the game will not let you access until you presumably reach the end of the tutorial, so you would have to restart to try. Except you can't do that because even if you force…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should try Returnal after this. The general gameplay is a decent bullet-hell shooter, but it’s bogged down with repetitive environments and uninspired enemies. It’s an interesting game reminiscent of more iconic titles. #LunarlightJourneys #ScarLeadSalvation #Keymailer youtu.be/bpPqryYdMjA
negative · AI labelView post →GREAT Graphics and guns and fun, but was a little lost on what i was doing and when the actual game started or if it had already started.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for an hour. Disabling Steam Input got rid of the choppy video. No crashes so far. Negative points: forgettable soundtrack, weak enemies, repetitive level design. Eventually you have to replay the levels with even more bullet spongy bosses. It stopped being fun and became a chore at that point. The update made the gameplay faster but it is still tedious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You awaken in a pod with no memory, fighting through repetitive arenas with upgradable weapons and skills, but limited variety and shallow progression make replayability and value questionable. The story begins as your character steps out of a pod into a circular, empty chamber. You’re outfitted in some sort of futuristic armor and holding a weapon, but you have no idea where you are, or even who you are. There’s only one way forward: through the sole door, in search of answers. But the path…
