Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (409 of 490 positive).
Many reviewers criticize the limited dictionary, which rejects common words. [1][2][3][4]

The concept is fun and would be great to pass some time however I will have to pass on this one. The limited dictionary the game has sadly makes this game unenjoyable to play. I should be able to play everyday words but the game doesnt recognize them and therefore I am unable to play them.

An word version of Balatro. You have limited energy per round to create words and are offered bonuses after each win. After winning a round, you gain energy and rerolls. Rerolls can be used on 3 letters or to get 3 new bonuses offered. Knowing when to use your reroll is important to keep your energy from getting too low, since later rounds will have higher score requirements. Pros: Players that enjoy word games like …

It’s fine as it is, but lacking in some of the key elements that made Balatro so engaging. What remains is a fun little snacky game with no real personality. Get it as Scrabble practice but don’t be surprised if you lose interest after a few rounds

This feels like it has a great foundation of a game that's "Balatro but with word tiles instead of poker cards," but it's missing a lot of features to make it really shine. Balatro is one of the best games of 2024 because there's enough variety in the jokers to make every run truly unique and you can play using a wide variety of strategies that you adjust on the fly. Wordatro tries to emulate that formula, but its …

Really liked the demo, but don't know what's wrong with the full game. The library seems terrible. The first word I tried to play was 'pooch' -- which was rejected. Changed it to 'patch' and went the second word. Tried 'scandal'-- which was also rejected. What? I'm not going to return it yet because there must be something wrong, but if it's not fixed soon I will. Right now I can't recommend it. …

Only easy games for the because my brain wasn't working. I started and finished Barbie Horse Trails (great game). And I got this in Wordatro today:

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the demo and was looking forward to the full release, but in barely half an hour of playing I've already encountered a bunch of common words that the game doesn't recognize. Until the dictionary is improved, I do not recommend playing this game because it is very frustrating to have common words be denied.

neutral · AI labelView post →I think I would genuinely love this game, but there just aren't enough features yet. Fantastic premise, graphics are good, but having experienced what Balatro has to offer in terms of QoL features and endless mode - this game just naturally wouldn't be able to hold a flame to that experience, which is what they're obviously going for with the game. I had a blast at the start but it quickly fell off and I refunded due to the RNG nature of the game being too unbalanced at this point. With all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't recommend this game if you're looking for a Word-version of Balatro. It's not quite got the polish and features at the moment. The main issue is that the upgrades aren’t substantial enough to scale your scoring. The round-by-round perks are quite weak, with the main problem being the score deadlines are too high when you look at the value of most of the letters and multipliers, even if you make long words. Here are some suggestions I think are required to improve the gameplay:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's the name that gets me. Balatro makes sense in a game about jokers. It basically means joker or jester. Wordatro seems lazy.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as much as I wanted to like this one, I didn't need to play very long to realise it held no candle to Balatro as it aims to, this review is as harsh as it will be based on the fact that this is trying to be Balatro with words. For the biggest problems to me is that this has no feeling of adventure at all, it's a linear game with few choices, any roguelike worth it's salt thrives on player decision and builds. With this huge lack of player agency each round has you choose 1 bonus out of 3…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish I could give an 'eh' recommendation. It's a solid enough game, but there's very little replay value, relies way too much on RNG (as others have said, you very often pull entire hands of vowels) with very little ability to express skill. The bonuses simply *feel* weak, no matter how strong they might be, and the low amount of rerolls and tries ('energy') per round basically mean you have to play perfectly to manage anything, especially on the higher difficulties (which only really reduce…

positive · AI labelView post →Wordatro! is a basic letter arranging word game that looks and feels like a mobile app despite being on Steam. Wow, the earnings meeting is going to be hilarious when the managers ask what revenue came in from the app stores. This is basically the weakest ripoff of Scrabble I've ever seen. The developer ripped off the branding and trademarked name of the popular poker game, Balatro, blatantly stealing someone else's concept there, and slapped it on Scrabble but with multiplayer and most of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing this game for a few hours, it's kind of fun a fun twist on Scrabble and Balatro, but ultimately fails at being a decent Balatro-like, like the game's title suggests. There doesn't feel like there's a lot of room for replayability or progression beyond beating a run. You can change the difficulty level, but I never really felt rewarded in beating a run, because you don't really seem to unlock anything to make future runs easier or add more challenge or strategy. I also think being…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 - after the 2nd round no way you can do the math to figure out if your word will pass you to the next stage or fail. dont know if i need to keep looking for a bigger one. - nothing to unlock, kinda just bam here's 5 levels of difficulty - wish it gave you a new hand every round. the hands get harder and harder as you run out of rerolls - a lot of the achievements are INSANE odds to unlock. such as winning only using words that start with the same letter or spelling wordatro!, dont forget…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Until this game is much improved, I can't really recommend it because of two glaring issues: -Reading reviews, I realized only the French dictionary had received much love, but even that one, which should be the most developped, is very lacking, which leads to very frustrating situations when even relatively common words aren't allowed. -The roguelike part is utterly embryonic and ludicrously unbalanced: you only get one modifier picked from a random panel of three every round. Problem is,…

neutral · AI labelView post →Fun game but needs more variety/content! Maybe having the higher difficulties locked before completing the lower ones could be a place to start. However I don't mean that we need more difficulty just some system to make the player feel progression. Please add more content outside of the daily challenges, anything! Custom games or random modifiers, some kind of gameplay loop. I'll change to recommended when there's more content. The base of the game itself, the visuals/UI are really nice and…

Tune in and watch as we play! #indiegame #indiegames #indiedev
neutral · AI labelView post →Has massive potential but just isn't satisfying yet. Feels really weird to get punished for longer words due to the low base values of most letters, and unless you get good augments you're sol in a lot of cases unless you're some sort of living dictionary. Also severely lacking in actual content, this feels like an early access first public draft not a full release for $10.

positive · AI labelView post →honestly.. I bought it because of GameGrumps. I like word games and this one just seemed to be fairly interesting (and lead me to pick up Balatro soon after). It's pretty good! Not as in depth as its inspiration, but its serviceable. I think it could definitely use more levels, or more features to really fill it out (I'm not sure what, but it does feel like it's missing SOMETHING). Even then, it's still a pretty fun game. Could use better Steam Deck integration, though. Less reliance on touch…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you take so long when its your turn in scrabble because you want to make the longest word that you can that none of you friends ever want to play with you? Play this game. Admittedly, the roguelike elements get repetitive and there isn't much variation in the boons you get, but there's no other single player scrabble I'd rather play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What is the point of a daily leaderboard that is just plagued with people that google word combinations. Literally my only gripe with the game. There's no point in doing any dailies.

neutral · AI labelView post →I'm glad this game was in a charity bundle because I don't think it's worth buying on its own. It feels rather unfinished and it's disappointing to see that since it was released in June 2025, it's only gotten one bug fix update and no other changes besides the removal of a game mode. Surely a game called Wordatro wasn't only made to quickly cash in on the popularity of a certain similar-sounding game? (spoiler: it was) The crux of the issue--which is also the main point of most of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wordatro is a very fun word game with a rougelike premise. The game is pretty well made, with crisp design and gameplay. Difficulties also vary depending on which mode you play, from a super easy mode to pro mode (which is really hard). There is also a daily challenge that is the same for everyone. The only downside to Wordatro is that there isn't enough unique things or challenges to work towards after you already go through the difficulties. In other words, the game starts to get a bit too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty nice game. Well crafted, excellent UI and chill music. The main game lets you save and quit whenever you like so it's good for people with busy lives. However, the daily challenge is always populated with unbeatable scores and the Pro mode is a bit too hard for me (unless you like cheating with Scrabble solvers), so I think I'm finished with it now after about 5 hours gameplay. I've got my money's worth and can recommend it. If you like word games, I think I'd recommend these games…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice little roguelike word game, especially for people who speak more than 1 language! neutral · AI labelView post →I'm not sure where this game gets its list of allowable words, but it's far more complete than most other word games. This is important to us word nerds with expansive vocabularies. Other games have you yelling at the screen "That is *too* a word, you dastard!" This game will have you going "That is a word too? Time to go research!"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly fun. Steam Deck support would be great, I have to force close the game if I accidentally click to save a screenshot after a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty boring.. not much new after finishing first few runs. Also a lot of words in English don't work for w/e reason. I'd skip this one even on sale. Game doesn't getter any better beyond demo or first 2 hours of gameplay so you can try and just refund it. Meh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It could have been fun, but it ultimately rewards your choice of end-level power-ups more than any intelligence in coming up with smart words. If the previous is done well, you can be fairly bad and uninventive at the core game, and still pass, and feel worse about the opposite situation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wordatro is one of those games that you see someone else play and are like "huh, this looks interesting. Let me give it a try." You buy it, you install it, and then you realise that hours of your day has gone by as you try to not only remember words in the English language (or whatever language you speak), while also trying to think about your strategy and letter placement. The game's a lot more complicated than it lets on. There is a ridiculous amount of strategy required to get good at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just...such a nothing burger. There's really nothing to play for after the first 2-3 clears except achievements. I REALLY tried to force myself to like this thing, but there just isn't enough here. Balatro works because of its depth, there's just none of that here. If you're wanting something different from Balatro but same concept, just get Pip My Dice or Cloverpit. To the dev, you have a really interesting concept which is why I bought it, it just needs to be more than a proof…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- The demo promised suprises and challenges. I assumed there would be puzzle like levels, or a story, or anything more than an arcade game, but it's jsut that: an arcade game with achievments and no other sense of progress, nothing to unlock, no plot. This is a roguelike arcade game with scores. Nothing more... at ten bucks. + For a one-dev game it's great, - but my eval is negative because sadly, in 2025, when Skyrim SE and all its free mods are at less then 20 bucks, paying 10 for an arcade…
