What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 252 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,480 of 5,382 positive).
Several reviewers criticize the high price and poor optimization, with some encountering game-breaking bugs. [1][2][3] Multiple posts pay tribute to Hayden Panettiere, whose performance as Sam is fondly remembered. [4][5][6]

Asking full AAA game price for a 10+ year old "remake", that DOESN'T ADD ANYTHING and that is full with GAMEBREAKING BUGS (... got stuck for like 30 mins on the ladder in Chapter 7 with Emily, which months after release is still not fixed, and no... having to set FPS Limit to random numbers to get past this is not a "fix"). The game itself is okay, the graphics are improved (I guess?). If I could I'd simply play the …

I finally got to play this game and finish it around 10 hours more or less~ Honestly, this is a pretty solid game, I've never played the original PS4 version. So, if you take a quick look at YT comparison, the graphical improvement is massive—it looks way way better than the original thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The story is pretty good, though I found the jumpscares quite predictable compared to The Quarry, I think …

Until Dawn remains remains one of the strongest cinematic horror games of the last decade, blending teen slasher clichés, psychological tension, and choice-driven storytelling into an experience that still feels surprisingly effective today. The premise is simple: eight friends reunite at a remote mountain lodge one year after a tragic disappearance. What begins as awkward reunion drama quickly spirals into …

played this after the quarry and the dark pictures anthology, and honestly, i can see why so many people love it. every choice kept me invested, the atmosphere is amazing, and the tension never really lets up. the characters grew on me way more than i expected, and i immediately wanted to replay it just to see how differently things could turn out. if you enjoy cinematic horror games where your decisions matter, …

Not worth the price they are asking for. Should be 20$ top not more. If we will assume that you will get it for this amount then sure it's a great gamer but for more than that? Not a chance.

81% of the 252 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Until Dawn™. The complaint that keeps coming up: too expensive for a remaster/remake. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that became legendary for the genre has a lukewarm return. This game has become legendary in the choices matter genre, and for good reason. I played it years ago on Playstation, and with my best friend I've been streaming them for him so he can make all the decisions and "play" them for himself. Well, we really enjoyed Until Dawn and all it had to offer. It's still just as good, filled with tension and decisions that still feel weighty and with funny moments in between to lighten the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best experiences of this kind of "movie night" game, the remaster has done it wonders. An engaging and interesting story, well-defined characters that you grow to love (some more than others, sorry, Emily), and moments of genuine tension and fear for the lives of these characters. However, I value these games primarily for their multiplayer aspect. The possibility of sitting down with friends, each choosing a character, and enjoying a "live your own adventure" horror night together…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let’s start with the fact that Until Dawn (2024) is yet another game stuck somewhere between a remaster and a remake. That’s why I believe asking $60 for it is too much, especially considering that earning the Platinum trophy takes no more than 20–25 hours. However, at a 50% discount, the deal becomes far more appealing. I’m replaying this project many years later, alone at night, at home, with windows overlooking a grove while snow is falling outside. That makes the experience especially…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 9 hours of playtime (just over halfway in the story) I encountered a game breaking bug where an NPC blocks a doorway and there's no way to get passed, except for starting ALL OVER FROM SCRATCH. Yea. This is not what I expected from a AAA game that charges 70 euros. When looking up this issue it's apparently a known problem and happens quite often too, so there's ZERO reason for the developers not to fix this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked Until Dawn when it came out. And while I thought the characters walked slowly, it never infuriated me or broke my immersion. However, for whatever reason, the characters walk like snails in the remake. For a game that wants you to play it multiple times, this was a horrible decision. I think they should have added an option for characters to run or walk faster in the remake, not done the reverse! I genuinely don't understand this. Why on earth would Mike, for example, stop…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I start the actual review I would like to say R.I.P to Hayden Panettiere ( Sam for those who don't know). This game is one of my favourites of all time especially the original on the Ps4. I may be a little biased because I enjoyed the original so much but I believe the remake is also amazing and the graphics are visually stunning. I see many reviews talking about how the game doesn't run very smoothly but I had no issues during all of my hours spent on this game I would say I have a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game ran surprisingly better on PS4. PC port is trash, glitches in cutscenes, stuttering so much it's unplayable. Charging full price for this garbage is a crime.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a great game. Rest in peace, Hayden Panettiere.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend the game in its current state ... A game shouldn't get stuck on loading screens and require the player to tinker with launch options to fix the issue (and especially not at this price point!). The game has also crashed several times. Very disappointing - I've wanted to play this for years.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's awesome but I can't recommend it as at certain parts (or when you load a save) there's a high chance the game just instantly crashes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game, rest in peace Hayden Panettiere :( <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please be aware: I only recommend buying this at around 20€ / $20 or below. Otherwise, it’s just not worth it. I got this game as a gift, and I’d be pretty angry and disappointed if I had bought it myself. Why? Well, first off, the music is amazing. It carries the atmosphere hard, and when the game wants to be creepy, it can actually do a great job. Chapter 10 is genuinely creepy and easily the best part of the whole game. It honestly made me ask why the rest of the game wasn’t more like…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game understands something people don’t like admitting. Fear makes people honest. You watch them walk into that lodge thinking it’s just another night. Friends laughing, pretending everything is normal. And then the mountain closes in, the dark stretches a little longer than it should, and suddenly every decision matters more than they expected. That’s when it gets interesting. The game puts their lives in your hands and quietly waits to see what you’ll do with that. Save them. Risk…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing but a black screen and this game never launches, no matter what launch options or suggested fixes I try that I read about online. Absolutely ridiculous for a game that rarely goes on sale, especially for a game that is so old.

neutral · AI labelView post →Bugs Break the Fear Factor Too many visual bugs in this version characters randomly popping into the air, object pickup animations feeling off, like things are just floating around. These glitches break immersion and make it hard to fully enjoy the experience. I liked Until Dawn for its story when I first played it on PS4, but the current PC release needs these issues fixed before I would recommend it. The story remains strong, but the bugs detract too much from the otherwise gripping…

neutral · AI labelView post →Seems to be a great game, but is unoptimised and most likely will never get fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't take the game seriously. The remake is so poorly made that I'm at a loss for words. By comparison, the PS4 version is a thousand times better. Off the top of my head, here are the things that were done poorly: the graphics—the characters look like wax figures; the audio atmosphere is bad—it feels lifeless, and the music choices are very poor. Then there are the controls: the characters move so sluggishly that I end up getting a headache after a while. A remake shouldn't make the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love playing these games purely with the goal of killing every single one of the annoying characters
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was so close to being truly cinematic if only the character animations and movements were smoother. The biggest issue for me was the facial expressions. The characters go through unbelievable situations, yet their faces barely change. They react through dialogue and voice acting, but there’s almost no emotion in their expressions. It breaks the immersion sometimes, which is a shame because everything else is fantastic. At the very least, you should respect the word “remake” and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved it. I recommend this game a lot, especially if you like choice-based-games. And also RIP Hayden 🕊
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS SO SICK!! 10/10 Where do I even begin? The graphics of the game are simply AMAZING, the blue filter? it just makes the game look so aesthetically pleasing and it just makes everything look so good. They did a really great job with this remake! The gameplay was simply peak, really fast paced QTEs which makes you feel rushed to make the "right" decision (it's so stressful) and also the choice variations are simply too good because they always make you wonder what will be the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Until Dawn is a very well made game! I really love the concept, the story and the graphic. Every choice matters, for sure. It has great plot twist and a great story telling. I really like how you in-between can talk to a psychiatrist. But there are is one big point sticking out. The camera is very clunky and therefore the walking too. At the end, I still love it. It's also a bit annoying that you can't always run, but tbh you can look over it, at least I did. It can take up to 12…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Cool Story, Bro." No honestly, cool story, good game. In fact, there were so many jump-scares in this game that I'm now completely dead inside and no longer have any reaction whatsoever to sudden, unexpected, catastrophic things that happen to me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was my first time playing this game, and it didn't disappoint, while some of the plot was a bit predictable the game was still amazing and fresh, not once did I have any issues or problems with the character writing and dialogue (I played in PT-PT). This game was way ahead of its time and is on my hall of fame of interactive "movie" games. With that all said i give Until Dawn a rating of 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2 years after release - DLSS Frame generation is broken - VRR flicker - Unoptimized + Game is good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Peak game, I love both choice based and horror games so this was a must for me BUT it is very pricey so I would wait for a deal
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poor lighting, terrible character models, and slow movement make this game so much worse than the original version.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Until Dawn is a story focused horror game. One year after a tragic accident, a group of teens vacationing at a cabin high up a mountain, find themselves threatened by a psychopath and something even more dangerous. I didn’t play the original version which released on PS4 in 2015, but I watched a full let’s play by NorthernLion which is what got me interested in this genre of game. I’ve since played The Quarry and the four Dark Pictures games from the same developer. Gameplay (medium…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OK, first let me address this because for this very issue, if there wasn't a fix I would have rated it thumbs down. ((After the prologue at first photo analysis scene with the psychiatrist, the game seems to get stuck on an infinite loading screen and the FIX TO THIS ISSUE IS: Go into your library on steam and find the game open up your options and go to properties, then under General in the Launch Options type the following: -legacypso )) The issue should be fixed. Now, I have an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No choices matter other than certain characters living or not. The ending is the same on all playthroughs, characters have plot armor through certain sections just to progress the story and you're dialogue options don't add anything to the broader gameplay at hand other than some filler words. The most egregious thing is the lack of skippable cutscenes. Having done 2 full playthroughs it just ends up being a slog towards the finish line. The lack of any really player freedom just makes it all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game, so glad to have it on pc... but holy crap does this game crash more than matt murdock driving in a snow storm. It's also not significantly different enough from it's ps4 release either to warrant a purchase if you've already played it on console. The only major change is Josh has an extra ending. I really wish I could rate this up as I love the game but the crashing will not get fixed, the team behind this remake has been disolved.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean hell the game its AMAZING, mad gripping story perfect for an quiet long night and a cold beer, so i recomand it only when its on discount, again the game its awesome, something like the quarry and beyond two souls, go for it but beware, oh it also got a slow start, like 4 chapters out of 10 until the action begins, same like the quarry. Bye Awesome to get a perfect run with most of achievements with a guide. Will definely play it again soon. Huge
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Until Dawn was ahead of its time. One of the best interactive "movies". Also, fortunately, had no issues with performance.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →teen slasher clichés are everywhere, but somehow that actually made me like the game even more. it is so well made that the clichés feel enjoyable(?) rather than annoying. atmosphere and music are amazing. as a Dark Pictures Anthology fan, I totally recommend Until Dawn
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game, had everything on high settings and had zero problems
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the laziest ports (Playstation to PC) I have ever seen. Crashes constantly. Make sure you run it within the return period to see.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I prefer the original 2015 version, this game was fun to play. I do think it is overpriced considering how little is added in; get it on sale. There are new totems, a new scenes; there is a lot of replay value and if you are a person that likes to unlock all trophies/achievements, this is a good way to start.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rest in peace Hayden Panettiere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is a solid 8/10. The bad review is because it is arguably the worst PC port ever done. Relentless bugs, constant crashes, audio issues. You'd think playstation is a indie company with how rough this game plays on PC.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For horror enjoyers like myself, especially if you don't always feel like committing to horror games with complicated gameplay, this is definitely worth trying. The soundtrack, storytelling, dialogue, characters and atmosphere make this game really good. I've already played this a few times on PS4, but coming back to it again, it still managed to keep me interested from start to finish and get me invested in the story all over again. The only thing that got on my nerves was the unrealistic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keeping it short. No spoilers ahead. As I’m a fan of story-driven, choice-based cinematic games, Until Dawn is a good game for me. There are improvements over the original Until Dawn on PS3. The graphics are really good, especially with the Enhanced UD Mod. Now, is it really worth the full price? No. Until Dawn is relatively short and doesn’t have a lot of modes to go through like other Supermassive Games titles. But if you are a fan of horror movies and want something decent to play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they pulled my favorite game off the shelf, wiped the dust off, gave it to a studio that never released a game before (that also shut down after making this game), and that studio spit on my favorite game, threw it in a dumpster and lit it on fire, i could go on and list some terrible "improvements" they made but one of my main things is they just completely took away the immersive atmosphere the original game had, they still could've changed the graphics but they just made them too realistic…
