rFactor 2
Developer Studio 397
rFactor 2 is a 2013 computer racing simulator developed by Image Space Incorporated (taken over by Studio 397 in 2016) and released for Windows in 2013. Like its predecessor rFactor, rFactor2 is designed to be modified and used by professional racing teams for driver training and race car development. Much of its source code is derived from rFactor Pro, which is also used by professional racers and most of the… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (7,263 of 9,242 positive).
Players widely praise the physics and tire modeling as best in class. [1][2][3] Many complain about the dated UI, graphics, and high cost of content. [4][5][6] Some note the game feels abandoned but still offers great mod support. [3][7][8]

They say comparison is the thief of joy, so I'll do my best to review this game as a standalone racing sim. On startup, big surprise. The game asks you if you want to download all the content - so you just have to sit and wait for it to download an additional 25 gigabytes. No problem, game finishes downloading, and now we can get to racing, right? No, turns out you can't actually use those 25 gigabytes of content …

€200 for all cars and tracks after paying €30 (full price) for a game with NO content. Not such a popular game since covid days lol. Same as the other negative reviews, buy the game only to find out I need to spend more money to get some tracks and cars. I would NOT recommend this game even if it's on sale. This game is designed for the iRacing type gamer.

Cars' physics is mostly better than any other sim. And, OMG, the tyres! You can feel them. Racing the AI is really good: way, way better than AC, on a par with the AI in AMS2, maybe even better. I got all of the content (which does cost a bit), but I'm very happy I did. The game can, often, look really good too, almost at the level of AC. I'll be using RF2 for a long time.

Very realistic racing sim with okay force feedback. The UI is literally from the caveman era. It's hard to navigate through. Graphics are below average for today's standards. AI is great. Feels like I'm racing against actual people The shop is a mess. 40 dollars for a bundle of like 7 cars is wild. Just add modded cars if you really want cars/maps from other classes. tldr: Ease of use: 4/10 Multiplayer: 6/10 AI: …

Great Physics model and official content but the best part of this sim is that it is easily modded and the workshop has great mods available if you prefer to stick entirely to steam

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While yes the pyhsics of this game are cool and all. you cant really play with people anymore without opening your wallet. i spent money to get server minutes and there is no way of getting nor your minutes nor your money back so go ahead and turn around and look else where because a gaming company that just takes peoples money can just kiss my you know what.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks great and still holds up for a 2013 game, but it refuses to work with my new Moza wheel and pedals. Like other reviews have said, even when it does work, it will randomly stop or change your settings. I want to love it, but be for real. My entire play time was spent trying to fix this nonsense, smh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I buy the game, install the game, open the game, try to configure my controls for the game, I find out that the game has no base content (cars and tracks). I have to either download mods or buy extra DLC. I don't appreciate such worthless excuse for video games, I expected so much better after putting in so much time in rFactor 1.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, just stick to AMS2 or LMU for GT racing. This will cost you an arm and a leg if you want the full experience and it doesn't even feel good to play. Also, the base game leaves behind a 27.2 GB folder after uninstallation, which you have to delete manually. Like wtf mate
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had a lot of potential, but I don’t know what it is maybe greed or cockiness, what do I know I am a random peasant who paid full price for an unpolished ♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience idk. Whatever 'it' is, this game is unplayable. Yes, the tire physics are amazing, but at least other dumbass games that don't have it actually work! In this excrement of a game, if I connect my controller after launching the game, it won’t recognize it and ooh you can't see if it works unless you load into a frikin…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i honestly dont understand what appeals to other people playing this game, theres zero strong points. the prices are insane, with you needing to pay upwards of $10 per car, plus extra for each individual map, the physics are the same thing youll get from a roblox game, the graphics dont look like theyve been updated since 2013, and the game just isnt even slightly enjoyable. do yourself a favor and buy literally any other racing game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Straight to the point. Pros: * Great physics * Great AI for single player * Mod support * It's very light to run and has a low install size * The game/sim is good, but... Cons: * Pre-historic UI overall * All the content is either paid individually or it's distributed as a Workshop Mod, along with the mods themselves, good luck finding the "base game" dev content in there. * FFB is good, but not nearly as good as in AC, the physics here are "supposed to be THE most realistic in sim racing",…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best word I can use to describe this game is just slop. If you want any content that isn't 8 years old, you have to pay extra for it. Performance sucks for no real reason. The ai feels like it was written in the span of a week. The crew chief somehow has the most annoying voice out of any racing game I've ever played. The ui design is just netflix but worse. Controllers are agonizing to use, despite the ui being made for a controller. The whole game is just corporate waste. Buy any other…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy at your own risk! First of all, rFactor 2 is just a husk. 0 Cars, 0 Tracks. You need to download extra content just to even play the game. Secondly, the piece meal pricing is absurd. You could buy the base Asseto Corsa for the price of one of rFactor 2's cars. The first time it downloaded the base content game failed to start entirely. The second time I downloaded the game, I had to add just one workshop item to even start playing it. It tells me this product was not even bug tested to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New player experience is pretty poor Downloading mods outside other than from workshop isn't working after close to 2-3 hours of troubleshooting but no use. Game is on the brink of abandonment as well
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Physics in the market just feels abandoned wish modding was more accessible as well as more saturated like assetto corsa. This is a what could have been game so much potential
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Physics model and official content but the best part of this sim is that it is easily modded and the workshop has great mods available if you prefer to stick entirely to steam
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still has the best tire model.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game following Paradox business model, nuff said!! You get bare minimum and need to complete this game with crazy amount of DLC's!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost town. That's what rFactor 2 is. I tried an online race. There were two of us until the race started. Then it was just me. This is in the official Daily Race. I can only access the Beginner race. The other two don't exist. On a positive note, the AI are only a little stupid, so solo races aren't too bad. There's a "Career Ladder" coming soon, but we don't know what "soon" means exactly, so, yeah, there's that. Frankly, even having access to all the contect through Race Control Pro+ does…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A reference in the world of sim racing I got rF2 when it was published, and I have had plenty of fun with it. The free content in the base game is good, as well as a lot of free DLC in the workshop. The paid DLC is top notch, I particularly like endurance cars and BTCC. The servers work fine, the is a relatively small number of people in the servers, probably most switched to LMU.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game stays running on Steam, actually played around for couple of minutes and itºs clocking at 5h, then I have to shut down steam to make it stop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old but gold. Still the best handling. The only downside is the amount of paywalled official content, but the mods make up for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY IF U HAVE A MOZA!, ♥♥♥♥ will not work no matter what you dooooo
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting a bit old now, but can still find a car or track I like to run in this game. Steam workshop has loads of stuff to play with!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not perfect!!! Nothing is,really...but if you're looking for " A more physics realistic experience " RFactor2 is Uneven, the tyre physics is like no other!!! yes there's good games out there but so far none manage to represent such physics, is all about Graphics and Arcade, away from my preferences. Studio 397 brought good work into Rfactor2 trying to revive Rfactor2 for the great Sim that is but more work need to be done, hopefully this Sim will be in a continuous developing and more cared…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On sale this game is an <insane> value. For something like 5 bucks you get a fully featured driving sim that is on par with Assetto Corsa (which is also an insane value). It is dated graphically, but otherwise it is excellent -- well, with some notes.... Expert reviewers claim that the FFB modelling, physics and tire modelling in this game are genuinely first-rate. This is literally one of the top sims for driving physics according to folks who claim to know such things. Its car set up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yikes. wait for a sale, this game comes with 0 content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no better VR racing experience than Brabham BT20 on Historic Spa and Monza 1966 (all free and non mod content). The tires, the suspension physics, the sense of speed and DANGER - with massive wrecks, hay bales, fires, broken wheels and entire cars flying through the air as you powerslide at 300km/h... Obsolete graphics mean this runs at steady 90fps on max settings and 150% resolution on Pimax Crystal Super. Simply sublime and there is no better VR game/experience than this very rF2.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My worst purchase on steam so far. Why: 1. The game comes without any tracks or cars from dev , so you have to pay for them (scam). 2. Free cars and tracks from workshop is a lower quality 3. Downloading whole assets takes about 2h, so basically you can't do the refund using steam rules. 4. game in VR is constantly crashing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game comes with zero content, you can literally not play this game without downloading extra things. After messing with steam workshop and waiting for things to download, I finally had access to cars and a track. I wanted to race a friend, for a bit of fun, we cannot without paying to host a server? After much messing about, we gave up, what a scam. What a literal waste of time and money. If I had persisted for any longer, I wouldn't have been able to refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Most realistic physics and FFB in any sim racing including LMU and IRacing - Widely available mods - AI fill available in private multiplayer - VR performance better than modern sims even in night/rainy conditions - VR Graphics with Reshade/DX11 mods is spot on - Compatible with SimHub/Openkneeboard to add track maps in VR even for all modded tracks. - The only thing is missing is a proper career mode that was promised by Devs before they completely shifted to LMU This sim will never die.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can no longer in good conscience recommend this game. It use to be one of the premiere sims you could buy. With Studio 397 releasing LMU, there is no point in playing this. I just signed up for the LMU subscription and wanted to checkout the offerings in RF2 that came with it as I got all the DLC. The game is just not very functional. While this may not be the experience per player, the fact it is not intuitive as a plug and play experience like most modern sims is a huge disappointment.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredible force feedback with every class, very detailed and mature rain physics incredibly close to reality. very nice and challenging car and track daily race combinations. i would suggest a bit of refinement on the leaderboard tables and seperate leaderboards for qualifying
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although the quality of the game is bit ass, the physics aren't bad at all. so as the sounds. If the devs update the game quality a bit more its would be a great game from my view, 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overrated. This is not the great simulator the fans will make you believe it is. It's a badly optimized arcade game that relies heavily on community content and overpriced DLC's. It has no reason to exist when you can have the original Assetto Corsa complete with all the DLC's for less money, supported by a way better quality modding community.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so frustrating and buggy. It doesn’t show any updates when downloading cars or tracks. Why can’t you just play right away? There’s so much stuff to do before you can even play the game. This game is not for me. Uninstalled!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kartsim mods are peak, great practice if you've got an event coming up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this games fanbase is dead as ♥♥♥♥
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →during set up i click on included pack for install and nothing happens, just sits there highlighted in orange
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →trash, My pc can run Beamng drive better then this game, dont buy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I paid pennies and got a great online system with my favourite sim racing driving experience. Everything offline sucks though. You need a PhD to figure how to set anything up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i got this on steam deck although it was unsupported in my experience it works really well, only took me 30 to a hour of trail and error to make it work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE ultimate simulator, left to rot... The FFB it's insane, and I kinda feel it more realistic than LMU... Otherwise it's a top notch sim, but there's inconsistency within mods quality of course, and the official DLC are pretty expensive, it was cool if it was update, even once a year, it still has a lot of potential...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spend 5 minutes setting up config, game installs all the content on the steam workshop without your permission very slowly and none of the base game cars since they fail to download, restart game, doesn't reopen. 1/10 still better than F1 2015
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →rFactor 2 is a very unusual racing simulator. At first it can feel confusing. The interface is dated, the configuration process requires some patience, and the content structure is not always easy to understand. Between official content and workshop items it can sometimes be unclear what is what. Graphically the game also shows its age. Some tracks still look good, but lighting can be inconsistent and the overall presentation belongs to an older generation of sims. Performance can also vary…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is absolutely no support here on Steam when they mess up your licensing. They just refer you to studio 397 support, which completely ignores your requests for assistance. DO NOT BUY THIS FROM STEAM.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most detailed DRIVING simulation for almost a decade. A variety of cars & tracks both modern and historical.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →out of all the sim racers i play. i find myself always coming back to this when i actually want to learn. the physics just feel so right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everything is perfect in this game, especially the FFB is extremely immersive. But when it comes to AI behaviour on track, it is terrible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yes is very good ad super realisic physics but just a reminder the AI's are very stupid

neutral · AI labelView post →It is mind boggling that this is the studio that did LMU. This is a complete $#*! show. All of my time in this game has been trying to get my Moza R5 to work. I can steer but not FFB. Except for once, I had reversed FFB. No idea why or how and Ive never been able to get it to do anything since
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most underrated simracing title ever (especially for singleplayer) very realistic physics, cheap, high quality mods that are easy to install and a variety of different content
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In 2026 this is not worth the install. (THE POOP) Abandoned way too soon by Motorsport Games, unrefined/under developed Pad control system poor Physics/tyres feel wonky (balance between front/rear grip) Audio not ideal, not enough audio clues when tyres are giving up grip Lots of odd graphics/shadows glitches, it spoils replays Reiza add on tracks look MEH Reiza add on cars look MEH Silly mask applied to cars to fake lighting in different conditions, looks horrid Needs to be run at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have got the SIM and enjoyed the racing with real recers online (not a fun of racing with AI). I earned the Silver safty rating and reached a higher league requirements. However, I needed the content to race. So, I purchased the most expensive pack in the store (RRP ~$300). To realise that only beginner racer's servers are available now. Shame!
