Wow is this rough around the edges. Was going in knowing the reviews were pretty mixed, but wanted to make my own mind up and give it a go. Unfortunately it leaves me frustrated more than anything. The optimization is poor, even after literally 30 minutes of playing with settings. I understand the game is meant to be unforgiving/challenging, but the hints and waypoints in the story mode hardly activate so I'm stuck …

Okay so I gave up on Story Mode. There were just too many places where the game would crash or get stuck and I got sick of having to ALT TAB out so that I could manually close the game down. Then I decided to try my hand at the Survival Mode. I did not have to play very long before I was annoyed by some of the developer's terrible decisions. The setting of the game is that you are trying to survive in a place that …

This is one of the best survival games I've ever played. The gameplay is great, the graphics are amazing, and the story is a beautiful masterpiece. Maybe one of the best stories I've ever experienced (seriously, the devs cooked). You may encounter a bug every once in a while, but for the most part very polished. Definitely less buggy than it was in early access. Sound design and music is also very good. Overall, I …

I love the idea of it. I, overall, think this game is pretty fun (have not played all of it yet) but, honestly, it can be too much a lot of the time. Your player's sanity level and the factors that go into your sanity is very unrealistic and dramatic. I spend two minutes in my cabin to heat up and I get cabin fever and my sanity gets too high. Next thing I know, because I was in my cabin for a few minutes, next time …

This game has some incredible potential. Is it a bit rough around the edges? Yes, but I think the Devs have a great idea here and I hope more than anything that it can become as big as it deserves. This game gives you the uneasy feeling of The Forest while never leaving the realm of possibility. Because sometimes the true fear is what's within your mind. Not only does this game make you truly feel the change as your …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every time I say to myself "Don't buy Early access crap" and every time I do it ... yet another disappointment ..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was going well enough, then I got through what seems like the main part of the story and they proceed to take away everything I collected and toss me into a situation where I have to juggle literally all the problems in the game at once as well as keep Joel alive with nothing in my bags except what I was carrying, forcing you to go back saves in order to hoard stuff. Not doing it. They took away all of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ resources and wasted all of my time. There is not enough time to juggle 15…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lowest quality game I have ever played. Maddening. Unplayable, and i tried for a long time since The Long Dark is one of my favorite games ever. They say they care about mental health on the non-skippable loading screen. If the devs actually cared about the mental health of their players, instead of empty virtue signaling, they would write better software.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's no real interaction, no animations for almost anything. It's a soulless grind of clicking and holding until numbers go up in your inventory. Clearly they have no idea what people look for in this kind of game. Just reinstall the long dark, there's nothing new here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was expecting this game to be an extremely cool open world survival game, but instead its just a quest driven survival game where you only get to do what the quests say.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I use to say... oh its just early access it will get better... no no it wont, and you will just give your money to another subpar game. I will be surprised in 6 yrs from now if it gets better. If it even gets to there
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is engaging. And, it is challenging. It is not supposed to be the Long Dark, or Green Hell, or any other survival type game. And, it very much isn’t. I am very glad for that. It’s also pretty clear they got a lot of influence from them. But, it has problems. The Steam blurb says this the “ultimate survival experience,” with a “unique sanity system.” And, I did not really find that to be true about this game. The UI is fairly standard. The injuries and treatments are pretty…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted this to be good. Over a thousand Long Dark hours and wanted more of the same. This is not it. Menus and controls are so bad - forget the game pad unless you use the mouse as well. Bugs everywhere and inconsistent environment. It is a pretty poor effort even allowing early access grace. Waste of time and money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has some fun survival elements, but the Story mode keeps pushing you into bad conditions without much opportunity to prepare for them. Even Green Hell was far more forgiving.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The further I progress the further I get frustrated with alle the bugs and lack of attention to the UI in general. End Game is just too much of all the bad things combined this game has to offer. And don't get me started on the insanity factor. I mean, you walk for few hours in game and feel a little hungry and suddenly you've lost your mind. IRL I can easily go for a day without food and actually end up feeling better about myself. You spent half the time looking for mushrooms, because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT NEW review : I changed my mind dont bother with this game, so finally defeated the bear in act 3 then afterwards i would get instant killed just walking around. the controls are always bugged so you have to exit the game then load back in to fix it so you can go into your tabs for really anything. game is just trash. this should have never been fully released the basic mechanics of the controls just dont even work. and that is the first thing you work on. Cant even find joel. it says to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of right now can't really recommend this game. There are so many bugs/glitches. The pointless click/hold to pick things up. Gives the option to play with controller but then bugs out or takes forever to navigate the menus. Never had to click a separate button just to see what an item is until this game. Keeps crashing my audio when trying to record game play. Overall movement is rough. Character walks like he's drunk. Introduction made no sense and gave no story buildup and I'm still…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love survival games I really do. I can not recommend this game even in a early state. First of all you pay almost 23 bucks right now. For this I want more and I do only want to finance a game if the game deserves it and I see the potential of it. Sure they are delivering a lot of updates but the essential stuff is not well balances at all i will talk about it in a second. I died at least 25 times before getting in to the game even halfway. The different game modes dont work properly. They…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs were kind enough to send me a key for this, but as always I will give my most honest review of it. It has great bones, but isn't quite there yet. The graphics are phenomenal but it really feels like the devs are concentrating more on graphics than gameplay. The UI is clunky and hard to navigate, the gameplay sometimes just instantly kills you or locks you in a death loop with no instructions or tutorial on how to get out of it, or just breaks entirely to where you are forced to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm huge on survival games. But I think this may need more time in the oven. I fall through bridges and land for no reason. And I sometimes become gravely injured by picking up sticks or rocks? I like there are wolves but I wasn't expecting the combat with them to be so narrow. You can throw a massive amount of spears at wolves (10+) but they will just stick out of their body and the wolf will be fine. If you however do the timed action event when the wolf charges at you, you can impale the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I just paid full price for a longer demo.... what the ♥♥♥♥ guys.... do not buy till fully finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So you think hiding in bushes against wolves and bears would actually work? I am pretty sure they would sniff you out no problem. I was hoping for more of just a hardcore survival vs the cold, maybe a animal or two that attacked you. Surviving the cold alone is hard enough without gear. I was looking for something more like DayZ namalsk type cold survival. Finding clothes for y our hands, face etc.. having to constantly remake a fire wherever you go. This game is more like assasins creed but in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love survival sims. maybe ill get back to this but right now i find it annoying. the overly complicated crafting menu, why are there so many ways to get to a recipe, and why do i have to see all recipes, whether i can do them or not? do i go to the worktable to craft or do i use the ui crafting menu? just have one dedicated space to access the menu please. once in the crafting menu from whatever access you come in on, its so many tabs, theres not a legend to see what the icons stand…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave this game 2.5 hours and must say that I am sorry I purchased the game. Unfortunately I don't see me devoting any more time to this game. If you like games like the Long Dark, Then you might consider passing this game up for another selection. What I find I dislike about this game is that you start a fire, add sticks and you might get 3 minutes of fire. One day into the game and I have to deal with the sanity system which completely detracts from the game of survival. Maybe something…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the potential this game has. It is a bit frustrating with the insane concept because as a survivalist I would LOVE to live like this and it wouldn't affect me as easy as the mechanics currently do in game. I would love to see the food last a bit longer considering you live in a freezer. I would also love the ability to construct your own nails, as it is quite possible even in the real world. I am currently in Survival mode only as I hate questing. I love building and surviving. Devs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't care for the insanity mechanic as it starts vastly too early for any type of realism. It would be the equivalent of taking a nap and being insane when you awake, just because you were outside and it was dark. Only somebody super imbalanced already would succumb that fast and I like to be the hero of the story. As a builder game, it is exactly like all others built with this engine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would heartily recommend this game if it weren't such a crash-fest. It's hard to get started and make any progress when it crashes before you're out of the tutorial. maybe check back in six months when the game is ready for beta
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very bad performance even on lowest settings. Just overall very laggy while loading even the simplest things while playing. The "story" so far is a bit short but allright. The wolves have 2 difficult settings. Kill you on sight or getting annihilated by the auto impale. Cant recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the most unique, beautiful, immersive, and fun survival games I have ever played. The story is sooo good. I can't put into words how good I think the story is. Gameplay wise, it's extremely good and very well polished, but there are still bugs to be fixed. Graphics are very good also, I don't play on epic I play on high and even that looks great. Performance could use some improvement. I wouldn't recommend this game if you have anything less powerful than a 3080 (I play with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is such a slow burn... you'll probably freeze to death before you get to anything in the game you enjoy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game, very challenging, fun and cheap with the 40% discoult, but too many bugs for a finished product. 1) once the load button is pressed it takes 30s to open and sometimes it crashes. 2) I build close to a wolf pass and he keeps appering on the top of my building 3) there should be a destroy item option, I keep having to drop on the ground and wait for disapper but there is a potato that never disapper. 4) Sometimes the click stop working then you can use anything 5) Sometimes the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My opinion on this is about as torn as your jacket. On one hand mental illness being a SKILL TREE, not an impairment, is pretty funny. On the other hand I feel like this one needs time to cook. My biggest gripe is that your needs go down way too quickly where your character starts whining about "not having eaten in forever" even though we just ate two entire cans of meat pie just 2 in games hours ago. So far the map seems pretty barren (in a not good way) but I don't know if that's just the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dense and beautiful world, a loooot of cool mechanics and really engaging story. I like it a lot. I play on RTX3070 and i7-8700K, 1440p resolution, high settings, DLSS on quality. Game is really smooth, ez 60 fps :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since the last update, the game is just not playable. I have a high end gaming machine, and it still has all kind of problems. I guess I'll have to wait on some more patches.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a acer nitro 5 with gtx 1650 but the textures of the game are horrible only if i put them on ultra they get better but the performance gets even worse
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Start survival game, get placed in a ravine surrounded by mountain walls everywhere, only way forward utterly swarmed by wolves. Tried story mode instead. Feels like it has little to no direction, random quests way too big area way too much loot you have no idea what to do with. Just such a confusing chaotic mess. Barely understandable how to craft, what to craft, how to hunt, fight, kill, loot, scavenge, etc. Needs dramatic streamlining and overhaul as is, otherwise just not fun to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has the potential to be good, but just has too many bugs and QoL issues. Unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, i love survival games and the story line was pretty cool. This in my opinion was challenging until i learn the mechanics. I only wish the settings were more challenging. Example: heavy snow, more random attacks by wolfs, more packs, more diseases. But i love the game. Yes the game has some issues like many other games, but its playable and you can spend several hours how to survive in the wild. It really reminds me of Hell's survival but in a winter setting. There are some bugs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have two gripes with the game, gameplay wise. Story Mode: I stopped playing the story mode after reaching act three because of a certain game mechanic that's introduced then - not gonna spoil anything but it feels out of left field. Having it in the transition from act 2 to 3 was ok but having to deal with it after that just killed any immersion for me. Endless mode: I grinded up until Lvl53 and the unlocks are grindy AF. I just unlocked trolley extensions that I didn't even know existed and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far it seems very promising. It starts a bit rough, but that's pretty common with survival games in my experience. For me it started getting fun after the first hour (and after the jarring pop-up tutorials went away).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent survival game with 3 modes: - Story mode - a story with cutscenes, voice overs and basically a tutorial teaching you everything as you go - Survival - sandbox survival experience with open world - Cold Wave - short form - survive as long as you can, collect as many gold bars as possible for the highest score It's pretty difficult and unforgiving. There's hunger, thirst, temperature, your clothes can get wet and need drying, there are predators (wolves, bears), animals you can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great survival game! (I play in easiest mode as I like the exploring and story. Many challenges. Love the ability to scan. Not so difficult you cannot figure out challenges with real-world logic. Plenty of new things as you wander. I love the crafting and building. The wolves are actually killable. The only thing I am not loving is not being able to destroy or move a wrongly placed built items, I understand this is in development, so I will just wait to start over with the next patch.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't even play the game without it crashing every 2 minutes I get it its in early access or whatever but it shouldn't be crashing this often this there is no excuse for this at all! I can't even play it every time I try to load the game in it just crashes I can't even get to my gear I'm just stuck in the cabin.....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice survival game, with some new ways to go for it + you can choose between 3 diffrent playing styles and can even setup your own preferences for a lot of issues. Is already very nice & fun to play & will become better & better so to see.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a great game dont get me wrong made it all the way to max level built a 3x6 shelter was doing great but the immortal bear makes it impossible to play in my world the bear has been outside my shelter for 3 days i cant leave at all im trapped. fix this and the review will change or add a option to remove bears all together for those who dont want the immortal bear hanging about seems many players are having issues with this bear just stalking there shelter and trapping them
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played through Act I and II and enjoyed the story and gameplay. Still a bit buggy, controls sometimes a bit frustrating and the food spoil rate is way too high making every exploration feel too rushed. It would be nice if prepping for an explore was possible. The game includes making jam which is a preserve but it spoils within a day - why? An option to spend some time at base, collect and make more durable food so that going out to investigate every nook of the map felt a bit less panicky…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game... £15 but still in early access.. NOW.. I have a PC that can comfortably run AAA games on High or Epic.. yet this game.. on High i get 20fps On medium I get just over 30fps What is going on??? I can't comment on the gameplay as I got 5 minutes in before i turned off and refunded.. but the bad review is for the game not being properly optimised
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm having a blast with this game. I know people have mentioned bugs, but I haven't had any issues. Thus far I've just been playing the survival mode but it sounds like the story is even better. If you enjoyed Green Hell, I think you'll like this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo extensively and returned to the game shortly before the release of the third installment. Although I haven’t finished it yet, I think it’s absolutely worth the full price. The game is well-balanced and immersive. I’m looking forward to finding more time to dive back in and complete it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has come a long way now that act 2 is out. I haven't finished it yet so there is at least 15-20 hours of story mode. I could also see myself playing survival mode for another 30-40 hours as is so this is worth checking out now. I played over 600 hours of Long Dark. If you're a fan of that game, there's a good chance you'll like this one too.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bug on a bug on a bug on a bug. I collapsed on the trolley because I was fatigued, when I woke up I couldn't turn, like I still was on the trolley even though I could go off of it. I just refuse to continue to start over.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's honestly pretty good, I don't know why reviews are mixed. It's a lot more polished than some of the other jank on steam. Story is good, but its not finished. I like the crafting system more than the Long Dark, its much larger. I think the mechanics can be more refined but its worth the price for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →im buying this game and see the developer keep update and don't stop so i think i will play it again and see this game good or bad
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth the price. The game shows a lot of promise with the features and unique aspects, but its not it yet even half off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a great survival game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so where to start the game its self looks great decent graphics but thats probably all it has going for it controlls are clunky if you use a controller sometimes it doesnt even register inputs at all theres no map system so youre expected to remember every location combat is terrible and slow the game on a whole feels like its still in beta and far from finished and definatly is worth 20 bucks on a whole id give it a 2 out of 5 and would recommend passing on this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this one. I had been looking forward to it for a while, and the premise is exactly the kind of gameplay loop I usually enjoy. Unfortunately, I barely got to play it. The game crashed multiple times before I could properly start, then crashed again around the tutorial. I restarted it several times, tried to push through, and eventually had to give up. There might be a good experience here, and if the crashing issues get fixed, I would genuinely like to revisit it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It doesn´t work well, after a few minutes didn´t work at all. i like easy graphic but this one is not done. complicated crafting, unclear commands, annoying, very messy
