Players praise UnMetal as a hilarious and well-crafted parody of the Metal Gear series. [1][2][3] Many find the gameplay enjoyable, with solid stealth mechanics and challenging difficulty. [4][5][6] A few reviewers criticize the game for punitive difficulty and unfunny humor. [7][8][9]

UnMetal - An MGS Love Letter That Overstays Its Welcome UnMetal lets you take control of the charistmatic Jesse Fox, a man who has been jailed for a crime he DEFINITELY didn't commit, and it is now your time to help this unreliable narrator stage a breakout and regain his freedom! UnMetal is everything I would like to see from a game that attempts to emulate or parody the classic MG1 and MG2 formula. It takes what …

Genuinely fun game, especially if you're into the Metal Gear series of games. Not to mention, it can be pretty decently challenging at higher difficulties or in the Iron Man mode. Seriously, give it a shot. All sorts of comedy abounds, as well. I mean, its obviously a parody, but its one of those good parodies.

I rarely leave reviews, but I just had to for this game. I had no idea what it was going in. I just wanted to played a new stealth game. Now I know that this game is a hidden gem. It's hilarious, I was laughing out loud multiple times. The gameplay is also really good. The boss fights are quite varied and interesting. The final boss especially was perfectly done. There are also quite a few puzzles where you have to …

Not a Metal Gear (Solid) fan, but it's a great parody. - The gameplay emulates the old Metal Gear (not Solid) games quite well. Both good and bad aspects of it. - The sense of humour is remarkable. Simple but yet, neither cringe nor full of dad jokes. It is truly hilarious. If you're wondering, the trailer gives a good taste of it. - The game ends exactly where the humour starts to age.

The Airplane!, Hot Shots or Naked Gun of MSX games. Only a true film buff like Kojima could have pulled this off. Bravo Vince.

90% of the 191 Steam reviewers we collected recommend UnMetal. The complaint that keeps coming up: punitive difficulty and one-hit-kill traps frustrate some players. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
UnMetal received mostly positive reviews upon release. Review aggregator Metacritic displays a score of 85 out of 100 based on 7 critic reviews, and a user score of 8.3 based on 36 user ratings. In a review for PC Gamer, Joseph Knoop praised the game's humor, the influence of the unreliable narration, and how it captured "Hideo Kojima's flair for bonkers storytelling, villainous monologuing, and action hero logic". Francis DiPersio of Hey Poor Player similarly lauded the humor and influence of the narration on gameplay, saying "there were moments that literally left me in tears and gasping for breath as if I were infected with FOXDIE", though he also criticized the "obnoxious" difficulty of…

neutral · AI labelView post →Holy hell, what an enjoyable game. Unlike most people, I haven't played through a Metal Gear game since Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on the NES, though I am aware of the lore, and the gimmicks of the PS2 games. The humor and narrative were interrupting, but constantly on point, the old school mechanics were well polished. It took me a few weeks to beat this, coming back every week or so to gain a little progress, making this a really worthwhile 12 hours to complete. I got this in some bundle years…

They’re basically making fun of Metal Gear (not Solid) in an absurd way, but the gameplay is the same. #11 of 2025 #UnMetal #PS5 #PlayStation5 #PlayStation #PS5Share

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →By far the single worst possible homage to Metal Gear I've ever had the misfortune of playing through. This is a troll game designed to make jokes at the player's expense. If you're a masochist and you like repeatedly reloading your save for the sake of gotcha moments and truly un-funny comedy writing, you might find some entertainment here. But even then, there are better, more honest games you could turn to for that kind of nonsense. Do NOT fall for the hype, or the review average. If…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the naked gun of the metal gear solid series. Very funny, very fun, reccomended to any an all MGS fans either old or new. It plays like the 80s mgs games, but with all the quality of life features you'd expect from a parody remake. I reccomend this whole heartedly. It's such a well put together lampoon of mgs whilst being a love letter at the same time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UnMetal is a game I'd desperately love to recommend, but odd design choices and a punitive difficulty curve keep this one trapped behind enemy lines. Jesse Fox, an innocent man arrested for a crime he didn't commit, is trapped in an enemy encampment at the the height of the cold war. With little more than his wits and his green bandana, he must escape confinement to return to Allied soil. All similarities to the Metal Gear Solid franchise are entirely intentional - yes, UnMetal is a parody…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →overall this is a solid game. as someone that doesn't really play stealth games, and as someone who's typically not a fan of this "atari-style," of pixelated games, i really wasn't sure if i was going to enjoy unmetal. nonetheless, i gave it a shot, and i'm very much pleased. this game makes the combat very easy, as all you have to do is just mash X as soon as they give you the prompt, or just run up to them and spam X. combining items is a cool feature, and quite easy to use with a few…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Metal Gear if it was good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts out fine, but unfortunately the longer it goes on the worse it gets. Enemy and boss encounters become increasingly frustrating and the frequent bombardment of 'clever jokes' and 'funny gags', that often drag on for too long, starts getting REALLY old. It's possible to get some fun out of it, but overall I wouldn't call the whole experience particularly enjoyable. Probably most of my playtime was from forgetting that the game is still sitting on pause in the background while I was…

positive · AI labelView post →I can't remember the last time a game made me genuinely laugh. I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the most part, the game is actually good and a clever homage to the genre. But the boss battles are just stupid hard, and not in any clever or creative way. You are just left completely exposed on an open field without any cover, while your opponent throws granades at you at an insane rate or shoots at you from the comfort of cover (figures). The methods of taking down these bosses can also be pretty arcane. It's quite a shame I can't recommend the game and won't play it any further…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A satirical Metal Gear clone. Humor is used EXTENSIVELY in the dialogue; some may find it overbearing, but I got a kick out of it. The actual gameplay is faithful to the Metal Gear concept, so you won't be disappointed there. There are also lots of secrets and multiple choices at numerous points in the game, giving the game plenty of replay value.

neutral · AI labelView post →Only get this on sale or if you really enjoy shouting at your screen. I really wanted to like this, but the devs seem hell-bent in sabotaging your enjoyment by constantly throwing trial-and-error curveballs at you. The game has this perverse glee in watching you fail over and over again, until you find out what you’re even supposed to do. This wouldn’t be such a problem if the mechanics weren’t so rough. Enemy guards sometimes saw me trough boxes and their field of vision was not very clear.…

Dialogue is quite humorous, pixel aesthetic is nice-looking and I like the music. Great game!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's another of thoses unoriginal indie games that tries to bank on classic games. Nothing wrong in trying to recapture the magic of a classic games like Metal Gear but instead of trying to make a serious good story it's just satirical and break the fourth wall to the point of being a bad parody.

neutral · AI labelView post →I like the humor but too much trial and error kills the fun, the last straw was when I was given a timer to rush and save someone, then in typical fashion theres a new roadblock of guards as you back track to get to your goal, died because i spotted by the new roadblock and more enemies spawned, the Game Over screen mentions "sometimes you have no option but to use lethal force" ok... Next time i just shoot them to death, and a stupid inner dialog cutscene starts says i need to heal them, i…
