What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 193 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,232 of 4,022 positive).
Players praise the unique art style and fun gameplay loop, though some find it repetitive. [1][2][3] Several reviewers note the game feels incomplete or has clunky mechanics. [4][5][6] Many recommend it for co-op play and when on sale. [7][8][9]

You're a wizard. You have a gun. If only it was fun. Wizard with a Gun (WWAG) is an isometric, procedurally-generated shooter with inventory management and time crunch to deal with. The gameplay loop is crafting some bullets for your guns, cracking open a time portal which randomly generates a world, hopping in, killing everything you see (including random plants and buildings), fighting an elite mob for a widget …

IMPORTANT: THE DEVS DID NOT ABANDON THE GAME. Unfortunately they had to give up on the project and end the team, as the profits were not high enough for them to keep going. You will notice that there are parts of the game that clearly point to more content that was to come, but that does not mean, in any way, that the game is incomplete. It feels more like a cliff hanger. Anyway, I'll leave my review below. Great …

Worth buying if it's under 10$. Art style is great, gameplay loop is fine: not great, not bad. Feels like chore when you reach almost the end of the game. Biggest flaws are: - Game is pretty clunky. Doesn't feel great with mouse, but doesn't feel good with a gamepad either. - For me at least, unplayable without a mod that allows you to construct in base without having to run to one of the 20+ chests for mats. - The …

Legitimately, the game is a work of passion. The art direction is unique and breath of fresh air, the gameplay loop is dynamic and ever changing just enough to keep you on your toes and never feels stale or bleh. The crafting and progression serve as just another reason to keep engaging and the bosses are difficult enough to actually make you plan out a strategy and think carefully about your gun choices. The Devs …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Wizard with a Gun received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. PC Gamer said that while it "expand[s] on the groundwork" of Enter the Gungeon, the combat "feels unpolished". They said the "tight gameplay loop" of incremental progress toward better loot and crafted weapons kept them "persistently engaged", though. IGN called it "an entertaining co-op action game" but said that the cooperative multiplayer made the game a bit too easy given how much bonus time could be harvested from the increased number of chaos monsters. They also found some of the magic bullets to be uninteresting or underpowered, and they called the ending "an extremely…

I wrote the script and composed music for 12 Labors, an indie game about working your way to an apology I've also composed for some indie games, played sax on some others, dome VO for still more, and sang on Wizard with a Gun (Also I wrote the Nuka-World jingle for Fallout 4)

Not even an option to break out of the stun. You get to put your controls down, sit back, and watch yourself (eventually) die. It's not fun, and it's not challenging. You're no allowed a reaction, so what challenge could possibly exist? The only thing fights like this challenge is your patience, and I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So yeah, I've got to slap a "Don't Recommend" on this one, and it properly kills me to do it. There's bits of this game I genuinely love - I've been thinking about it for ages, actually - but in the end, I put the controller down and thought, "Well, that was a bit disappointing, wasn't it?" Everyone bangs on about quitting after the first few hours because the core loop is shorter than a politician's memory, and yeah, fair enough. Unless you're absolutely rubbish at games - which you won't be,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games like this baffle me. How does a game end up with great art and music, but bad gameplay? Shouldn't designing a killer core gameplay loop be the first and foremost design focus? Very bland and disappointing gameplay

neutral · AI labelView post →The tutorial and intro had me very interested but sadly, that did not last. Pros: -Style and visuals are very unique while being interesting. Also easy on the eyes. -Story and NPCs are not bad at all. Had me interested to explore and learn more. -Very interesting crafting and building ideas that was relatively simple. Cons: -Due to the angle of the camera in relative to your character. It can be rather annoying trying to hit something you can see, but the camera makes it hard to judge on how…

neutral · AI labelView post →Wizard with a Gun is an open-world rogue-like shooter; owning visual semblance to the style of Don’t Starve, and functional likeness to rogue-likes like Enter the Gungeon. You begin your journey as your mage ship crash-lands in a mysterious dimension called the Shatter, whereas the story calls upon you find and assemble a band of powerful wizards to prevent the endtimes of the world, at the hands of all-consuming Chaos. The gameplay loop and the subsequent story revolve around traversing a…

neutral · AI labelView post →Yeah, this game had good artist leader but no good game designer Wizards with guns - should it give me feeling with more magic-like and less just shooter like? Should. And it didn't. Plot is generic and no reward from world opening is given. Thats fking thing with chests when you cannot open that one you see highlighted, thats annoying as hell. First you are excited to open new stations for craft, and then... nothing can be explored during the game, you just need tons of resources for…

neutral · AI labelView post →After 7 hours, I've seen everything this game has to offer. You make guns, and level them up, and that's ... kind of it? There is a story, and lore, and base-building, but the meat of the game, that core loop, runs out oh so very quickly. While I've only reached the second biome in the game, there's nothing left to drive me on to the rest. More of the same guns and same bullets and same-yet-slightly-different enemies? It's ... nah.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't love this game. I want to. I love the concept. I hate the implementation. all of the "crafting" stuff is kind of dropped on you in the very beginning. Many of the machines can use the same materials but there's not a way to organize to make that efficient, at last in the beginning making it all feel very overwhelming. If you enjoy complicated variable systems this might be right up your alley
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no cross progression, only for host prog very grindy in terms of building and gathering materials slow paced game but the game rushes you by giving you only a small timer to explore the world. constant connection issues

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It really is a shame about the game studio.... :/ The game is really fun, i enjoyed the gameplay and the diverse amount of variation you get between weapons, bounty weapons, bullet types.... there's really a lot in there and it feels really good to try out the system. There are some things that could have use some polishing about the pace, but it's nothing major. The game is really enjoyable.... what's most, it has a lot of potential for growth and more content, again it is a real shame…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is alright, but I grew tired of it after a few runs. I don't know that survival is the best description of it, since the only place you really have time to build and craft at is in the safe area. Its about as survival as a games like Hades or CoD, if the only metric for survival is not dying. Roguelite is very much a better genre for it. It might be more fun with more people, but I can't justify asking my friends to pay 25 bucks to play with me, and i don't like it enough to buy it for…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played barely over an hour and I think this game is really fun. Sadly one very simple missing feature makes this game unplayable for me: there is no brightness control. I like to play games on my handheld in the sun and this game is perfekt for this. Except that I can’t see ♥♥♥♥. The Game is dark. Very dark. Everything in the environment is brown, black and grey. It also has A LOT of obstacles on the map like grey rocks and walls, dark brown tree trunks and wooden walls or the floor is…

neutral · AI labelView post →Tried to push myself through this one but too many quality of life factors missing, tedious grinds, and just overall mediocre gameplay forced me to stop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this game is very mid. Slow, boring. Great art direction, cool concept. Just boring execution.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I genuinely enjoyed 100%ing this game, and that says a lot coming from a lazy person.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely an enjoyable experience that clearly had some love put into it. The game is an interesting mix of extraction, survival, and a nice variety of bullets to solve your problems. The negatives? I wish there was a greater variety of powders/synergies to be found and harder difficulties are definitely not well done. Overall, worth your time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could enjoy this game, I really could. But I just cant. The world, the trailer, the premise, the music, its all amazing but the game just isnt fun. It feels repetitive and quite boring. There just isnt enough to justify the cost.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty neat i guess, but that novelty wears off pretty quick. Becauase you have no i-frames when taking damage, there has been several times i go from full health to dead pretty much instantly. The timer doesn't feel like it adds an difficulty and just feel tedious, especially on higher difficulties. Also many of the bullets feel kinda useless, but that may be due to playing only singleplayer.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is fun, and presents just enough gameplay to be entertaining for a playthrough or two, or a few dozens of hours. But it doesn't come close to other popular games in Devolver Digital's assets – it feels more like a tablet game. And a pretty raw one too, it has the same problems most Unity Engine games do. I'd recommend getting it when it's on sale, but don't get carried away by the trailer, it's a much more linear experience than what'd you expect from other "proper wizard sandboxes".

positive · AI labelView post →There are a lot of games that bolt on a co-op mode despite the fact that the game in question doesn’t even benefit from it. Wizard with a gun is not that type of game - it is of a much more rare breed where the addition of co-op makes the game worse. So how do they achieve it? Despite the name, you are not a wizard - you have no spells, you are just shooting a gun with spicy ammo and can’t even blink to dodge projectiles - you roll in the lamest way possible, often not even far enough to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not fun at all, super hard to understand how the game works and how to play it. It just throws you right into the game and doesnt teach you properly and your just left being frustrated, confused, not understanding how the game works and probably asking for a refund at that point. Movement is also whack I legit hate every single part about this game. Not even an hour into it and I already just dont want to ever play it again..
