What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 211 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (21,935 of 23,794 positive).
Players describe it as a unique, janky cleaning simulator that is both frustrating and satisfying. [1][2][3] Many find it best for zoning out or playing with friends, despite its physics issues. [4][5][6] Some caution it is not a relaxing game like Powerwash Simulator, but rather stressful and chaotic. [7][8][9]

Bought it because I liked games that involves cleaning and the satisfaction that comes with that. This game is kind of a classic in the genre so I decided to give it a try. Should've watched some videos on it because it's not what I expected at all. The game seems to focus a lot more on creating challenging/frustrating/fun scenarios for multiplayer than the zen-like state most other cleaning/refurbishing games aims …

There's a lot of people comparing this to crime scene cleaner thinking it's the same experience because they're both cleaning sims. It's not. This game isn't TRYING to capture you in a loop of satisfaction where your mop is a godsent tool that you can upgrade to feel progression. It's clunky, it's extremely dirty and laborious with much larger levels, no guidance and mechanics designed against you. Above all, it's …

This is, by far, the WORST GAME I have EVER PLAYED And I can't get enough of it The physics engine is jank as ♥♥♥♥, the blood spills hitboxes suck to clean, and bodies arent exactly easy to move around without bloodying the entire place up, and Buckets are about as stable as the Demon Cote That being said, it's the most fun I've had in years Buy it and play it, you won't regret it.

What an absolute hidden gem! This game was so far ahead of its time- in the current party game era I think it would've done extremely well. Although its a bit older, the level design, storybuilding, art, and game mechanics feel fresh and fun. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed getting all of the achievements and piecing each story together via the notes. It can get a bit repetitive, but I think that's okay since …

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It’s a very funny concept for a video game, and considering that the genre didn’t really exist at the time of creation, it gets a lot of things right. The map design is varied and often fits thematically, with some fun references I highly doubt they got the licensing for and a complementary visual style. When it’s working properly, it’s a good time. The problem is when …

Critics, per Wikipedia
The early access version of the game received several reviews. At Eurogamer, Dan Whitehead wrote that while many video games revolve around the concept of clearing a screen, such as killing all the enemies or collecting all the tokens, Viscera Cleanup Detail literalises the metaphor. Writing for The A.V. Club, Chaz Evans called it a commentary on first-person shooters that focuses on the consequences of violence. After the game's commercial release, Philippa Warr of Rock, Paper, Shotgun included it on her list of the top games of 2015 and later described the game's multiplayer as not only a way to keep in touch with people but also to learn about them through how they approach the game's…

[Go Mecha Ball](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2008510/Go_Mecha_Ball/) and [Cobalt Core](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2179850/Cobalt_Core/) picked my interest the most, also liked [Crime Scene Cleaner](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1040200/Crime_Scene_Cleaner/) (love Viscera Cleanup Detail) but reading discussions it seems to be a "fake" game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it personally, but I can't recommend it to most people who expects this game to be like powerwash simulator looking to lower their cortisol. This game WILL stress you out unless you're a masochist like me.

neutral · AI labelView post →As much as I played this game, I can't recommend it to everyone. You have to be somewhat of a cleaning masochist to want to play this game. If you are thinking about this game because you liked games such as Powerwash Simulator 1 &2, Crime Scene Cleaner, and Goblin Cleanup you won't necessarily or automatically enjoy this game. It's not chill; it's incredibly stressful and frustrating. If my warning doesn't convince you to rethink it, try the stand alone Santa's Rampage or Shadow Warrior…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the gameplay is hit/miss for people, it is heavily negatively impacted by the scoring system. To get an actual passing grade you need to not only clean up the enormous amount of mess, which takes about an hour by itself, but then you also have hidden mechanics like putting crates and barrels in specific areas standing upright, collecting a inserting the little employee tags and writing reports on them, and you also have to accurately keep a toll of every tiny thing like the amount of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more or less the original "cleaning simulator" game, but unlike a lot of contemporaries, this one delights in letting you create as much mess as you clean. Walking over a blood puddle tracks footprints, bumping an arm into a wall leaves a splatter, the tool dispensers come pre-loaded with giblets to randomly make your day worse, and god help you if you have a loaded disposal box on an elevator when it malfunctions. The best part of this game has to be the environmental storytelling.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game I return to from time to time whenever I feel like doing something quiet and repetitive. Viscera Cleanup Detail is about slowly and methodically cleaning up the gore and mess from various disasters. Multiplayer focused but I prefer to do it solo
positive · AI labelView post →I need a game like Viscera Cleanup Detail but it's Adventurer Cleanup Detail, and it's you going through dungeons to clean up bodies, fix destroyed props, and restock treasure chests
neutral · AI labelView post →I've tried and failed to get into this game several times. When I'd make a mistake it would dawn on me that I could go actually clean something in my real house instead and I'd abandon the game, but I'm finally letting myself play and it's a fun chill game. Beware the Unreal 3 physics when stacking crates and carrying fully loaded bins, but otherwise I have nothing negative to say. Good game to zone out with. Game should run perfectly fine on whatever hardware you have in 2026.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is older yes, but crime scene cleaner is so much better. After playing a lot of cleaning sims, this one is extremely aggravating for the simple fact being every item breaks.. a lot.... you need a garbage bin? here's an arm and leg and lets splatter blood on the floor that you'll have to clean up. Oh yeah, you have to retry to get the garbage bin because you totally didn't want that in the first place. You wanted to take this elevator thing to clean the blood splatter on the roof?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me a bit of Viscera Cleanup Detail https://store.steampowered.com/app/246900/Viscera_Cleanup_Detail/ You’re a janitor at some kind of secret science facility where monsters start killing people. Never played it, but love the concept.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As the third oldest game in my library at almost 11 years, coming back to it now, I still enjoy it. I'm not going to lie and say there aren't some frustrating little moments, like I tried to set a crate down and it threw me into the air, BUT it made me laugh, doesn't actually break the game, and I just got back to cleaning. I will await VCD 2 by reminiscing with the original. One small suggestion for VCD 2 would maybe be UV lights :)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Viscera Cleanup Detail would be a great game, if not for the physics.
negative · AI labelView post →This game is a great way to unwind. It is immensely satisfying to see a horrifically graphic scene slowly turn into a pristine space after hours of hard work. The sci-fi setting is quite cool and allows for some interesting cleaning scenarios!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ngl I think I would enjoy a "bartender in kerbal universe" game. Sort of like how I really like Viscera Cleanup Detail. I think the genre of "you're incidental to the bullshit going on" is a very good one.
neutral · AI labelView post →Ah, the demo for Hazard Pay is also out! It's like what if Viscera Cleanup Detail were a puzzle game - very clever (and gruesome) premise!
neutral · AI labelView post →I've heard of it, never played it. Sounds like the antithesis of Viscera Cleanup Detail.
neutral · AI labelView post →If I had to give it a rating from 1* to 5*, I would give it a solid 4* The game has a lot of content provided and the map designs are pretty solid in my opinion. The thing the game lacks is its easily broken. You'll find this when you're carrying multiple buckets at once, especially when 3 buckets full of water, anything full being brought up or down via elevator and when you're standing on top of a bucket. The mechanics of the game starts freaking out when you do this and it's very…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d say this is the first cleaning-up game I’ve ever played, and honestly… my god — this game is amazing. Yes, there’s the clunkiness of objects yeeting themselves across the room, ragdolls doing whatever they want, and buckets tipping at the worst possible moment… but that’s half the charm. This is the kind of game you just vibe to. Music on, no jump scares, no timer breathing down your neck — just pure, peaceful chaos while you clean up dead bodies and casually throw them into the inferno.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I totally understand this is the grandpa of all the simulator cleanup games but the antiquity in this one is felt. It definitely has all the core elements of all those games but I personally found the physics extremely frustrating. The hitboxes on things is absurd alot of the time and the "lol random" events were far more aggravating than fun. Maybe I am spoiled from modern takes and ideas but for me the brain off clean stuff needs the quality of life stuff we have now for me to enjoy. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks like simple and not entertaining. In fact while playing I realized this game easily empty my mind and kept away from life stress. Even musics and voices of this game enjoyed me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game, but being myself a lone wolf player, I wish this game had a Less Annoyance option, because it’s so frustrating having to finish a level with every tool working against you. Game is good though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core idea is fun and the gameplay loop is certainly there. However this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying to play. Not only does the game have poor QoL on purpose to make your tasks feel miserable and tedious (such as RNG meat drops from water and trashcan dispensers or spam posters from item dispensers or generally poor positioning of those dispensers and furnaces on the level) the game itself is riddled with bugs. Even when you set the physics quality to highest they are still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ which leads…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The "Cozy" game genre in the way it is perceived is incredibly sexist. You know what is a perfect "cozy" game? Viscera Cleanup Detail. Do you think any Cozy game lists would ever include that game despite its legendary status? But if instead of Viscera you cleaned a house it would be cozy. Sexist.
neutral · AI labelView post →A fun, but frustrating at times cleaning simulator set in a multitude of environments. There are lots of references to various media, especially movies from the 80s/90s; always nice to catch those and smile a little. The game is at its best when you have a teammate, but can do solo if you have lots of time to kill. OST on the boombox is decent, if a little repetitive after a while. Biggest issue is the physics system when it comes to stacking/carrying. You will have to be precise in your…
