Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 175 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (3,537 of 4,505 positive).
Players praise the game's ambitious blend of immersive sim and CRPG elements, with a unique supernatural Wild West setting. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the game has significant flaws, including repetitive gameplay, clunky controls, and bugs. [4][5][6] Some players find the multiple protagonist mechanic and narrative structure engaging, though others feel it's underdeveloped. [7][8][9]

A game I was flipping between really liking and being baffled by it's design choices.Until,I got to the Werewolf's journey and got hit with so many bugs (big and small) including one which locked me out a bunch of the main quest options and any positive thoughts I had evaporated

I can't believe people made such a big deal out of the multiple protagonist mechanic. To me it worked really well, it even reminded me of the old Call of Duty games where you play multiple soldiers all working towards the same goal. This game really is the best of Prey and Dishonored, put in the blender, and mixed with old school isometric Fallout. What a perfect little game and I can't wait to play what's next from …

Weird West was so much better than I expected! It's like a mashup of Shadow Tactics, Hard West, Dishonored, and Baldur's Gate. At first it seems like a typical top-down rpg, but it also features realtime gunfights and solid stealth mechanics, as well as minor crafting and two(!) skill trees. Adversarial scenarios can be handled in different ways - you can ghost past everyone, you can sneak around and pick enemies …

It's a fun, if a bit flawed the game. The camera is a pain in the ass to navigate. Some of the achievements are so RNG dependent, it'll make you tear your hair out. The story can be a bit confusing, and the lack of music variety can be grating especially when you get 10hrs in. It has some immersion aspect into it but not enough to really make it be labeled as an immersive-sim. With all that said, it was enjoyable …

gameplay is fun once you get the hang of combat and stealth, and I love the setting with its unique blend of supernatural with wild west themes; also the UI oozes "Dishonored" (presumably the same artist, WolfEye was founded by ex-Arkane employees) if the isometric camera is putting you off, there's a quasi-official first person mod you can get that works excellently definitely glad I picked this one up

Players who liked Weird West: Definitive Edition talk about unique blend of supernatural Wild West and immersive sim mechanics; those who didn't talk about repetitive gameplay loops and shallow mechanics. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Weird West received "generally positive" reviews for PC and Xbox One and "mixed or average" reviews for PlayStation 4, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Destructoid liked the game's compelling story, world, exploration, frantic combat, and player choice, but lamented the presence of technical issues. Game Informer gave the game an 8.5 out of 10, writing, "Weird West's best assets are its well-developed characters and deep gameplay systems, but its overall production value is underwhelming." GameSpot reviewed the title less positively, commending its writing, character dynamics, and old-school pulp fiction aesthetic, while taking issue with its inelegant combat, binary morality…

I'd pitched an idea for an Old West exorcist game to Bio back in the day (to blank stares and "thanks for the pitch"), but here I had the chance to actually develop it into something? OK, yes. For that, I'll keep going. And I did.

It's a top-down twin-stick shooter with action RPG elements. And it isn't a roguelike! Unfortunately, I tried playing the demo a couple months ago and the game just didn't feel "fun" to me. I don't remember any specific complaints I had, only that the moment-to-moment gameplay loop felt tedious. The developers say there'll be an updated demo during the Steam Next Fest on…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It starts our great, then you get to the Pigman journey, which is aweful. The game essentially forces you into a style of play for each journey, and if you ignore that you are massively punished. Basically, the game does everything it can to strip the fun out of what should have been an excellent experience. Not to mention the balance is out of whack and half the characters are unlikable. There is an illusion of choice, but it is wafer thin. Such a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, good narrative, there's some nice great mechanics in it, if you like immersive sims you'll gonna have a great time. I do have some gripes tho. I really wish the characters got developed more, even the main ones don't really get developed much. You have stories of 5 diffrent protagonists which you play as, their stories are ???somewhat??? connected narratively together but it doesn't really matter much until the end. The mechanics really invite you to recruit your past playable…

neutral · AI labelView post →The first rodeo Weird West is one of those games I vaguely remembered for overall positive reception around the time of its initial release as “impressive RPG debut”. The only expectation I had for this title was a distinct setting – a western with supernatural touch. You can take my word for it, the developers were keenly aware of the game’s selling point and an atmospheric intro sequence neatly establishes just how weird the West may get. To give credit where it is due, this title does an…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's so hard to give this game a positive review, it really deserves a, kinda positive review. There's a lot of things done so well in this game, but a lot of questionable design choices as well. The game loop between characters is the same, just with different powers for each character. The story's between characters are entertaining. The game looks good, it feels good to play and the special effects are good as well. Watching a whole field burn down and fire spreading was super cool,…

Beneath the “Weird” lies a world of oddly endearing characters, hidden emotional weight and a story that has unexpected... depth. Flawed, yes - the West is weird. The controls can feel clunky, like a mule on cobblestones. And yet, I’ll never forget the day my savage Pigman learned to fix clocks… or the gunslinger who chose a…

neutral · AI labelView post →I tried with this game, I really did. But unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. There are a lot of neat concepts within the game, but to me, they all feel half baked. Progression feels like a slog, and the combat doesn't feel very rewarding. Stealth is OP, which is fine, but also somewhat boring. It feels like your choices and additional exploration don't really matter. The "Freedom" boils down to, "I can kill whoever I want" - which is neat in concept, but in reality it feels pretty lifeless.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is captivating and full of promise, yet makes it so difficult to be enjoyable with the dated and clumsy systems in place. Most of the game is best described as "tedious" in nature. I'm sorry, but "inventory management" isn't a feature or gameplay mechanic. It's admin work. Want to sell stuff in town or get quests? Your horse hides in the corner of the map while you slowly run around not doing the fun bits. Need to heal after battle? Enjoy running from cactus to cactus until you're…

The first trailer made this look like a fun little Weird West FPS. This new trailer shows a lot of game mechanics and they all look too complex for my tastes. Check your codex to find each enemy's weak spot? Pick a specific bullet in the chamber for a specific attribute? I'm sure there are people who will love that level of detail in a game but it's too much for me. But hey, at least there's a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its insistence on telling you in every loading screen that choices matter, and that you can kill everyone, even the important ones, if you want to, comes across as a bit insecure when you realize how shallow this game actually is. For all the stuff you can do using a puddle of water in Weird West, the immersive sim trappings (did anyone else pog out when 0451 was the combo to a safe???) are proven out to be empty signifiers of a mechanical complexity and a kind of cultural capital that I think…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty fun ARPG with good story and interesting concepts, but some areas that feel a little half-baked. The game is flexible enough that those deficiencies didn't really impede my playthrough in a significant way, but also did not leave me thinking I wanted a replay. I enjoyed the writing and thought a lot of the narrative structure, world-building, and story concepts were really fun, but supported by underdeveloped gameplay…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, this is a good game... but there are caveats! If you want to play this game as designed, it asks a lot from you as a PC gamer. It's asking you to use a twin-stick shooting system, (if you use controllers) or a 3rd person "Diablo-esque" style control system of keyboard movement and mouse aiming style of play... but at the same time, if you play the way you're used to you will die a lot. It's asking you to use these control systems in the way this game was designed! The Weird West way!…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game for anyone who is into CRPG and/or immersive sims. There are 5 chapters in Weird West, each of which sees you play as a different protagonist. The choices you make each chapter would affect the world in subsequent ones. The game is ambitious, and can be a bit janky at times. There are a couple occasions in which I explored an area that is part of the main quest later down the line, and I advanced the quest line without knowing what is really going on. In one of those…

neutral · AI labelView post →For a first game of a new studio this is very promissing, the story is interesting, if you give it the time it needs. The abilties in combat are neat but to be honest nothing beats the shotdodge, the stealth is fun, and the graphics look good. The bounty hunt system felt cool. Stealth is a mixed bag, but once you have a bow and leveled up the perk that gives bonus damage on unsupecting targets it gets pretty good. What I did not like is that so many locations are really unique. The towns feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't recommend it. Awkward controls, clunky twin stick battles, and very poor inventory management. Coupled with lacking visuals and no voice to the characters it doesn't hold up to others like Hard West or even Shadow Tactics, which I suggest you look into instead.
