I really wanted to like this game. I love puzzle games, and the puzzles in this game are actually quite good but to get to the puzzles you have to sit through a tonne of boring dialogue. At the end of chapter four there's literally 20 minutes of non-stop, unskippable cutscenes. That's when I threw in the towel on this game.

OK... first off, if you hate puzzles (like me) this isn't your typical puzzle platformer. I think it's important you know this in case that tag throws you off. Short version: This is the best game you can play that has level design this bad. Long version: Let me explain. What Lies in the Multiverse is a game about a boy genius with dreams of traveling between dimensions. After a successful attempt to do it himself, a mysterious man with a tall hat finds him and the boy begs to become his assistant. Their story comes alive with polished pixel art, humorous dialogue, and colorful characters as they travel from beautifully rendered world to beautifully…

This game is a resounding... meh. Not good or bad, if Steam had a 'neutral' rating I would have used that. The puzzles are decent, the pixel art is good, the story is... not so good. There is some serious tonal clash happening in this game. It wants to be silly and funny, but also morbid and serious. Now a funny game can tell a serious story, mixing absurdity and seriousness into a good story, but this game doesn't succeed in doing that. I think it is trying to say something about mental…

I really wanted to like this game. The premise seemed interesting and I love puzzle platformers, so at first this game seemed right up my alley. But there was so much tedious and unnecessary dialogue which takes up over half of the game. I frequently found myself wishing I could JUST PLAY THE GAME instead of constantly skipping past text bubbles. If the dialogue was actually entertaining it might have improved the experience a little, but I found that most of it felt like a writer who was…

I played the demo and was captivated by the story and the funny dialogs. Breaking the 4th wall at the end of the demo won me over. Even though I found the puzzles rather slow and boring, I bought the game. The game remains fun for a while, but later becomes more serious and dark, which I liked. Although the 4th wall is never broken again. The puzzles, however, continue to be slow and boring. In the end, I was disappointed with the last two chapters and the big reveal, which wasn't really…

I enjoyed it but it is very clear to me that this is not for everyone. Probably for you if you like: Not too challenging puzzles, platforming, with only 1-2 new game mechanics per chapter, occasional optional more challenging areas, narrative driven games Probably not for you: If you like highly challenging puzzles and platformers that you play with muscle memory from failing over and over again. I thought it was relaxing to play and I enjoyed the story, both the humor and the sad bits.

A diamond of a game. Suitable music, story comparable to games like "To the Moon", "Katana Zero", and pixelart-RPG games like "Crosscode". Characters have different personalities, which is hard to find in games in general, especially nowadays. May be boring for some as it is mainly a puzzle platformer. But if you are playing games mainly for the story and atmosphere + you like pixelart sidescrollers - just buy it. One of the more unic and better pixelart games out there, that's for sure.

Excellent game, not too challenging but not so easy you get bored, achievements that encourage you to do more with your game and a very nice story. A bit too nice at times but if that is how the story is told it is okay. So 9/10 for me

Puzzles are kept light which creates great pacing that matches all other elements of the game. No downsides from me, Impressive game.

Truthfully, I did not enjoy this game. The gameplay is acceptable, a simple platformer puzzle, requiring changing between two worlds instantly, in order to progress. The story is where it all falls apart. It's a badly written existential philosophical drivel. Every universe besides the main one is dead, full of bodies. And goes on some tirade about how "life is pointless" and an insane Doc Brown ripoff that's trying to destroy everything out of this nihilistic nonsense. So, don't let…

"What Lies in the Multiverse" is yet another of literally thousands of console ported 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. Considerable effort was expended on a terrible idea, here, as the developers decided to put a lot of additional features like voice acting into an obsolete, craptastic 2D retro pixel platformer made for consoles, an attempt to bury the dead pig in lipstick, I guess. There's a phase shift theme to the…

What Lies in the Multiverse I'm really happy to have found this little gem. It's the perfect time killer for about two afternoons of quality playtime. About 10 hours for 100%, nice and easy puzzle and platforming parts and a fantastic story. It's not perfect, but it definitely deserves a lot more praise. I imagine that if WLITMV (an abbreviation that rolls right off the tongue) is one of your first (puzzle) platformers then I can see it leave a good impression. I put "puzzle" in brackets as that element is rather bare bones and not very involving at all. While that might not be a problem in and of itself it is made worse by the fact that movement itself (and interacting with the environment) feels like trudging through molasses. That, along with the obnoxious characters and quirky writing can…

Overall the game as pretty fun to play. It had a quirky style and the story for the most part helped the games overall feel. I did have some issues with the ending though. It so unsatisfying. We spend the whole story hinting and stuff and telling a story shrouded in doubt and mystery. And when it come to the end where the pieces should fit together, it just doesn't feel like it fell into place the right way. There was so much that could have been done with it that didn't happen, and that left…

What lies in the end… are a few achievements you might have missed. Coming from a Chilean studio, this narrative puzzle platformer lets you switch between universes to alter the environment of a level and provide a challenging way to overcome obstacles. Each of them feels different and given the game can be beaten in around 8 hours none of them overstate their welcome even if they could be cumbersome to traverse through due to the sluggish nature of some mechanics. This game concept is unfathomably simple yet it’s executed perfectly and well enough that I’ll struggle with a puzzle but still be able to figure it out without just bashing my head against a wall for hours. The gameplay is fun, but there's too much reading for my liking. The story is fine, the humor is pretty stock, but the most annoying thing is how many dialog breaks there are and how many times you have to press Enter to get to the next piece of dialog. Plus, often you'll get through a cut scene and back to the action--but then the "action" is only walking over to the next screen and then another cut scene starts.

All around fun game to play, but I am confused why the devs would put an obvious "Speed Running Mode" in the Settings - then not offer the ability to skip the cut scenes by default. How are you supposed to train yourself in speed running techniques, if you have to skip a bunch of dialog on every attempt?

Most of the game is focused on reading dialogues. It has an outstanding atmosphere and awesome pixel graphics, but the gameplay doesn’t offer much. Most of the puzzles involve simply moving a box from one side to another. I like this game, but I would prefer it as a quick story mode. Also, don’t skip searching for files and reading them—you’ll enjoy the story more, and it will feel much deeper!

Graphics are a simple pixel affair but work really well and don't really need much more. The music really fits the mood of the levels and can be quite emotional as you get more involved in the story.
