Seems most positive reviews are written by bots. This is a reskin of a $10.00 Russian only game, Sparta 2035. Funded by the Russian government, specifically the sanctioned IRI, based in Dubai. This exists to bypass the sanctions imposed, because their own once beautiful country is this desperate for revenue, slowly dying within while they send 1000's of their own people to their deaths daily. The immediate reaction on hearing about this game was "Cool, a new iteration of Jagged Alliance 3!" And it sounds very similar, on paper: run a mercenary company in Africa, with a game loop alternating between strategic decision-making on the overworld and tactical grid-based combat where a small OP squad overwhelms superior numbers. In practice it is in fact very like JA3, with quite a lot of modern XCOM mixed in. …

Finally a turn-based tactics game that doesnt treat me like a child. Been playing for a couple of hours now and im cautiously optimistic tbh. Instead of traditional percentage-based hit rolls, the game emphasizes actual ballistic calculations, positioning, line of fire, cover and elevation. This makes tactical decisions feel more consequential than simply hoping that a 75% shot connects. Between missions you manage your mobile base, recruit personnel, improve equipment, negotiate contracts and make decisions affecting the campaign. This gives Warhounds a …

This is just Sparta rebranded. The dialogue is terrible, the story is just JA3 but with less depth, the graphics are barely out of the 2010's and they absolutely lied about "No BS RNG". It's riddled with it, the only thing different there is that if you are within arms reach of an enemy you get a "golden 100%". That's nice, but its not what they advertised. It's also pretty buggy. I apparently was on for 4hrs after I closed the game to have dinner and watch some tv with the family, so I can't…

Nah.... This game needs a lot of work. Just trying to get through the first mission was frustrating. Characters running wild paths into cones they don't need to, to get to a safe spot on the map I chose on purpose. Awful lines everywhere connecting to you for every decision that you cannot turn off obscuring the screen. Overwatch mechanic is insane, all enemies just run to the back and cover the whole field camping. The hand holding with tutorials even into the 2nd mission like come on man... I…

This game could be good. BUT, it has many issues that the programmers have to resolve. Opponents ramp up very quickly, and have access to armor and weapons you can't get. 100% hits are not 100%. Enemies see your whole team even if only one of them is spotted. Enemies immediately engage without hesitation as if they were waiting all day for you. Your team often shoots at its own waist high cover instead of the enemy.Enemies seem to be able too shoot through walls while your team cant.…

Read some negative reviews and people are honestly nitpicking about weird things. At least the game launched fully instead of sitting in early access for years and ending up nowhere! Played a couple missions, noticed a few bugs and a slopy camera, but it is still a very enjoyable experience because the core tactics are simple and fun at the same time, so it definetly works for me

Overall an ok game. If you haven't played XCOM, play that instead. There's also Jagged Alliance 3. Tomorrow, the Star Wars XCOM is also coming out and that looks good. This game has pretty dated graphics, definitely what seems like AI-generated photos leftover from the demo (which were 100% AI "placeholders"). This is all on top of the controversy behind it being literally the same game of Sparta 2035, which is sold in Russia only, according to some articles online. As for what it…

Feels like a 15year old game got an asset flip on an unpatched release. Plus it has some sketchy Russian goverment backing. If you're into tactical strategy Warhounds feels instantly familiar but that ends up being a massive double-edged sword. On one hand it tries hard to capture that XCOM vibe with squad management and base building. The issue is that the actual gameplay doesn't back it up. They make a deal out of having "no fake RNG" and relying purely on "true ballistics" but in practice…

Dev is trying to sell a different game under a new title, I don't know the exact details but feels really scummy when this is exactly Sparta 2035. Not to mention the lack of an AI disclosure despite a lot of AI art assets and what isn't AI generated at-least some of them appear to be directly lifted from Xcom 2. I could be wrong but that Civilian scramble animation is suspiciously close. Frustrating, bones are solid if only the devs cared enough to put in the work. AI Gen is lazy plain…

I bought this game under the premise: "No fake RNG" That is a flat out lie. The entire game relies on RNG and it is as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it is in most of these games. Failing covert missions that have a 5% fail chance? No need to reload, the outcome is predetermined. Fun if that happens to 3 missions with a 5%, 7% and 8% fail chance in a row. First review: Honestly speaking - there is nothing genuine to this copy cat of a game. I very rarely leave reviews but Warhounds was such a huge disappointment, so many mechanics and beats are completely lifted from a variety of XCOM titles, the dialogue is cringey and makes you hate the characters, technically the game is a mess and visually the art style really doesn't do it for me. Alright. Warhounds is done and dusted. This is very much a modern world tactical turn-based strategy game ala XCOM2 (and Jagged Alliance 3), which the developers proudly list as their main influences. I've played XCOM2 extensively, and I'd say it definitely has a lot in common with that game, without an alien invasion of course. Instead, this game focuses on a civil war getting out of control in Africa. A (mostly) benevolent warlord is usurped by a group of fanatics with mysterious backers and…

Okay, so I generally don't leave reviews when I have so little playtime, as I am usually concerned about loving the game but running into the "two hour surprise" as I like to call it... but I feel this time it is warranted. This game is rough as heck around the edges, as one would expect it to be for (assumedly) *just* hitting 1.0 and launching to the public. Game not for me, XCOM was way more fun, the limit of 4 people on a mission ensure each mission is how they want it, the gear and money is controlled as well. The combat feels like bullet trading and most of the time it is grenade fighting or bullet trading against bullet sponges. It doesn't have the fun of JA2 or the tactics. I really want to like this game and feel like it has a lot of potential. Its just hard to overlook the glaring AI issues. Examples- A shot gunner in the street should not be able to shoot up through a 4 story building and hit my guy on the roof. AI snipers shooting through walls with no LOS from insane distances and take out your men with one shot gets old. I spend more time just trying to revive my team then actually shooting enemies. Its basically medic simulator 2026.

I've seen “it's just XCOM” about 50 times in the reviews. Okay? It's like saying JA3 is “just another turn-based tactics game”. At some point you have to actually play the thing. The basic vocabulary is familiar, sure. But the AP system, cover damage behavior, directional overwatch and visibility rules give it a different feel. And honestly, I don't need every tactics game to reinvent the wheel. Just make the wheel roll nicely. This one does.

I love turn based tactical games. I had high hopes when I saw this game. But then I played it. At Newbie settings, the AI always knows were your character is regardless of line of site or concealment. They have better equipment, better armor, do more damage, And become highly skilled and gain accuracy if you take out a "leader" other enemies hit you more often and do more damage than you can. Game is so unbalanced, way too many enemies, they spam grenades, their cooldowns are way quicker then yours. they shoot 3 mines not 1 and their grenades can kill most soldiers on top of setting them alight doing even more damage. also to pick somethin up, do me kit or extinguish almost always leaves you out of cover. you cannot do it on an angle. all they had to do was play their own game and they should have realised this.

Highly recommend Warhounds if you are tired of arcady tactical games. The ballistics feel incredibly realistic and the mercenary setting is super immersive. If you love managing custom squads and actually having to think about positioning, this is for you. Just dont expect an easy ride becuase the enemy AI is quite aggressive even on early contracts. Definite buy if you want a proper challenge :)

I've played JA3, XCOM 2 and pretty much every decent tactical game from the last few years. Warhounds doesn't beat them. But that's a weird standard anyway. I don't need every new game to be “the next XCOM”, I just want something that gives me good tactical problems to solve. This does.

I wish there was a "maybe" button weather I recommend this or not. It's has good fundamentals but in the end it's very mid. You can customize your characters but options are very limited. Story is very bland, the characters too, it uses AI generated images, the dialogues feel AI generated too. Gameplay is good but it feels simple compared to other games in the genre. If you haven't played Jagged Alliance 3 play that instead. I would recommend this only on a good discount.

It's TEMU Xcom. It's not going to be GOY or anything, but it's decent and it's been a looong time since we had a new xcom

Love the mercenaries here. They actually have distinct voices and personalities, their lines during combat feel so funny and atmospheric. The squad customisation is awsome and the game has a solid old school tactical feel. It has some bugs but the charactors make it totally worth it.

I was skeptical because the screenshots made it look extremely derivative. After actually playing it, I don't really care anymore. If a game borrows familiar mechanics but uses them well, I'm fine with that. The combat has enough differences to stand on its own.

There are too many things blocking my enjoyment or a sense of progression. As others have stated, it needs polish. I like the world-building and most of the mechanics of leading a mercenary group. The gameplay does not feel linear as you get decide which missions to take, outfitting, and trying to make a profit. I think the Devs did a really good job in this department. What kills it for me is the AI and/or the balancing. Examples: 1. Mine the objective mission - The AI accidentally hits…

Enemies are more like a bullet sponge rather than anything, there´s no tactics, game don´t give any space for tactics neither, maybe is a good turn based game but if you like xcom, JA, Phoenix point, etc, man this is just not worthy

The game is good though it definitely has its share of problems. I would probably recommend waiting for some discounts and patches, but it is already a pretty decent experience right now.

Another one thing russians just stole - nothing unique and lame gameplay. Don't buy it - they will pay taxes in russia used for the war in Ukraine

This isn't going to replace XCOM 2 for me. It doesn't need to. XCOM is still the king of polished tactical campaigns. Warhounds is doing something a little different and, honestly, I'm happy to have another game in this space that doesn't simply copy the exact formula.

For a 1.0 release, the technical state is honestly disappointing. I'm not gonna sugarcoat that. But after putting some hours into it, I'm also not gonna pretend the game is bad. The core tactical gameplay is strong. The combat is readable, positioning matters, the overwatch system is interesting and the squad banter adds a surprising amount of character. It needs polish. Probably a LOT of polish. But there is a real game here, and I really hope the developers keep working on it.

I'm enjoying my time with Warhounds. It has some rough edges, but it scratches that turn-based tactical itch. I'm playing the middle difficulty. The game punishes you for a major mistake (leaving a soldier without cover) but feels quite fair (In 20 hours I've only ever had an enemy use both his actions to shoot at me one time). The cons: -Some crashes, but the game saves at the beginning of every combat turn and often enough on the map layer that I've never lost any play time, with the…
